  • Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire Is The Best Ghostbusters Sequel - Here's Why
Ghostbusters is one of the most beloved comedies of the '80s. It spawned a couple of sequels and now we're at Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire. The new film focuses more on the newer generation of Ghostbusters, and that's for the best. It's easily the best Ghostbusters sequel since Ghostbusters 2. Check out my review of Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire.

Frozen Empire was a creative fun Ghostbusters movie and that's what it's supposed to be. It showed us more of the Spangler family and their dynamics as well as much more of the fire house and how the GB company has grown. It was a great first step into the next generation of Ghostbusters. It sets up an exciting lead into another movie or steaming series. Over all 8/10

Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire was a fantastic movie. I loved it!
I personally saw the film in a jam-packed theater. There were laughs, smiles, and fun times all around. At the end, people actually stood up, clapped, and enjoyed the experience. Isn’t that what a “Good” movie is supposed to do?
Don’t listen to any critic that throws hate at Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire. They are wrong, and their false words should not deter you from seeing this extraordinary film. Is it perfect? No. But it’s damn good! Great video!

I’ve just come out of the cinema having watched this movie. I’m 37 years old and a long time Ghostbusters fan. This movie was unfortunately a disappointment. Whilst there were elements that had me hooked, the story was so poorly written that those elements were not enough to salvage this movie. I believe Sony should have turned their attention to a tv series, the idea behind this movie would have best been served by a series allowing expansion on the story so far for the Spenglers. Instead we get a first and second act bogged down by this and done so slowly it bled into the third act effectively destroying this movie. The “bad guy” was awesome, on paper, yet his build up, which had its foundations well rooted, was let down so badly by his lack lustre confrontation with the ghostbusters or shall we just say Phoebe. I still commend all those involved in this movie because, as a fan, they carry the torch for such a beloved movie “franchise”. I do believe there are enough fans out there to give hope to Sony that there is life left in this “franchise” yet, just maybe not in the way it was executed in this movie. Afterlife had a much better story and this movie had all the room to expand on it, instead it’s dwarfed by what was a glorified love letter to ghostbusters fans. Frozen Empire has missed a huge trick in gaining a new fan base and one feels they may have instead, cut a few ties with those willing to give ghostbusters another shot.

It's interesting you say the film lessens the nostalgia, while many other of the (negative) reviews say the film is nothing but nostalgic overload. It's interesting how this stuff lands totally different for people depending on the headspace they have going in.
I won't lie - ever since the (yes, largely toxic) backlash against GB16, it seems that people have a certain disdain for the franchise and the fanbase on behalf of GB16. To this day people are trying to rehabilitate GB16 as "the only good GB movie after the first, actually" and it's just so...try hard. I don't judge or begrudge anyone what they enjoy. If you honestly like GB16, good for you! I'll never knock anyone loving movies - any movie.
I myself don't HATE GB16. I think it has it's moment but is overall more bland and forgettable than outright bad.
Two things can be true at once. The backlash against GB16 could have fueled by loud, asshole bigots AND the film itself can suck. People seem to have this underlying idea that if GB16 is seen and remembered as a dud, it somehow proves the bigots right. And they see the existence of Afterlife and FE as validation of the hate.
It's just so childish all around. I HATE that the hyper-divided culture war BS has tainted the Ghostbusters franchise and fanbase. It was so chill before. Now it has this stink all over it.

Love the SNL actresses that are in GB16. Loved Bridesmaids. Love Buffy, Kill Bill, Xena, first Wonder Woman movie, Phoebe in GBA, etc. GB16, imo, was a parody of GB, and a terrible one. Nothing to do with gender or sexism. Those women can be very funny in other media. With the exclusion of Holtzman, I hated GB16.

    • @nope5657
      @nope5657 4 месяца назад +2

@@bradypreston2370 It's really sad the culture war is so intense that people have to buffer criticism of GB16 as to avoid blind accusations of sexism.
I won't lie, back when the film was coming out and the controversy was so entrenched in the discourse - while I didn't think it looked all that good I WANTED it to be good. I don't ever cheer or wish for a movie to suck even if I'm not interested in it.
I saw it with an open mind, hoping to enjoy it. And a few mild smirks and chuckles aside...it sucked. Oh well.
      I'm not mad about it.
      I don't HATE it.
      I don't resent its existence.
      It's just a dud.
But because people made it their personality to either act like it's the worst insult to film ever or to defend it to the death, we're stuck in this fucking never-ending discourse.

I thought GB:answer the call was an okay movie. The biggest issue I hadwas the fact the movie hyped it up with some of the original GB making an appearance and come to find out that they cameoed as different characters. Whereas in After Life, the original GB showed up at the end as their original roles..
2016 movie tried too hard to be funny that it wasn't funnynearly as much. IMO Chris Hemsworth steals the show as the male secretary.
I think that if they had not had the cameos in 2016, the movie could have been received better. but the cameos were wasted.

Frozen Empire understands Ghostbusters better than any of the other modern sequels.
The original is not a great movie because it's funny. It's a great movie because it took elements of horror and the supernatural so serious to the point of being funny. Yet even if you cut out all the jokes it's still a good supernatural film.
Frozen Empire has bits of horror in it. It's loaded with references to the supernatural and it's also a fun adventure that makes you laugh at the ridiculousness of it all.
As a kid who grew up terrified of the library lady and Vigo, who was up every Saturday morning for new episodes of Real Ghostbusters, this film had me smiling all the way through.
The script is not perfect but the tone of it was spot on for what a Ghostbusters movie should be.

I’m debating about seeing this movie. I’m a massive Ghostbusters one and two fan. I just feel like they waited too long the heart and soul of those movies are the four guys in the movies. Rick Moranis was awesome, all the original cast.
I’m not really interested in seeing Paul Rudd try to be a Ghostbuster or them throwing Patton Oswald into the movie. I love Paul Rudd and Patton Oswalt, but I just have no investment in them or the younger cast. The last movie was OK, but I feel like they should’ve done sequels to these movies in the 90s with the original dudes. I just have nothing invested in this cast Especially if they’re just throwing Bill Murray in and the rest of them kind of here and there. Just sucks

I had fun watching it, but I’m the target audience. This movie does very little to recruit new fans as this movie leans HEAVILY on knowledge of the previous films.
This is a 6.5/10 if I’m being generous. It’s better than Afterlife, but falls miles short of GB2. Miles.

They arent wrong but theyre beating on the wrong points, nostalgia (mostly) and the world building is fine. The film has major pacing issues especially in the 1st act. The kids out outside of Phoebe are relegated to background characters that serve no purpose to the story, Lucky in particular could have been cut entirely and nothing about the movie would be different. I felt like the jokes for the most part weren't that funny and there wasnt much of them. The Phoebe lesbian ghost girlfriend side story is a thing I can write an essay on why that doesnt work. The OG's get moments Ray being the highlight but I felt Venkman was wasted not even getting a memorable line or any real extended interaction with Peck at the end. The buildup of the villain and the way thats resolved is deflating. And theres now the issue of super powers essentially being introduced to the franchise in a way that could ruin it if they choose to follow that thread in sequels. To me it seems to be a victim of the writers strike as a lot of things could have been fixed but they chose to film through that period to get it released.

    • @Madbandit77
      @Madbandit77 4 месяца назад

The script was written BEFORE the writers strike. Podcast and Lucky were all right, IMO. Venkman calling Peck a clown was enough because if Peck had the heroes arrested, he would lose an upcoming election.

How horrible the 2016 movie was absolutely makes the two most recent ones seem so much better, because in comparison to that dumpster fire they are.
Now, they aren't bad in their own right, and decent movies if you ignore the original 2 movies, which can't be said about the 2016 one.
Unluckily they are trying to force in adult characters, older adult characters at that (43-55 years old, which 43 would be fine as the high, just not the low), instead of passing the franchise onto the younger generation more, and it's absolutely going to kill the franchise back off with whatever they do next now, because either it won't tie everything together or it's going to go a direction that will suck.

Critics are not wrong, and I'll tell you why. What killed Afterlife was the fact Bill Murray didn't appear until the end. What kills Frozen Empire is the fact that Bill Murray doesn't appear in the movie until the end again. Bill Murray is the STAR of Ghostbusters. Not Mckenna Grace. How does a female-to-female relationship between Mckenna and a female ghost get more screen time and more play than what Bill Murray gets in the movie? Explain it to me. Explain how the now Mayor Peck and Bill Murray don't have that big confrontation everybody was waiting for? Explain it. Tell me why Sigourney Weaver doesn't appear with her now grown-up son Oscar to reunite with Bill Murray? Tell me why Bill Murray doesn't have a story arc or a developed story arc in the movie? Tell me why once again Bill Murray doesn't show up in these until the very end of the movie? Bill Murray puts butts in the seats. Not Paul Rudd. Not Carrie Coon. People pay the money for the tickets to see Bill Murray. Not to see Mckenna Grace. Mckenna Grace looks nothing like her character in real life. Mckenna doesn't have black curly hair and she doesn't wear glasses like her Ghostbuster character. I don't get it. Bill Murray doesn't alter his appearance for Ghostbusters. Bill Murray is the STAR of Ghostbusters, and the critics are right about Frozen Empire because Bill Murray wasn't in Frozen Empire from the get-go as the STAR of Frozen Empire. A MISSED opportunity for Frozen Empire and Ghostbusters fans.
