I love how many people were like "Who the heck are these guys???" when they won a Grammy for Best New Artist. And for SURE Bon Iver (album) is such a masterpiece. They were like that because Bon Iver was up against (had to look this up): Nicki Minaj, J. Cole, Skrillex, and The Band Perry. AND WON! xD
Shoutout to my high school art teacher Mr Euclide for painting the amazing album art. Bon Iver is a gem, all of their albums are fantastic I definitely recommend diving in more
This song is so powerful to me… lost a dear cousin in 2012 and this album was the soundtrack to that time in my life… got to see them live and it brought on all the tears! Good deconstruction btw!
dude. from 6:45, you moved the same way i will always move to this song! regardless if on the bus, pub, or wherever! that song will always hit me like that.
I haven't watched this yet but I had to come here on my lunch break to like and save it for after work. Holoscene is one of my top 10 songs from my absolute favourite artist. Very excited to listen to this video, cheers!
There is nothing being produced today, that is as hypnotically beautiful. Justin has something you cannot be taught. You must be born with it. A true gift to the world of music...
Such a great song. This one and "Skinny Love" are my favorites by Bon Ivor. Unique vocal style for sure. If you enjoy this sort of vibe, I would recommend an artist named Novo Amor ("Anchor" and "Holland") and Iron & Wine ("Flightless Bird").
just want to express my ongoing gratitude to you sharing your experiences journeying through all the stuff you're discovering. Your takes consistently elevate and enhance my appreciation for so many beautiful pieces. keep it up!
I’m a rocker (love Tool) but love this song. Hits me emotionally and don’t even know why. Maybe the engineering of the song is what gets me. Wonder if I would have the same connection hearing it live? Thanks you Geebz.
It‘s two full drum play throughs and the band is actually performing with two drummers hence the panning in this case. Edit: Also, yes it was Colin Stetson on the Sax in the background. He‘s a brilliant musician.
Was going to comment that I would not be surprised if he had two drummers on the track. His live performances are a massive production with so many artists. Reps Eau Claire, WI well!
Love your reactions and dissections Geebz! I'm sure I'm not the only one that would LOVE to see more reactions to Bon Iver. My personal list of their songs that I'd love to see broken down by you: 33 "GOD", 29 #Strafford APTS, 666 ʇ, 8 (circle), 22 (OVER S∞∞N), Jelmore, Naeem, Faith, Sh'Diah, Minnesota, WI, Re: Stacks
Heyyy Geebz!!! I discovered your channel recently and I have to say that your reviews are the most detailed and my new favorite of all the different music reviewers out there!!! It's an absolute treat to hear the perspective you share! Anyways, to get to my point, I would absolutely be thrilled if you could take the time to review my favourite song of all time since the release a year and a half ago!! I have seen you review some of my other favorite songs (Reptile, Of Matter), and if you could do a review of the song DARK by INVENT, ANIMATE, I think you will understand why I believe it will be my absolute favorite song forever!!! I truly believe it will blow you away with how perfect it is in every way! 🔥 Much Love my Brother!! 🙏❤
Fun fact: Bon Iver is Claudio Sanchez's of Coheed and Cambrias favorite band, or atleast was recently in an interview he did. Been big fan of Justin Vernon for awhile now. Brings a broad soundscape to the music world.
If you're liking Bon Iver, I highly recommend checking out Beirut. Guyamas Sonora, Nantes, Elephant Gun, Cliquot, and the NPR Music Front Row version of Postcards From Italy (my favorite) are all absolute gems of theirs. They've got the same sort of folky, genuine sort of feel of Bon Iver, with the addition of different languages, instruments, and musical styles from abroad incorporated in. Love your stuff Geebz, you've helped myself and countless others through the mundanity (or craziness for some!) of these recent days.

PLEASEEEEEE react to his, in my opinion, magnum opus: Skinny Love. It's a tale of a love so cold and broken that the artist had to retreat into a cabin in the middle of winter to write about his heartbreak. You can feel the lump in his throat, and more of this beautiful tone,.
Gotta plug Until the Ribbon Breaks. I really think you'll dig their sound. Also - almost 200k subs? Holy cow! I remember when you had less than 5000! Crazy!
Nice Geebz! Absolutely love this and your heavier stuff that you react and dissect. I also recommend 'The National'! Maybe something like About Today or Slow Show. I really think you would like them. Thanks for everything and keep up the great work :)
This song reminds me of my childhood. Can't explain how. It's wonderful. It's an amazing "reflect as you watch the leafs change" song. Try Phosphorescent- Song for Zula. Similarly chill inducing.
YES!!! That's a great, great song by Bon Iver! I also love their live performance of this song, and many more when they did NPR Music Front Row on Dec 4, 2016 at Pioneer Works nonprofit arts and culture center. A reaction to any of these would be amazing! ruclips.net/video/YJNi7aRwUzU/видео.html

So happy to see you do some Bon Iver (pronounced Bone Eevair...I think anyway). There's so much to pick apart in their compositions. Highly recommend doing more. Maybe Beth/Rest or Hey, Ma.
If you were to ever watch one of his live performances I'd suggest Skinny Love on Later With Jools Holland. Something along the same lines would be Ben Howard - End of the Affair, live on the same show. A lot to unpack with that performance
This whole album is my favorite of the group. Maybe not as a reaction, but on your own, watch the “Heavenly Father” live performance. A cappella and super raw, done with the group The Staves, I believe.
Bon Iver’s got that great Americana mood. Some other great stuff in this genre: Great Lake Swimmers, Lord Huron, Blitzen Trapper, Frontier Ruckus… aaaand then, if you you wanna get some atmospheric black metal mixed in with Americana, check out Panopticon. Bahahaha! You had it! "Bone E vair". Think French, like Bon Appetit + Vanity Fair. This album is absolutely fantastic. Justin Vernon has a super unique vision. I would encourage everyone to listen to Wash. from this album. Check out the studio track first, then see the live performance with just the two pianos. It's incredible.
you are actually pretty close on "Bon Iver". For Holocene just go straight phonetic. Hollow scene. It's the name of the current geological epoch on planet Earth.
Even if you don’t react to it, check out the live version of this song that he performed on Jimmy Fallon. You can see his band play multiple instruments during the song. They build this song into layers that must be seen to believe.
If you´re looking for a similar artist to do, Ásgeir Trausti (from my homeland Iceland) is similar, maybe the song Going Home (or Heimförin if you want it in icelandic). Or even his duet with the faroese singer/muse Eivör (Only Love) which is another artist you should cover.
Love this song! If you want more in this style, consider checking out some Iron & Wine. He has lots of nice layering in his songs and can stretch a single musical idea for a whole song, while still making it interesting.
You're a composer, so you're going to love pretty much any Bon Iver, but definitely a departure from your decompositions of metal tracks. Bon Iver absolutely a first-rate, innovative song writer/composer. (Justin Vernon is Bon Iver, btw)
Over the weekend we lost one of the pioneers of early modern music, and one of the first inductees into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Don Everly. Don and his brother Phil, who passed in 2014, formed the Everly Brothers. They influenced the Beatles, The Beach Boys, Simon and Garfunkel and many others with their harmonies and musical style. Their music was a huge influence on me and my brother, we bought every record as soon as it was released. It would seem fitting if you could decompose one of their tunes. Thanks.
Justin is an artist i never get tired of listening to. His song "8 (circle)" makes me stop to listen every time. That heartbeat quality to that track just slows your own heartbeat down to sync to it (not disimilar to a lot of Sigur Ros tracks in that quality)
Love Bon Iver and this song especially, glad to see you checking it out! You might enjoy some of the tracks from Taylor Swift’s last two albums (Folklore & Evermore). The engineering is immaculate! The song Exile features Bon Iver so that might be a good place to start. It’d definitely get a lot of clicks ;) Aloha!
This is kind of random but you should check out “It’s Never Over” by Arcade Fire, they are an alternative indie band with a giant powerhouse of talent, I feel like at least with the vibe of this video, you might appreciate, it’s a bit more upbeat but still has a bit of an eerie or sad feel to it. Enjoy!
Can I make a recommendation for anything from Portishead or Massive Attack. I know you don't like to listen to words specifically, but I think you'll really appreciate the lead vocals from these groups as instruments. Especially Beth Gibbons of Portishead.
Good seeing you do some indie stuff. Please consider checking out the band Blowing Trees. They are from Texas they're not exactly active anymore but I think you would really enjoy it. "The day the world left me" would be a great start
Are you familiar with Steve Reich? One of my favorite contemporary composers, the use of rhythms especially in all those horns towards the end really reminds me of his work.
I went to college with Justin, he's one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet. And incredibly talented.

I usually go in for heavier stuff, but Bon Iver- the wolves at glastonbury 2009 is one of my favorite live performances ever. Powerful
I was there man......I definitely concur....the whole performance was incredible
Yessssssssssss, one of the best shows ever
Total clasic
More Bon Iver would be wonderful, such beautiful music!
This and Re: Stacks too are without any doubt his best songs
Re: Stacks is the song that got me into Bon Iver
Re:stacks is so hauntingly beautiful; would love to see this guy listen to 8 circle : ]
two great choices, but I can't agree that there's no doubt. CREEKS, 8 circle, Wolves, Towers, Beth/Rest... his catalog is hard to beat
Great suggestions here. But ‘Blood Bank’ is the one for me. Reminds me of my brother. Cry every time I listen to it. Absolutely ethereal
Absolutely absolutely
I loooove when you review indie music ❤️
This song is so powerful to me… lost a dear cousin in 2012 and this album was the soundtrack to that time in my life… got to see them live and it brought on all the tears! Good deconstruction btw!
Geebz. This is my all-time favorite song from my favorite group. Justin Vernon is masterfull!
This song will never not give me goosebumps, nice to see you give it a spin
I believe I recommended this in the comments a couple months back. Excited to watch this one!
Yes!! This song had a big impact on some things / people in my life, thanks for doing it
This song always gets me pretty emotional. Whether I’m feeling good or crappy Bon Iver always makes me feel better.
I'm so glad you've discovered this! For reasons unknown, it tears me wide open every time. His resonance is powerful.
Yes! I love this direction! Re:stacks by Bon Iver is undoubtedly the best

Whenever you start veering more indie I always gotta recommend Sufjan Stevens or Grizzly Bear. love the channel 🤙
second this
Yes, I've been thinking he needs to do a Grizzly Bear song! Sleeping Ute would be a good start I think.
Something off Illinoise! would be cool cause a lot of them have irregular time signatures
Grizzly Bear!!! Please!!! Where do you start with that?;

This song always puts me in the mood to listen to Sigur Rós for some reason. And it would be nice if you did a second song by them.
