The arpeggios at the end give me chills everytime. Suddenly it's 2007 and i'm 18 again, great reaction to a great song. I'd also say trying the track "White Walls" by them another superb journey through musical wonderland. They excel at musical storytelling and both tracks end in an extremely satisfying way that makes you reflect back on the rest of the track in a totally different way after it's over, like a good narrative in a film.
Yeah!!! I can't tell exactly what happens, but it feels like a shift into the relative major key maybe, I don't know, but it makes me feel like I'm soaring.
Talking about stamina, I went to their 10 year anniversary colors tour, and they played the 70 minute album without breaks between songs. Hands down the best show I've ever been to
Been looking for a better band ever since I’ve found them. Not cuz they are bad. But is it possible to be better?? Went to TGM tour. Played two whole sets. Brutally Beautiful
Went to the same show, except it was the night before the release of colors II. After the first run of colors, they went offstage but the lights never turned on and they wernt opening the doors. About 10 mins later Tommy comes out and says something along the lines of "well it looks like its after midnight which means you can snag up our new cd now at the merch booth, but we will let you preview it first now." and immediately the piano notes hit and started off colors II. It was magical. I got covid after that along with 2 members and half the people i knew that went, but it was worth it.
Mr. Geebz, keep on with this band. They've done a number of operatic prog metal albums and they infuse literally all styles at various points. Colors was hailed as the Metal DSOTM. Colors II comes out in a week and a half. You'll definitely gain some traffic if you build to that.

"I would love to see them play this live, I would love to hear that and feel this live" -- it's absolutely an experience. These guys are FLAWLESS live, and this song is hands-down the most beautiful thing I've ever heard performed. I can't help but close my eyes through the last half and let it take me away. I couldn't have clicked on this video harder when I saw it pop up. BTBAM are so talented and their music is so varied and deep, I'm excited to see you explore them more. Geebz, you're awesome. Thanks and keep it up.
I got to see them in Florida with my oldest son. It was amazing and to avoid the pits we were off to the side of the stage and evidently got to meet a few of the guys and the openers as well. Amazing experience, even better show!
I took my 55 year old dad to a BTBAM concert back in 2015. They played Selkies and he had to pick his jaw off the floor at the end. He turned to me and silently said "That was the greatest song I've ever heard".
This band is such a can of worms! They've got a lot more songs with unique arrangements and flavors layered throughout. Mirrors/Obfuscation (1st 2 tracks off The Great Misdirect), is one of their better representations. Really fun listen🤙
This is my favorite song of all time, of any genre, and I'm so glad to see it getting the Key of Geebz treatment! This is the album that got me into really heavy metal and vocals. Because I was a jazz band kid, it made that music make more sense to me.
As far as I'm concerned, this is one of the best songs ever written, when I first heard it as a teen, it blew me away and radically expanded my understanding of what music could be It's definitely one of their standout tracks and a really good, diverse showcase of all the things they can do within a song. Next, you could either check out "Obfuscation", or "The Coma Machine" which is a newer song that leans more into the old school prog rock vibes you discovered here
Yes, finally! You should listen to another one of their tracks, Voice of Trespass. It's brilliant. Or Swim to the Moon. These guys are one of the best live bands I've ever seen. Tommy's vocals are incredible.
Nah, Voice of trespass is quite boring in my opinion. It's very predictable compared to all the other BTBAM songs. The "scat" section of the song is pretty cool but the rest of it is too much "swing"
@@LuiTheMinus it definitely does. As strange as it is, Colors just doesn't do it for me quite like some other albums. Parallax II is my favorite, but it's also the album I started with.
finally!!! we have been asking for soooo long hahaha. Love you geebz. This is and has been my favorite song by BTBAM since I first got the CD Alaska back in 2005 when it came out. This remains my favorite album purely as a love since it was my first metal album like this I had ever gotten my hands on as a young teen, and for so many nostalgia reasons. Every album they have done is amazing though especially Coma Ecliptic. I can't wait to see your face on the last half of this amazing piece. This drummer is in my top 5 of IMO best drummers of the past 20+ years and will remain there till the end of my time. Blake Richardson is unlike any other drummer I have ever had the pleasure of looking up to and listening to.
Blake is also a very humble and kind person. I've talked with him several times after the shows. Even when I have been way too drunk he have taken time to chat for a while. After one specific show a friend of mine told him that he was an up and coming drummer and the fact that Blake was his biggest inspiration. Blake light up, ran back to the drum set and gave him a broken a drum stick. My friend asked if he broke it on "Ants of the sky" and he replied "wow you really noticed?" We took pictures and they stood together and talked for a very long time after the concert. Sometimes he even spends hours talking with his fans after the shows. And that's one of the reasons we love this band over anyone else. They're not just incredible musicians. They're also awesome in any other way
@@MrTelorix I've had the same experience with him, my good friend is a drummer and he took all the time in the world to talk to him and I and was so polite and humble the whole time. I think when you get to a certain level it really shows your true character
@@MrTelorix I've heard same as well! My cousin got pictures and a used snare head signed at one of their shows. Said he was amazing to talk to. One of my favorite things about being from North Carolina is the fact that they always come here to charlotte or Asheville and it's great. Looking forward to TGM show next month.
I got Alaska back in 2005 and it made me fall in love with btbam. I liked the self titled album but Alaska is what blew me away. I've seen them live about 8 times and met all the guys. They are all super cool dudes. My best friend went to high school with Dusty bc she is from Winston Salem
Him and Danny Carey are at the tip top of the ice berg. Their creative vision is absurd. Both BTBAM and TOOL wouldn’t be nearly close to the same bands if it wasn’t for their drummers. They deserve ALL the credit.
Having seen BTBAM several times live including this song, I will just say, all their songs are “ooh ahh” tracks. Insane musicians. One of my all time favorite bands! Thank you for doing this one.
The fabled Selkies sweeps can transport you through space and time making that few minutes feel like seconds, and then feel like hours afterwards. Has been and will continue to be my favourite band of all time, purely because each member can bring their amazing musicianship and meet in the middle seemingly effortlessly. Glad you got to experience it and really appreciate it Geebz!
The ending of Selkies transports me to another plane emotionally. It feels like taking off into the clouds and leaving the world behind, and fits with the changes in the “movements” that you mentioned. The aggressive middle section highlights the ugly side of human nature and all of the things that divide or control us. In the last section, we are finally free of all the worldly noise and able to truly enjoy the human experience. I think this is what he meant by “the sweet relief”.
Whether it's a reaction video or not you should listen to their entire album the Parallax 2. It's a concept album, plays through like an old Pink Floyd album. No breaks between tracks, tells a story, almost like a progressive metal opera. It's their masterpiece in my opinion. Going to see them in a month, can't wait.
The acronym is pronounced as B-T-BAM. So just three syllables. You're gonna fall in love with these guys and their tour just started if you want to see them live.
Alaska was their 3rd record, and the 1st with the current lineup of Tommy Rogers, Paul Wagoner, Blake Richardson(drummer Glass Casket), Dusty Waring(Guitarist Glass Casket), and Dan Briggs on bass. IMO their Opus is Silent Flight Parliament/Goodbye to Everything from Parallax II Future Sequence
Love it. Watching your expressions through the song is super entertaining haha. There are no wrong choices with this band. My favorite song, as far as one that really gives every band member a chance to show off, is Swim To The Moon. It's a really long song but an absolutely amazing journey.
Seen them live many times, but just recently was overjoyed to see them again as it was my return to seeing live music since shows were shut down last year. The show was originally supposed to be May 2020 then postponed to August 2021. It did not disappoint.
This is it. This is THE song. I'm so happy to see it here on the channel finally. I was 12 when this album came out, maybe 13 or 14 when I actually heard this for the first time though, but still to this day the back half sends chills down my spine and brings a tear to my eye. It's a standard I've still not heard quite matched all these years later.
Their "ooh-aah" track to most BTBAM fans is White Walls, the last section of a very very long song called Colors, which, 10 days from now, will have a sequel named Colors II. But my personal "ooh-aah" from them is The Parallax Suite (Parallax Part 1, and Part 2) in whole, namely Astral Body + Lay Your Ghosts to Rest (they were meant to be one song), Extremophile Elite, and Silent Flight Parliament. Anyways, you, as in YOU, would probably get the most enjoyment out of any of the tracks that you get recommended from their Coma Ecliptic Album, where they tinted their core formula toward new directions like Andrew Lloyd Weber, Pink Floyd, Mussorgsky/Stravinsky, and so on.
My friend and I were jamming out to this song back in high school around when it first came out, and he said the part that starts around 13:22 in this video made him feel like he was lost in a cave, 13:40 is when he saw the light at the end of the tunnel, and 13:50 is when he escaped out into the sunlight. That image has stuck with me all this time.
I've seen them live a few times, and they will routinely go from playing a 10 minute song STRAIGHT into a 15 minute long song! They have so much stamina!
Keep doing what you're doing. I'm enjoying it. I'm actually a huge Prog Metal fan, so I love these reactions that don't get enough attention. Behind Haken and Opeth, BTBAM is right there.
I first heard these guys off a Victory Records sampler CD that had the music videos, I was 13. It was a song that I, still to this day, hold near and dear to my musical heart, Mordecai. It was from their 2003 album “The Silent Circus”. I think you should check it out to give you more of a sense of where they started with the heavier sounds moving into softer tones. I remember to this day buying this album at Best Buy and it had a sticker calling them “The TOOL of deathmetal” and I never turned away. When they followed that up with the Alaska album which contained Selkies, I knew I had to see them live every chance I got. And I did for several years. Im excited for you!!! Lets do this!!! P.S. Listen to Horse the Band already!!! (Cutsman or Murder)
Parallax: Hypersleep Dialogues and Parallax II: Future Sequence are a must. Really their entire discography is a must. Alaska is really where they came into their own - polished compositions - classic stuff
Love what you're doing Geebz. There's plenty of people out there breaking down music theory and - as a result - not getting the 'pure listener' first experience that we come to this channel for.
This is one of the songs that really got me into these guys. Some other great ones to check out: Extremophile Elite Disease, Injury, Madness (this one is insane live) The Proverbial Below Silent Flight Parliament Ants of the Sky I could go on haha

I couldn't have clicked on this video harder when I saw it pop up. BTBAM are so talented and their music is so varied and deep, I'm excited to see you explore them more.
Geebz, you're awesome. Thanks and keep it up.
Nailed it, ive NEVER heard better musicianship live
Watching them play colors live without breaks was so amazing
I got to see them in Florida with my oldest son. It was amazing and to avoid the pits we were off to the side of the stage and evidently got to meet a few of the guys and the openers as well. Amazing experience, even better show!
I took my 55 year old dad to a BTBAM concert back in 2015. They played Selkies and he had to pick his jaw off the floor at the end. He turned to me and silently said "That was the greatest song I've ever heard".
Swim to the moon….. one of my favorites from BTBM
Disease, Injury, Madness gives me chills every time. Seeing them live is like nothing else.
Is it the horse?
Just caught these guys in Detroit mi last night. Wow what a live show..
This band is such a can of worms! They've got a lot more songs with unique arrangements and flavors layered throughout.
Mirrors/Obfuscation (1st 2 tracks off The Great Misdirect), is one of their better representations. Really fun listen🤙
This was such a treat. 🫨
This is my favorite song of all time, of any genre, and I'm so glad to see it getting the Key of Geebz treatment! This is the album that got me into really heavy metal and vocals. Because I was a jazz band kid, it made that music make more sense to me.
My favorite band and nothing else comes close.
As far as I'm concerned, this is one of the best songs ever written, when I first heard it as a teen, it blew me away and radically expanded my understanding of what music could be
It's definitely one of their standout tracks and a really good, diverse showcase of all the things they can do within a song. Next, you could either check out "Obfuscation", or "The Coma Machine" which is a newer song that leans more into the old school prog rock vibes you discovered here
One of the best songs ever written.
Next BTBAM's reaction: "Ants of the Sky" or "Sun of Nothing"
Pleeeeeeeease! 😍
Yeah! Was super glad to see you gave Between the Buried and Me another chance! Seeing your face change throughout was priceless!
My favorite band. Would love to hear your take on Archspire someday.
Archspire, yes! Hopefully a deep cut like A Dark Horizontal and not just Involuntary Doppelganger. Slice The Cake would be cool, too!
@@TheNigotube or their new track even
New Archspire is so far away. Good call, can't wait!
alright, this guy gets it **pleasantly*surprised*approving*nod**
Yes, finally! You should listen to another one of their tracks, Voice of Trespass. It's brilliant. Or Swim to the Moon. These guys are one of the best live bands I've ever seen. Tommy's vocals are incredible.
Nah, Voice of trespass is quite boring in my opinion. It's very predictable compared to all the other BTBAM songs. The "scat" section of the song is pretty cool but the rest of it is too much "swing"
@@MrTelorix It's a really fun song to have in Automata. It's fast and fun, would love to see it live just for the crowd.
@@LuiTheMinus it's very very good. I love viridian into White Walls and Desert of Song into Swim to the Moon as cliche as it is haha.
@@LuiTheMinus it definitely does. As strange as it is, Colors just doesn't do it for me quite like some other albums. Parallax II is my favorite, but it's also the album I started with.
Swim to the Moon would be sick.
Selkies was probably their main oo aaa track when it came out (that and Mordecai), but has since been joined by many others
Geebz! You've stumbled upon the best band on the planet - Love these reactions
Fuck the haters. You are amazing GEEBS
finally!!! we have been asking for soooo long hahaha.
What a beautiful song. I am so happy to see a first timer listen to this.
King Redeem/Queen Serene is such an amazing song by them. A bit more ethereal in some places, and just on a whole other level.
FIX THE ERROR!!! Between the Buried and Me's Opus....unbelievebly technical and multiple genres MASTERED!
Having seen BTBAM several times live including this song, I will just say, all their songs are “ooh ahh” tracks. Insane musicians. One of my all time favorite bands! Thank you for doing this one.
Colors 2- Revolution in Limbo is an amazing new track by them...
The whole Colors album is probably the pinnacle of their catalog. The musicianship on that album is one of a kind with so many beautiful nuances.
If Colors is so good, why isn't there a Colors II? Oh, wait...
Parallax 2 tho…
Now, time for White Walls!!!
Viridian, leading into White Walls.
Maybe do the live version from their live DVD...🤙✌️
The fabled Selkies sweeps can transport you through space and time making that few minutes feel like seconds, and then feel like hours afterwards. Has been and will continue to be my favourite band of all time, purely because each member can bring their amazing musicianship and meet in the middle seemingly effortlessly. Glad you got to experience it and really appreciate it Geebz!
I first heard Selkies 14 years ago when I was a teen. Since then BTBAM has been in my top 3 bands. Absolutely incredible
Between the Buried and Me - Never Seen / Future Shock
The ending of Selkies transports me to another plane emotionally. It feels like taking off into the clouds and leaving the world behind, and fits with the changes in the “movements” that you mentioned.
The aggressive middle section highlights the ugly side of human nature and all of the things that divide or control us. In the last section, we are finally free of all the worldly noise and able to truly enjoy the human experience. I think this is what he meant by “the sweet relief”.
LOVE BTBAM. and loved your analysis Geebz.
This is easily my favorite band. Every album brings something a little different. Pick anything. We will be here.
My favourite band ever I’d love to see you react to Swim to the moon or Ants of the sky!
This is one of my favorite songs of all time. Never gets old.
What riff machines these guys are!
Saw them play this live in NOLA. Thought the crowd was going to actually explode at the end.
The acronym is pronounced as B-T-BAM. So just three syllables. You're gonna fall in love with these guys and their tour just started if you want to see them live.
Bih
Tee
Bam
BTBAM
He’s in Hawaii I believe so it’s not likely. Idek when they’ve been there last
@@BCblade E. A. Sports. It's in the game.
I'd second Silent Flight Parliament along side STTM
I used to trip on shrooms and listen to this album back in like 2006. Good times.
Seen them live many times, but just recently was overjoyed to see them again as it was my return to seeing live music since shows were shut down last year. The show was originally supposed to be May 2020 then postponed to August 2021. It did not disappoint.
Viridian and white walls played back to back...
Ants of the Sky is fantastic, the whole Colors album really. Their whole discography is so varied and unique its amazing.
This band plays this song live note-for-note. Unbelievable band.
You said you’d love to see them live. Highly recommend.. they sound phenomenal live. Truly unbelievable
I'll have whatever yall we're smoking 😂
I've seen them live a few times, and they will routinely go from playing a 10 minute song STRAIGHT into a 15 minute long song! They have so much stamina!
You gotta do Ants of the Sky now. Or Sun of Nothing. Hell, White Walls too!!!
15:05-15:10 "Geez" is how you should feel after a BTBAM track
‘Backwards marathon’ is one of my favorite songs by BTBAM
Parallax: Hypersleep Dialogues and Parallax II: Future Sequence are a must. Really their entire discography is a must. Alaska is really where they came into their own - polished compositions - classic stuff
Absolutely 💯 yes
You got a like and subscription for doing this kind of reaction!
Love what you're doing Geebz. There's plenty of people out there breaking down music theory and - as a result - not getting the 'pure listener' first experience that we come to this channel for.
I'd love to see what you think about their song Voice Of Trespass.
This is one of the songs that really got me into these guys. Some other great ones to check out:
Extremophile Elite
Disease, Injury, Madness (this one is insane live)
The Proverbial Below
Silent Flight Parliament
Ants of the Sky
I could go on haha
Yes Extremophile!
All fantastic picks.
Silent Flight Parliament is one of their best compositions hands down, just so powerful from the first beat
They have live videos where they do the whole colors album and its epic
BTBAM is one of the most talented bands in the world... So AMAZING!! Glad to see them on your channel...... Their album Colors is a Pink Floyd start to finish type of listen... I think you would love their newer stuff, its 100% more funk prog metal :))
I hope you check out The Future is Behind Us from their new album!
I wouldnt say that this is there "oo-ah" track as they have soooo many incredibly composed and played songs... How about "Telos" by them next?
Yes!
My 2nd favourite song behind Ants of the Sky 😍😍
You should do BTBAM - Voice of Trespass if you really want to be baffled
