Idk about traction theory. Either flip or grip is what stops a crawler. So the weight would help on either tire!! Sorry put best tires on it and see what happens!! I mean like what a truck is stuck little extra weight always helps grip!!! Love your stuff dude!! And you making me want one of these even more
That does make sense. I really thought the brass would make a bigger impact no matter which tire was on it. The truck really is soo good, I was afraid nothing would stop it if it had better tires on it! :)
Cool Stuff Troy. I have to say that body is REALLY selling this truck for me. Redcat REALLY seems to be doing their homework on ALL different platforms and are doing pretty darn well at it. A little extra weight in the right places is NEVER a bad thing for a crawler we know that. Thanks for sharing
Great vid! Suspension tuning, link geometry, good tires and proper balance are all you need for a good setup rig. You absolutely can easily over do it with the brass and be left wondering "why has my performance gotten worse". Whenever i hear someone talking about getting brass at my local crawl spots i will always talk to them about their rig setup to see if they actually need to throw money at it or just haven't tuned it. I will also point them to exocaged rc youtube channel to check out his Super Light rig that has no brass and is only 4 pounds and can hang with todays newest rigs that cost 5 times what he built it for.
I truly believe that light weight on a crawler is key. I have a TRX 4 that weighs about 5 and 1/2 lb with a 60/40 weight bias. I have a couple pieces of brass in the front but not much. I haven't met a crawler yet that I can't outperform.
I know rotating weight is usually to be avoided, buttt I feel like $20 brass inner rings up front might be a better option considering cost to benefit. 🤔
I agree with putting weight where it can do the most but I really don't like a lot of rotating weight although that doesn't necessarily apply to slow crawling. For some reason I've never been able to justify Brass Diff Covers but it is just about as low as you can get it. Great demonstration with and without. Now put your best tires on and do it again!
Another great video sir. Do you think brass plus adding the optional 20percent overdrive gears would improve it even more with the front pulling harder?
@@RoadsideRC Awesome. I have a new injora motor coming this weekend to hopefully get my wheel speed up as well as brass outer covers for the front. Was on the fence with the overdrive but I think I will be sticking that gear set in too. Thanks !
Great video troy, i think the treal upgrades are great for the redcats, but also on the weight side you can add too much also bit tires are a big part also, thanks troy
They were the worst tire I still had laying around. The fact that the truck still did so well, even with such a bad tire, really speaks to how good it is.
Great info as always, thank you for sharing this video its always gonna be weight in all the right places to get the proper tune and setup same in the 1:1 world great video! I see certain channels kinda tossing hate but also see the short comings of this particular rig once you really start to push to more of a performance aspect but it ca be done.
@@RoadsideRC I've gotten mine pushed to the limits 100% for sure, just dropped a new video on it now its either reconfigure the entire front suspension or it'll hang decent with medium capable lcg rigs
For the outer portal covers the ones you use in the video and the link for say that they are gen8 outer portal covers; and when I looked at treals website for the ascent outer portal covers they were different than what you used, so I'm wondering why you used gen8 outer portal covers?
The design for Gen8 and Gen9 are the same on the outer portal covers. When I purchased them - there was a lot of confusion because Treal didn't list a Gen9-specific portal cover. Note - the inner portals are a different design.
I took all 4 inner springs out of the shocks, added brass inserts to the power hobby pin tires. Thing is amazing.
I may do the shock mods as well!

What’s nice about treal stuff is it fits beautifully
Yes - it fit just perfect!

Yes sir! I am really impressed with what Redcat is doing lately!
I believe your spot on in your assessment.
Thanks!
Boy, that front stays planted now! Look at her go!💯😝🙌
Awesome stuff Troy!
Thank you!
Great tires and getting your shocks working their best is the way to go!
I totally agree!

Yes! I especially cringe when I see folks loading down rear axles with a bunch of weight.
Keep spreading the good word!

I'll still avoid that rotating mass.

With good tires - the truck just drives over EVERYTHING. With or without the brass.

I think both help, yes!

I would agree about the weight. My UGRC Dirty South has no brass, and it does really good.
Thanks for the feedback!

Enjoyed that video ,considering the Ascent for my grandsons. One Trx-4 not enough for my grandsons.
I bet he will like it. It is a great truck.
It's funny that you used the stock Basecamp wheels/tires. I bought new ones before I even got my Basecamp lol, sweet video! 🤙

Nice videos. I think it would be nice to have side by side video comparisons, so differences can be seen in real time.
Thanks for the tip!

Love the comment about you being round in the middle and you dont like going uphill!😂
It is just the truth!!! :)
Did your front differential cover block any steering ? I see one review on treal brass website that discusses that issue
I don't believe it did.
Even so, if it does for you, you can simply bend the front link slightly to gain the clearance back.
Thank you ! Love your upgrades !! Keep killing it !
Another great vid
Thank you!
It seems like 20% underdrive & brass in the front is a good combo.
I think it really is!
Are you changing out the motor and esc?
I will eventually. Typically I would go with the Hobbywing Fusion SE, but researching some other options just to try something different.
How do you think wheel weight strips around the front wheels would work?
I am 100% not a fan of adding rotating mass, so do not add weight to the wheels.
yep, brass killed my uphill angle by 10 deg. Helps alot when cornering a hightrail though.
Interesting! Would love to see that testing!
@@RoadsideRC i didnt film it but i have a pair of old trx4 axles ill swap and film it. Where would you like me to send it

What battery and charger do I need for this thing ? Help 😭
I use this battery: amzn.to/3N09k5b
And recommend this charger: amzn.to/3N1Oe6q
@@RoadsideRC nice! Thanks a whole lot 👍
I think putting more power a little more weight in front does help but if you can’t put it to the ground that it ain’t worth nothing
You make a very good point!
I feel sorry for whoever bought this RC and then they disassembled it and found out the hard way 😢
What did we find out the hard way?
