I swapped the chassis for the DSM Rock Warrior and then a Holmes 1400kv Revolver and Mini V3 esc and with the Capra axle swap it's up there with my Poized RC T3 that I have way more money in. Oh and I run the Stance 4.75 foams all around and they are huge but with Predator Krawlers they work great.
I feel like this comparison is not quite accurate. It looks like the comp truck was on a lowered droop setup and the redcat was on a full ride height trail setup. I feel like using the internal front springs, and no outers on all 4 corners or mini t springs on all 4 corners (no matter what front internal springs must be in place) this comparison would be more accurate for the redcat.
VRD isn't in droop just much softer. It's not really supposed to compare directly. More of "compare it to a benchmark I would like to see it get to." But yes the suspension needs some work. It's very stiff
@@Krazy4KVs yep I see. I'm sure you will get the ascent better tuned. I definitely enjoyed the comparison as it was, because it will show how much better the ascent can be with shock tuning.
I agree that running Mini-T front springs (soft in front, medium in rear) without internal springs gives the Ascent a much more controlled and predictable suspension. And that Fusion SE 1800kv should be a lot smoother than it looks in the video. Not sure what's going on there. I run a 1080 G2 and HH 550 15T Crawlmaster Sport in mine, but two of my friends run the 1800KV Fusion SE and they are very smooth at low speed.
@@Krazy4KVs the soft mini t fronts, medium rears, NO internal springs on all 4 corners, and 25wt fluid. The difference is amazing. I've tried 4 different shock setups and this woke up the ascent. Trim the fenders so flex isn't affected by the lexan.
You made it through but that was killer bro killer you got to kill her ass job brother I got me a little Channel going myself but I don't have the time for the big boy stuff right now I'm mainly focused on the 24th but damn good video man so far
It was sarcasm. I did NOT intentionally run harder lines to complete obstacles to handicap the Ascent. I had to approach obstacles differently because the trucks are different. That's why I have mentioned throughout the process that it isn't scientific. It objectively is not as good...yet. it may get there, it may not. I want to find out and give you all my opinion. Use my opinions and combine them with others. I don't suggest relying on one source for anything
Great comparison and agreed. I have both trucks. And you are spot on.

I'd like to see how it compares to the Redcat with the DSM chassis.
@GoDodgersGoLakers For me it's a night and day difference and I think it'll put it closer to the VFD. I'm in NC so we crawler similar terrain.
@bobbymulwee7641 I'm loving the upgrade. Definitely hitting lines that I couldn't before. I have a bunch of Treal and H-Tech products on it.

Seems plenty smooth to me. Might just be my poor (cold handed) throttle control. It's a nice improvement over stock for sure

I still love my Gen 8. Nice running footage 👍🏾 💯🔥
Man the VRD is just so good
It really is. It's been said a lot but it's impressive honestly
It's stiff competition but that's the point. It's kind of set the standard
great video kev i have the ascent its my first crawler

same set up front driveshaft came out from the front diff front half of drive shaft berring and all
50/50 grind that VRD thru gate 4. 😂😂😂
Totally gnar brah🤙🏼
Only a few parts left to change before it doesn't make any sense to start with a dedcat. The VRD moves just like the SCX10 pro. Very predictable!!!
Yep getting there but most of my trucks are the same. Axles and trans make the truck in my opinion. Everything else is just an accessory lol
From what 8m seeing you t99k different lines with each rig intentionally making one rig look bad
Yeah I wanna prove that I wasted my money on the Redcat and upgrading it...
So why continue to upgrade it if you feel like you wasted your money
