The tear at the beginning was amazing lol. Cold showers have been a really good addition to my life, since they make me get out of my comfort zone and afterwards the feeling is really good, so if anybody wants to start on this is as easy as getting under the cold water within a period of time and progressively decrease this time and increasing the one you spend on it. At least that's what i did

@Ford Folton well in my case, it’s a mix of both because I usually shower after getting home from the gym. I also use them as an opportunity to get in peace and even meditate a bit sometimes, so that explains the mental feeling. With these periods of time I stay under the water all the time and when I get out it feels great and helps me to not get so sore after my workouts. Hope I helped you bro! Also great videos, keep up the grind

Been doing cold and ice showers for nearly a year, also did a long cycle of semen retention and early (pre 5am) waking. I think it was definitely worth it. You should not throw out the hot showers but use them as a "reward". The cold shower starts the day, and as you progress- whether with work or working out or whatever your goals are- you end the day with the hot shower (if you earned it). Basically you are re-programming your mind to understand hardship is the default and norm, and comfort are rewards. When comfort is unearned, that's when laziness creeps in.

A lot of people are choosing between hot and cold showers when in fact if you just take cool showers its actually more comfortable than hot showers and just feels like jumping in a pool

Ive been doing a mix of warm and cold showering, I take a normal hot shower until I feel like im warm and ready to leave the shower, then I turn the shower to max cold. It doesnt feel as bad when your body is hot, it feels refreshing. At the end im also cold as hell and shivering but its easier to overcome to inial burden of stepping under the shower. This is obviously resulting in rapid change of body temperature and is said to be great for the immune system. Also if youre interested in the science of cold exposure, the reason you feel amazing after cold showers is that the sense of "pain" or destress that you brain signals goes away, this results in prolonged dopamine release.

I did hit cold therapy for 2 years. Eventually I stopped because I found I’d struggle to get out of bed in the morning because I was dreading the cold water so much but other then that I definitely experienced the benefits you stated; that’s why I was able to stick to it for two years.

I was the exact same when i first started 3 months ago. The best advice I can give you is when you enter the cold shower/lake etc, try not to think about how cold it is just get in and stay relaxed. Do not tense your body and obviously focus on your breathing.

My experience with cold showers became a lot better when I started ending HOT showers with the cold.
The difference in temp accentuates the results and benefits you receive from cold showers, plus, I still have the hot one for shaving, thinking, and a little peace from the chaos of the day.

I often do a cold shower twice a day. My personal tip is to get the body soaked in cold first and then do the head/ears last. Smoother transition IMO and avoids brain freeze. And then just focus on breathing. Enjoy the energy boost afterwards! If I’m not feeling up to it, I just tell myself “It’s just cold water, and I’m in control of how long I stay in it. It can’t hurt me.”

I've heard that cold water exposure is actually much more effective when done after hot water exposure. And it was some ridiculously small amount of time you need in cold water compared to hot to get meaningful results. Iirc it's 11 minutes of cold water per week and just under an hour of hot, though those might be a little off. The idea is to take a hot shower/bath and then get in cold water for a couple minutes a day. You also want to air dry not towel dry. Just stuff I've heard around, no references or anything so take it with a grain of salt. Hopefully this helps a little.

What I used to do when I was in the military was take a hot shower for like 10 min and slowly progress the change of temperature to the coldest and leave it there for about 5 min. So you still get your nice hot shower and the benefits being awake and alert with the cold shower.

Congratulations, Dylan. What's helped me is not thinking about it too much and just getting in the cold water. I found that I 'suffer' more thinking about it vs. getting it over with. Also, focus on relaxing with your mind instead of the normal reaction of clenching, shivering, insert_your_reaction, etc. It's definitely mindset training for me (I'd wait a few seconds as the cold water came down then consciously step under it very deliberately focusing on relaxing my breath immediately).
Also, I attribute the cold showers to helping boost my immunity during Covid up to now. I finally had my first a cold before Christmas (last was Jan 2020), and a couple of co workers had their cold into the 2nd week. I was feeling better on Day 4 (that included cold showers starting Day 2).

    Greetings,
Cold enjoyment is able to be achieved by slowly acclimating to the temperatures.
Personally,I love the cold. In fact growing up my bedroom never had heat, evening through my 4th year of college while living at home on the farm.
Now in my 60's, and currently un southern Illinois, I keep my home between 38-48°F. Heck I have not yet had the need of turning my household furnace on, instead use a simple Space Heater at times along with an electric blanket to keep the chill under control.
Also, you should not out your head under the cold shower, only from the neck down; and, during the shower keep yourself focused on using a washcloth with your choice of soap. Your head does not need to acclimate, and actually, there is no need to suffer brain freezes. While out in the cold, like your mentor/challenger, we typically wear a head cap.
Also, during such training I recommend an initial shower to be 100°F completing one's shower and gradually reduce the temp to 98°F and the next day begin with 98°F and after completing your shower being it gradually down to 95°F.
Repeating this pattern of reduction by 3 to 5° each session so one can gradually acclimate. Secondly, be aware that going below 88°in not advisable since the human heart actually ceases function around 82.4°F. Now it would take some time to get one's Core Temp down to that lower temperature but avoiding that inevitability is advisable, as it is also when one is stressing their body to tolerate temps in the 30's, one does not permit their Core Temperature to get into that danger zone of become a deceased person due to the heart stopping.
I love the cold, and especially when we have winters that incorporate these temps periodically through our 3 months of winter.
Oh, by the way, it really cuts down on the Electric and Fuel Bill's for heating during the winters.

I turn the water about as cold as I can stand it. I'm just not courageous enough to go all out. I've had a few findings. First, you definitely don't leave the water on your head for the reasons you've experienced. Second, the back seems to be more resilient for me so I start there. Lastly, if you go longer than 2 min, you're body will try to keep itself warm and you'll feel this rush of heat go through your body where you still feel it's cold water, but you feel kinda warm. It does for me anyway. It's very strange but a cool feeling.

I imagine if the world ended the day I hesitated to do something, I would feel regretful and so much regret pours in my head imagining a scenario where I chose to stay in my comfort zone.
It hurts more in the long run to be indecisive and regret everything you could’ve done but didn’t than the initial feeling you get going out of your comfort zone.
Im telling you man, if you want to overcome indecisiveness and be fullfilled in life, make everything a do or die scenario and you’ll easily get out of your comfort zone

Okay I feel like I have to share my experience so I live in Seattle WA one of the coldest places out there like it’s always cold and one night out of no where I find myself showering with hot water once again and I think to myself let me put some cold water on (at this time in my life I think I need to be more diligent) so I change it but I can’t move away from the water so I stay there I start shadow boxing to keep my body moving/warm and it works I’ve been doing this for 1 1/2 months now and I just stay there cold water running not moving just keeping my mind at ease it’s so therapeutic I do move around to get the water all over. Now I don’t feel that much cold anymore when I go outside like other people who are constantly cold all the time
I realize that it’s like this if we put chicken in hot boiling water it makes it tender but when we use cold it makes it harder, stronger and somewhat thicker and I feel my skin way more durable now after showering with cold water.

I like taking a warm (not hot but warm) shower to wash myself and turn it to cold for a minute or so. Really gets my circulation going and makes me feel really good.

Listen to the HubermanLab Podcast episodes on cold exposure and research Dr. Susanna Soeberg, who found out how often you should use heat and cold per week.

I like to take mine after taking a little while in the warmth while I do my normal cleaning and just try to get it on all the muscles for at least ten seconds just to get a little dopamine something about the temp change makes it easier for me as well idk tho I might be trippin
