Agreed. What are they reaching for by picking on Cobb? It's basically arbitrary enforcement at this point. Also, I'd guess most cars that are catless are likely flex fuel. I could be wrong, but doesn't that ironically mean that vehicles converted to flex pollute less than what the stock setup pollutes while running 93?
I was breaking in a motor swap, that couldn't physically be tuned due to green speed rolling out, unannounced to the public until the day of. My break in tune with a low rev limit and wastegate boost was the last tune I was able to keep on the AP, no other map would have worked unless I bought new heads, again, and rebuilt my engine, again. I HAD to go open source, I didn't want to, that's for sure. A lot of us had no choice but to switch to OS.
I wonder if any of this can be reversed due to the Supreme Court Chevron Deference ruling? EPA should be enforcing laws written by congress… not creating their own laws.
I'm all for regulating emissions, but going after enthusiasts, a TINY percentage of drivers, is just really dumb when you consider the actual minimal impact of it.
So this has been taken a little out of context. This has been going on for about 2 years and the case finally settled. The whole point of green speed was because of this. COBB has already put in place the plan to be compliant ( hence requiring AP manager to be updated when connecting to the internet and then requiring AP, defeat device, to be updated before you can use it. So this doesn't affect things as much as people think currently because COBB has already complied with the agreed fixes. Also VB CAN Gateway soon!! Even though I have a VA with CAN...

@heavymetalwrx You shouldn’t shy away from the political side of this issue. It’s fundamentally political. One political party is the direct source of all these regulations, therefore directly impacting all car owners looking to modify their vehicles. California has the worst & most aggressive anti-ice laws & regulations. What political party runs CA? What party introduced these regulations? If you don’t drive a Tesla, you are their enemy. Pretty straight forward. I would really like to see you take a stand against these EPA democrats ruining all the fun things we enjoy doing as a community.
The reason I don't want to discuss the political side is because I embrace change and do look forward to cars evolving beyond what I've known my whole life. Idk if full electrification is the way but something's gotta change, and eventually it will, whether it's because of politics, science, or just humans necessity to do something new.

Embrace what? race tracks going away, mods for our cars, shops going away, people losing jobs, getting fined yea that's sounds great! That's why the whole car community needs to come together if we want to keep what we have and not have it taken from us. It s political and will always be.

Eh. The language is important here with regards to anything employees have. "Request that Cobb Tuning's employees forfeit..." blah blah. Not require - because that's essentially impossible. So they have to request it from the employees. The employees can say no. And the following line, "Require Cobb tuning to offer to buy back" - so, Cobb Tuning has to offer to buy back. The employees can refuse the offer. The ruling doesn't force Cobb to in any way penalize or reprimand employees for refusing from what I can see. So, employee meeting at Cobb: "Hey guys. We would like you to remove x y z devices from your cars and we can buy them back." Employees: "Nah." Five minute meeting. Requirements fulfilled.
Lame, they have trying to work within the system at least as far a CA is concerned. It doesn't seem like they have been trying to circumvent the system.

What could possibly go wrong. 😅 I’m calling it right now
I suppose the EPA better ban ALL vehicles on the road older than the mid 90s. Cats weren't required back then, why are we allowed to continue driving them? While they're at it, restrict the number of airline flights I'm allowed to take each year, that'll really provide "clean' air for our future and our children. This is a fucking joke, they need to use their resources towards something that actually benefits society. I'm not an EV hater, but why don't they currently set goals and regulations for future EV disposal/recycling?? It's not an issue yet, but we're not going to be able to just crush EVs.....can't just leave them in a junkyard to rot. The environmental repercussions at the end of an EVs life are just as serious as the harm caused during their battery manufacturing.
In 1970, President Nixon created the Environmental Protection Agency and signed the Clean Air Act, which required all new cars sold after 1975 to have a catalytic converter.
@@suqmadiq68 for the US, sure. The rest of the world didn't follow suite until the 90s. Also all diesels didn't require cats until the 90s in the US, either. Why are US import laws allowing catless cars from all over the world to be imported? (25 year import law) I'm not against importing, cause I feel they're impact on the environment is negligible as well, similar to modifying modern vehicles. I feel someone/some party is in charge of these laws that doesn't know better, or they have an ulterior motive unrelated environmental protection.

Hahaha I’ve gotten better average mpg since going e60 too
I feel like the EPA is just looking for low hanging fruit here. Picking on a company that doesnt have big time lawers to back em. Also im sure the amount of catless cars out there represent less than 1% of cars.

Excellent point!
Yes. People need to start groups like Gun owners of America, maybe Tuners of America 🤔. They need to challenge these cases and get them overturned.
@@jonathanb1987a solid amount of people would get on board with that
I'm all for regulating emissions, but going after enthusiasts, a TINY percentage of drivers, is just really dumb when you consider the actual minimal impact of it.
People who were complaining about the sti being discontinued.. things like this were the exact reasons why.. I also understand why this is all happening but it still sucks.

I doubt it was Toyota. The FA24 turbo as it is pretty inefficient fuel economy and emissions wise. A tuned up or EJ version would probably be getting the same mileage as a V8.

This is more for a COBB tuners where they no longer can disable oxygen sensors or any emission tuning deletes. This has been enforced since late 2022. If you have been tuned prior to that nothing changes. You can still modify your car just do it a right way.
I was about to post the same, folks don’t read at all.

Cobb should take this straight to the Supreme Court.
I just heard of a large diesel performance shop with this similar case, and more fines north to $10 million.
The fight is on now. This is unjust and these companies need support. We need to demand proof our cars are indeed causing us to die via air and climate change. I feel like the EPA got a green light from somewhere within the last few weeks and I would like to know more.
Hopefully the right attorneys are getting involved. 👊

Voting will not make an iota of difference. Never has. Never will. You believe in fantasies and fairytales.
Our cars arent political buddy. Its just basic proven science. Otherwise, couldnt you just pray the EPA away?

Can a WRX be tuned and still be EPA compliant? Can we still get our cars tuned with the accessport?
The EPA said COBB could still sell there tuners, so i would think you still can. We just can't remove the catalytic converter and bypass the codes. Am I getting this Right?
@@WRooXter that is correct!

375wph/350tq on e60. Went flex at 30k miles and so glad I did it back then. Car now has 130k miles on it running strong. D-Mann tuning ftw
This is what I thought. When I talked to Marshall he said they are running everything through the board and making sure compliance was 100%.
Looks like ill be ordering a Link fury. If i can't turn off the CEL for rear 02 and TGV deletes the AP does me no good.

What could possibly go wrong. 😅 I’m calling it right now
This Cobb settlement was already settled since the beginning
Point being that the EPA today is arbitrarily deciding that a niche market for car modification is harming our environment.
They will eventually one way or the other make it impossible to not have an enslavement vehicle with all the spyware and tethered to the grid in 15 minute cities.
I think Cobb should appeal this and take it all tbe way to the Supreme Court under the premise that the court already made in regards to Chevron Deference.
They don’t have a large legal team, that would be a suicide mission. They’re gonna have to lay low for a while considering more than 10% of their yearly revenue is now just gone.
@ludicrousspeeds4938 wow, that's sad to hear man. Maybe other tuning companies can come together and file a class action aga8nst the EPA, again focusing on the chevron deference decision. The EPA can't actually do this anymore because of Chevron it's kind of like all the laws that they're trying to make for weapons manufacturers laws are there for a reason rules are meant to be broken and if they can't figure out what the difference is then what's the point of the government?
