Have to move to Cali for a job so the heavily armed rec vehicle for CO (4runner, Boss, ARB, Gobi, etc) will not be the DD out there. (lol) I am in on the WRX value prop and I love the fact that it is basic utility inside. Top of short list for the new DD. I am new sub! love the channel -cheers
I have had mine for 10 months now. I still hate the cladding and I think my car is ugly. I will like it more after I paint match it. I'm sure I will like it more after I tune it. For the time being, I am not in love with it but it's fine.
For those that hate the cladding it is a lot of money to "fix" it. I feel like it's cheaper to just start liking it so you can spend money on other things 🤷♂️
@@HeavyMetalWRX Mercifully I work in a paint shop so it's not expensive for me. I'm skilled enough to do it and make it look good. I tried liking it but I can't hate it. They say "You bought the wrong car if you don't look back at it walking away." I've never looked back walking away in fact I don't even want to. The cladding and the rear bumper just looks revolting to me. What were they thinking? I am excited about the potential of the FA24 engine though.
I honestly love the way you stylized the appearance of it with the black accents here and there, they really compliment the black fenders. Also, Happy Thanksgiving!
As someone who owns the car, the bumper is still a major No from me However the performance for the budget the car offers (which its sad to say 30k is budget for a new car now) just couldnt be topped. I live in washington and see quite a bit of snow and bad weather. While in some cases snow tires with a proper driver should be enough, but why take that risk? I bought the base model but i intend to strip parts from higher trim models down the road when I can afford it.... like those beautiful gt spec seats or the better infotainment system That jdmuscle rear bumper to replace the current diaper is a game changer in terms of appearance for sure, along with the paint matched fenders. Definitely a huge upgrade in terms of appearance and im glad that others will appreciate it as well
Hello sir, Thank you for this video. I have a 21 Veloster N and its not really ideal for my type of climate. I think you have convinced me and I am now searching local inventory. Thanks again.
Wow that is fantastic! I believe you will absolutely love your WRX but still test drive and see! Let me know if you do get one. If it's your first WRX try to get it in world rally blue. You'll feel like a rally star 🤘🤣
I hate how quickly it gathers dust. But you get used it it rather quick. Got into a family members crosstrek and the much smaller screen felt so strange.
@@truckinguy92 I live in The New England area. I’m in my early 30s with a clean driving record. My insurance company wanted $335 a month! I had to combine policies with my wife’s car insurance and now I only pay and extra $115 a month. What a scam.
Thanks for the channel! I don't get the hate on this model. Subaru did something that was anti-headline on two fronts, no STi and made the regular WRX far, far, far more reliable. The haters get the FA20 v. FA24 dead wrong. Sure, from the factory the low-boost FA24 makes the same ultimate power as the FA20 running at higher boost. Further inspection shows it makes the power for a broader range of rpm and a dead flat torque cover. The FA24 in our Ascent is bulletproof. 80k miles now, with over a half dozen long (1000 mile+) family trips, fully loaded with seven people and a roof rack full of luggage through mountains going 75-80. The looks? Since when is any WRX a looker??? Since when is any Subaru a Jaguar E-type? Our Ascent has exactly the same proportion of body cladding, and it is.a Limited model. No one ever complained then about plastic fender flares. But here in PA, they keep the body free of nicks from rock salt and grit. Love the power. I'm at a DM tune, Grimmspeed drop-in filter, AWE Touring CBE, shift stop, pitch stop, and some cosmetics. Spring I'm going ETS intake and getting the upgraded DM tune. I've owned over 25 cars in my life, and this is my favorite by far!
Speaking to the pricing, they are one of the only new cars you can get for under the MSRP price. I see them listed near me new at dealership for $29,999
I plan to test drive one (VB WRX) next week. I’m keen to see how it goes, but the Hyundai i30 Sedan N (Elantra N) is ridiculously good. I recently drove a GR Corolla, and I couldn’t justify the price, especially after driving the Hyundai.
Realistically if you don't need AWD and aren't really gonna go down the modded route, the Elantra N is an exceptional option. I try to remain as biased as possible because there are so many good options. The issue with the Elantra N ( at least in Missouri) is it's marked up still and not readily available. This is where the VB shines.
@@HeavyMetalWRX I’m in Australia. We don’t seem to have the mark ups you guys have. I am a Subaru fanboy. I currently own a 2013 BRZ, and recently looked at a 2007 STI Forester. I am certainly looking forward to test driving the current WRX. In Australia the WRX and Elantra N are around the same price, but the Elantra N gets heated and cooled seats and rear air vents, which seem to be missing from the American version.
Im a vw guy mk7.5 gti currently its a monster but i have to admit the subbie sounds so much nicer. 😢 i am actually considering wrx vb for my next car i hate that vw discounted the 6 speed in gti/r
I had a mk6 GTI 6 speed. I had an APR stage 1 tune and that thing was a ROCKET. Mechanically never had any issues but I spent at least almost 7k on electrical work. I still have a spare alternator in the garage for it because shit kept breaking. If it was t for that I'd still have had it today.
Obviously not a super car, but when I play around on the road. They always ask HOW MUCH HP THAT THING HAVE! I reply, idk, not much! Graham got this thing beaming. E40 tune eats!!!
That's the great thing about the WRX. I get a lot of people asking me questions at the grocery store and the gas station about the car. It helps that the car looks modified so I get asked about the power and if I race it 🤣
My VB was the one and only car my wife watched me test drive it and just said "Yeah you should buy it" Edit: Damn you and your tune, that looks like a blast and makes me want to go and buy everything for a tune tonight!!
Hahaha dude kudos on the wife support! As for the tune.. it's intoxicating. It's not 1000hp but it damn near feels like it. Tbh just get an intake and tune and you'll talk in low all over again.
I've been debating for the last year but I think I'm going to get it. I'll definitely do some cosmetic mods but a little reluctant to mess with the engine (at least while it's under warranty). Would you say a premium is worth it? I'm 25 and really do appreciate the bigger screen and have heard it's the best value trim. My father however is telling me the best deal is the base model. What do you guys think?
My biggest complaint about my VB WRX is that it has no steering feel. (I would have said it's the brakes, but that's easily remedied if you have $). The main thing I like about it over my VA WRX is that it makes more HP with a tune.
You could kind of add some more rigidity by adding the steering damper from Perrin. I'm going to try that. Now the issue is the dual electric pinion system. It's just the future of some cars unfortunately. Once I got coilovers and different tires the steering changed. It's much heavier so that might be one way to combat it
@@dewjustin road noise is better but not a whole lot. Car rides a bit higher than the VA so that helps. The handling is so much better. Even on the twisty back roads it's fantastic. On the autocross it's an absolute MONSTER even with the stock tires. Once I got my upgrades racing tires it was night and day. Stock vs stock the VB just feels so tight in the corners.
Great video, and happy Thanksgiving!!! You make me want to void my warranty more with every dang video 😭. I hate to bother you with this question but what shift knob do you have?
Thanks very much for sharing your point of view with vb Wrx, personally just a little bit concern about the RTV issue, have you dealing with that issue? Any advice of that? Thanks🙏🏻
@@HeavyMetalWRX Thank you very much for clear that out. that’s really help to make a decision on purchasing the new Wrx. Look forward to your next video👍🏻
There are videos on RUclips with many vb wrx with rtv issue.. not sure if it would result in long term issues but definitely still loose rtv floating about
@@jonttran1092 the first few months there were random clips and videos floating around on Facebook. It seems those engines were out together around the same time / area that the BRZ engines were. Thankfully it has been confirmed 10x over that the oil pickup is superior to the NA FA24. Plus if anyone would have had issues with rtv or engine issues....I promise you it would have been me 🤣😂
Are you having issues with the OEM mud flap push pins coming loose on the front? That innermost clip on the bottom comes loose once a week on mine unfortunately. Definitely not the best design, but I hate the look of aftermarket flaps.
Sold my 2015 STI when I ordered my 911S. Should have kept it but ran out of garage. Did you achieve 380 hp with a tune and a couple bolt ons? or did you have to dig deeper for that? thanks
Hey there! 380 is possible with intake, jpipe, and even TMIC. You can even hit 400. I believe the intake I have is a restricting factor as it's smaller than the others on the market. Grats on the 911s!
I genuinely can't decide what I want. A BRZ, WRX or save up more for a Porsche . The new BRZ and WRX don't seem special enough compared to STI, and the new TS/TS models seem grossly overpriced. Obviously part of that is me falling for STI branding, but also me wanting to retain car value.
Do you regret not getting an Elantra N? All the reviews heavily praise the Elantra N and pan the VB wrx. I’ve driven both and honestly think they are very close, maybe the Elantra N is better but only by a hair
I don't at all. I did a video with an Elantra N and sat in it (didn't get to drive it). I know people say "lOl hYuNdAi" but I honestly think it's a fantastic vehicle. Personally I would never buy it over a WRX because of my love for the brand and it's history/legacy. When I was 16 is when I knew I wanted a WRX. Plus the aftermarket support is MUCH greater for the WRX and the option to turn into a rally/dirt/overlanding car(which is exactly what I'm doing this January). Both cars have their place but for me to have seriously considered it unbiased the Elantra would have had to be AWD.
Oh man that'd a lot of waiting. Tell you what. In 3 years I hope you're still watching because I want to know how you feel the first time you floor your Tuned VB 🤘
@44actual that’s my biggest fear is modding it then something catastrophic happens, and not even because of the mods. I’d be screwed because I’d never be able to afford to buy a new motor. I know nothing about boxer engines but it would’ve been nice if this made the same horsepower and torque as the ecoboost Mustang. To get the VB there you’re looking at least a couple of grand. I have to admit even stock it is fun to drive, I just wish it was a little faster. Personally I’d like to do the opposite of most and turn it into a true off road type vehicle. You know raise it up a few inches and put some mild off road tires and wheels.
@@truckinguy92 so just to give you an idea a stock Ecoboost from 2015-2021 makes 259hp to the wheels. A stock VB makes 255-260hp to the wheels. It's pretty much identical. I do understand the sentiment about the engine and warranty. It is an absolutely valid worry. The expectation is that nothing will happen and it's possible that for 99.99% of people that will be the case. However, there are always outliers!
@@HeavyMetalWRX not trying to be argumentative here and I know there’s power lost to the driveline. But how does a Mustang loose 61 hp and the WRX only loses 16-10 hp especially considering it has to throw it to 4 wheels instead of 2? EcoBoost is 310 hp rated and the WRX is only 271 hp. This is of course comparing manual to manual 6 speed.
There is no confirmation. At this moment it has been speculation and echo chamber stuff. People have been angry and just been believing whatever they want.
Hey there! Where are you from? Is 98 the 93 equivalent? You definitely want to use good high tier gas ( no low level or leaded). You can put nid grade gas in if you have to but you will definitely experience some lack of power.
@@HeavyMetalWRX hello thanks for your reply im from kuwait .. We have 3 types of gasoline 91 premium 95 super and 98 ultra I think in your country the 93 octane is 98 RON in my country
So in order to make this power you need a Cobb AP (725), an intake (300-400), a jpipe (1200-1500). You could do it on a stock intercooler but it's suggested to get an aftermarket one ( 800 for TMIC, 2000 for FMIC). The. Factor in the cost of a tuner.
The problem is that's a luxury sedan. The WRX GT isn't. It's still a WRX with some added features but it's main purpose is spirited driving where as a G70 isn't meant for that. It's heavy, slow, and it's AWD is software based. I doubt it's bad but just different. I'm not sure people are cross shopping a WRX and a G70 as these would be different driving styles. Although I wouldn't suggest a WRX GT either. Id get a premium with the SPT if you need an automatic.
@@HeavyMetalWRX Thanks for the reply. I’m shopping everything in this price range, including used Caymans/Boxers. I don’t really want an auto, though it seems Subaru might have made something good with the “SPT” and it’s fixed gear ratios (see Engineering Explained). What I really want is the adaptive suspension, only available on the GT. Not every day is a track day; sometimes you just want to cruise. Going to test one out this week.
The FA20 is better in every way by leaps and bounds with the power you can make with it compared to the ej and fa24 and the fa24 less than the ej. That is why people hate it and cause of the looks. No wrx fan I know here in the greater sacramento area likes the looks or engine. Subaru made a mistake getting rid of it so soon just how they screwed up the 2022+ with the looks. It looks god awful. The fa24 is a hauling engine and for non modding. EDIT: I have a 2016 wrx with about $10k in it and it makes 400hp to the wheels, 375 to the crank, 0-60 in 3.3 seconds, E85.
@@HeavyMetalWRX That is personally what I have seen looking at various videos online, forums and cars from my area. I obviously could be wrong. Someone I know put 20k into his 2014 sti and it still wasn't as fast as mine with half the money put in. I literally, to get to 0-60 3.3 second times for the 2016 wrx with 375whp, if you just count engine mod prices, i put about $7k into my engine. Can you do that with the ej or fa24?
I haven't taken it out with the draggy on full e85. In a little hesitant because inahev so much torque but I think for science I'll make that video next week.
@@HeavyMetalWRX love how you do things, looking forward to that video. Mine is bone stock because in Canada you can’t even do a cold air intake as it voids warranties

missed a few videos your car is looking really good!!! ive decided the wrx is not the right car for my body bad back n stuff.. perhaps going for the luxury outback xt ... do they do tunes for the outbacks xt ?
The problem with the 380s is gonna be massive markup l. If you can find one and are ok with out AWD then the GTI is a fantastic choice. Most people tend to get WRX so they can use them all year round and in bad weather.
@@HeavyMetalWRX that’s why I’m having so much trouble! I found a VW dealer that’s selling at pure MSRP, and a Subaru dealer doing the same. I drove both and loved them both, so I’ve never had such a hard time choosing

I'll wait for Subaru to make the cosmetic corrections! Why should anyone have to pay out of pocket to make the car look correct? I do like some aspects of it though.
@@HeavyMetalWRX there are many like myself that think otherwise. You brought up the JDM bumper? Why would people want to spend god I don't even know what it sells for; but if I would have to guess; probably 1500 min? To get a 45000 dollar (Canadian)new car to look right. Then the ugly forester cladding? which guys have corrected and looks good. I like the car; not here to argue and I am happy for those enjoying it.
Thanks so much ! I'm glad you're finding value in the channel 🤘
Makes no sense why you would buy a vehicle you “hate”. 😳
I honestly love the way you stylized the appearance of it with the black accents here and there, they really compliment the black fenders. Also, Happy Thanksgiving!
Thank you so much! With the white I knew I was going to embrace the cladding and really give it some style. Glad you like it 🤘
Thankful for you!
❤️🤘🙏 Same bro, same
Great video! Always thankful for this car. Vb for the win!
As someone who owns the car, the bumper is still a major No from me
However the performance for the budget the car offers (which its sad to say 30k is budget for a new car now) just couldnt be topped. I live in washington and see quite a bit of snow and bad weather. While in some cases snow tires with a proper driver should be enough, but why take that risk?
I bought the base model but i intend to strip parts from higher trim models down the road when I can afford it.... like those beautiful gt spec seats or the better infotainment system
That jdmuscle rear bumper to replace the current diaper is a game changer in terms of appearance for sure, along with the paint matched fenders.
You'll feel like a rally star 🤘🤣
i hate the ipad in the center display but everything else IMO is perfect.
I hate how quickly it gathers dust. But you get used it it rather quick. Got into a family members crosstrek and the much smaller screen felt so strange.
The only thing I don’t enjoy about my 23 vb is the insurance rates. They are borderline extortionate
I agree I’m paying more for the WRX than what I was paying for my 21 Mustang GT.
I've owned over 25 cars in my life, and this is my favorite by far!
civic looks much better then new wrx specially from back. love your videos though
🤣🤣 idk man I like the WRX rear more than the new civic. The old civic looked so good with the edges.
Speaking to the pricing, they are one of the only new cars you can get for under the MSRP price. I see them listed near me new at dealership for $29,999
This is the best part about so many people hating on the VB so early. We could have had markups if people knew what they were capable of.
Great video!!
The shark eye
Obviously not a super car, but when I play around on the road. They always ask HOW MUCH HP THAT THING HAVE! I reply, idk, not much! Graham got this thing beaming. E40 tune eats!!!
That's the great thing about the WRX. I get a lot of people asking me questions at the grocery store and the gas station about the car. It helps that the car looks modified so I get asked about the power and if I race it 🤣
My VB was the one and only car my wife watched me test drive it and just said "Yeah you should buy it"
Edit:
Damn you and your tune, that looks like a blast and makes me want to go and buy everything for a tune tonight!!
Hahaha dude kudos on the wife support! As for the tune.. it's intoxicating. It's not 1000hp but it damn near feels like it. Tbh just get an intake and tune and you'll talk in low all over again.
The Subaru WRX is the Glock of the car world for after market support.
Haha what a fantastic way of putting it!!
When pushing to 384, did you have to upgrade your transmission or anything along the drivetrain?
I definitely want one, im waiting for the prices to drop...
I love my 23
Great video as always, Happy Thanksgiving 🦃
Same to you 🤘🙏
I've been debating for the last year but I think I'm going to get it.
It's much heavier so that might be one way to combat it
How is the handling compared to the VA, is it noticeably better? Also, how is the road noise, improved at all?
@@dewjustin road noise is better but not a whole lot. Car rides a bit higher than the VA so that helps. The handling is so much better. Even on the twisty back roads it's fantastic. On the autocross it's an absolute MONSTER even with the stock tires. Once I got my upgrades racing tires it was night and day. Stock vs stock the VB just feels so tight in the corners.
You can get a steering dampener from the aftermarket. Not hard to install and not expensive.
The vb is making silly power with a tune though, you throw on some bolt ons and starting running e it's a monster
Thanks🙏🏻
Hey there! RTV is a non issue on the VB WRX. This was an issue with the first Gen 2022 BRZ and gr Fa24 engines. You're safe from the RTV issue 🤘🙏
I believe some of the push pins did pop out!
Amen! Happy Turkey Day!
Same to you bud! 🤘🙏
975 miles on my 2023 WRX Base, still haven't taken the engine above 3k rpm :'(. So close
I thought 4k rpm was the break-in limit no?
I'll be real with ya. I did 500 miles on my VA and 250 on my VB. You will be 10000% fine. Rip it, my friend. 🤘
Subaru should give you a spiff
Hahaha dude I used to work at a dealership selling Honda, Mitsubishi, and Subarus. I got plenty of spiffs in my day 🤣
How’s the update for the infotainment system? Any bugs and how’s the screen response?
It's not bad. Subaru has always been behind when it comes to the infotainment. Id give it a 8/10.
You inspired me to go drive mine 😂
Vb wrx very mod friendly but i have concern. How much hp can handle to beat stock mustang gt?
Intake, intercooler, jpipe, and ethanol blend will do that easy.
@@HeavyMetalWRX my area ethanol very rare I will stick 93 pump
What can i do for carbon buildup please?
3 more years until the warranty runs out and I can really mod mine.
Oh man that'd a lot of waiting. Tell you what. In 3 years I hope you're still watching because I want to know how you feel the first time you floor your Tuned VB 🤘
@@HeavyMetalWRX Will do. I plan on keeping it till the wheels fall off.
I thought it was to replace the sti because the sti is going electric that's why they upgraded to the 2.4
There is no confirmation. At this moment it has been speculation and echo chamber stuff. People have been angry and just been believing whatever they want.
Love my vb have 11k miles on my 22 so far wife hates it lol😅
Hello, I have a question: Is the appropriate gas for this car 95 octane or 98 octane for daily use (stock)
Hey there! Where are you from? Is 98 the 93 equivalent? You definitely want to use good high tier gas ( no low level or leaded). You can put nid grade gas in if you have to but you will definitely experience some lack of power.
@@HeavyMetalWRX
hello thanks for your reply
im from kuwait ..
We have 3 types of gasoline 91 premium 95 super and 98 ultra
I think in your country the 93 octane is 98 RON in my country
How much did all the performance parts cost you?
So in order to make this power you need a Cobb AP (725), an intake (300-400), a jpipe (1200-1500). You could do it on a stock intercooler but it's suggested to get an aftermarket one ( 800 for TMIC, 2000 for FMIC). The. Factor in the cost of a tuner.
The price is getting up there though. I can pick up an AWD 300HP Genesis G70 with way more luxury and tech for GT money. Tough decision
Wait. If I understand correctly you're saying that the FA20 is a more efficient engine than the EJ and FA24? 😐
What size wheels and tires do you have on?
There are Cosmis Racing XT206R 18X9.5 +35 with Kimho Ecsta v730 265/35/18
What’s 0-60
And 1/4 mile now vs stock
I haven't taken it out with the draggy on full e85. In a little hesitant because inahev so much torque but I think for science I'll make that video next week.
@@HeavyMetalWRX love how you do things, looking forward to that video. Mine is bone stock because in Canada you can’t even do a cold air intake as it voids warranties

Top reason no.1, you like upgrading parts that just work on other cars. No.2, you like doing engine work. No.3, you love being frustrated by not being able to turn right under hard acceleration.
I'll wait for Subaru to make the cosmetic corrections! Why should anyone have to pay out of pocket to make the car look correct? I do like some aspects of it though.
