- We remastered Cosmos Laundromat in HDR starting from the original 32 GB master made up of individual PNG frames. This version has the best quality on RUclips. Cosmos Laundromat is a 10-minute short film, a funny and absurdist 3D-animated story.

People saying what the hell did I just watch, well it's not just about the video quality which looked incredible on my LG V30 btw, it is also a message. Let me see if what I got from it will resonate with anyone else. To me it is to show that no matter how down and out you may feel, as in if you feel like just another "sheeple" in the world as some refer to people. You can always truly find your happy place and sometimes receiving a little help from someone is not a bad thing. Never give up!

As of this date. Currently i have my s8 to the highest screen quality and the RUclips app only lets me view in 1080p.
I saw this video a while back in 1440p on the s8 and i can't anymore. Maybe RUclips removed that screen quality option for this phone?
I also find that watching hdr videos aren't stable at 1080p.

That being said, how is it that you guys have all these proper HDR versions of videos?
Seems like every other channel out there never switches to HDR on my TV be it on my UHD player app or the TVs app

A couple of things:
1) Not all devices support HDR and even if the hardware supports HDR RUclips needs to update their app to support that device.
2) If your device does support RUclips HDR and you have a good Internet connection then ALL the videos on this channel will trigger HDR.
Exactly what I'm saying, everything on your channel works fine in true HDR on my Vizio P65 but I think every other video on youtube labeled "HDR" does not Switch to HDR. So what is it that you are doing with the videos on your channel that the others arent.
There is a large number of great "store demo" type videos on other channels but my TV never switches to HDR
Here is my opinion:
1) RUclips HDR was only introduced in November 2016. Everything before that cannot be real HDR even if it has HDR in the name. Unfortunately a lot of people (even reporters!) get video HDR confused with HDR in photos. They are actually quite different concepts.
2) The hardware and software needed to color grade HDR is extremely expensive. This channel definitely does not make enough money to pay for it.
3) It's still difficult to generate HDR content files that RUclips correctly reads as HDR. I keep planning to post a tutorial on this but I just could not get to it yet.
Awesome! Yeah I think your reply is spot on. So, for now, it cant be as simple as getting a source copy of the real HDR video files we see in stores and do some "simple" conversion to upload to youtube right?
If you can actually get HDR demo files, especially the Samsung HDR10Plus demos, lots of people would tear your arm off for them! They are very tightly controlled and often now streamed over a secure link to Samsung HQ.

Looks great on my tcl 55s405. Reviews give it a meh rating on hdr peak brightness but to me it looks fantastic after calibration using the roku app. I'm not actually sure I would want it any brighter..

when you have a 2160p 60hz 28" 1ms monitor, and a decent 1440p gaming pc running it, but internet connection is only 6mbps.. watching 10 seconds for everyone 1 min of waiting for it to load..

What is the minimum bit-depth of an HDR video ?
Actually, there is no real minimum online. However, 4K Blu-Ray disks with HDR10 have a minimum of 10 bit. Disks with Dolby Vision are 12-bit.
to add to the HDRC's reply, you'll OFTEN find, NOT ALWAYS, that HDR games are 8bit because the 4K60 4:4:4 mode which is possible with HDMI is 8-bit due to the maximum bandwidth of HDMI. You CAN have 4K60 that's higher than 8 bit, but not with 4:4:4 chroma at the same time, that's all. Such as some games using 4:2:0 instead. This is made very clear on the link below posted in the other reply by The HDR Channel,
M Henry HDR games don't work at 4:4:4. The display switches to YUV420 when HDR metadata is read, to accommodate the 10 bit wide color gamut. HDR games are 10 bit in HDR10 as well.
Take a look at this table, it will show you that as frame rate goes up chrome sampling and maximum bits go down, even in HDMI 2.0 cables: www.hdmi.org/manufacturer/hdmi_2_0/hdmi_2_0_faq.aspx#146 Anyway, this discussion originally was about the video files themselves, not the cable used to display video on TVs.
I did not say HDMI was limited to 8bit, I said very clearly that it's the 4K60 4:4:4 mode which is limited to 8bit. Please click the link posted in the other reply by The HDR Channel.

Is HDR 10+ better then Dolby Vision ?
The new HDR 10+ from Samsung is comparable to Dolby Vision in the sense that they both have dynamic HDR metadata which can change luminance levels scene by scene or even frame by frame. However, I think Dolby Vision is still slightly better since the video is 12-bit vs 10 but fir HDR 10+.
Watching this on RUclips looks better than whatching it on the s8 default video player, I downloaded the file you put on drive and looks very saturated, losing detail i.e. the hair of the guy. Do you know why this happened. Thanks in advance

The HDR Channel it shows me a tag on the screen saying HDR, and I assume it does because it's the default player for HDR videos recorded by the phone, What I think it's that this could be an standard issue I heard that the HDR support for the s8 is very limited, Netflix doesn't play on HDR on s8 while it does on Note 8 and LG G6

well, this video seens like its contrest was not properly setup. everything is so dark.
ok, so it starts out really dark but stuff gets easer to see overtime.
being a die hard CRT user i need to do yearly gun re-balnces color re calibrations on my monitors. even with some years logged on these tubes i have yet to see a modern display that can reproduce the color depth, and 1536p 80hz is a decent for 18 year old monitors.
last year i installed a new old stock tube on my left monitor, probably never getting an opportunity like that again.
also these aint standerd P-22 there sony's SMPTE-C production phosphors.

As I said before in a previous comment RUclips has disabled All 1440p Quality videos for mobile due to Performance reasons but it's still available and higher and devices like TVs PS4 pros and other stuff like PCS
Gil - 1440p was removed as an option for my lg g6 as well. While researching this issue I came across youtube vanced. Download and you will not regret. I can watch hdr videos at 1440p 60fps. Its super fantastic.

The HDR is awesome but is it "real 4K?" I thought that most animated films were rendered at 2K resolution because of the power needed.
In this particular case the HDR is the real part. The master is rendered at 2K (so a bit higher than 1080p). Each frame took about 9 hours to render in Blender. We upscaled it to 4K so RUclips gives it a better bitrate. Actually, the vast majority of 4K Blu-Ray disks are like this (2K upscaled to 4K). They are too slow in migrating to 4K workflows, mainly because VFX is so expensive above 2K.
