I'll never forget seeing the Dead play the Winterland, in Frisco, October 1974. I was a mere 15 at the time, but this song has stuck with me ever since. Classical Dead; no more can be said.
Saw a number, especially back in the 70's. This is one, if not the best, Eyes that I have heard. Only wish that Branford's sax was in the mix. These guys never cease to amaze me.
this is one energetic band/crowd moment with the dead that sends chills down my back just watching on you tube. i can only imagine what it was like to be at that show.
My first show. My first tab. First Eyes opener ever. Jumped the wall. Wore a bunny suit. Didn't sleep for a while. Thanks Jerry!
I personally feel Bruce's keys here sound like the best compliment to the Dead's music over any keyboardist they ever had. It fits PERFECT.
My god what a surreal opening to a concert. I can feel the unique energy they created just from watching this. I can't even I imagune what it must have been like to have been there.
It's Bruce and Vince.
Bruce's inspired keyboard playing kicked Jerry up to a higher improvisational level and the entire band jumped on board for a great ride.
Great Video - Thanks Splaif
One of the best Bruce Era Eyes period!
Remember seeing this on ABC In Concert in late summer 91
This was my first show and almost died when it was on "In concert" later the same summer. My 1st show. Can you imagine? I was hooked!
My first show too!
This exemplifies the Dead. It's not about the money, or the fame, its about the music and sharing the experience. The flowing, existential, fluid, experience!
Remember how the rain broke just as the dead came out? ,and the sky turned purple. I felt like something glorious was going to happen, and then... they opened with eyes. What a show, The best of of 22 shows I saw before 95. Thanks!
Oh my god I remember that happening!!! I was there too. I was sitting here watching this thinking "I could swear I was at this one" ... the rain stopping and the band playing... I won't ever forget!
god i miss them too, it was a level of satisfaction in music that I dont know if I will feel again
The bliss that Jerry puts in my heart even today while watching these vids is so overpowering. We miss you Jerry. Forever Grateful Forever Jerry.
one of the most amazing dead songs ever. always fills me with joy and warmth when i hear it
Happy Birthday, Bruce Hornsby. I really got introduced to you when you sat in with those boys from Marin.
One of the best Dead shows I ever saw (out of a 100 or so). Opened with Eyes in the rain. Remember it like yesterday. Were you there??
Surely the greatest live band...saw this tour in London and converted dozens along the way... Jerry always the best trip guide..peace Brother
Every time I hear Jerry's voice I get a sort of warmth sensation in my heart. Long live the power of the Grateful Dead.
This show was amazing - I was there and it was the "Dark Star" show. Bruce and the boys teased it all night. Also the first "Eyes" first set opener since like 1974 or something was just amazing. Evidently it was Bruce's suggestion.
Bruce looking at jerry with awe and trying to keep up xoxo
I always love playing this clip ... Jerry n Bruce in the zone is spot on.
i can't tell you how many times i've came back to this video. truely beautiful. i'd do anything to be in that crowd.
just listening to this cut again for the 1st time since the show, such a special time having Hornsby, keeping the boys honest a true showman, bright shiny energy, God bless him!
I've watched this so many times (and was lucky enough to be at this show) and my favorite part is still those few seconds starting at 4:27, love Jerry's guitar and then Bruce's smile :)
Brings a smile to my face and a tear to my eye. The only show I ever got first row tix, what I would do to go back and experience that night again.
Beautiful. Gave me chills listening to this.
Was at this show as well. One of the eyes i lsten to the most. Eyes opener was off the charts. i Had the whole song with jam prior pegged at over 16 minutes. Just groovin on this. Jerrys rippen 91 a very good year!
thank you for posting what is in my opinion the single best video on youtube (part two included)
Spectacular jam, Jerry's solo and the keyboard work is breathtaking.
This was the show where it started pouring rain during the encore, ad they stopped jamming and played 'Box of Rain'. Most people ran out of the rain and I ran up to the front and it was like they were playing to me. Thanks for the memory!
The highlight of my 90+ shows from 1990-95....they started late to flim for NBC's 'In concert' and when they opened with Eyes I was in total bliss.
Bruce is hanging with the BOYZ-and loving it-great job!
Really took me back on this one, genius, what a natural high this song is
I was there and remember it to this day as one of the best shows ever.
@Ron Johnson that was my first show. what a mind blower that was. the weather was crazy, eyes opener and now looking at this video, the interation between Jerry & Bruce was fantastic. the best part was that Jerry looked so happy it looked like the wind blowing his hair was going to carry him away.
In my 15 years and 100+ shows of seeing the GD, this was one of my most memorable shows. An Eyes opener just blew everyone's mind and what a great version. I also remember numerous Dark Star teases throughout the show. Along with the 3/29/90 version with Branford, which was arguably one of the best versions ever, at least latter day, this was just one of those great indescribable GD moments.
awesome memory, thanks for sharing it with us
This video illustrates the fun that the shows were. Gawd, I miss them.
easily the best and most vibrant eyes
One of my alltime favorite eyes. Jerrys playing is incredible beyond words on this jam
thank you for the music! rest in peace my brother!
Jerry's playing is amazing, what a guitarist!! Love the Grateful Dead!!

Man O Man, I love da Greatful Dead, and this video is fantastic!
Vinnie on keys!! Met Vince Welnik around 1999 or 2000 in Vermont at a little side of the road bar near Sugarbush ski resort town, he was such a cool guy. After his first set he came over and talked to me and my girlfriend, and signed my bar napkin. He did a memorable version of 'Let It Be' that night. Place was packed with skiers and locals. ...Saw the Grateful Dead once in 1991 at Veterans Stadium, still have the ticket stub!
garcia was the best guitar player ever
Ranked just below #50 on Rolling Stones top 50 guitar players of all time. What a crock of shit! #1 in my book!
Ahhhhhh
"JUST STARTED DANCIN" !!!
saw em when they went on tour with this; my first dead show! (Had to hear it this morning )!
dozens of shows ago...

Remember this one well, rain just stopped ran into a group of friends and exchanged hugs, eyes started playing and we started dancin!! Great show, day before was not. When the gd did the Sun-Mon thing at Giants Monday was always the night!!
This brings back great memmories, great show, I remember calling the Eyes opener walking into the lot.
When Jerry comes in at 4:26.....it just blows me away. Bruce Hornsby is blown away too.....jut look at him smiling at that time.
a truly excellent performance, jerry completely tore it up on this one
This song is a message. You are the life of Earth.
First Eyes to open a show ever...incredible.
Nobody ever coulda got enough. Whether you saw them 3 times, or 300 times. But its good to see the original rhythm section back on tour!! And Bobby and Phil really stepped up since 95.
what a great nite!! i was in the parking lot when i heard this....bunch of people rushed the gate and i got in for the last set,,,,ran backwards up the down escalator,,to see my neighbor...awesome nite
I was there on the floor. What a night! It rained before the show. It's like I'm back.
Wow that is a great video, this song is awesome it's the first song I heard after my daughter was born. Thank you!! :)
No matter how long, no matter when or where, no matter the lineup, I have never heard a bad version of EOTW. Never boring, never long enough.

what a wonderful day this was so perfect!!!!!
The way Bruce looks at Micky thru his drum-kit is unbelievably PRICELESS!!!! Just to cute!!!!!
Best Eyes of the 90's! An Opener to boot, so rare by the Boys, Crowd in a frenzy. Happy Heads, the world was a better place back then:)
God they are so fucking good. It kills me that I was too young to experience something like this.
I remember this show like yesterday. My friend gave me a pair of tie-dye shorts that were fresh. I wore them and by the end of the show my legs were tie-dyed too. LOL gave a whole new meaning to blue-balls.
All encompassing. All powerful. All empowering. Our souls released to dance the night away.
I only had one opportunity to see them, in 94 at RFK, I was 14, and this is how I remember them.
Una de las mejores bandas que escuche. Jerry la rompe toda, un capo total. Ojala existieran grupos como los Dead's actualmente
Thx for sharing the music today. From Patti Cornell
This was one of three songs broadcast on ABC from 6/17/91 at Giant's stadium. Ticket shows the gates opened at 5pm, show start time was at 7pm.

my favorite song in my life
Yeah I got to see them around that time. You're right. Bruce Hornsby really added to the band. I also liked when Clarence Clemens played along.
There will never be another band like the Grateful Dead!
i was at this show n it'sjust as great today
Wow, absolutely magical... if only I were born 10 or 15 years earlier so I could of seen these guys :(.
I went to one of these shows (can't remember if it was this exact one) at Giants Stadium, it was amazing.
phil leash always does an amazing job on this song!
I love what Bruce brought to that incarnation. Fun times...
On my way to Hampton, Virginia sippin' on Cuervo Gold with Alex Zeus (my dog) in our "62 ragtop VW bug were listenig to a song i think by the Eagles that said something about a ''DEAD STICKER ON A CADILLAC'' and as I looked over to a small cross road, there was a DEAD STICKER ON A CADILLAC!
