This version shows why Phil was so powerful in their sound. he is relentless the whole time. It's really hard to pull off a bass line like that. I was there, amazing day...
watching the 3 women holding hands and dancing together just makes me smile every time and almost brings a tear to my eye. its amazing what great, positive, music can do for the world.
I love this song... it gave me true hope when I was stuck in the depths of addiction... even when I was feeling the lowest, it made me feel like it'll will be OK and I will get through it,,, and I have gotten clean. It's very early in my recovery, just over 2 months, but I never thought I would even get clean! I'm only 24, but heroin addiction got me REAL quick. Stuff is garbage. That is the magic of music, to help your soul in times of despair. God Bless
There's such a streak of humanism running through the Dead's songs, perfect for making one fell sunny and cheerful. I remember when Paul McCartney said he thought most of the Beatles' songs had been about love and the good side of life, surely that was a good legacy to leave the world. The Dead are the same.
I can't get over this one performence. It's way better than any other cut of this song. It could be because they are playing for all thier friends from thier own city. The solo he plays on this one is perfect it differs every performence but the solo on this cut is my favorite.
im 22 and not a part of this terrible generation who dislikes this kind of greatness..just got my first taste of what shows would have been like back in the day when i saw furthur this past weekend at madison square garden..and all i can say is i wish i could go back and relive it
My dad is going through triple bypass surgery right now as I right this and for some reason I had to play this, always gotta keep positive in life my friends, there is always somthing good that comes outa even the worst moments in our lives.......!
Over and above the great music,Jerry carried with him wherever he went, warmth and family vibes.Qualities that are fast disappearing.Look at the crowds.
Hartford, 3-'87.. a "Touch" that is IMPOSSIBLE to describe!!! I was at the show and words cannot possibly describe the energy of that moment. Listen to a high qual. version of it. You'll see what I mean....
Saw further here in Eugene, OR. Made me really happy, but I also ached thinking how much I miss the Grateful Dead, the best ensemble of musicians I've ever seen.
I loved this song when I first heard it but it really hits home now. A touch a grey really does suit me. A tat of sorts. Peace Brother Jerry. RIP. Thank you Bobby, Mickey, Vince Phil, Bill, Donna, Ron, Keith, Brent and Jerry. You sang my life story. I ran from my roots after that day in '95. It was too painful to look back and see what the fame did to Jerry. Now I need to face that unresolved pain. I loved you then and I love you all now. And every day in between. Peace.
I was there my senior year in college at the University of San Francisco... wow... I couldn't believe the amount of people who came to the show... it was quite an experience. I remember just looking all around and trying to take it all in!!!!
We need this now in 2011. Robert and Jerry and all were Greats, and their music is skillful, fun, and inspirational to everyone who opens their ears and mind to it!! -- Ryvr
HAD THE ABSOLUTE PLEASURE OF WORKING BEHIND STAGE AS A SF. PARTY PROP CO. EMP AT THIS GREAT SHOW !!!!! LOVE YOU G D !!!! THANK YOU FOR A GREAT DAY IN MY LIFE !!!
unfortunately i am too young to encounter The Grateful Dead live, but when they show clips of the fans in these live vids i can just only imagine how excellent these shows are.
probably the closest thing they had to a hit. and yet, they still are one of the most LEGENDARY bands of all time, because of their crazy, amazing jams
I respect you for this. New generations will continue to love the Dead. Struggles are what make you, "you". Considering I am from the new generation. Seems hopeless to be anything at all. Its me, until the end.
I was able to see the dead twice and extremely fortunate and grateful. Seeing Jerry live changed my entire outlook on music. Such a wave that you could just ride and go where they took you. Thank you Jerry and the dead for opening my eyes to see the world in a different manner.
Wow, I'm so glad this video is back! My all-time favorite version of this song. The footage of Jerry is great, so nice to have this lasting tribute to him. And the crowd shots show the sheer ecstasy that only Jerry could instill in people.
what a amazing band!!! R.I.P. jerry. we will all miss you. what a sad loss. he was so amazing. almost every school project or paper i do is on him. i know like everything about him by heart. i went to the cover band concert in georgia like 1-2 weeks ago. right as i walked in the room, i got that wreaking smell of week. it was beautifull. and no one had even sparked up yet!
What a happy video. You can clearly see Jerry having fun in this one. Everyone was there to remember Bill Graham, but Bill would have wanted everybody to have a good time in the process. That was what he was all about.
I saw the Dead in NYC in 1968, never forgot them over the long years after. This clip is simply 'Pure Dead,' the Dead at their very best. They may well be seen by future historians as the one National Treasure which emerged from the 20th century. *goes back to pipe*
was there and loved this! They also played with Neil and did Forever Young - a big moment for me to see my two favorites playing together -- thanks for the memory!
Garcia-Hunter wrote some of the greatests songs of that era - they don't get enough credit as songwriters. A Touch of Grey, Ripple, New Speedway Boogey, Mason's Children, Black Peter, St. Stephan, Dark Star, Ramblin Rose, the list goes on and on and on..
I was at this concert for my 30th birthday!!! It was sooo awesome!! We had a marshmallow fight on the grassy area. lol It was so fun!! Was a VERY cool and mellow concert~I could probably still go to concerts like this because the crowds are just sooo great!!!!
Their best song. This is the best video I could find in terms of video quality. Took the other ones forever to load. This only stops a little at the start.
I'm grateful for growing-up in the 60's. When I attended UC Berkeley in 1968, The Dead would play at the Fillmore West (1 of 3 bands). Admission...$3.50 Eat your hearts out!
I went to this show on a whim after being sighted for a drunk in public.. Friend came up said, "Wanna go see the Dead." I said sure.. Such a great show.. so many bands.. The Dead most importantly, but Steele Pulse, Journey. Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young.. Robin Williams stand up, that clown from Woodstock.... Greatest free show/tribute I've ever been to, ended up following the dead for the next few years, doing VW valve jobs to pay for gas to next shows.. good times. :)
@KeepRockin55 . May God continue to bless you on this road of sobriety. Always remember you can't change the past, just keep moving forward and take one minute at a time. My Prayers go with you. There is a touch of grey in every sliver lining, but nothing you can't over come with hard work and deremination.. GOD BLESS.
right now im drunk... zipping whisky alone in my room listening to my beloved Jerry Garcia... this makes my soul feel like in heaven! thank you man!
How profound!!!😂😂😂😂 🤡
Im only 20 but I LOVE the Dead! Every morning before i do anything i have to have a dose of the Dead for my Head!!!!!
Wonderful 😂
This version shows why Phil was so powerful in their sound. he is relentless the whole time. It's really hard to pull off a bass line like that. I was there, amazing day...
RIP Bill Graham. The world will always need more promoters like you.
watching the 3 women holding hands and dancing together just makes me smile every time and almost brings a tear to my eye. its amazing what great, positive, music can do for the world.
Bill Graham an amazing human being whose love for music was a benefit to us all! I met him in the late 70's in California.
Hope you are well ❤
NA works for me...good job brother
"The ABCs we all think of,
to try to clear a little love."
-you got it, guys!
There's such a streak of humanism running through the Dead's songs, perfect for making one fell sunny and cheerful. I remember when Paul McCartney said he thought most of the Beatles' songs had been about love and the good side of life, surely that was a good legacy to leave the world. The Dead are the same.
The finest band in American history. Period.
I don't know if I've ever seen anything more beautiful. Imagine what the world would be like if everyone did this kind of thing every once in a while.
This country will never be the same without that man!!!
Jerry was the reason that I learned the play guitar. Love this song.
this song is so deep it is amazing. it sends the best message ever. always look on the bright side of things. : ) R.I.P Jerry. : (
I saw them many times in the late 60s in LA...spoke with Jerry many times...what an honor!
😂😂😂 me too...he told me some guys pants are on fire!!!
Such a ray of sunshine to see Garcia laughing and raising his hand defiantly in the air for "WE WILL get by!!!"
The father of my child EDDY COSTA turned me on to this music when I was pregnant now my son loves this music so much!!!!!! RIP EDDY COSTA
Just look at the audience. Amazing vibe. Rip Jerry :(
something about this particular preformance of this song just gets me every time
One of the greatest bands to walk the planet.
Vince is fantastic . . he takes this cheezy tune to a new level with his frills.
I can't get over this one performence. It's way better than any other cut of this song. It could be because they are playing for all thier friends from thier own city. The solo he plays on this one is perfect it differs every performence but the solo on this cut is my favorite.

This is one of the songs that makes me think 'God, I wish I'd written that...'
Only one word comes to mind when watching this video... magical.
it was their 1st commercial hit, real deadheads were happy for them, thank you .
My dad is going through triple bypass surgery right now as I right this and for some reason I had to play this, always gotta keep positive in life my friends, there is always somthing good that comes outa even the worst moments in our lives.......!

Beautiful, graceful - a wonderful testament to Jerry and his greatness - a true american icon.
god damn.. i hate not being around for the grateful dead era.. they were gods in their own way.. each one of them a visionary..
Tough to face another summer without Jerry and the Dead comin around! Furthur is on my agenda though! Jerry looks so relaxed in his music!

Phil is on point during these late-era shows.
I seen him live... one of the best expieriences of my life!

o how i wish i was alive in the 70s to see them in their good years
THE MUSIC NEVER STOPPED ! sonora band of the movie !
I have never understood why people used to like this band. To me, the last four letters of their name says it all. Thank you.
I love them regardless - commercially successful or not - always have, always will!
GREAT SONG....I LOVED IT AS A CHILD....
