Thanks for watching again this week guys, unfortunately this is the last of weekly uploads and back to fortnightly. Hopefully I can share with you soon why!
Is you want to sell the rose petals I’d be interested in them!?
Thanks for the heads up on the axel rubbers. I'm sick of scratching around for pieces of wood for the job. I'm definitely investing in 4 😀 I also saw some for my trolley jack.
Definitely the Cooper S steelies! Not only are they correct and original but in a world where pretty well every car (and even caravan) on the road has alloys, it is so refreshing to see steel wheels. Agree you have to lose the blue damper top tubes. They really don't look right.
Yeah steel wheels are certainly not common now
you will not regret putting genuine S wheels with centre caps
Love your channel mate. You’ve got a mint set up in the garage too. Especially the heaters 😂
Thanks mate! The heaters good!
Jeeeeez RUclips paying big now! Orange/ yellow McLaren!
Great video love the standard look fits it really well
😂 I owe youtube mate!
Top video from a top guy on a top car ...
Thanks mate!
Hi Alex, guess I have to agree that the steels add to the period look, whilst the rose petals just look great anyway lol! You know in your heart how you want it so...
'S looks mega clean underneath wow, great stuff 😊
Thanks mate
I like the original Cooper wheels better. They're very distinctive compared to ordinary Mini steel rims with that row of holes around the hub. I remember noticing them on Mini Coopers when I was a kid.
Definitely mate. My biggest reason is the wheels separate it from a standard mk1
Hi Alex, although the steel wheels are never very glamorous, I must admit that with the correct original S hubcaps, they really do look pretty good and very “ genuine Cooper S”. 👍🇬🇧 good to see you buddy, stay safe now!
Thanks Phil! Keep safe matey
I just subscribed. Minis have always been my favorite car. Unfortunately they are very expensive here in the United States. I settled for a Jaguar X Type instead. All wheel drive, and looks great. The Cooper S is one sharp looking Car. I like the white wheels. gives it a classic look.
Welcome Brian! Yes I have a mate in the US you certainly pay more
Here in North America, where cars have to survive 5 months in winter road salts, a very good undercoating/cavity sealing product is FluidFilm. I just had my Mini fully undercoated with it, also did sill, boot & door cavities. Loads of user videos on-line showing tests done after 1,2,3, 4 years of use compared with untreated areas. Very impressive. It's based on lanolin (yes, from sheep wool).
Thanks mate!
Rose petals on your particular colour combo do it for me. They are awesome.
They do work well
I Go original wheels Alex . Black shocks and a original Airbox with K&N Element inside then only the real purist we know its not factory spec .. But you still have the benefit of a better driving experience with more power and better suspension set up ... Just ordered the Axelstands rubbers great idea mate 👍
..The S looks amazing..
Yeah definitely mate, I think dry suspension stopped in 64
I love both. I’m really looking for a set of Rosepetals on the Traveller but that’s mainly for the cafe racer look I have going on. I have 4.5 reverse S on at the moment but also have a set of 3.5J S replicas for an option. I have a few other sets of period alloys that I’m not sure what’s going to look best. I just know I don’t want to arch the car.
I love your S and both sets of wheels will look ace.
Reverse rims are cool. Like an OEM plus
Beautiful condition, personally I would go for Minilite wheels.
Thanks mate
Did all Cooper S have an oil cooler? I'm sure the ones with have the different panel strengthener on the front panel painted black. Not criticising just mentioning in case you didn't know. Love the car
Use the S wheels with your A032 tyres it will look great.
I did notice your front rebound buffer is missing it goes under the lower arm minispares part no 2A4267MS
Thanks mate, it's on my list of parts
I love the rose petals but I get your point about originality
Definitely the main factor in my decision mate
What a lovely motor. S Wheels for me.
Thanks mate, and good choice
My bad, missed this. Lovely car and just don't want you to be mislead.
My 64 Morris Cooper S 1071 listed 4.5 wheels on the Heritage certificate but when I acquired it has 3.5 so I sold them and bought 8 4.5's. Blockly are a good option and Yokohama have a new version as well
I know about Blockly but what's the yokohama option mate
I like the look of the rose petals makes it look sportier but get the originals ones powder coated for shows and swap em over
I have been thinking that mate
I like the standard s wheels but they both look great
I know! It's a tough one
That car looks so beautiful underneath. How could you even consider taking it out on the open road! I would cry if you took it out in the rain. My Mini's never ever had a chance to look like that!
It will hit the road mate but only on dry days!
Although I do like the rose petals, I'd put the standard wheels on this. I think they look great and it makes sense given that you're going to so much effort to keep the rest of the car looking standard.
Those axle stand pads look useful; I've just slipped pieces of bicycle inner tube over the tops of my stands to stop them scratching.
Thanks Andy
I use some on my Morris Minor, I believe they are originally manufactured as Ice Hockey Pucks just get a set of 4 or 6 off ebay and groove them if required. I found it useful to have one for the Trolley Jack too. I think the small ones are Junior ones. I have a larger one for the Trolley Jack.
Hey Alex, Love the content.
Could you answer me a question please. What are the dimensions of your garage LxWxH.
5x6m mate
Hi Toon, I've always said in the past its got to be Original, but I'm mixed up with the wheels I like the look of the Rose Petals .I'm glad I've not got the casting vote LOL.
😂 It's such a tough call
Alex, those spacers come with the rose petals, depending on the fitment, and possibly race series people are in depends on if they need the spacers or not, also, when refitting, there are cutouts on one side for the 'sleeve nut' to go into.......
I say this just in case you're not aware......
Thanks mate, I did wonder why they had spacers
Also, you should have, or may not, another set of sleeve nuts for the rose petals that are slightly shorter, for use when you don't fit the spacers......
Keep both sets of wheels 😃. That’s just so mint I can well understand why you are so obsessive about it.
Thanks mate, yes I am very obsessed with the underside 😂
i love watching you passion with "Mr Beans" cars...............
😂 I get to excited with minis
Originals are nice but the Rose Petal wheels are better in my opinion 🤷 having both is best 👌👍
Thanks Carl. Yeah the rose petals are certainly a nice wheel i just feel the S wheels will give the car the look it needs
@@classicminidetails8887 With the line of perfection you are going down, it will for sure great to see 👌
the period set of Dunlop alloys would be the best
I wanted d1 alloys, but the offset means that ideally you need arch extensions, which I didn't want, so I ended up with rose petals.....
Those are a nice wheel too!
I think it depends on the car and what youre looking for, It seems like youre wanting to make this car look as "factory" as possible so i would go for the genuine s wheels.
i have rose petals on my 970 and it suits the car but i also had them on my tweed grey s and they just didnt look right.
It's a tough one because I absolutely love the rose petals but the S wheels and what separates it from looking like standard mk1
@@classicminidetails8887 you can do what my dad did before restoring the 970, if you're not planning on selling them keep them as a spare set and you can switch between them whenever you like
Rose Petals all day long. The black complements the roof much better.
They certainly do match well
also your missimg the small seam seal cover strip at the rwar arch to boot also 4 rubber inner arch buffers are missing at bottom
Yeah I am thinking about leaving it off mate as its just a water trap. What rubber bits are those mate
@@classicminidetails8887 I can send you 4
Hi Alex, loving the videos and your cars! Quick question, do you use a trickle charger or something to keep your batteries from going flat whilst not in use, or do you just disconnect the battrery terminals?!
Usually disconnect them mate although I am considering trickle chargers
@@classicminidetails8887 Right ok, thanks a lot! Keep up the great work mate!
Worth more money with the standard cooper S wheels Keep it genuine. but at the
End day it’s up to you it’s your mini go for what you want
The underside looks great. DOnt know if you have experience of stainless on your other minis? If you buy a stainless steel exhaust, worth a bit of investigation - stainless metal is inherently more noisy than mild steel, so tends to make an engine sound more 'tinny' in my experience. I went back to a standard mild steel exhaust on my MPI and it sounds much better inside.
Thanks mate that's good to know! It's loud enough already
going from memory the car was glacier white and the wheels old english white which was more cream... I would put S reverse rims if it was me... go with your gut mate
Thanks Tony, hopefully it will work!
doesn't really matter what wheels you put on either would look great
have you driven it yet...??
Alex are those pop rivets or small sheet metal screws at the end of the chrome strips on your Cooper S?
Rivets mate
As much as i love the Rose Petals the genuine S steels would looks superb, especially with 165 tires.
Definitely mate that's my thought
Original wheels for sure mate.where did you get your number plates
Classic plates online mate 👍
S steel wheels and small hub caps! Converting a Mini from Hydro to dry is a real pig, decades ago I asked Mini Spares what was involved, there was much more than they said!
Yeah its not easy
She is clean under there. Are the rubbers missing from the battery box?
Yes mate, I have some grommets to put in
I'd be going for the S wheels with the correct hubcaps, it'll give it a standard look and hide the potential of the engine whereas the rose petals hint it might not be standard. Do agree with you about the in your face colours of the shocks.
Yeah those shocks don't sit right with me. Only thing putting me off is taking the two tanks out 🙄
@@classicminidetails8887 I hadn't thought about the fact that it has two tanks, does make the job awkward, especially on your own while lockdown is on. I'd wait til the rules are relaxed and call in a favour or two lol
@@graemew7001 it's just getting them in and out without scratching anything that puts me off 😂
@@classicminidetails8887 I totally get your anxiety about that on a car as excellent and valuable as that one.....I found some new paint chips on my car the other week and that thing only cost me £1100, still gutted though.
@@graemew7001 the back end is absolutely perfect and doesn't have a mark on it and I would be gutting to scratch it doing so
Definately better on the S rims 👍 still think the car would look better in my garage mate.
😂
Standards, definitely. Or maybe pressed steel deep dish?
I did consider reverse rims at one point
Im actually after a set of rose petals down here in Australia to replace the standard lp883 rims i have. Send them my way mate...😁
Keep your lp883s too!
@@classicminidetails8887 i was thinking exactly that as you can see from my profile pic it looks great with them but I do love rose petals
The rose petals are a great looking wheel. I am definitely keeping both sets
Hiya mate,
Personally I would go with the ORIGINAL WHEELS. To me this keeps the look of the car "original". Either would be great though 👍.
Also, would you let me know the name of the axle stand pads.
Keep up the "great" work.
Cheers
Axle stands are from machine mart
Steel wheels make a mini look more 'classic' and 'pure' indeed. Less sporty but absolutely not 'cheap'.
Cooper S for me chap
Mate, You should invest in acordless impact gun to take wheel nuts off. You should bond the pads with epoxy glue to the top of the axle stands. Car is great underneath. A creeper board would be easier for you to get underneath the cars, Check out Lanoguard Lanolin Moto Spray. Lubricant Rust inhibitor on Ebay Take Care and Stay Safe. Big G
Certainly want to invest in a buzz gun!
I like both but my vote is for original S wheels
Good man!
Much more authentic with standard S wheels and chrome caps, if I wasn't concerned about trying to keep it as original as possible the rose petals would look better.
Thanks David
First refusals on the Rose petals?
Get out.
I can 100% recommend Dynax.
Thanks mate I have only heard great things
Whats the energy usage of the heater? Dose it costing a fortune?
I don't look at the meter mate for. Obvious reasons 😂
@@classicminidetails8887 🤣🤣🤣
My friend Jack 🙄 but its OK you are a dad now, you are allowed to make dad jokes 😂. My thoughts on the wheels? Both. Rose petals for driving and mucking about and steels for shows when you want it to look original
Good shout
Will these go up in value in the future?
Without question mate
Spin them exhaust clamps alex so u dont see the nuts n thread.. 1 of my biggest hates when i see them fitted like that at shows or following a mini in convoy lol
Will look into that mate thanks!
@@classicminidetails8887 if your o.c.d's anything like mine itll bring instant pleasure when u spin them so threads up n outta sight 😁
Personally I’d stick with Rose Petals, maybe being slightly bias with having them on my Mini
😂
the standar cooper s only go shows. keep the rose pedals. otherwise Ship them to Rhodes Greece
😂
In the first couple shots I thought you actually had a real mclaren in your garage 😂😂

standard S wheels for me

Cooper s wheels for me toon
Good lad 😉
Hi , if you can find a set of original 3.5 inch S wheels , not the reproduction the car would look great.
I guess you’re rose petals are from Minispares.com London if so Mk1performance do sell a centre cap to finish finish the rose petals to make them look more correct.
I have a set of lp883 4.5j ones ready to refurbish
Definitely fit the standard wheels with their hubcaps, everything else is original. Don't keep the spacers on, we never fitted any on the works cars and BMC never recommended spacers because of the extra strain they put on the hub bearings. S drums already have built in spacers as you mentioned and S front hubs with their needle roller bearings are wider than the standard Minis. What a shame that it hasn't got the correct hydroelastic suspension still fitted, it would be quite a rare car if it had as most have been converted to dry, like yours. Why not just paint the shockers black?
I have everything I need to convert it back but I prefer the cones mate. They handle so much better like that
@@classicminidetails8887 Good, the handling question is debatable. Have you ever driven a Cooper S with completion hydroelastic suspension like the Monty winners. Their handling is pretty good,
Personally i like the rosepetals
Hi Cooper S wheels
Thanks David
Tbh I much prefer the original 's' wheels 👍
Good choice
Hi Alex. I see the film critics are watching ! Well , you're not really going to like my comments but you know l only make comments to help not hinder . Someone has already pointed out the small finisher missing behind the rear chrome finisher. If you use a modern seam sealer to fit it , you won't need clips and it will stop water seeping between the joints. I think the "missing" grommets another person noticed are at each end of the sill and the holes were used on the production line for transporting . Don't forget l mentioned Blockley tyres for authenticity, not original but very close in pattern to the Goodyear of the time . Why not take the rear shock ' off and paint it black ? You've already mentioned the radius arm covers . The "pop" rivet shoulders holding the chrome finisher should be on the underside . ( Believe me , they are a sod to fit properly !) Technically the front tie bar is incorrect but you know that . But this is the "nasty" bit . The arches should not be over painted anti-chip , they should be just painted. I may be wrong but the underfloor doesn't appear to be anti-chipped but that may be the camera angle . It's your car Alex but l know what you're like ! And you know what l'm like ! Sorry mate.
Thanks mate, the hole underneath has been stone chipped and painted over mate. Surely the inner arches will be better protected with stone chip on them
@@classicminidetails8887 Absolutely but" IF" you entered a concours and someone had prepared theirs to the same exacting standards as you but their car wsn't anti chipped who do you think would win ? But l completely agree that for protection purposes yours is ideal . Tank care and stay safe.
S steels for me
Good choice 😉
Standard Cooper wheels
Good choice!
Most definitely S rims!!!
Be well 🙏
PS nasty looking blue shock's under those arches:(
Yeah the shocks will. Probably change soon!
Holy crap £7.29 they are Hockey pucks £2 in sports direct 😬

Be very careful substituting stainless bolts for high tensile steel on suspension components bud. A2 stainless or similar is much more susceptible to brittle fracture that HT steel. I'd just get a little brush and paint the heads of the existing ones black if I were you.
Thanks mate I never knew that!
Rose petals all day long.
They certainly look well.
Rosepetals. Sets it off against the car

Original S wheels are way better.
Sorry mate but those steel wheels are not Cooper S wheels. Sourcing Genuine S wheels can be a challenge also you need to know if 3.5: or optional 4" wheels were fitted from the factory. They do offer reproductions from Mini Spares but are not recommended by some purist.
The one with the tyre on isn't. The one I tested on the front is. I did a whole video on the wheels when I bought them
What an asinine comment. They absolutely are genuine cooper S. They're stamped LP883 and therefore 4.5J, the optional extra wheels the Cooper S came with.
