The first time I did one, the video I watched didn’t mention this. Took me a week to figure out why my finished mount kept making my room smell like death lmao
i used barnwood for mine. and, collected some dried wheat grass and other stuff from where i had shot the deer, and added those to the mount as well. and centered below the head, on the wood, is the shell casing, with the mushroomed bullet that i recovered from the deer, sitting atop it.
Used this method this past weekend. Followed it pretty much exactly except for the super glue... I’ve had several people ask if I would consider doing a mount for them. Thanks for taking the time to provide a step by step video any novice could follow... following you video produced a trophy I’ll be proud to display for many years to come!
I've done many skull mounts for myself and a couple for my nephews. This method is spot on I over cooked a couple when I was just learning how to do it properly and yes the bones will get extremely brittle if you boil it too long and too fast. I really like your cheap plaque idea by burning the wood I Like that look. I just killed a decent 7 pt. 2 days ago and I'm going to use this info. Thanks for sharing.
Good job I have usused a pressure washer, and covered myself with brains and whatnot. After the skull dries good I take it to the bench wire wheel. And with a soft wire wheel I polish the teeth, and a person can lightly wire wheel the head. Thanks for the tips I learnt from you
A “generous amount” is a southern Appalachian quantity 😄! I did one a couple years ago and then hit it with white spray paint, optional since I didn’t have borax. Great video!
Thanks for sharing your procedure for a European mount. I too use borax and Dawn in my boiling step but then we differ a touch in that I will hit it with a pressure washer. The pressure washer really takes care of the soft tissues and save quite a bit of time. I also pop off the ear bones with a small screwdriver. When ready for the bleaching step I wrap the skull with a layer of paper towel and use regular strength peroxide.
Man I found a head a cpl yrs ago mushroom hunting right on the other side of our creek and wanted to get a plack for it but for the life of me couldn't find one anywhere! So this was very insightful thank you very much I'll now be goin to hobby lobby soon to find my PC of wood for the head lol!
Thanks for showing in depth how you mount it on the plaque. That is the part that always gets neglected. I have my buck from last year all ready to go but didn't really know how to attach him to a mount. Need a video on pig skulls, with jaw bone attached. Lol
After cooking, a pressure washer cleans it up nice. Also a drill with a wood paddle bit mixes the brains up good before cooking. Break the ear bones out to get alot of hard to reach meat out.
Great video catman....try using a 3/16 toggle bolt for mounting your skull to the board you can put it in the hole where the brains are saves you from trying to drill in the skull ...just a little trick a old timer showed me 👍
Hey bud; great video; thank you. Followed your instructions and did my first European Mount of a 5X5 Bull Elk I killed a month ago in Wyoming; came out great! Hope YOU stuck a big one this year!
That dead head is one of the coolest racks I've seen. Can't believe that came out of davidson. I bet you had a heartattack when you run up on that thing.
Good job in the short time you did the mount. I use 40 Volume Peroxide liquid with Whiten Flakes mix to a paste thicker than your’s. I like your plastic wrap technique. I usually just let my dry for 24 hours. One thing to tell your views is to make sure you rinse the 40 Volume Peroxide mixture off really good. I also paint on some mop and glo to the skull to give it a little shine.
Good job, only things I do differently is I remove the lower jaw prior to boiling, easily done by making the cuts you did to remove the lower mouth and tongue and opening the jaw up fully comes right out, I don’t fool with removing the eyes, and I only boil 30mins-1 hour the first go. The pressure wash, the eyes come right out. The brain, I use for seps or needle nose plyers stick in hole open, get ahold of brain membrane and twist 3/4 times, it all usually pulls right out in one go. I also remove the earbuds and nasal cavities at this point. Ear buds with a flat head screwdriver, inserted into ear hole with a little pressure they pop right out, then take a drill with a 1/2-3/4 paddle but and drill that hole open more. Use the same for seps or needles noses and get ahold of nasal cartilage pulls right out in a couple try’s. Pressure wash. Ever hole, even the smallest. Then reinsert to boil another 30 mins. Pressure wash every hole, every orfice. And I use borax, laundry pod, salt, and dawn. In all boils. Except for the whitening boil just whiting product and water. The salt acts as a tenderizer the rest are degreasers and cleaners. Nose bone came off due to over boiling. 1st boil- 30mins to hour- 2’d boil 30m- hour- the whitening Boil just bring to boil and kill heat, haven’t lost a nose bone yet. Use same product you do, with 50volume whitening agent and I put one gallon of it into same pot, n fill rest way with water to over top of skull, bring to boil and kill heat, let set 20/30 mins take out and allow to dry. Then when dry I use mop n glow to seal it all, n give the antlers and skull a matte shin look. Plus it gives it a fresh smell.
I use elmers school glue to glue the bones together when i get to the drying stage, and i use regular hydrogen peroxide mixed 50/50 with water for the bleach/whitening, i usually let the skull soak for 24 hours though. I enjoy your videos very much, thanks for sharing them.
I pretty much follow the same routine, except I use a power washer. You have to be careful, but it saves you a bunch of time. That creme peroxide works wonders as well
I watched this video early this morning before I went out hunting... I shot my first buck ever, 30 minutes after first light . I guess your video brought good luck
Hey brother if you take a screw driver and shove it in the ear canal you can pop that bone out and it makes cleaning that area much easier and you don't see it on the wall.
Good video man 👍. I think I’ll stick with the beetle tank if I can afford to send it out there. I do plan on buying the stuff to try your method. Thanks for the demo
You are basically doing it the way we do in Europe but the mounting is different. We cut that skull in the angle we want it on the wall and you save your self a lot of time with cleaning the bottom and you get the whole sinus/nose section clean. Got my self a cheap an weak powerwasher so it dont damage anything. Other than that you did good.
The first 3 I did I broke the nose off of. Thats probably my biggest advice to anyone doing it for the first time, be super careful with the tip of the nose.
Looking for a match set of sheds. Can you tell me where the best place is to look to find an inexpensive set. Don't have to be a big trophy. just a nice looking set. Maybe you might have a nice looking set that you might want to part with. I live in Denton Tx.
Great video. Question hopefully you can shed some light - I buried my skull for about 8 months to clean it. Worked great but now I can’t seem to get the smell of earth from it. Any suggestions? Want I get the smell out before hanging it. Thx
Before you get ready to put it on the plaque you can saw the back side of the skull flat. Then fill what’s left of the brain cavity with bonds and place a quarter inch bolt in it while the bindi is wet. Then place it through the hole in your board put a washer and nut on it and tighten it down enough to recess in the wood. It gives a clean flush mount to your plaque.
Best solo filming hunting chanel
I saved this video on my phone three years ago. This is the third year I've used it to clean my skull. Thanks, Catman!
Don't forget to pop out the ear bones! It makes getting out a lot of that hard to scrape meat a lot easier.
The first time I did one, the video I watched didn’t mention this. Took me a week to figure out why my finished mount kept making my room smell like death lmao
Thanks for full walk-through on this Catman. You’ve got a ton of knowledge, and share it like a pro!
"always cut away from you"
*makes first cut right towards thumb*
lol we all do it no matter how much it is put in our heads. Awesome video man!
Zach Bowyer guilty as charged 😂
Just good advice for the younger viewers
Beat me too it!
Thats the do as i say, not what i do saying lol
Never change Catman. Best outdoor channel most people can relate to. Just tagged out myself here in indiana.
Best european mount video I have seen, you did it right.
One tip, go to a car wash to blast out that inside matter.
Damb im 13 min in and i can already tell a tremendous difference! That is REALLY NICE WORK MY GOOD MAN! WHAT A BEAUTY😯👏
i used barnwood for mine. and, collected some dried wheat grass and other stuff from where i had shot the deer, and added those to the mount as well. and centered below the head, on the wood, is the shell casing, with the mushroomed bullet that i recovered from the deer, sitting atop it.
You are a master of your craft, bro!! I don't mean skull mounts, either. Your life, is your craft, and you seem to have it mastered, my man.
Used this method this past weekend. Followed it pretty much exactly except for the super glue... I’ve had several people ask if I would consider doing a mount for them. Thanks for taking the time to provide a step by step video any novice could follow...

How long do you boil for now?
Good job I have usused a pressure washer, and covered myself with brains and whatnot. After the skull dries good I take it to the bench wire wheel. And with a soft wire wheel I polish the teeth, and a person can lightly wire wheel the head. Thanks for the tips I learnt from you

Spade bit is a great idea!
Yep, pressure washer set on lower psi setting works really well, those cheaper electric one's are perfect!
Great to see a fellow mid tn outdoorsman on the hunting side of RUclips
nice frames with all those antlers in the back. Low key flex lol . great vid
Great video man can’t Waite for your next video to come can’t Waite to do a mount like that have a lot in the house hung up
I find making mounts is actually fun. I made a Texas mount for my dad and hydro dipped it. Honestly had a great time doing it.
Great video catman....try using a 3/16 toggle bolt for mounting your skull to the board you can put it in the hole where the brains are saves you from trying to drill in the skull ...just a little trick a old timer showed me 👍
That’s a great idea! Thanks
I like this idea. Although I had to look up what a toggle bolt was. Smh.
That’s your bow buck from a few days ago. He still looks good. Stay safe and good hunting god bless the Catman
I had to make sure I whether I was hearing your chickens or mine... 🤣
That's what I did too LOL😂
Good job Catman. I've got everything I need except the head, the borax, the bleach, and the time. But now I know how to do it.
nice job; i like the scorched plaque ... def recommend you pop those ear “buds” out - easy to do with a phillips screwdriver after your 1st boil
Hey bud; great video; thank you. Followed your instructions and did my first European Mount of a 5X5 Bull Elk I killed a month ago in Wyoming; came out great! Hope YOU stuck a big one this year!
Great video Catman, nice buck and great job with the mount. Keep up your super content.
That dead head is one of the coolest racks I've seen. Can't believe that came out of davidson. I bet you had a heartattack when you run up on that thing.
Thanks Catman, I borrowed some ideas from you. My mount came out great.
Damn yote sound close. Do you hunt them. I'd be like hold on I gotta go get my AR.
What I was thinking
I would have grabbed one too ahahah
I pause the video cause I thought they were in my yard howling lol 😂
Didn’t miss a beat !! Great work
Great video Catman 👍. Always learn something when I watch your channel.
Good Job on the European mount I do them myself you did a good job.
Good job in the short time you did the mount.

I like how you used your grid heater as a spacer to drill your hole! Thanks for the tutorial, hopefully I can put it to use this year
I was wondering if someone would notice lol
I also have a first gen so it was way for me. Hope she’s running good for you!
Shannon Farnan transmission blew in September, got a replacement but mechanic has been backed up so I haven’t got it fixed yet.
Hate to hear that. Unfortunately it’s always something with these things. Im about to reword my fusible links. Hope you get her on the road soon
Another method to de-meat a skull is to find an ant bed and place it on the ant bed, the ants will clean the skull down to bone in just a few days.
I haven’t had good luck with the dirt/ant method. Discolored and weakened the bone. And it took forever.
I need that harpeth river sign hangin on the wall lol good smallie fishing round here

Thanks. FYI, the regular brown bottle is 3% hydrogen peroxide. 40 volume is 12% so it works faster.
Nice job. I got a chuckle out of the Unknown Hinson poster too. Lol.
Great video. Man that one you found is insane!! What a buck!
NICE ! Thanks for sharing, Have a Blessed season
I pretty much follow the same routine, except I use a power washer. You have to be careful, but it saves you a bunch of time. That creme peroxide works wonders as well
Chickens can't wait till the next one!
You earned a sub. Great down to earth tutorial. Really digging your squirrel hunt from the canoe as well.
That is a really cool unique buck
Great job bro. You make it seem simple and natural. Where are you located, if you don't mind me asking.
Great way to DIY. That turned out awesome! Thanks for sharing.
Great video. Thanks for taking the time to post this.
A tip is to stick a screw driver into the ear holes and pry it up. You’ll remove all the bones around the ear and get the skull way cleaner
That's a neat set of horns.
Great job on explaining all that Catman & nice buck.
If available, Dermestid beetles are a great option for this process.
You are something else man,so glad came across your channel!...if u ever need a camera man just hit me up! Im in North Alabama.
Ur such a nice guy man. I enjoy watching ur videos
Awesome job Johnathan have you ever tanned your own hide
I seen this video when you uploaded it. And a on November 2 I shot a nice 8 point so I'm doing my first Euro mount thanks Catman
Can you do a vid on ur turkey and deer mounts and maybe even some nice sheds you’ve found in the past. I would love to see somethin like that.
I watched this video early this morning before I went out hunting... I shot my first buck ever, 30 minutes after first light . I guess your video brought good luck
Congrats on your first buck. I got me a decent 8-pointer barely 30 minutes after first light last Saturday myself.
Excellent video. Much more informative than any of the others I have watched. 5 🌟
Seems like this is missing something.... hmmm...... ahh yes. A few brewskies throughout the process !
Looks good man!
Hey brother if you take a screw driver and shove it in the ear canal you can pop that bone out and it makes cleaning that area much easier and you don't see it on the wall.
Looks awesome
Nice work , great job very good direction . I’m in TN also waiting for the 21st for rifle have a couple of shooters I’ve been seeing .
its good to see some how to instructional content keep keeping it real Catman 🏹🦌👍
Good video man 👍. I think I’ll stick with the beetle tank if I can afford to send it out there. I do plan on buying the stuff to try your method. Thanks for the demo
Like how the borax doesn't bleach the antler bases like oxy clean 👍
Well done - now if I can get one in front of me this week!
Thanks buddy I’m a 13 year old kid I shot a big rack 8 pointer this year hope the luck to all of the hunters amen
Hey man I use a dremel with forward facing wire brush to clean the tough spots.and needle nose in the nose
Great video. Thanks for the content Catman. I’ll try this on the 8pt I tagged today in Arkansas.
Excellent How To! Thank you for sharing!
Very cool. An alternative to hair bleach is using Oxy Clean as a paste. If you put the skull under a black light it will help oxidize it quicker.
Have you ever considered using a Dremel tool to grind a flat where you want your mounting screw to start so your bit does not wander.
The first 3 I did I broke the nose off of. Thats probably my biggest advice to anyone doing it for the first time, be super careful with the tip of the nose.
This is awesome information. Very well done!
Awesome video, thank you for taking the time to do that, very informative 👍
You come a long way pilgram
Man if you had a power washer it woulda saved you so much time! Nice video 👏🤙
Wow great video and awesome teacher.
Looks awesome keep up the good work.
Looking for a match set of sheds. Can you tell me where the best place is to look to find an inexpensive set. Don't have to be a big trophy. just a nice looking set. Maybe you might have a nice looking set that you might want to part with. I live in Denton Tx.
Thanks Catman always enjoy.
Hell of a good job love your videos
Try using needle nose pliers to get the nose stuff pt
I always trash bag the antler and tape the bases to avoid rubbing the color off.
Great video.
Question hopefully you can shed some light - I buried my skull for about 8 months to clean it. Worked great but now I can’t seem to get the smell of earth from it. Any suggestions? Want I get the smell out before hanging it.
Thx
A quick trick for drying is to have a tub with salt in it and set the head in the salt. It will speed up drying and help preserve it.
Sounds like coyote thinning is in order 😊
I add oxyclean to the boiling water also, it helps.... yours came out great!
How much do you add per gallon
If doing a bunch of heads how often do you change water. Do you add more oxiclean as you go?
Awesome video, going to save this one.
Awesome video catman 👍👍👍
Before you get ready to put it on the plaque you can saw the back side of the skull flat. Then place it through the hole in your board put a washer and nut on it and tighten it down enough to recess in the wood. It gives a clean flush mount to your plaque.
Awesome video do you have any shoulder mounts?
Great video , slot of good info. Thanks for sharing.
Awesome video as always man! 👍
What's the best way to clean the nose out? I always have a problem clean the nose out.
Did you keep and eat the tongue?
good video, i do mine the same way except i'll use the pressure washer instead of a hose.
