Young man, I am so glad that I found your channel. I’ve been hunting 51 years and I learn something new every time I watch one of your videos. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. God Bless, Billy

Little tip. Add some water at the very beginning. Will start melting faster prevent burning and it'll quickly boil out before it gets to hot. 👍
My friend and I used to do this back in the 90s. Except, we used to get the fat by jumping the fence at deer liposuction clinics and rummaging through the dumpster. We even sold a few bars to overweight, rich women.
The kidney fat can be rendered down to make suet. Can use that to make pemmican. Also I would use pine or cedar oil to make a dedicated hunting soap.
A man of many talents. Nice walk-through Catman!
Take a couple pieces of 1x lumber, put a door hinge on one end and squeeze the cracklings out while they are still in the cheesecloth. Might get a little more than with your hands.
If I run into a guy in the woods that is sparkling clean and smells beautiful, I’ll know it’s you. Ha!
Super interesting. I’ve made soap but never considered using deer fat. I’ll probably try it now
Made over 600 bars 5 years ago. Between deer tallow and other fats. Sold some give some away. Havent bought a bar since than or saved fats to make tallow for soap. Also used bramble berry xharts
What an excellent , informative film! Thank you from the UK!
I enjoyed watching your soap making, for it reminded me of my childhood working with my grandparents and old country neighbors and rendering hog fat to make soap and cracklings. Back then, we heated the fat in those old huge cast iron cauldrons sitting over a wood fire and usually, during the late fall and early winter. Back in those poor days in the rural South, we wasted nothing. Keep the old traditions alive and pass them on, for some day, all these easy luxuries we enjoy now will come to an end.
Great video. Very well made and informative. Thank you
That's fantastic , I never thought about making soap from the fat . Great job !
Great video. I really enjoyed it and you explained it very clearly.
Definitely glad u posted this. Going to have to start doing this
Great video!!! Thanks for sharing. Had no idea how soap was made.
Cat man shows his rizz to get the snizz
Man I’ve been saving all my deer fat for this specific reason. I have rendered down 20lb of tallow and getting ready to do the same. I also made chapstick and moisturizing lotion and both work great. I didn’t remember the recipe I used last year (1st year) and was going to look something up but you made it was easier. Great in depth diy video. Thank you.
Most informative deer hunting video I've seen since I've been watching deer hunting videos. Thank you Catman. Awesone!! I'm going to do this.
pretty cool stuff. never cease to amaze.
I'll be trying that next season for sure thank you
Nice Video & explained better than most all soap making videos I've seen lately 😉 Thanks for sharing & Nice Buck also
Looking forward to your candle craft video now
Thanks for Keeping us in the know.
Good lesson, Catman. I know they used to make lye soap at the farm, but that was before my time and I've never seen it done. When used, the tallow off my deer generally just becomes patch lube or bird feed.
Thanks for the video my friend I will try this out
You have been hanging out with them Yoder's.
Learning their ways.
Thank you . I am going to try this next fall .
Never thought of this. I enjoyed this and very educational
That’s awesome. Keep it coming
Great job!
Thank you for sharing your knowledge!
That was an awesome video Catman!! Almost as good as your night crawler catch video on your main channel!! Thanks for teaching me something!
Awesome video, and great use of wild game! Healthier than anything you could buy at the store I bet!
Looks aweeome great job
I just found your channel, and I'm super happy I did. I subscribed and now I'm on my way to watch your other videos.
Thanks for sharing that video..pretty damn cool. Thanks Brother ! Make sure you have everything winterized for next week !
Great video Catman! The way the World is going you need to know every way possible to live. Thanks!
Awesome job young man. 👏 👍😊
Excellent video!!! Thank you so much.
Blessed❤️🔥 good stuff!!!
Awesome idea
That’s pretty slick!!
Good Stuff. Thanks
That was great making soap with your own deer ..Good to see hunters using more then just the meat. I save the fat for the birds to feed them in winter, but also save the skins, hair, some bones, sinew, brains etc..
You need some catman logo molds.😉
Enjoyed it! Neatest thing I've seen in awhile actually
Interesting, nice job 👍
Great video!
You can also use a plane paper plate to skim off the foam off the top of the fat
fantastic !
Good video
May be more important than one might think in days to come
That's a cool idea! Great for content especially for hunters. I'm gonna give it a try next fatty deer. Usually they get fat latter in the season. And you only used half of your tallow.
Pretty interesting never heard of it before. You need to get you a deer buck impression to push into the soap that would look pretty kool !
Very cool video. We'll documented.
Catman!!! So glad found your channel! Also! This summer we need more River Catfishing Videos! Godbless.
Awesome video and if anything I put all the fat for my bird feeders
I have a quart of lard from a wild pig I have been thinking about doing this.
I think you were born about a century too late!!LOL!! Very resourceful!
There are glands on the"knee"? of both hindquarters too. About the size of a great Northern bean. It's grayish brown.
That’s interesting!
Cool stuff
Cool video
Damn Cat that’s great
You can buy earth sent that makes a good soap for hunting
Crock pot works great to render fat.
Wow our deer in Virginia never have nearly half the fat this buck did!
I've never heard of anyone making soap from deer fat very interesting.
I cant find the link to the calculator..great video!
Hey bro if ya want a fourtrex trolling motor let me know. I’m here in Nashville
Good job! Now make some with camo color spiraling, add acorn or fresh earth scent and have your own catman logo molds made. Ill buy them and sell them for you.
Great video. Thanks for that. Too much fat is just discarded these days.
At least you didnt eat the liver with fava beans. 😂
What’s the shelf life?
Great job sir, found a new business opportunity for me. Perfect timing too I’ve been home laid out with a fractured spine. Supplemental income for a hobby that I love.
How many of those bars were you able to make from the amount of fat that you rendered from 1 deer?
Half of that block of fat made over 12 bars, I still have the other half left over
How does this soap do with sensitive skin, tried some with goat milk one time, but don’t know if it had lye in it
With true soap, lye is used to suponifi the amino fatty acids in fat/oils changing them into soap.
catman can i do this with pig fat? we butchered our hogs and saved the fat
Yes pig fat will work, but I’d use it for sausage too
@@catmanDIYoutdoors good idea, I got about 50 lbs
So how is the lye not harmful to our skin if it’s so corrosive?
Because all of the lye reacts with the fat to become soap. There’s no lye left when it’s done
@@catmanDIYoutdoors got ya! Thanks for the information, I’m gonna add this to my list of stuff to try

Tons of fat on that joker. Even my corn fed deer in GA don’t have a lot of fat
Please always wear eye protection. Nothing worth doing is worth losing your vision.
I’m curious how this smells in six months? Typically dear fat
turns rancid.
Any fat will turn rancid, until it is rendered and turned into soap. It no longer is fat, as such
Hate to disagree but deer fat does taste funny maybe not bad to you but if you grind deer fat in deer meat it will taste funny kinda musky like but it may be ok for soap but do not use the fat in your meat it’s nasty tasting
Take a couple pieces of 1x lumber, put a door hinge on one end and squeeze the cracklings out while they are still in the cheesecloth. Might get a little more than with your hands.
