Another unexpected thing that happened this week was Falcon 3 was released by UVI and they made it free to existing users they never did this before it was a paid upgrade.
Yes, modeling mics are worth it. I have the original sphere. I have no way of knowing how close they are to the original. The most important factor for me is that I have choices, different flavors I can explore without setting up a bunch of mics.
A side-by-side comparison of the mastering tools is a great idea. Please do it 😍🙏

I‘ve got the Solo Edge Modeling MIC by Antelope. Nice peace of gear. Concerning mastering I use Cloud Bounce which cost me around € 100 and I‘m sure it‘s as good as LANDR. It’s doing its job better than I could do it, moreover I couldn’t afford a professional mastering engineer and it’s not necessary for the music I make as an amateur musician! Kind regards says Gad!

Not a vocalist or acoustic instrumentalist, so I've got no horse in the modeling vs real-deal race, but just from an aesthetics POV, those mics look a bit...cheap...to me. As always, YMMV.

I’m not convinced by the real need for the mic modelling. It’s awesome, and nice to have, but It’s not something I can imagine I myself using that often. Generally I believe that the mix is one of the later touch in the vocal process. And actually the way you mix it makes infinitely more difference, as well as where the singer is in relation to the mic (not considered anywhere near enough imo)
I mean, I’m mixing for someone right now and he’s using a $12 USB mic. Sounds pretty bad however after mixing (which required more than normal yes) doesn’t sound horrible, it sounds good enough.
So I’d say if you have a good enough mic, you don’t have to focus on a mic modelling microphone as your main choice because it’s better to learn to process the vocals to sound how you’d like.
That’s my take.
Though I do think it’s something interesting that, if you’ve got access to, could be useful prior to mixing just to see which one you prefer most.
I’m loving my Sphere! No way I can afford the Lewitt or the U87 and the Sphere gets me 90% there! Well worth the money!
@Sanjay C is there a demo of the mic modeling software? Will I ever be able to use a non UAD mic I already own with this new software?

Would you consider doing a video reviewing the SCI for VO and non-music purposes such as podcasting. I need to know if the mic without modeling is worth the price. Or is it more of a $200 mic with modeling to make up the difference. If not a review, could you just share your opinion here. Thanks.

I'm not even yet convinced about different real mics, let alone mic modelers.. i know they sound different but i really can't tell which is better or worse.. i did try the IK Multimedia's mic modeler plugin and i couldn't even hear the difference between the mics.. I'm sure if i tried real mics i would hear the difference but i wouldn't know what to look for in a better mic..
I am on the not so interested side when it comes to mic modeling plugins and mic's, i feel you do not need 10 microphones for great recordings all you need 2-3 good mics and you are great to go for a long long time.

Reaper 7 is also out! I've tried many DAW's and it is by far the best (I know, it can't be good if it's basically free right?)
Reaper is advanced in mixing! I don' know about sample manipulation and Beatmaking! Better and lighter than PROTOOLS For sure

Considering that the plugin must be placed on the Apollo console first I would lose Unisson.
Imagine a signal going through a wire . That signal is 3 dimensional circling wire 360 degree. Modelling does only two dimensions . Sometime it works sometime don't. That's reason I prefer real thing.

The Whiteness of the mic and its modeling capabilities almost got me. But Shockmount Issues! Shouldn't they have done a proper Shockmount for that price? I am just saying. Great review as always, Sanjay C.
You know, shockmounts are not that expensive these days. They should've thrown in an inexpensive one for the SC-1, I agree.

Modeling Mic is just like guitar modeler, you get a bunch of amps/mics but not 100% same as the original.
Yeah, definitely can't be 100%, but is the "vibe" of the models worth it?
Dies it matter? You still need a good tune to make it.
Mic modelling is only worth it if the microphone is good as a standalone mic, IMO.

not true.... Antelope Edge note is cheaper also the Slate Digital ML-2, also i like it a bit but see it as a color, because the transients are not the same, so it is not the real beheaviour of the original mics

I have the Apollo Twin Mk II and I downloaded this free plugin that is suppose to work without hardware, but it doesn't work. I reached out UA tech team, almost two weeks and I haven't heard back from them. sent them 2 emails. They have the worst customer service, there was another time I reached out to them when setting up my Apollo Twin, and never heard from them. Once I sell my Apollo Twin Mk ii, I will not be buying their products again. Expensive products and bad customer service.
