I think of all the free plugins I've ever used, Vital and Valhalla Supermassive are the ones that I'm absolutely floored by. Like, Vital is as functional and as good as Serum, I strongly recommend it for anyone new to learning synthesis. Supermassive is a $50+ value reverb and sounds so good - it's kinda ridiculous that it's free.
I picked up vital and serum within pretty much the same timeframe, and I much prefer Vital. Still haven't made anything terrible with it lol! Simple and sounds incredible
@@rasmus44 I personally switch between them constantly, Vital is superior when it comes to modulation and such, but when i create simple Lead or Trance Bass presets i tend to get a good sounding result quicker in Serum.
Labs is absolutely incredible. The way you select libraries to use in the VST is maybe not my favorite (it's very Kontakty), but it also gives Kontakt a run for its money in terms of raw quality and assortment. Get it.
While you're getting u-he's 'Tyrell N6', don't forget to also grab their other great free synths: 'Zebralette', 'Podolski' and 'Triple Cheese' and also 'Protoverb'. You definitely won't regret it! 💯
Thank you so so much for this!! I’m a really new producer who’s having trouble making her sounds feel polished, and i suspect that a big reason for that is having basically no effects lol. Not cause I don’t want them, I just don’t have any! I can’t wait to try all of these out 💖
Just halfway through the video so don't know if it's mentioned already but soundtoys little radiator is currently free!! It adds incredible colour and character to any sound or mix!
Hopefully this saves you some money on Black Friday :) ► All free plugins linked in description. ► Best plugin deals: bit.ly/best-holiday-plugin-deals [supports Sol State*]
Analog obsession are the best free plugins ever imo, they changed the way I mix. Being able to mix with classic audio mixing gear emulations is amazing, and the fact that it's free is just insane.
I have been talking about FreeClip to everyone for years. I'm so happy someone else is spreading the word. If I were to recommend something else, it would be TDR Nova, which is probably the best visual EQ I've ever used. Granted, I haven't used the Fabfilter one, but TDR Nova does the job so well, I don't feel like I need it
+1 on the TDR stuff. I'm a bit so-so on supporting a Russian company, but Nova is irreplaceable to me and Molotok finds its way into all the vocal chains I do.
Vital is absolutely nuts. The sound quality is so good that it is hard to tell the difference between Vital and Serum with the same preset, and even less in a song. It's insane that the developers made it completely free. In my opinion, Vital makes it even more beginner friendly and has a much easier-to-understand and visual interface.
@@SolStateMusic can't say ive used the distortion a lot but I use like 15-30% of the reverb on every vocal I record because I just can't not. It even sounds good with other reverbs after it its just automatic for vocals for me and is smooth on anything really and opens up super wide if needed its something about the density like zero aliasing and the randomizer man its just a go to reverb. just that H-delay and tape from Airwindows can have some incredible results for a vocal
more please! my favorite free plugins recently have been the collection from Analog Obsession. They made some cool analog style plugins. idk if they're accurate, cause I have no frame of reference, but they sound fantastic
Analog "style" in terms of looks. Not behaviours. I don't like the way any of them sound. And it makes sense given that he makes more than 1 every month. I recommend when your ears start to learn the subtleties of good analog gear check out the free plugins by variety of sound, they are much closer to real analog gear. That guy doesn't get enough love.
Gotta say, that kilohearts package is extraordinarily good. Immediately getting some good use out of it. Try sticking that filter on some guitars, really cleans up top end nicely
just gonna say, I haven't used Spitfire in a while, i originally thought it was bad because it wouldn't work, but it turns out Cakewalk just really did not like any VSTS I gave it. Now that I swapped to LMMS, I might try Spitfire again, since I really want to use the different ones for a project I have where I orchestrate tracks from a now defunct game called Fer.al. I think the pianos would work so well for my project. P.S.: I exclusively use free VSTS - I'd love to see more videos like this. Have a great day!!
Free Clip was a game changer, love the kilohearts bundle, definitely need to get into vital and thanks for a great video, keep making more, this channel is dope!
Thank you so much for your videos and i love them. I have humble request: would you please try to level match your narration with the other examples? I'm having serious trouble listening to the video because I am choosing between barely hearing you speak and being hurt by the loud demos

Wow previewing automation is amazing... did not know that. Definitely gonna be trying it out now and saving a ton of time hopefully. I know it's only 2 clicks but with sound design that is significant
Nice to know what others are using . Although I think most people know. When choosing the best plugins, It really depends on your taste ,style , and what you want to accomplish .
“Like this? “Drop” a like.” At 4:40 I see what you did there. 😂. Amazing video, thank you for practical, real world examples of the plug-ins -definitely makes me want to go get them!
I wish all reviewers would use unprocessed accoustic instruments and vocals to demonstrate the effect of plugins. How can we tell what it is doing with a growly synth sound, etc.? We have no referrence point. If we don't know what it sounds like unprocessed, how do we know what the plugin is doing? A synth can have unlimited sounds, accoustic instruments we all know.
I would recommend ignite amps version of the Pultec EQ over analog obsessions. It behaves much truer to the hardware, and sounds much better for it. It's called PTEQx
this is the video i needed! i’m trying to get my friend into producing, but her program doesn’t come with many plugins at all lol. hopefully she likes some of these
