Essential RC reviewed the first Durafly Tundra back in early 2016. It was a revolutionary RC aircraft back then...and now it's been improved with several enhancements that will make it even more durable than the original.
The specs on this version 2 of the Tundra haven't changed but it's certainly more colorful and looks great in the sky. It's a very versatile model. You can fly it off rough terrain with the huge wheels, fly it off water with the included floats and operate off snow with the optional skis. Add to that that it comes with a ply frame for mounting an FPV camera, a candy dropper can easily be fitted and it would be easy to tow gliders due to its clever design.
The small enhancements made to this version 2 will make it far more durable than the original. Bolts are now provided rather than screws for wing and landing gear mounting. A component near each wheel which connects the sprung landing gear wire is now metal rather than plastic so it does not fail under abusive touch and go landings...and to aid slow flight, vortex generators have been added along the leading edge of the wing.
This was the maiden flight so I didn't go mad but it certainly gives you immediate confidence to throw it around when you get it in the air...despite the mild gusting wind. As expected it performs nice solid standard aerobatics. 4 point and smooth axial rolls, loops with more than enough power on tap to pull it over the top, sustained knife edge at full throttle, touch and go's with the sprung undercarriage and wheels absorbing some of my worst approaches. The Tundra is a great package for the relative beginner to RC flying and the expert who wants to explore the immense flexibility in all the different things it can do!
Filmed by Dom Mitchell for the 'Essential RC' RUclips channel at our local model flying club (before the CO-VID19 'lockdown' by UK GOV) with the Panasonic AG-UX180 4K pro camcorder.

Just received the v2 today, wheels aren't EPP, but what feels like very soft PVC coated sponge - unlike the hard originals (not unlike the beautiful Trexlers if you're old enough to remember them :-) . Comes with a pair of carbon horizontal stab struts and affixed clear polycarbonate sheet mounts - no info in manual as to _exactly_ how or where they should be fitted - left to the student to decide obviously :-). Doesn't come with candy dropper nor skis. Mentions the use of 'bolts' now instead of 'screws' - what they mean is M3 screws into brass inserts instead of skanky self-tappers into bare plastic :-) Battery strap is in a stupid and awkward position at the back - rip out the 2mm ply board and remount it nearer the front - or jiggle the strap around 'somehow'. Glue your tyres on to their hubs BTW - UHU Por is fine. The plastic 'screw caps' holding the wheels on aren't a wonderful idea - you're not going to take them off again (you need to remove the whole U/C assy to fix the floats/schwimmer anyway), so solder a neat washer on instead :-) Looks like a nice practical 'hack' model for chucking in the back of the car for some 'guerilla' flying !

Its nice to see HK revamp this awesome model but a few better mods to truly call it a V2 would have been nice. Plus there is not a lot of spare parts available for at at the moment which (to me) is always worrying... as my style of flying (or lack there of) requires more spares than batteries..... loving the purple and orange colors.. great review BTW.

Yikes! This one is £50 more than I paid for mine 3 or 4 years ago when they first added the reversing ESC. Not sure the improvements justify that much of a price hike, but the Tundra is a great first or second plane, and is aerobatic enough to keep anyone happy.

Well done on the scoop with the V2! A minor upgrade but some nice touches - I particularly like the bolts instead of screws ... a major plus if you regularly switch between wheels & floats. The big question though is whether those vortex generators help tame the V1's rather abrupt wing drop when flying without flaps? Also ... does the new battery plate let you put the pack far enough back? The V1 Colour Edition is nose heavy (due to the 'soft' wheels) and actually balances about right without a pack on board! It's a shame they've stuck with that noisy & inefficient carbon prop, but swapping to an APC is no big deal :-)

I just sold my s2 after 3 flights as I thought it was a bit docile for my progression.

I generally don't fly Horizon Hobbies or E-Flite RC aircraft as they are generally overpriced compared to the equivalent HobbyKing models. For that reason I can't make a comparison. Eh, because that's the recommendation and because you achieve the required CG by doing it!? Put in a heavier pack if you want. You'll get longer flying time but more weight means more stress on the landing gear and it just won't be as agile in the air.
