Thanks very much for your in-depth review of the Grand Tundra I have mine ordered but still waiting for them to ship . It was really great to see the CG setup stuff like that's really for us guys getting our new planes anyway thanks again please keep up all the good work Bobby . Great job as usual, Chris. I am assembling my Green/Gold Grand Tundra now. Just a quick note regarding the landing gear. I found it easier to attach the struts to the fuse first, then attach the cross brace to the strut mounts. I opted to attach the cross brace in FRONT of the strut mounts instead of in between them and did not use the rubber tubing spacers. This makes it easier to get to the screws that mount the struts to the fuse when I want to switch over to floats. I used a cotter pin to secure it in place as the supplied screws are a tad to short to use this way. Will try to get longer screws if I can find them. Also, I had to grind the flattened ends of the cross brace a bit to get it to square up. This slight modification does not change the landing gear mechanics. I really wish Hobby King and other manufacturers would design planes so that both landing gear and floats could be swapped quickly and easily and preferably without tools. This would avoid the possibility of losing any screws in the process which, for me, usually means a plane is unflyable if I lose just one screw. Man, this is one incredible plane and wow it is HUGE!!! Hope to maiden it this weekend and then set it up with FPV. Thanks for another great video and website tutorial. Great video but for what is that piece of foam that looks it fit the bottom of the aircraft like dimond shape and in top of the wing in the center those piece of plastic that stick out like horns.?
Thanks! That diamond shaped foam piece I'm pretty sure is for the optional floats. It doesn't get used for the standard configuration. Those silver plastic pieces that get glued into the wings are vortex generators. They're there to intentionally turbulate the flow over the top of the wing. This helps put energy into the airflow to avoid laminar separation that can occur keeping the air from separating at slow speeds which helps the airplane's slow flight characteristics. @@markuswormann9744 Sorry, just now saw this comment. I don't recall the weight, but it certainly wasn't an issue for the airframe as it was very lightly loaded and could slow way down.
Awesome video and review! Looks to be a great performer. I think I will end up fitting the Du-Bro tailwheel to mine since it was so great on the CZ Cub.

Vn. I keep hearing the 60 amp esc is too small when using a 6s batt? What numbers where you getting watts.amps when using the 6s thx
I never measured the amps, but we did a ton of flying with the airplane on 6s without really any issues. One flight I did experience some thermal issues with the motor starting to cut out a bit at full throttle. That was only once and when flying the airplane mostly full throttle.
thx to your nice video I bought one xd, but I have a question people say the esc end comes with a xt-90? is that correct if so I have 6s 4000 with xt60 ends on them. what ends do I need on the adapter? I see some on horizon hobby for 6 bucks but they are female xt60 to male xt90 is that the correct one's thx glenn
If I remember right, i think the male connector side is on the esc with the females on the battery side.
Great video. Saw it, bought it and received it today. But I cannot figure out how to setup the lights. Connect where and turn on/off? do you have a quick ansvar. thanks in advance
To get the lights to work, they have to be plugged in completely. There's a connection at the receiver and then a connection at the battery.

To fly 5S change the ESC battery type from lipo to ni-cad, the only thing you will lose is low voltage alarm/cut-off.
Just got mine, and running on 6 cell. Interesting the manual say 75 to 80mm for cfg. But found the battery is much further back. Would you suggest 65 to 70mm as a better option?
I was really happy with where my cg was on the airplane, flew great! I’d recommend starting a little forward and then moving it back to suit your desired feel and flying style.
My friend how can get get out the reverse, because when i get out the reverse in my spectrum receiver, the engine is going to reverse , thanks for you help
Well, typically all that would be required is to swap two of the 3 wires between the ESC and the motor. That'll change the direction of the motor. However, this is a reversable ESC so make sure it's not in reverse mode. I never explored that with this model, so unfortunately can't really help there on the ESC programming.

Great video mate! I just bought one of these and can't wait for it to arrive. For me it's the perfect plane....Big wheels, soft landing gear means you can fly it anywhere, big high wing so it flies well and looks awesome with plenty of grunt! I'm hanging out for this aircraft!

Do you know what that's for? And do you connect the navigation light leads with a y lead? Are the nav lights programmable? Cheers.

Unfortunately I couldn't tell you at this point as I don't have the airplane anymore to take a dimension off of.
Just received my 2nd Grand Tundra after sending the 1st one back due to the wings not fitting properly as well as other bits not fitting. I was sent a 2nd set of wings but these were 2nd-hand and the servos had been removed and they didn't fit properly anyway. So the whole lot was sent back to Hobbyking. Assembled the stabilisers today on the new one and believe it or not they don't fit properly. The screw holes either side on the underneath are nowhere near lined up. As it took around two months sort out the mess of the first one and get a replacement, I can't be bother going through it all again so I'm going to have to work out a way to safely drill the plastic insert in the fuselage so I can fit the screws either side. Very frustrating.
I’m really sorry to hear that about you grand tundra. HK quality is so hit and miss, it’s really unfortunate as they have some great models. If you can weather through it, it’s a great flyer!

i was thinking about getting some real dubro inflatable wheels for this because I did it with the cessna 150 eflite with great results do you think it would affect cg too much?
You might want to look at the kavan balloon tires for this as they’re considerably lighter than the dubro balloon tires.
@@Thercgeek unfortunately Kavan doesn't have anything larger than 5 inch diameter and I was hoping to match the size of the tires on the avios which i believe is 6 inch also dubros are apparently cheaper.
Ah, ok. Well, you will probably have to look at moving the battery back to get the cg where you want it with the dubros. Kind of crazy that the dubros are cheaper. They’re a very robust tire.
What is the flying actual weight with a 4 s, people say the specs on the product sheet are not accurate on the weight, great review and build video

I recently crashed my Tundra V2 and was offered a chance to buy the Grand Tundra model ....do you have any experience with the smaller V2 ..if so can you tell me how the larger model compares............. is the Grand a nice flyer...I imagine it can handle the wind and it seems to have plenty of power on a 6S ....thanks
I really o my have experience with the grand tundra. I’d imagine the smaller would fly pretty similarly though as it’s a pretty standard aerodynamic design and configuration.

Hey! What Receiver did you fit? Does it have to be 7ch to have the lights working properly, I have a Spektrum DX8 so i need a DSMX Rx, can you help with options? Thanks!
I don't think you need a 7ch Rx to get the lights working, but I don't remember. I don't have the airplane anymore, so I can't check either. It's a 6 channel airplane and the lights only need a power input, nothing else. That can be drawn from any of the channels through a y-harness if needed.
Yeah, the only thing is if i want to put them on a switch and have off, on or blinking would that not affect or be possible being y’d into an existing channel?
If you want to operate them from a switch, then yes you'll need a separate channel. You'll also need an electronic switch or something like that too as they're setup completely passively stock being lit whenever the radio is on.

It’s called an accuthrow meter and was made by great planes. Unfortunately, they’re not made anymore. 😕
Haha, great place to fly, but a little hike is required to get there. Biggest plane that I flew there was my FMS 1400mm 182.

It’s a runcam2. I just simply taped it down onto the surface.

How do you wire the LED's?
I don't remember off hand and I don't have the airplane anymore to look. They only require power, so if you connect them all together and plug them into the Rx, they should light up.
Where did you get the pitch guage?

I would imagine with some major modification it could be done.
The landing on 10:30 would have been a perfect example for a ultra short landing using thrust reverse when set up.
True! I wasn’t aware of the reversing esc on this at the time, so never set it up.

Honestly, either works great. 4 cell is great for cruising around and doing scale type aerobatics. 6 cell is great for much more extreme aerobatics. So, it really depends on what you want to get out of the airplane.

Why are planes on the wall moving??
They're hanging from a single attachment in the ceiling, so it's pretty typical for them to rotate around like that. Doesn't take much.
I LOVE AVIOS'S MODELS THE ZAZZY IS AMAZING TOO. NOTE: THE TAIL WHEEL ASSEMBLY ON THE ZAZZY IS WEAK BUT I JUST MODIFIED IT WITH A DIFFERENT SCREW TO HOLD THE WHEEL STRAIGHT AND IT'S FINE...!!!
That name though, Zazzy, haha! ;) The GT flies so good, I was pleasantly surprised as I'd not flown any previously.
Looks like it might be time to retire the old hobbyzone supercub.
As of 11/28/17, there are still no instructions being provided in the box! Lots of small parts!!

Durafly says the manual is under UPLOADS. Kinda not intuitive if you ask me! I will try to load the link or the manual tomorrow.

I bought one of these and was so excited. The design is good but the quality of assembly is so bad I have decided to not buy from HobbyKing again. The last straw was when I started testing it and one of the servos was bad. There was no way to replace the servo without damaging the plane. I packed it up and returned it and only received store credit.
I understand. HK makes some good airplanes, but yeah quality can be hit and miss. Most of the time it's "good enough."

Landing Gear Assembly Looks like a Nightmare to Assemble?

That landing gear looks way to flimsy , a landing gear in a funcup style a simpel pice of bended pianowire will do the work way better , i do fly both planes a i switched the landing gear on the tundra , tundra is a nice bush style plane that fly nice a it will fit in the back of your car 👍😎 remember fly it like you stole it ....
Like the Grand Tundra and you did a great job with the video, but drop the Chuck Norris, it not needed and made it hard to watch.
