    HK sent me one of the first ones! I made HK crazy with my comments about the late arriving GT. HK early days of mentioning projects that were VERY late coming to the USA! I think it was almost a year late after they mentioned it way too early! Stuart's kids name is inside the aft portion of the fuse mold! Best RC promo ever with "Tundrastuck" the perfect AC/DC cover ever produced! My dying dad bought it for me for Xmas 6 years ago! She's a shelf queen for now! I'll fly it again IF HK stays afloat and produces more parts for it!

    Wow Adam, yet another great one in the books! First, my heart and prayers go out to the Elmore family during this trying time. Your flight demo of this model is just amazing, and Heidi's video capture against those dark skies was really super good too! I think this plane makes for more of a sport-scale bird than a true bush plane, both in looks and performance, but then again, that probably appeals to a much wider audience. I still can't get over how you can so easily transition from scale flight to 3D!! I'm doing good just to get a good scale flight in! Thanks for a great look at this wonderful model from Stuart and the crew at H-K! All the best to you and Heidi and happy landings my friend 😎👍😁✌

      Hey John thanks bro! Yeah it is a very versatile plane. I love the gear and it slows down really well...I think with a dedicated STOL set up it will perform with the best of Bush planes. It is really nice though that with a somewhat normal set up it can do it all as well as it does. Thanks very much for the prayers for Scott's family. Whenever he gets time to read all the nice wishes it will touch his heart.

    Great video, Adam. A really thorough examination of the model. Looked like a stormy day in the Peach State for the maiden flights, but it certainly added a dramatic backdrop. I've always looked past the HK Tundras in favour of the E-flite Timbers... maybe I need to try one sometime. It wouldn't be the Grand Tundra, as I've no place to store it now... we're totally maxed-out on hangar space. Condolences to your friend Scott and his family.

      Hey miss Gina! First thank you for the well wishes to Scott and family. The Timbers are awesome planes, and that said it appears the Tundras are right there with them. To be fair I haven't really flown the smaller Tundra more than a quick maiden and trimming for other folks...then handed it over. I imagine its as good relative to the size as its big brother.

    Ive flown, crashed and custom built a few of these incredible planes and my best single suggestion I have involves the elevator. I never leave the ground until I cut off both elevators and reinstall them using three DuBro hinges on both sides - trust me on this modification because the foam hinge quickly becomes weak - I actually started seeing daylight through the factory hinge on my first Tundra.

    • @ModelAV8RChannel

      Thanks for that Greg...I'll let Scott the owner know to keep an eye on it. Thanks so much for watching! In the past I've also re-done the foam hinges on many planes with Welders cement or Foam Tac and it is much stronger than stock.

    Great review and flying Adam. This has given me alot to consider. Seems my tundra may be a bit more heavy than most,with all the extra fpv equipment and a larger battery than you are using, I also don't use the vortex generators for inverted flying.. it explains my stalls being harder to recover from. Also I have burned up a motor doing over aggressive maneuvers. A sincere thanks for the great and exstensive review. It has given me alot to consider on a plane I thought I knew completely.✌👊👍👏. I use large automotive gasket instead of the rubber bands it comes with. Looks nice and are very strong.
    Thanks Adam
    Jude

    • @ModelAV8RChannel
      @ModelAV8RChannel  2 года назад +1

      Hey Jude thank you man! The vortex generators help I think, and from what I've experienced don't adversely affect inverted flight. We have the same ones we put on a Arrows Husky we did a review on and same results inverted with it. The weight can affect stall characteristics as you said for sure, and also elevator deflection and specific balance point can affect it as well. I'm going to share something with you...if you already know this very cool, but if not it may help. A lot of times stall recovery method has something to do with it. Usually simply neutralizing the controls and easing out of it when the plane rights itself will get it done. I see a lot of pilots make the mistake of trying to immediately pull hard to get them out of a stall, and this just makes it worse. Something I teach to help pilots better understand this is to do a full elevator power off test. You get it high, stall it normally, but then hold full up elevator...most times if the plane drops a wing at stall...then holding only full up elevator will keep it stalled, and it will spin. Release the controls, and it stops....ease it out. Most folks don't realize a plane can spin with no rudder or aileron input...all you have to do is hold it in the stall with up elevator, and the wing "drops" constantly until you release the pressure and let it fly again. Most folks I show this are amazed that getting out of a stall requires doing nothing really except letting the wing fly again and making sure you don't induce another stall by pulling to hard too fast. Anyway you may have already known this but if not maybe it will help. I like the idea of the automotive bands...I love the versatility of the gear...so adjustable! Jude thanks again so much for checking us out...we really appreciate it man. You and Emily have a great week!

    Nice flying. I recently managed to get a second-hand one of these in very good condition. I've only flown it 4S so far and am very pleased with it. I'd like to try 6S now I've seen your footage but my only 6 cell lipos are 5000mah 30C @ 745g. Seeing how far back I'm mounting 4000 4S, I'm not sure if I'll be able to get those big 6S in or not. I think it's a lovely aircraft to fly. Just the pleasure of the landings - keeping on a touch of power with the flaps out or just sinking into a lovely zero power flapless 3 pointer - so satisfying.

    Hello. Awesome video. How many C would you recommend for a 6s 4500/
    5000mah would you recommend..would this work with li ion battery for long flights?

    • @ModelAV8RChannel
      @ModelAV8RChannel  2 года назад +1

      Hi, thanks for watching. Any reasonably good quality Lipo will do fine. The c rating really doesn't matter. There is no "standard" set by any governing authority that states a certain internal resistance is required for a Lipo to be rated at a specific C rating. So basically one manufacturers 60c battery may have the same internal resistance as another company's 45c. Really all you can be certain of is that within one specific company...say Pulse for instance...is that Pulse's batteries internal resistance gets lower as their C rating gets higher. So their 65c packs are better than their 45c packs. I can tell a difference in performance from one battery to the next sometimes, but when they are new the difference is really nominal. Any "new" halfway good Lipo will fly this plane fine. The difference in quality comes in when you talk about how many cycles you get out of them and at what point does the power start to fade. Results there will vary greatly. I use Pulse and HRB. I get anywhere from 55% to 75% the cycles out of the HRB's as I get with the Pulse depending on what I use them in, but the HRB's cost half as much as the Pulse.
      I don't have any experience using Li Ion in RC planes so I can't really speak to that.

    • @ModelAV8RChannel
      @ModelAV8RChannel  Год назад

      It's fine. Two things...most ESC's are rated to take a few amps more than their rating, but more importantly with a propeller driven plane the amps unload a good bit in flight. This was a bench pull while holding the plane in place. For example (this is the one I remember the numbers on) my FMS Pitts 1400 unloads by 10 amps in the air. It was 55 amps on the bench, and 45 amps flying at WOT.

It seems like more of our videos are taking off pretty good on the first day or two due to the YT algorithm suggesting our videos more the closer we get to 1000 subs. I'm totally guessing here, but for what its worth...I "think" the more subs we get the more people check them out right at first, the algorithm picks that up and starts suggesting it more and if there is interest...it keeps doing it for a while.

    • @ModelAV8RChannel
      @ModelAV8RChannel  6 месяцев назад +1

      The mm figure is the measured amount of throw (with a ruler) for each control surface. You adjust your transmitter rates/servo travel and possibly make mechanical adjustments to get that amount of throw on yours if you are trying to duplicate this set up. Most TX's have percentages for rates, but they don't all move the servos the same distance. This is why we measure the throw so that can be duplicated with any TX.

    I was very interested in purchasing that plane until i saw the silly complexity on that landing gear apparatus! to many parts to fail on it.

      Hey James thanks for watching! Actually the articulating gear works very well and is very strong...same kind of gear a full size Cub has, they just use bungees instead of bands. The rubber bands have to be refreshed from time to time, but you are more likely to break or bend regular aluminum or carbon fiber gear than you are to break this gear.
