Was Olivia a villain or just another victim? To push this in the algo, feel free to like, comment, share or any sort of interaction. The Dark Lords will reward you...
She was very much a villain. She didn't even try to resist the influence of Hell, disregarded any warnings and sacrificed so much just for her own benefit. At least, the Khan Makyr did what she had to safeguard her species. I can't deny she had it worse than Betruger though. :/
I have no sympathy for Elivia. She had promised her cultists power and influence in hell but she knew they would get nothing but death. She had planned to sacrifice all of Earth for enernal life and to gain power and a place in the upper hierarchy of hell. She knew exactly what she was doing and who she was hurting for her selfish gain. She is a villain in my eyes with no redeeming qualities. Her story ended perfect as her brain turned into the grand canyon.
Maybe Olivia was under the influence of the artifacts, not just physically, but mentally too. Hayden was an idiot to not rotate the crew in the Lazarus lab. He enabled what he wanted to avoid in the first place.
@@kazcavYou must be new here. Doom has one of the richest and most complex stories in gaming history, and Doom Eternal is probably one of the most lore filled of the bunch. The only difference is that the lore is all buried in text as opposed to cutscenes and stuff. But these games have almost more lore than a lot of other games.
@corvus8638Because Hayden wanted everything to happen. He's a Seraphim (an angel) who served the father (VEGA) and he knew the only way to defeat the dark lord was for hell to invade and the Doom Slayer awakened. He absolutely wanted all that to happen, that's why he did nothing. He knew what Olivia was doing, and he knew she'd do it before she did it. He wanted hell to invade. It was the only way to defeat the Khan Makyr and The Dark Lord. It wasn't bad writing at all, you just haven't got all the facts.
@corvus8638 You'd be surprised how many people reject medications, such as pain medications, for reasons similar to Olivia. They also don't want to get dependent. They think it will make them stronger, but ends up having the effect of making them weaker.
That shot of the BFG into the mouth still is so cool. A deserving ending for someone who tried to sacrifice the whole world for her own gain. Olivia might have been manipulated but also was evil herself. I mean, if the demons of hell make an statue to honor you...
Samur Makyr bears some responsibility for Olivia Pearce's fall but she used her free will to make some very questionable choices at first, and later her decisions became quite deranged and evil.
I love your video, man. They bring me joy every day when I am looking for some good lore. There's are two things that I wanted to add: •In Doom Eternal codex surrounded Deag Ranak, it is said that the hell priest had some contact with Olivia Pierce, and she probably took some part on the invasion of Earth aswell. • Her legacy doesn't only end with her statue in Nekravol. In the codex of the Archnotron, it stated that they were created with the dna in the body of the original Spidermastermind. You could see the similarities in design and attacks.
Thanks for watching them. Looking back, I agree that I should have included that in the video. When I wrote it, I wanted to keep the video on Olivia and not bring up Argent D'Nur, the Hell Priests and why they wanted to take down Earth. It is something I have gone into in depth in a future video.
I think Hayden was focused on the development of Argent Energy project, which is why he probably gave Olivia a free-hand. However, Samur Makyr did notice Olivia's cult activities which is why he brought back the Doom Slayer. The Slayer was his contingency plan in the event things go wrong.
Because they don't want to be a detective or do homework, probably. They just want to run, gun, and tear demons apart en masse. They don't need much justification to do it, as long as it's fun. Which makes perfect sense to me. I think DOOM 2016 honestly did a perfect compromise but Eternal shoved too much down some people's throats, and they don't like it.
I find it very hard to believe that Samur Mykr has absolutely no clue what she was up to considering just how massive the Cultist operation was not just on Mars, but Earth as well. The resources required to create such massive complex bases would of had to come to the attention of Samur. It also seems like Samur did very little to actually stop Olivia. He could have killed her the minute he suspected something was wrong with her, but he didn't. Why? Was this part of the plan?
The dark lord probably manipulated Samur Maykr by implanting thoughts in him. This was why Samur Maykr thought of reversing orientation of the Divinity Machine to grant the doom slayer the Dark Lord's power. So even though the Father told Samur Maykr to head to Earth, he may have been also under the influence of the Dark Lord to allow certain humans to conduct research of demonic artifacts.
Yeah, to be honest, Hayden definitely did not see the bigger picture after all, he's been to that realm he should know the influence that certain objects from Hell would have on the minds of people he really should have kept what he found there locked up and observed from a safe distance there probably wasn't even a need for UP close and personal research not to mention when it comes to certain type of people that can be easily influenced it's people like Olivia workaholics who work over around-the-clock who already probably don't have the best mental state to begin with not to mention her chronic pains as well without a much healthy body, the mind would quickly deteriorate leaving you much more open to susceptible influence.
I have actually wondered if Malcom Betruger might be the Wretch spoken of in The Slayer Testament. It was established in 2016/Eternal that a Doom Multiverse with many different versions of Earth exists but they all share the same Hell. So is it possible that sometime after being trapped in Hell following the events of Doom 3, Betruger encountered the Doom Slayer and forged a suit of armor for him using both his expertise from his former life as a scientist and the knowledge he had gained about the power of Hell? As for why he would help the Slayer, it's possible the Betruger we encounter in Doom 3 wasn't Betruger at all but something that had possessed his body given how according to his colleagues, he basically became a different person after traveling to Hell. So maybe the real Betruger had been trapped in Hell ever since waiting for a chance to get revenge.
I never noticed the statue of Olivia, I was probably too focused on not being torn up by demons though. I've said this before, but the sudden transformation into the Spider Mastermind never made sense, but I think that if time worked differently in Hell, mere seconds for us could have been years of agony for her as her body and cybernetics were twisted into what she became.
There's a line out there - the path to hell is paved with the best intentions... in this case, literally. She ended up too obsessed over something, and in the end, became a Benedict Arnold. The Demons of Hell made a statue of her, after all. Also, I remember my first time in that boss fight - I wasn't... very accurate with my guns yet (Still new to FPSs), and ended up using up all the ammo for all my guns, meaning that for the majority of that fight, I had to kill the spider with a pistol.

With that said I think her codex entries are interesting evil considering the perspective of a recruited scientist or staff member. She tells people that the science they do is their new faith (mixing religion with science, red flag already) telling them that the Titans realm is a honorable place to sacrifice yourself to uncaring titans, and also the fact that Revenants and Cyber Mancubi production was supervised by her (opposing to the UAC’s goal of simple energy extraction). It would also be worth mentioning that final farewell letter/codex we get on the level were we fight the Spider Mastermind, which I won’t read because it’s pretty long, but suffice to say that calling it a middle finger to humanity is a bit of an understatement.
I agree with your point. For all the evil she had in her, she wasn’t the best manipulator as her research progressed. But shoutout to that last log from the argent de nur level where she goes full evil mode

Dude. We aren't talking about some vulnerable naive little girl tricked by the devil here. Olivia is supposedly one of the smartest humans alive with the very best education, she has access to near unlimited resources, material or otherwise. She's an elite living at the very tippy top of the 1%. There's no possibility in hell she doesn't know what it means to deal with the devil. No, she deserves only condemnation.
I don’t know why tf people believe demons when they promise some vague shit like eternal life or power. They’re mf demons, what did you think was going to happen????
I think there's a big part of the story that a lot of people miss, because DOOM was going for a show don't tell kind of story (sometimes). Both Sam Hayden and Olivia Pierce were the two people that spent the most time interacting with hell and artifacts from hell. Is it a coincidence they both got terminal illnesses? What I think happened was the demons gave Hayden brain cancer first and offered him a cure and power in exchange for his help. Because Hayden is such a badass he told them to pound sand, and built his own robot body instead. So then they tried the same tactic with Olivia, but this time it worked. That's why Hayden isn't at all surprised that Olivia betrayed humanity, he's simply "disappointed she wasn't stronger". He knew they would make that kind of offer because they made it with him. At the very least it's a fun theory. (I'm ignoring later stuff from Doom: Eternal because I think the Eternal lore is a convoluted step backwards, and more importantly because I don't think they had thought of any of it when writing DOOM 2016)
Hardens brain cancer is either faked or had something to do with his Makyr biology not quite gelling well with his human body. The faking part might be the fact he need to put certain parts of his brain in a robot so he could enter hell to find the slayer
hello Skyrrion Olivia Pierce is such a tragic Villain undone by her Intelligence and good intentions..But when One dine with the Devil one needs a long spoon
Doom has such cool lore however the games honestly do a bad job telling the story. They put so much story in the codex and stuff but when we buy a game we want to experience the story not just read it. I hope in newer games they step up the storytelling because it comes off as lazy writting
Doom 2016 plot feels like science fiction with a taste of a fantasy. Doom Eternal feels like a fantasy game with sci-fi background, very disappointing.
Dr. Malcolm Betruger from Doom 3 was supposed to turn into a spider mastermind like Dr. Olivia Pierce and be the end boss instead of the cyber demon, however that idea was scratched.

That dude said 2095 well I won't be around to see it I'll be dead LOL
I think we're all lucky
when will people learn: don't go dicking about with strange objects! and if you find one, LEAVE IT THERE! it was hidden for a reason.

@@DONG-502may be not. Doom eternal story was a bit convoluted indeed.
Cool story, is this spoken in a certain US accent? Sounds slightly British
hello Skyrrion Olivia Pierce is such a tragic Villain undone by her Intelligence and good intentions..But when One dine with the Devil one needs a long spoon
absolutely
Doom has such cool lore however the games honestly do a bad job telling the story. They put so much story in the codex and stuff but when we buy a game we want to experience the story not just read it. I hope in newer games they step up the storytelling because it comes off as lazy writting

All they did was making her attractive😂

Cringe. Puts adverts with "skip this advert button" but they keep playing when presssd 🤮
Sounds like an issue with your browser tbh
This looks nothing like Doom. You couldn't play this on an IBM PC.
I guess technology moved on. The classic graphics are still peak.
I kinda wish they kept doom guy blazkowicz a silent protagonist
Doom 2016 plot feels like science fiction with a taste of a fantasy. Doom Eternal feels like a fantasy game with sci-fi background, very disappointing.

@@DONG-502 Thanks for attention
@ghos7bear You have the right to your wrong opinion. These elements have always been a part of Doom.
You're missing out. 😊

Dr. Malcolm Betruger from Doom 3 was supposed to turn into a spider mastermind like Dr. Olivia Pierce and be the end boss instead of the cyber demon, however that idea was scratched.
