Yes, even the Dreamcast was stronger than the PS2 in some areas. Like most (all?) ports run a higher resolution on Dreamcast. The PS2 falls far behind the GC and way further behind the OG Xbox in every regard. PS2 sold more units and got most attention.

Yep, and the design of the Dreamcast was done in Japan and the system was literally made in Japan (with some later made in China). The 32X however was an American based design and it completely flopped and practically ruined Sega.

The PS2 was not more powerful then the Xbox, the Xbox's CPU was about 2.5× faster, had almost twice the RAM. The HD inclusion made loading times faster. It also did have a DVD player though it made you get a remote for it. PS2 definitely had longer legs because it was such a success, and lingered on well into the 2010's.

Franklin Puerto exactly. ps2 was not capable of dynamic shadows, bump mapping, normal mapping, the havoc physics engine, fur mapping, DOOM 3, Riddick, any splinter cell game on Xbox was far beyond anything ps2 was capable of hence them releasing dumbed down ugly, completely different games for the ps2. it simply didn't have the horsepower to keep up with pc like Xbox did.

I remember when I was younger my mom didn't see the point of getting the PS2 and my dad convinced her telling her it could play DVDs. Not only did we game like crazy on our PS2 but it was our household DVD player for many years. Such a great console, honestly
18.04 "Dreamcast was at the wrong time at the wrong place". - Actually, being released a year before the PS2 it had a tremendous advantage to build up an impressive game library and carry on the momentum. The reason it actually failed, was that every time they produced a console they lost money. So they tried to make the money back in games. But this didn't work. Shen Mue for instance, was the most expensive game ever made yet lost out on sales to budget titles like streetfighter. The console and it's advertising was just losing them money so they just refused to fight.
I grew up with the Dreamcast. Loved that system. The Dreamcast opening logo actually gave me the most nostalgia of all the consoles. Loved playing Sonic Adventure 2, Spider-Man, Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2, WWF Attitude, 18 Wheeler, Crazy Taxi 2 before school.. And nobody else had it! My favorite console ever.

Dreamcast is still my favorite even though I played my ps2 by far the most. That's just because the Dreamcast was discontinued and quit making games. Otherwise, I would have been Dreamcast all day long. Their games were really fun, and the graphics were good. The console performed well.
Sega didn't actually quit games, but rather stopped making consoles and console-exclusive games. According to Flatlife, Sega, officially becoming a third-party developer, now made games for Android, iOS and even in some Nintendo consoles. They even ported some of their console-exclusive games to phones. with their "Sega Forever" campaign.

If you're into emulation scene, Dreamcast and GameCube are becoming extremely beloved. I wasn't the biggest GameCube fan when I owned it. But it's become my favorite Nintendo console even over SNES.

Why i think the sixth generation was the best comes down to one aspect, Dreamcast, GameCube, PlayStation 2 and Xbox were so different from each other, so much choice, so much variety, unlike these day's.

The sixth gen was the beginning of the end of individuality rather than its height IMO. In the fifth gen you could tell if a game was on N64 or PS1 from a single screen shot. In the fourth gen you could tell if a game was on SNES or Genesis by sound, alone.

Supreme My personal favourite gen is the sixth but yes i totally understand why so many people think the seventh was the best. So many fantastic IP's began, Dead Space, Uncharted, Resistance, MotorStorm, Bioshock, Gears of War, Mass Effect, Crackdown, Left 4 Dead. Agree, the only stand out game for me this gen so far has been The Witcher 3.

This video was pretty terrible, lots of miss information. First you’re not giving nether the Dreamcast nor the GameCube enough credit. Especially GameCube in its graphic capabilities (for example it had 8 texture pipe lines vs the Xbox’s 4). The Xbox was more powerful than the GameCube but both were more powerful than the ps2. In some aspects the Dreamcast was more powerful than the ps2 as well, with more video ram and VGA output 480 progressive. Games such as resident evil CV look much better on Dreamcast to ps2, and games like Sonic Adventure look superior on Dreamcast vs the GameCube version. The Dreamcast was absolutely mind blowing when I bought one at launch. Lastly you talk about Nintendo joining up with Sony, they were going to join up originally the PlayStation was going to be a CD addon but Nintendo fucked Sony over and was in talks with Phillips behind Sony’s back (eventually all that came from that was a few Nintendo titles on the Philips CDi) Sony forged ahead with the PlayStation concept and it became the console we know. You seem like maybe you were born around the time of this gen of consoles, like you don’t really have a grip as to what the actual fuck was going on at the time.

I was wondering why he missed so many games. Super Mario Sunshine isn't even regarded as a great Mario game, let alone THE game the Gamecube was most recognized for. Metroid Prime, Super Smash Bros. Melee, and The Wind Waker were its defining games (and RE4 for maybe 7 minutes lol). And of course, Animal Crossing, Pikmin, and Eternal Darkness are some genuinely unique titles.
He didn't really mention a lot of the PS2's more iconic games either. Why devote a category to games when you're only going to mention one or two games per console? How does someone talk about the PS2 and say nothing about Metal Gear Solid, Final Fantasy, God of War, Guitar Hero, or Team Ico. Xbox had some great PC ports, KOTOR being one of the best. I'm just overall critical of this video, most of that second paragraph was extra criticism, lol.

EHHHHHHHHHH. Disk space has absolutely nothing to do with power. Less diskspace can mean less content, lower quality textures, less language etc but it has NOTHING to do with power.
Gamecube was partly based on the dreamcast. GPU was actually on par with xbox. All the systems had better GPU's than PS2, even Dreamcast. Dreamcast had barely any memory compared though. So total power it was xbox was on par with gamecube which were both above ps2 and dreamcast. PS2 runs everything at half the resolution of the others to get the effects.

And the Sega Sports titles was crazy. NFL 2K shitted on Madden, NBA 2K shitted on live and even the baseball games were better. Sega was really the better company as far as games go its just Sony and the others had superior hardware and software. But honestly Sega had the more innovation as well seeing that most of what we do in today's gaming started on the DC
I disagree Sega was on its lasts leg with the dreamcast and when the ps2 came out it just dropped kicked that leg I don't think a DVD player would have saved Sega just delayed its console making death. I think part of the problem with the dreamcast is they shouldn't have lunched it so soon. the guy in video has no idea what he's talking about there's lots of reasons Sega got out of the console game
acoustic404 quite possible. Sadly, as a means of copy protection (which backfired horribly) the Dreamcast opted to use GD-Roms which were 1GB . However they didn’t go much further on the first gen systems and quickly people figured out most of that space wasn’t utilized by the games and the system would read burned games with limited effort.. so probably should have gone with DVD instead I guess haha.. they also could have continued their relationship with Microsoft who provided the version of CE the Dreamcast ran on and we could have seen the future as a Sega Xbox instead.. much like Nintendo missed out of the original PlayStation
Actually, Sega has consistently supported Nintendo and made the majority of their releases on the Nintendo systems starting with Gamecube and through the Switch.
As for WiiU, i didn't give it a chance at first but honestly there are very few bad games on that system, just my opinion

raw power of the hardware does not matter. what sells is software and the hype behind games. Playstation had Final Fantasy and Tomb Raider. Nintendo had Mario. Xbox made backwards compatibility cause of Halo 2 .Dreamcast was drowning in unsalable inventory.

The Xbox version was always guaranteed to be at least as good as the PS2 version. Usually better.
The only exeption I can think of is Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit 2 - the PS2 and Xbox versions were developed by different studios and the original PS2 version is considered to be the better one.

This kid just used wikipedia. Xbox had broadband modem, hdd, could rip music and could definitely play DVDs right out of the box.
I own every single one of these console's the Xbox will automatically store your music on the hard drive . You need a add on feature that plugs in the top of the controller in order to watch DVD's that i don't have .The PlayStation 2 dosent have that problem pop in your movie and it's ready to go.

My brother had a Dreamcast, it was good but I hated that there was no right stick, some games it didn't matter but other it was just a killer for me. Gamecube was better than I thought it would be, I bought one near the end, I already had PS2. I can't help but wonder what would've happened if Gamecube could play dvd.

Soytumuh actually graphics wise the GameCube was better but cpu wise the Xbox was better. I think if Nintendo went with DVDs instead of mini DVDs they could've come on par or even better than the Xbox in the graphics department
Xbox by a long shot is the better console, and why is Xbox better than PS2, I’ll tell you why. First of all the original Xbox is technically is a PC console. The Xbox had better graphics than the ps2. The Xbox had exclusives like Ninja Gaiden, Star Wars Republic Comando, The first Forza, Halo CB, and Halo 2 which arguably is the greatest story and campaign in video game history. Both Halo games being the first successful first person shooters on console’s paving the way for all call of duty multiplayer games. Xbox had Xbox Live which revolutionized online gaming. Halo 2 out sold the highest rating movie of 2004 and outsold any full-feature movie in entertainment history during that time, and Halo 2 sold 2.4 million units in 24 hours. You could also download music on your Xbox and listen to music as you played your games, and you had more features in the settings. Don’t get me wrong the ps2 was great, but it’s graphics even lacked compared to the game cube, and the ps2 online was difficult to play on. It’s preference for any generation of consoles, but Xbox did it better in every way. Sure the ps2 had more exclusives, and the ps2 is the highest sold console in console history because it came out a year before the Xbox, and everyone wanted to buy a dvd during that time before the Xbox was out because DVD players were so expensive compared to the ps2, but I had both the Xbox and the ps2, I still have my Xbox, sadly I gave my ps2 away, but I have to say for owning both, I do prefer the Xbox.

Aside from the DVD thing he used to show power (which it really doesn't), he's right. The Xbox was the most powerful console of that generation. I thought the Xbox didn't have a lot of great games, but it was the strongest. The second strongest was the Gamecube in terms of power. Then the PS2 in third. Finally the Dreamcast.
In terms of game library, there's no question the PS2 destroyed the competition, and it also achieved some REALLY nice looking games. Still, in regards to horsepower, PS2 was weaker than both Xbox and Gamecube.
Yea I had an Xbox and I still enjoy it to this day, but I have to say that if I had it to do over again, I probably would have asked for a PS2. You could play PS1 games on it and it had the PS1 processor inside of it. I was more interested in sony first party games than anything nintendo or msoft had at the time.

6 in some aspects the dream cast outperformed the ps2.
7 the GameCube controller is considered one of the best of all time (not in my personal opinion tho it's great)
8The Dreamcast memory cards (VMU's) had many game mechanics built in like showing what player you are in sports games or it shows you're health in resident evil

No. It was also on Xbox as long as you had music files stored onto the HDD. The utilization was endless and it didn't stop with GTA but some games such as WWE Raw 2 used the music files as well for custom themes for character creation.

Well DC had a true operating system running in the background which somewhat smooth things out. and it WAS better in some areas AND it could also output VGA for a lot of games! But overall in terms of texture quality, polygons & shading PS2 was more powerful than DC.

I would agree the PS2 was definitely the vector king and could shunt vast numbers of polygons about for its day. Though in game numbers were a world away from the astronomically high numbers being claimed at the time. It could also make great use of lighting and shading due to having so much raw grunt. I would question the texture side of things though as texture fill rates is one thing the DC excelled at with substantially higher rates than the PS2. As long as your not adding alpha effects the DC could theoretically almost triple the texture rate of the PS2. The DCs higher fill rates for both both pixel and texture and is why people often go on about how sharp, crisp or colourful DC games looked. Though the PS2 often threw more polygons and or more lighting to adds more details rather than in the textures them self. Both systems were just better at different things but both did a great job for there time.

Did you say that the PS2 was more powerful than the Xbox? The PS2 was actually in 3rd seemingly tied with the Dreamcast. The Dreamcast and PS2 had various strengths, but landed on a similar playing field power wise. The GameCube comes in second for power however I have seen arguments stating that the GameCube is more powerful. I think it comes down to the person and what areas spec wise they are looking at. However Dreamcast/PS2 were behind GameCube/Xbox power wise. The PlayStation 2 got a quick hold on the majority of the market and took off from there by never letting the flow of solid games slow down.

Gamecube wasn't gimmicky. Just about its only peripheral was the Donkey Konga drums and that was a well liked game, aside from causing red hands. Gamecube was a superb mix of hardcore and easy to play. Its sales might be relatively disappointing but, considering how powerful the Xbox was, it did well. The PS2's sales were ludicrously high and indicated nothing of its merits compared to the competition other than that brand loyalty, an early DVD player, and an army of RPG fans worldwide, helps sales.

The Dreamcast was more powerful in the way that mattered: what ended up on the screen. It could put out better images. Having an engine that can go 100 MPH but a chassis that can only handle 20 MPH, it doesn't matter what the engine can do. The Dreamcast was more powerful.

There's actually a video that talks about what would happen if Nintendo and Sony were still on the same team. I talked about it with other users and they argued with me which was stupid. The main (if not the only) reason they argued about it was that there wouldn't be enough competition.

The only thing PS2 did better for RE4 was the disc size, PS2 version of RE4 was an inferior port to GCN but can fit one disc whereas GameCube version runs smoother and had better visual effect but needs to be on two discs.

Sega DreamCast is really a powerful console but because it was way too early in the store shelves now Sony Microsoft and Nintendo have reviewed the hardware and made more powerful hardware. This is the error of Sega being too early in the stores and their technology is too ahead for its generation where everybody doesn't have internet connection in their homes.
I love each of these consoles. I grew up mostly playing GameCube and PS2, but as I got older I really grew to appreciate the Dreamcast, and is my personal console now. I never really played the OG Xbox so I can’t say much about it, but hey each of them have their pros and cons. None of them are perfect, but hey they got some amazing games on each

I think the GameCube is really underrated. It has some of the best games ever made (Metroid Prime and it’s sequel, as well as Wind Waker) and one of the most fast-paced eSport games ever made (Smash bros, one of my personal favourite games). There was also the GBA link, and the amazing controller
Just the analog L/R buttons where amazing (which we now get to enjoy on XBOX as well), the analog face buttons on PS2 are a weird concept though but hey they're there and vastly unused in most titles (weird enough gta did use it for the X-button which was car acceleration ,_,).

As many others have already stated, the Xbox was, by far, the most powerful console at the time. Not even close. It was over 2x more powerful than the PS2 in every category including: memory, memory bandwidth, processor speed, gpu power and memory, and resolution. In addition the Xbox had a 10gig HD built in and a high speed Ethernet port, both of which were firsts amongst consoles. (Dreamcast also had the port I believe) The Xbox rivaled top end PC's at the time if that gives you any idea. The Xbox one version of GTA 3 still stands today as the best retail version of that game you can play. You also state the Xbox didn't have a DVD player, which is simply untrue. It was a far faster loading DVD player than the PS2 in reality. I bought both the PS2 and the Xbox on their launch days.

I always thought this generation was the most diverse. Each console had its own unique graphics and genres were tendered for specific gamers. For instance, enthusiastic gamers always went for xbox, gamecube had gamers who were new to gaming, and dreamcast had arcade gamers or pro gamers. The Ps2 had casual gamers. Realistically in the Graphics department, dreamcast beat gamecube in effects (bumpmapping, vga), xbox beat ps2 in effects as well. The polygon count was something like dc>gc>ps2>xbox.
This genre excelled mostly in its unique AAA titles. For instance I always thought no competitor could ever mimick shenmue for Dreamcast, star wars rogue squadron for GameCube, halo for Xbox or Metal gear solid 2 for PS2 due to the unique skills of the devs and hardware.

it was literally arcade ported home it was NAOMI. SEGA of Murica screwed over the market, the stores, and the general public. that being said Dreamcast running Windows CE meant you could burn isos of games in the year 2000. which made the situation worse. the hottest game of the decade.....Marvel vs Capcom 2 and Soul Caliber were perfect arcade ports! but nobody had confidence in the SEGA brand name due previous bad business decisions of 32x and Sega CD and Saturn. so yeah SEGA with its dumbass 2 year console cycle killed its only hope and its hardware division.
