Hey Guys! Clarification on the Vice City part of the video: Vice City on the PS2 originally released with a game breaking bug, that if you saved at the Cherry Poppers Ice Cream Company, there a good chance it will corrupt your save. Rockstar did fix this with future revision of the PS2 verison. This lead many people to have all of their progress gone hours into the game, simply by saving it. When i made the video, that save issue + comparing it to the OG Xbox port that released after was my rational behind it. Thank you for letting me know, as it only helps me improve and want to become better at making content! ❤ Here is the article that covers the glitch: screenrant.com/gta-vice-city-ice-cream-factory-save-glitch-corrupted/
Yup, and that wasn't the only save corrupting bug. I'm not sure how many there actually were but for the whole trilogy on PS2 I used to stack my saves, at least two for each game just in case. I played San Andreas on 360 some years later and had no save issues there but the backwards compatibility was sketchy at times, with a few graphical glitches.
He also called Half-Life on PS2 one of the worst ports ever made. Firstly it’s not even a port but rather a remaster and secondly it’s a solid remaster that works completely fine unless you’re so unhealthily obsessed with the original game that even the smallest change on the remaster triggers you.
@@majorgear1021 You could also connect it to your router and use DHCP, like I do. Hell, you could even use a portable router as well, if you really need to. Anything but USB.
C'mon, man. You're running your backups through the PS2's USB 1.1 speeds which are far slower than the disc drive. That explains the 3-minute loading times you kept complaining about, and the constant hitching in L.A. Rush. For realistic loading times you should burn your games to DVD-Rs in ESR format for use with FreeDVDBoot, or just use real copies. (Also consider cleaning the lens for this!)
Yeah the loading in L.A. Rush is probably a failsafe that doesn't happen in normal gameplay (AKA an actual disc on a good drive). Other open world games like NFS Most Wanted have it too, but you wouldn't ever trigger it normally unless you have an insanely scratched disc/bad drive or in this case use something super slow like USB 1.1. The alternative is having no backup loading screen which means the player will fall through the unloaded world (Starsky & Hutch has this).
@@takehirolol5962 I do this with my PS2 slim, and it works wonders. Specially because my modem can be configured to be a Samba server, and I stored my games in a usb hard drive connected to it

I was about to point that out as well and the only way to properly play PS2 games with a Mass storage device is to softmod it with a HHD/SSD for a phat PS2 that have a expansion bay slot for it. And even still there are some games you need to have certain settings on to get it running and working properly. I'm surprised that MAWK3 didn't even know the disadvantages of playing PS2 games via USB since I seen so many videos of explaining why it isn't a good experience to play PS2 games via USB drive, that's why I got myself a phat PS2 after I known about it.

Half-Life 1's PS2 port is pretty good, the only bad thing that i would say is some of the loading times between certain levels and the fact that Blue Shift & Opposing Force never came to PS2
Half Life PS2 was the version I first played through. Not bad for a port and you can use mouse and keyboard too. Wish it had Blue Shift and especially Opposing Force included as well.
I have some criticisms on this. - You went for the low hanging fruit. The graphics, of course if you put the PC version next to PS2 it is going to look better. - Don't use emulation when reviewing ports. Always use original hardware and physical discs. Free McBoot has issues. - COD World at war final fronts is more so different game than port.
@LampHatScott freemcboot is custom firmware. Opl is a program to run backups. You can run games through Ethernet SMB, Ethernet UDP, HDD, MX4sio. If you have ps2fat. Then HDD will be your best option. For slim, Ethernet is your best option, but it can have really slow speed open world games due to RAM bottleneck . That is why DVD is still the best option for slim. But if you don't mind rare fps drop-downs in usual games, then smb can be a very good option.
If you're running games off of a USB drive on a modded ps2 it's obvious you're gonna get way longer times than everyone else as they run over USB 1.0 Ps2 games that run from an HDD or DVD run and load almost alike
Ever played Crash Bandicoot Wrath of Cortex? It has loading screens as an exclusive PS2 feature. The GameCube and Xbox always loaded faster than it did. Same with the Saturn and PS3, it was harder to code for, so optimisation and load times suffered compared to other ports of their respective generations.
@@The_Prizessin_der_VerurteilungYeah, there were games with ridiculously long loading times. But you can't ignore the fact that running games from an USB stick on PS2 just makes it even worse. And god, trying to run games like GTA San Andreas (that constantly need to load a lot of stuff during gameplay) from an USB stick makes them almost unplayable. I wouldn't be surprised if the issue with loading screens during races in LA Rush would be caused by runnning the game from USB as similar issue occurs in NFS Most Wanted and NFS Carbon (when you are in a race parts of the map need a longer time to load, making the game hang up for a moment before the next part of a map loads).
The reason the PS2 version of RE4 didn't quite look as good as the Gamecube version had nothing to do with the extra content. It was simply due to the fact that the PS2 wasn't as powerful as the Gamecube. The textures were sharper on the Gamecube and therefore looked slightly better.
In fact the extra content, cost reduce and the short time to develop the game only 3 months were the reason, because devs fit the game in a normal DVD5, RE4 was supposed for a DVD9
@@mandibiedermann2246 probably but the gc was still significantly more powerful than the ps2 in all areas so miracles like them running the same wouldnt be possible but yea this port is pretty downgraded compared to the gc one
Vice City was literally built for PS2. The game suffers from a crapton of bugs on Xbox/PC like transparency issues, missing map props, GTA3 leftover assets and poorer audio quality. Just because the PS2 had interlaced image, doesn't make it a bad version. RE4 is another one that isn't bad, again, the GC (and Xbox) were much better at hiding jaggies due to the larger RAM that offered superior progressive scan image. The only other difference is color palette. Mafia is more of console VS PC as mentioned, rather than PS2 VS all other systems. The other games are correct. I'd say the games that suffered the most were the cross-gen licensed games, a lot of them were rebuilt for PS2 and Wii or just have straight up missing content when compared to the 360/PS3. They wanted to support the PS2 for long and after 2006 we really started seeing some stinkers.
Colors are off, the textures are blurry, the framerate isn't consistent, the audio is more compressed, you just blatantly ignore the missing effects, and the cutscenes are cinematics instead of in game and look worse as a result. Face it, you're in denial. RE4 was a bad port and the worst one at the time besides the original PC port, but at least that was moddable. "Mafia is more of console VS PC as mentioned, rather than PS2 VS all other systems." The purpose of this video isn't "PS2 VS all other consoles" it's just about PS2 ports of games that are worse. Which the PS2 version of that game is, even compared to the Xbox.
@@InkyBlitz Relax you're very stressed out. The textures are not blurrier, it's the different lighting that doesn't suit the game's artstyle. They did make the audio more crunchy though which is silly considering how much more storage the DVD disc has, a classic Capcom oversight. The Mafia port isn't any worse than the original Xbox version though unless you're talking about progressive scan support.
It was obviously inspired by John Woo movies and the Matrix but it didn't shoehorn in bullet time, it was built from the ground up with bullet time in mind.
I think RE4 port is not bad at all. I consider it a miracle, considering hardware limitations and the fact that they ran it on the Onimusha engine. The GC version is of course the best choice. Regarding Vice City, it's not a port but the first version that was published. Yes, it was blurry and the framerate was unstable but definitively not a port. Nice video as usual :)
The additional content was nice to! It was a common port that was mentioned in my research, but I honestly didn't think it was awful by any means. Thank you for clarifying that, somehow I completely missed that it originally launched on the PS2 😅 Thank you so much! 🙏
vice city on ps2 is the superior version and was the og release. while the ps2 didn't make it shine graphically like xbox and pc, the ported versions lost the better textures and even some animations and little things like that. v1/2 on ps2 were also the "controversial" versions. then we got the crappy hd mobile version and now that god awful demaster lol it's amazing how over the past 20 years this game has been slowly made worse and worse.
I remember playing res4 on ps2 on release and having a blast. I also remember gamecube owners beeing mad because at the time they thought it was going to be an all time exclusive of the console their tears were delicious
@@HikaruGunner Yeah, I barely remember the Nintendo fans going mad for this. This kind of fanboyism is not "healthy" since my opinion is that I'm happy when a good game is playable from every fan independently from the console. As far as I remember, there was a temporary exclusive agreement (not public) or some kind of contract based on the number of selling copies on the GC. Remembering this now, I'm laughing considering that the OG RE4 is available for almost existing platform.
Funny to have 3/4 of the actual gameplay ripped from other channels, then proceed to give completely brain dead opinions over most the games. RUclips in a nutshell these days.
RE4 had a notable drop in quality on PS2 but it’s not one of the worst ports and neither are Vice City or HL1 on PS2. He also is emulating these games which makes them not run as smoothly.
I played the RE4 port on a CRT back in the day, so the roughness of the port went under the radar, but surprisingly a good amount of the original quality was squeezed in with the limitations the PS2 had.
It’s not perfect but it’s still good. Most of the haters of it are just salty about the change and it’s mostly hatred for the sake of it. This guy couldn’t be bothered to explain why he thought it was “garbage” as if it’s somehow a bad game by default just for having some differences from the original game.

@@TeHbTeHb that all makes sense although it's not representative of the original intended ps2 experience, in which case there's a chance that this vid is misleading
Calling RE4 a bad port is so laughable. Interestingly Scarface for PS2 is the best version, despite Xbox and PC having "HD" versions. One of the few titles impossible to emulate on a PS3.
The Sonic games got the short end of the stick when it comes to PS2 ports. It's clear that SEGA was prioritizing the Nintendo platforms more, and taking advantage of Xbox's power, with the PS2 feeling like they put it there just because the platform is popular. But damn, as someone who grew up playing on PS2 (family PC is not really suitable for gaming, struggling to even run PS2-era games, up until like 2017), I am thankful for the series being on the PS2 for so long that I was able to play a lot of the games.
Great video but I will not stand by this RE4 PS2 slander. Yes it had the extra content like you mentioned, but also it played just as good as the GC version. And the fact that they were able to make it happen at all is a miracle. I honestly couldn't care less if the visuals took a hit. Also, I wasn't aware Mercenaries 2 released on PS2, I need to track that one down! That looks like some goooood garbo!! One last thing, do Xbox next! (if you haven't already)
I'd love to do the 360 next as well as covering cross gen 360 releases! Ports like Titanfall and Rise of the Tomb Raider really pushed the hardware and still hold up well even to this day. Thanks for stopping by and watching my video Derek! I've been watching your videos for years now. I really enjoy your punching weight series 😁
Mercenaries 2 on the PS2 is not a great port, but it's better than he's giving it credit for. I bought it back when it first released, and I can confirm the FMV cutscene issues, for example, are not present when it's played via the disc. It makes a lot of concessions due to hardware limits, but I think the team who ported it did about as well as could be expected. Definitely worth a play for the "I can't believe they did that!" factor. :)

QTEs on the PS2 were horrible, so no, it did not play the same as the GC version. It almost felt like the game froze on you every time you saw the inputs appear on screen.
Star Trek: Elite Force gets progressively worse as you play. The Borg mission at the beginning is the best performing in the entire game. Keep playing to the last level with all the Harvesters rushing you the frame rate tanks to PowerPoint levels of animation.
My first experience of Max Payne 1 and 2 were on the PS2 and it wasn't till much later I got to enjoy the PC originals. In 2 on the PS2 there is a cutscene were Max jumps out of a building and he grabs hold of a rail but he doesn't even grab hold of the rail instead clips through it a bit. I'm also pretty sure PS2 magazines used images from the 360 version of Just Cause as I remembered seeing it advertised for it, thinking it looked really nice then being disappointed.
I had only ever played the PS2 version of Max Payne and randomly one day I was at a friend's house and noticed a copy of Max Payne for the PC he had. I mentioned it and he said I could have have it because his PC couldn't run it. Played the hell out of that copy after that, thank you childhood friend.
I still say the Wii version of RE4 was the best version of the game. They put a lot of effort into getting the motion controls to work and not just be a gimmick. It was SO fluid!
You keep saying "much more blurrier" and "much more harder". You realize this isn't grammatically correct right? You just say "blurrier" not "more blurrier", it's already a comparative statement. Think of it like a double negative, only sort of reversed. You could also say "more blurry", by returning "blurrier" to it's non-comparative form. But both words can't be comparative. I'm only saying this because you said this phrase about 4-5 times in the video and I'm only halfway through. *Just something to remember.*
I really appreciate you telling me this, as I didn't pick up on it when I originally made the video. Since this was releaded, I've given myself more time in post editing to catch double negatives and reduce the amount of repeat words to.

RE4 is in no way a bad port. It is an inferior port to the GameCube version, but there was never a scenario in which the PS2 could have matched the GameCube version. Anyone who calls it a bad port is probably too young to have experienced it in its own time, and are speaking wholly without context.

Great job with the rest of the video tho. Now I want to play some of those games again but in their best version to see what did I miss. I played Mercenaries 2, totally disappointed when I saw how different were the other versions.
this is a cool video series but calling a lot of these ports "bad" is disingenuous. like yeah, of course RE4, the CoD games, and Just Cause look worse than the Gamecube and Xbox versions, and that's because the GC and Xbox are way more powerful in just about every way with several exceptions.
It seems both PS2 & PS3 owners got a short end of the stick when I came to call of duty 3 as neither versions ran well. I recently saw digital foundry put up a video where they tried to play call of duty 3 on the PS3 at 1080p and it was a complete disaster. It was no wonder that I didn't like the game when I first played as I was constantly getting headaches I just had to stop playing altogether.
Click bait title. Alot of these games pushed PS2 hard. The PS2 port of RE4 for example was an incredible achievement how close it got considering GCN was more powerful.
The original version of Resident Evil 4 for PC was so bad that when I tried the PS2 version felt like a massive improvement. Like, the game was actually playable and the controls worked! I mean yeah, compared to the Gamecube it's an inferior version from a technical point of view but for PS2 standards it runs perfectly. Sadly my PS2 died along the way and never managed to finish it there, pretty sad because I was having a great time. I'm gonna blame Metal Gear 2/3 and their long ass never ending cutscenes for that.
Spiderman 3 slander won't be taken lightly! Funny that RE4 is probably my most played ps2 game, I've beaten Leon's campaign 15 times and Ada's 4-5 times, Great extras like the Mercenaries and the short but still fun Assignment Ada, They make RE4 PS2 a superior experience over Gamecube version. The GC original has those. It’s only missing SW. The PS2 port is objectively the worst version, aside from the initial PC vanilla release. (The iPhone and Zeebo versions don’t count because those are demakes, not ports).
@@menoseloso119 My bad on that, Thanks for the correction, I'd still prefer playing on PS2 just for the sake of extra unlockables (Costumes and P.R.L Handcannon) and Separate Ways, It's not pretty at all, and sound quality is bad but i still love it, I wonder why the PS2 ended up like that, for example, the compressed music which is weird considering a PS2 having 4.7GB dvds vs Gamecube's mini discs, I know PS2 is the weakest of the 6th gen consoles but i feel like Shinji Mikami's hatred for a port to the PS2 might've had something to do with the port's quality? @TheDudeWithNoName technically RE4 Wii edition is the best Standard Definition version with the graphics, high framerate of the GameCube version, separate ways, and the addition of a very accurate IR pointer control option for aiming and regular controller support as well
@@dandrawsit4915 I've played the game on Wii and you're correct, Only issue i had with it is that you have to stick out your arm for accurate shots and if you're playing for too long it will put a decent amount of strain on your arm, Sadly, I didn't have a standard controller but that would've made it more comfortable for sure.

It’s not as good as pointer controls, but it’d be something.
Re4 on the PS2 gets an easy pass for me because it was the first time we saw the “DLC”. But when it comes to RE4 en general, the Wii version is easily the best port for me!
Here’s two poor PS2 ports I have. Sonic Unleashed: While not as sloppily made port like the PS2 ports of Sonic Heroes and Shadow the Hedgehog and certainly is at best playable, it still leaves a lot to be desired. It is a direct port of the Nintendo Wii version and oh boy. The graphics looked horrendous to the point where it looks worse than the original Dreamcast version of Sonic Adventure from a decade prior, the compression on the pre rendered cutscenes looked noticeable, the load times can get quite long and the game doesn’t even have 16:9 widescreen support. In 2008 where Widescreen TVs were becoming the norm. If you can look past those faults, then the PS2 port of Sonic Unleashed is at best playable. But at the same time, there’s much better options to play the game. Secret Agent Clank: I’ve never played the PS2 ports of both Ratchet & Clank Size Matters and Jak & Daxter The Lost Frontier so I can’t really comment. I have played Secret Agent Clank on PS2 and oh boy it was a mess. The load times are so horrendous that they can almost be as bad as Sonic 06’s load times as they came take up to around 30 seconds and they happen when you boot up the game, load your save file and select a level. The compression on the Pre Rendered cutscenes was also a joke as the audio sounded muffled and the pixelisation was atrocious. Not only that, but I recall some glitches in the game. Yeah just stay well away from this horrid port. It’s a shame that although Ratchet & Clank helped make the PlayStation 2 a household name, their last outing on the system went out on such a sour note.
It's unfair to call PS2 ports bad because of graphics and sounds. Lack of content and the game being unstable, understandable. Visuals not being pretty is a bad reason. Half-Life on the PS2 is not a bad port by the way.
How is double agent a "demake" on the previous Gen hardware? Ubisoft made version 1 for PS3/360 and version 2 for Ps2/xbox/GC. I played both and theyre quite a bit different from each other. Vice city is not a port as the PS2 was the first system the game was released on. And RE4 may be inferior to the GC version but it was still loads of fun. Good vid though.
Great video! The biggest crime of the mafia port for the ps2 is that it was used as the basis for the Xbox port as well. Regardless how anyone might feel about the og Xbox, it was capable of way more than the ps2, technically.
the worst Playstation Port I have every played is "No one lives Forever" that game is near impossible to play. The visuals look garbage and don't get me started on the wawful controls
Good video, but RE4 is a great port, and all the ports mentioned in the "honorable mentions" sections are fucking amazing (especially Half-Life on PS2). And Vice City on PS2 was the first version made for it. Just delete the segment for RE4 and the Honorable Mentions section and you're golden.
I mean, the fact that RE4 was watered down is just facts. Just cause you cant except tue reality of these games doesnt mean he has to remove anything from his video. Put the effort into making your own video and n you are golden.
There is actually one really really bad port in the Honorable Mentions section, Sonic Heroes (PS2 version is just so f*cking bad, play the GameCube or OG Xbox versions instead) I'd also say most PS2 ports of Sega games are bad, Super Monkey Ball Deluxe on the PS2 really is a horrible abomination, poor framerates and freezing in the level select screen (Again, Deluxe on the OG Xbox is much much better and so are the original two GameCube games) And also Half Life 1 on PS2 is actually one of the better PS2 ports lol. If you want a bad console port of a Half Life game, check out Half Life 2 for the OG Xbox.
@@krono5el While Half Life on PS2 isn't as good as it is on PC (As long as you stay away from Half Life Source), it's actually a great port for what it is, the real worst version of Half Life is the Dreamcast version and that version never officially released.

Spider-Man 3 is not a shitty movie. It wasn't great but it was far from shitty. Then you use PC Spidey 3 and compared it to PS2 when they aren't even the same game. This video is shit and that alone proves it.
I would argue that Project 8 on PS2 actually benefited from being on the THUG2 engine. It looks and feels more like a Tony Hawk game than anything after it. A decent one for that matter!
I remember playing many of these titles from video on PS2, and many of these games were released when Xbox 360, and PS3 was presented on market. So, many of these ports actually pretty decent, when you consider how old PS2 hardware was in 2007-2009. To compare Crysis released in 2007.

Resident Evil 4 on PS2 was a bit of a miracle port given how closely it matched the Gamecube version, especially given how it was tailor made for Nintendo's hardware. The same would apply to Just Cause and Splinter Cell, since these worked to the strengths of top-end PC hardware of the era, the fact that either are on PS2 is amazing to consider. I wouldn't give Deus Ex on PS2 a hardtime either since it is a complex PC game being compacted onto a machine with barely any RAM. The loading times and performance can be disappointing but Deus Ex is still well worthwhile on PS2 due to the scale of the world and writing in general. LA Rush, nor Rocky, were ports, they were simply rushed to market so played glitchy as a result. Spider-Man 3 and Call of Duty 3 were just disappointing games. Mafia, Max Payne 1 and 2 all deserved better PlayStation 2 conversions. Fun fact about Wipeout Pulse: It is a European-only PS2 port, and sells for crazy money now. I never knew it had a memory card breaking bug though, I remember Jak X having something similar and that was enough to put me off playing it. Your issue with FMVs on Mercenaries 2 is purely memory stick related. The read/write rates are not very fast via USB on PS2.

I was really surprised to see Grand Theft Auto: Vice City mentioned considering that not only is the Playstation 2 version the best out of all versions because it has the most licensed music before songs started getting removed in future releases, but also because the game literally launched exclusively for the Playstation 2 back in the day. Half-Life for PS2 was also pretty solid, but the audio quality was really bad for some reason. Honestly the games I thought has the worst Playstation 2 ports were all of the Guitar Hero games from World Tour onwards. The series started on PS2 and looked great even when Guitar Hero III and Aerosmith were mainly created for next gen consoles. I don't know wtf happened with World Tour onwards, but those PS2 ports were *rough*
Dude... You complained about the loading times and you're using the WORST possible way to play these games! USB loading is trash and you're limited to USB 1.1! If you're playing on a fat PS2, get a network adapter and put a HDD in there! If you're playing on a Slim PS2 either network load your games or use a MX4SIO, you're gonna see way better load times. Your Mercenaries 2 footage shows why USB devices sucks for loading PS2 games unless they're simple like DDR for example.
LA Rush was a horrible game in general when it came to performance, every LA Rush port has horrible glitches and performance. But the game itself isn’t actually bad it just lacks to many features like cat customization 😢 Edit: The reason project 8 had no online on PS3 was because when the ps3 came out you couldn’t connect online until the PSN update
I remember back when I was in high school my friend talked me into buying RE4 on PS2. I played it for 5 minutes and felt motion sick and couldn't get the hang of the controls so rather than returning it, I just left it on the shelf to collect dust. Probably 6 or so years later, I had watched my brother playing the remaster and I was actually getting into it watching him. Decided to say fuck it and give it another shot. I played through 2 or 3 chapters then bought it on PS4. What an amazing game man, honestly. My friend was right.
I know it was just an Honorable mention but I just wanted to say Half Life on ps2 is rough but I would argue that its still a really enjoyable experience and offers a unique way to play half life since the ps2 has a lot of differences from the pc version
According to Critical Nobody Double Agent on PS2 is actually pretty good and way better than the other PS2 versions which had a lot of cut content, I actually prefer that version over the next gen one, especially the PC port which is completely broken
Ive played re4 countless times on many platforms (as have millions). Ps2 version is fucking great. Then again, this guy thinks a game that was developed specifically for ps2 hardware is a "port"...
spider-man 3 on the ps2 may have bad graphics, but so does the ps3 version, plus the web swinging on the ps3 version looks like it is constantly holding the player back, while the ps2 port have a similar (but not exactly the same) web swinging mechanic to the second game I much prefer play the ps2 port anyday than the ps3 port
"Based on that shitty Sam Raimi movie from 2007". What exactly is so shitty about it? There's worse movies out there. Also, I don't think the SC DA PS2 port is as bad as you described, it's at least more playable than Max Payne 1.
Resident Evil 4 was better on GC, but I still had fun playing the PS2 port. The extra content was worth a buy. I'm more disappointed we didn't get an original Xbox port of RE4. Half Life PS2 was a good port. Shame we never got Opposing Force and Blue Shift on PS2 or consoles in general. I think the PS2 port of Return to Castle Wolfenstein wasn't as good as the Xbox version and the pc original.
Not only did you have GTA Vice City, which wasn’t a port, on this list, but you also refer to Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man as “shitty”. I wish I could give more than 1 thumbs down.
To say resident evil four is a bad port is wild. It’s a little inferior to the GameCube version but it’s still an amazing game on ps2 and there’s honestly nothing wrong with it. That’s definitely a bad take. I think you’re mistaking the word bad for inferior. There’s nothing bad about that game. In fact, a lot of the games on your list, while not being as good as the original, are still really good ports not bad in the least.
My first experience of RE4 was on PS2, not gonna lie, and it was still one of the best games I've played at that generation, but I'd still prefer the PS4 version over any of them for clearer visuals, bettter framerate and all. As for Max Payne games, I'd rather stick with the PC versions just for the sole reason of having the ability to quick-save.
waw for the ps2 isn’t a port of the 7th generation of waw, thus the name “call of duty waw:final fronts” that’s why it seemingly has cut features because it’s a completely different game not meant to mirror 7th gen waw besides its time period.
Aside from the cross generation releases like Mercenaries 2, LA RUSH and Just Case, all other games are decent considering the context of release. You mention that the PC version run better, of course it does, but would require a PC that cost 4 to 5 times the price of a PS2. Also, the low resolution and interlancing of the PS2 version does not look bad on a CRT TV of the time. Therefore, these comparisons are unfair.
Yeah, a lot of the games just didnt age that good but where perfectly fine when they came out. The difference between console and pc was also bigger than it is today
One of the problems with this guy's video is he's confusing the words port and version. A port is a game that was designed for one platform and then later released on another platform usually by another studio. Just because a game comes out on multiple platforms doesn't make it a port.
Spiderman 3 on PS2 is pretty bad besides Morphieus and Shriek and the way you switch suits. The PS3 / 360 version may have looked ugly in graphics too but it has 18 more missions and it actually had downtown Manhattan while the PS2 version was too lazy to even have it.
Hey Guys! Clarification on the Vice City part of the video:
Vice City on the PS2 originally released with a game breaking bug, that if you saved at the Cherry Poppers Ice Cream Company, there a good chance it will corrupt your save.
Here is the article that covers the glitch:

That's good to know I'll never save at that location
hello there I have a question for you which one is easier to do (Aand which one is better) jtag or rgh?
You're right, I was going to correct the other comment but seen your pinned
Yup, and that wasn't the only save corrupting bug. I'm not sure how many there actually were but for the whole trilogy on PS2 I used to stack my saves, at least two for each game just in case. I played San Andreas on 360 some years later and had no save issues there but the backwards compatibility was sketchy at times, with a few graphical glitches.
The thing is Vice City isn't even a port....it was made for the PS2 and ported to PC and Xbox
If you evee feel useless remember this dude played PS2 backups from a 1.1 USB and blamed the game for having awful load times 💀💀
Not everyone can afford those fancy DVD doo-hicky thingamajigs!
He also called Half-Life on PS2 one of the worst ports ever made. Firstly it’s not even a port but rather a remaster and secondly it’s a solid remaster that works completely fine unless you’re so unhealthily obsessed with the original game that even the smallest change on the remaster triggers you.

Yeah it annoyed me too if you're going to run digital backups then a phat ps2 and network adapter are the way
Yeah the loading in L.A.

@@ВладимирГалицкий-х8цMX4SIO is also great for slim systems. I tried playing games using the DVD method and it burnt my laser.
If you're running games off of a USB drive on a modded ps2 it's obvious you're gonna get way longer times than everyone else as they run over USB 1.0
Ps2 games that run from an HDD or DVD run and load almost alike

@@jessesalinas8534but it was pretty amazing for the time. People said that HL wouldn’t even run on the PS2
"Mafia is more of console VS PC as mentioned, rather than PS2 VS all other systems."
The purpose of this video isn't "PS2 VS all other consoles" it's just about PS2 ports of games that are worse.

The PS2 was noticeably less powerful than the GameCube which is why the Sonic games looked and ran worse on PS2

Edit: My bad, Seems like everything but Separate Ways are included in the Gamecube version but to me, It feels like It's a worthy enough addition that puts the game a tiny bit higher than the Gamecube version, But i will say it is the worst of the bunch when it comes to all the other real & definitive version ports of the game.
Probably not lol.
@@dandrawsit4915 maaaaan, the Wii version is so good; I wish they implemented gyro controls on future releases of RE4 like they did with RE5, 6, Revs 1&2 for the Switch (I know Rev1 on 3DS already had gyro controls, so I find its absence on other consoles that support gyro so bizarre). It’s not as good as pointer controls, but it’d be something.
Bro Spider-Man 3 was definitely not shitty
Oh it was. Horrible game.
@@dredd1987Nah it was actually decent
@@borttheattorney6012 maybe on the Xbox and PC...
I agree, bro. I love Spiderman 3, the movie and the game 🙌🏻
I’ll say it’s more tolerable than the movie
Making this video was a mistake...
I will never ever be able to hear the phrase "life cycle" without thinking of Goldman from House Of The Dead 2;
to protect the LOIF cycle
There is actually one really really bad port in the Honorable Mentions section, Sonic Heroes (PS2 version is just so f*cking bad, play the GameCube or OG Xbox versions instead)
I'd also say most PS2 ports of Sega games are bad, Super Monkey Ball Deluxe on the PS2 really is a horrible abomination, poor framerates and freezing in the level select screen (Again, Deluxe on the OG Xbox is much much better and so are the original two GameCube games)
And also Half Life 1 on PS2 is actually one of the better PS2 ports lol. If you want a bad console port of a Half Life game, check out Half Life 2 for the OG Xbox.
@@BrawlinEntertaintment2K Half Life on PS2 is the GOAT! I gotta make a vid on it sometime! 👍
they are all the worst versions still tho
@@krono5el While Half Life on PS2 isn't as good as it is on PC (As long as you stay away from Half Life Source), it's actually a great port for what it is, the real worst version of Half Life is the Dreamcast version and that version never officially released.
Great video. Just one small nitpick: the og version is not called a port. It’s just the original. It’s a minor quibble but it bugs me a little all the same.
HL1 is amazing on ps2, it even has better models than the og pc version and runs on 60fps most of the time lol And dont forget Decay... sheesh
Great port but it doesn't run in 60 most if the time. It targets 60 but stays well below that most of the time. It even dips to low 30s in demanding sequences.
it doesnt run at 60 at all the fps is variable 30-60fps constantly
@@xtr.7662 still I don't see it as a bad port, in many ways it's better than the pc version
@@ajsingh4545How’s it a port? It has a new and improved graphical engine along with an additional campaign. Red Dead Redemption on the PS4 is just a port as it’s the exact same as the original but with even less content.
@@lukeskinwalker922 i agree with you, it's literally a PS2 exclusive expansion pack
Have played ps2 deus ex recently for a couple hours honestly it really wasn't that bad. Yes its more simplified than the pc original but i think its for the better
Also you forgot age of empires 2 that was one of the worst things I have ever experienced, I know rts games don't tend to work with a controller but that was special
It's a great port in emulation bevause the frame rate is locked and it has out of the box controller support whereas PC game does not. Plus you can increase the resolution too in emu
@@ajsingh4545 yep controller support is massive, you don't have to press fucking brackets and semicolons to do basic tasks lmao
@@james-ch looooool.Freaking pc gaming man. It's like they want us to get a sprained finger having to stretch it across the keyboard.
Im sorry but the RE4 for the PS2 was in no way shape or form a "bad" port. Especially with the added content
Yup funny enough it's actually slower than reading discs if you're going to run OPL on a ps2 it's always better use the hard drive bay with a network adapter
How many games are you running from the USB that could be a factor in loading
You have to give credit to Half-Life PS2 that the rock textures and the character models look nicer than they do in the PC version.
On the back of the case, it states that there were new and improved textures and models of certain items. It's a great way to play the game.
People really still be thinking spider man 3 is a bad movie lmao
there are different opinions, but regardeless the director of the movie himself said that the movie was shit because sony wanted the movie to feature venom
while he wanted to focus on the Sandman story + end Harry's story
Imo it's better than spiderman 2
@@stefanoartuso001 that’s awesome!
Cause it is, literally two plots forced together badly because of studio interference. Cope, you have bad taste.
Call of Duty WaW Final Fronts is a completely different game, worth playing for that campaign on a PS2 - Just found it thrifting!
It’s actually great if you can look past the 20 year old graphics! Also adds more context to the next gen waw story. Like miller and roebuck if I remember correctly
@dennis2478 I recently replayed it on a crt and pretty amazing how crisp the graphics were. I think alot of people are discovering this game and playing it on modern displays giving it a much worse look I enjoyed my time with it, albeit the game is short and nothing to do afterwards
@@matcam89 ya just gotta accept it for what it is.. an old game. If you can look past that, a lot of games are still enjoyable. Just understand the tech of the time. Like yeah it’s not an all time great but who cares
@@matcam89 and yes modern displays kill games. I have a whole old school setup for my ps2 with those old box tvs and what not. Kinda adds to it imo too.
@dennis2478 I would of loved to see a zombies mode in this game I mean they did it on DS and Wii lol
The port of Psychonauts on PS2 was really bad
The Xbox and PC versions ran fine, but the PS2 version had really choppy frame rates that made it seem like your disc was scratched
Spider-man 3 is the best movie ever, you just weren't ready for it.
“You can dump your ass” is now my favorite way to say take a shit thank you, subscribed.😂
LA Rush was a horrible game in general when it came to performance, every LA Rush port has horrible glitches and performance. But the game itself isn’t actually bad it just lacks to many features like cat customization 😢
Edit: The reason project 8 had no online on PS3 was because when the ps3 came out you couldn’t connect online until the PSN update
Vice City, Splinter Cell and Ghost Recon are bad games on the Ps2.. Hell naw I can't even.. Blasphemy
>Shitty Raimi Movie

bruh whats wrong with you
Splinter Cell Chaos Theory is also awful on the ps2. Downgrades to graphics, game modes, map size, etc. The Xbox or PC version are the way to play it
I remember back when I was in high school my friend talked me into buying RE4 on PS2.

Ive played re4 countless times on many platforms (as have millions). Ps2 version is fucking great. Then again, this guy thinks a game that was developed specifically for ps2 hardware is a "port"...
Lmao
spider-man 3 on the ps2 may have bad graphics, but so does the ps3 version, plus the web swinging on the ps3 version looks like it is constantly holding the player back, while the ps2 port have a similar (but not exactly the same) web swinging mechanic to the second game
I much prefer play the ps2 port anyday than the ps3 port
World at war on PS2 is not a port, it s another game
This MF believe he is going to get PS5 graphics on a F PS2 this is laughable
the ps2 version of gta is amazing.Whatever you do avoid the new triology.
Literally Vice City was developed for being played on PS2 So it is normal that is the best version
As for Max Payne games, I'd rather stick with the PC versions just for the sole reason of having the ability to quick-save.
you can quick save on the xbox versions too
No best game, no just no
waw for the ps2 isn’t a port of the 7th generation of waw, thus the name “call of duty waw:final fronts” that’s why it seemingly has cut features because it’s a completely different game not meant to mirror 7th gen waw besides its time period.
Just because a game comes out on multiple platforms doesn't make it a port.
the bad ps2 ports I know of are Godzilla save the earth, rampage total destruction and Godzilla Unleashed
Rampage is bad? Darn. I just downloaded , I mean.. purchased it, for my ps2.
Did you call Spiderman 3 shitty? take that back
the guy is a troll it's obvious attention seeking at this point.
