I actually really enjoyed this video for some of the documentation on the game mechanics since I never got to play them. Call of Duty 3's class system like revives and calling air-strikes alongside the in-round levelling system is hugely reminiscent of 2003's Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory, like damn near identical. PC was still the main way to play online games upon CoD 3's release and it was console exclusive. Even if it wasn't it'd have to go toe to toe with at least a dozen MP PC games still in their prime like Battlefield, Wolfenstein, Quake 3, Medal of Honor, Tribes, and more. Poor CoD 3 had no chance lol. FEAR is also interesting to me. I find it odd the weapons menu is buried so deep considering it came out in 2005. By that point shooters had come up with so many different ways of having good, quick, and functional methods of selection loadout kits, however primitive they might be by todays standards. Especially since its Monolith who have always been really innovative developers, it seems really out of character for them. Apparently the slow-motion gamemode was also a post release addition, so I guess that explains why it feels like a gimmick. Shame too because integrating it as a powerup or larger mechanic like in The Specialists and Max Payne 3 into core gameplay I think works really well; moving fast blowing away the chumps running through glue for a few moments. Its also cool seeing how goofy MGO2 is, I only got to play MGO3 and it had a similar playerbase that alternated between being really goofy and absolutely tearing you to shreds. I remember matches where half the server would be screwing around in a corner throwing magazines at eachothers heads to KO one another before the gigachad zips in and obliterates us.
