Thanks for taking a look at MGO1, that project has been my baby since I started it back in 2008 after being disappointed with MGO2. Even when the original MGO1 was online it was no where near as popular as other games of the time, so its not surprising that the SaveMGO server has only a few players, but as I've poured so much of my life and time into its development I appreciate the shout-outs when we get them.
Dude, you're an absolute legend. Thank you so much for your hardwork and dedication towards the MGO community. I really hope it brings more people to the OG, as it is an experience unlike any other online game on the PS2. Thank you again 🙏
when MGO1 was online originally I landed in the top 10 scoreboard during the launch period and it was truly a time to be alive. Thanks for SaveMGO I just wish I could convince my friends to join me.
To be fair the PC version of the game which came first had a lot less. The PS2 version came like 2 years later and by that time I think the game on PC had an expansion pack and had been releasing maps steadily. So the PS2 version basically got all of them. I do think some are exclusive to the console versions as they are smaller than the PC maps. The PS2 version was basically the complete edition too bad the graphics are way worse than the PC version. Still awesome though. This was right before maps started being sold as DLC. I remember the first Battlefield game had free maps that were released sporadically, still "expansion" packs were still a thing and basically just DLC.
It's not really crazy, that was pretty much the norm before DLC and publishers realizing that gamers can be milked like cows for everything (altough to be fair, that practice existed in the 90's as well, the prime example is Links, the earliest example of milking a user base to the extreme), altough granted a lot of games back in the PS1/PS2 era (or any console in between, especially the Dreamcast) also suffered from "Arcade Port"-Syndrome, meaning it was just a arcade game ported to console being sold for full price offering maybe 25 minutes of gameplay, like all the racing games with only 3 tracks (Ridge Racer for example) or games like House of the Dead (all of them) which can be finished in less than an hour and so on.
To me visiting these old lobbies or servers is an eerie nostalgia. These games we used to play had so much activity and traffic that created friendships and memories… to revisit these vacant, adbandoned servers is nothing short but of emotional to me. You can almost hear the chatter and innocence of being young and gaming your ass off😢
We were kids in one of the best times of history for ignorance and adults in one of the worst for self-actualization. I'd give anything for that carefree bliss back.
There's something almost haunting about long forgotten game lobbies, it's kinda creepy and nostalgic at the same time. I never had access to the online features of the PS2 but I can imagine it was amazing! Great video, subscribed :)
Yea me neither, only played solo up until getting a PS3 in 2008 I started playing online. These abandoned PS2 game lobbies and others feel that lonely haunted energy, vibes and frequencies or sometimes just lonely feel lol would have been cool to game online back then like Socom PS2 etc
Fun fact! FIFA14 was the last PS2 game to be made. They were seriously making video games for the PS2 all the way up to 2014, and I believe several were slated to drop in 2015 but by the time the games would have come out the odds anyone buying them for PS2 were so astronomically low that it wasn't worth taking the shot. Let that marinate a minute. A console made in the year 2000 had games being developed for it for *FOURTEEN YEARS*
There’s something about the PS2 and it’s games that just feels so different from the current gaming market. Half the time i’d rather revisit these older consoles over the PS5, Xbox series and Switch.
Back when gaming was fucking good and actually wurth buying the home consoles and the games now days its just a waste of money to chuck money on the newer consoles and games. Theirs lettorly no support for the newer games and consoles. If their was support for the newer games and consoles games would still be just as good if not better then back in the day
When mgs5tpp episode and ruffly when the slim and pro came to launch thats when gaming fell off. But when the normal ps4 launched thats when gaming became hardcore mainstream fucking mainstream is what fucked it up dude
No joke. I've been addicted to getting suppeer baked and playing old games. I can immerse myself and get lost like when I was a kid. But I can't do that with the newer games like 2018 and up. No idea why. The other day I played stubbz the zombie that was made on the engine halo 1 used. And had SOOO much fun. I think being baked slows your thinking. So all you can focus on really is just the world your playing in. Like a kid
Gamespy, I almost cried. Thank you, Gamespy, for all of the memories. I’ve got a third of video left so I’m sure I won’t see the SVR 06/07 games I crave. However, thank you for visiting the games you did… especially Socom. I’m Hoping you play Medal of Honor Heroes… Mercenaries was amazing too
Socom was the first FPS game I played in a COD setting besides MOH on PSP, it was the first game I utilized a headset in… where, ironically, I got to play with older guys either for fun or seriously & learnt about life as I didn’t have my dad or a strong male figure. I got to listen to these 25+ yr old guys had to say about life feeling like I’d never be their age and not understanding a damn thing about life they were actually talking about. Now here I am, experiencing life and trying to warn young kids who have no idea what I’m talking about either. That’s our cycle as men, and the few girls that tag along and experience this with us all. I appreciate it and hold the memories so dear, I hope you all minus the home life experiences you all may or may not have endured have enjoyed the ride as well.
Hey bro! Amazing know was you in my EVIL clan training in Call of Duty 3! I was EVIL LACORTE. We play every week, we are just one of the few last clans remaining in PS2 online... I'm a tester of PS2 online games too, have almost all games videos in my channel. Thanks for playing with us! Cheers from Brazil!
No offense, but I don't get why anyone would play the PS2 version when this is on both the PS3 and 360 and the servers are still up. Those versions are better in pretty much every single way as far as I am aware.
I used to play CoD 3 online every single day. I couldn't afford a PS3 and all my friends were playing World at War and Modern Warfare 2 and I had to get my fix as best I could. Used to run around "quickscoping" with the Springfield rifle... Great memories, thanks for the trip down memory lane
One of my buddies and I still talk about a sick sniper kill I had once with the Springfield in CoD3 on someone getting into a tank. Hard to believe that was like 20 years ago now. Great memories.
This is so great to see my high school online days again. My lineup was always RE Outbreak File 1 & 2, SOCOM 2, MGS3 Subsistence, Tony Hawk (whichever one came out that year), and Call of Duty 1 😂 I also miss Hot Shots Golf Fore!
Maaan you just earned yourself an easy sub! All it took was your comment about Socom. That was my very first game that introduced me to the online gaming world and, in my opinion, was the perfect game to enter in with. It was seriously ahead of it’s time. It was a different type of feel while gaming back then. Something that majority of games, today, struggle to deliver. Awesome video and when i see Delta Force Black Hawk Down the game its aweosme on story and i need to replay again the mission you need to try the game too on pc version and see how great its the game even the game Delta Force Land Warrior from 1999 i think and yes its out now another studio make remake of the game you show on this video and its call Delta Force OPS its a remake of Delta Force Black Hawk Down from 2003
@@wussup12345He meant in the sense that they would have some type of popularity amongst the community of gamers - they are unknown so having little to no players to play with you, it's as if it's non-existent
I remember playing it a ton when I was younger, the proximity based audio was something that wasn’t done otherwise at the time I think. One of the friend groups I made in there (we were a clan called «500») we got together and started playing hide and seek from our clan leader but staying on the same team so he could hear us if he was nearby. One time we heard him go “I can hear youuuu” and we’re both like “OH NO!!!”
Finest Hour was my shit. Though I did get stuck on the fourth Russian mission for like 2 years or something stupid like that. I just could never protect those damn doors long enough.
This is this first time I’ve seen your channel and you covered all the games I put the most time into as a kid. We only had dial up internet because we lived way out in the country so I could only play the single player but I still loved these games
Love these videos! Recently got a PS2 and a CRT and I've been reviving some classics. Online sounds super cool, as back in the day I only ever played online on PC (console online felt like black magic).
Might be worth mentioning that Socom 2 still has a massive player base. You can see 100+ players online on the weekends and 50+ during the week. Combined assault isn’t far behind it, averaging 30-50 players a night
thanks for the ride ;) i remember using games differently too back in the days, having fun with likeminded fellas just for the sake of it, thanks so much for the time travel & keep it up!!!
the hang out lobby MGO reminded me of FTB2 on the PsP, we used to chill in FFA lobbies just doing glitch parkour across the roofs and hanging out. good times with some fun people.
Splinter Cell online is complicated for noobs because there's a few regulars and when you get really good at Splinter Cell it's essentially death match, but for lower skilled players it's an amazing game of cat-and-mouse
Whilst i grew up with the ps2, I never bought the hdd/ethernet adapter so I never had the chance to play online. Great video as always mate and so close to 10k subs too!
Honestly, I didn't know the PS2 had online growing up since I only play og Xbox Live back then. Thank you, man! It's been quite the journey. Still doesn't feel real 😅
The old ps2 era of pressure sensitive buttons haha. I remember I would get so confused thinking if my game was busted. As always great video and you covering older gaming and their online!
the original xbox also had pressure sensitive buttons. I had mgs2 substance on xbox and it blew my mind when I figured out that you can aim an assault rifle without firing it by lightly pressing the button. you can even alternate from aiming and firing by how hard you press. I don't know why they never explained this mechanic in game, that would have been so helpful. I don't even think the manual explains it either.
Oh fuck, SOCOM. The memories, THE MEMORIES! THEY'RE ALL COMING BACK TO ME! I didn't play SOCOM 2 specifically but rather the first game. That game definitely helped contribute to my problem solving skills and being able to think outside of the box. I definitely need to play it again sometime, especially now that I'm older and can better understand things, as well as being able to use the voice command system.
I spent so much time on BF2 and Black Hawk Down, man. They were about all I played back then. I miss them so much, and I wonder how some of the old guys are these days.
Other than the nostalgic feeling from seeing these games again, nothing makes me want to go back. It’s 2024 this is too outdated for me but if you people love it , all the power to you and have fun with it.
Awesome video! I miss this era of gaming so much. Every game felt different. Most every household I visited during the early 2000s had a PS2 in the living room
Nothing like finding a video that is just perfect for the vibe you are going for. I tried watching a video about abandonware but it just wasn't right. This video is about dead games but they had players at one time
BHD delta force was one of my first fps games ever. I grew up playing campaign and 4 player split screen. It was truly ahead of its time. We didn’t have internet at the time, but I was able to go back to it around 2010 via ps3 backwards compatibility. I played multiplayer online on it for the first time. Good times. They recently announced Delta force is making a comeback sometime in the future.
I didnt realise BF2 had a PS2 port. This game came out during a time when I was playing on PC . Strike at Karkand is still one of my most played maps. Then years later i played BF5 on the pro PS4 and it was really neat to see how far things of come, while also observing the puzzling removal of some ideas that really should have stayed
A fella by the name of Meatspin here Thank you for showcasing the mgo1 community on your channel. Myself and others really cherish this game and although we're currently a small community, we're a very welcoming community. Pop by anytime you'd like 👍
Definitely played the crap out of MGO1 and 2 back in the day. One thing to mention about Delta Force: BD is for the PC version, you were able to download the multiplayer portion for free. The servers were always populated, people made custom maps, and was a great substitute for Counter Strike at the time. I think the PC version still has active players.
Glad these games aren't actually dead as the title says haha. Make sure you look into Splinter Cell online! I think it easily rivals modern games and the most interesting part is that it's only 2v2! Extremely deep game.
CoD 3 was my introduction to the franchise unfortunately i had it on Wii so it wasn't a very good introduction bet it was really fun on other consoles though.
I was gonna mention this too. I was shocked to see that Ratchet and clank Full Frontal Assault is still playable online. No one's playing, but you can start a server and see highscores so there's at least potential to play. Nothing will ever beat up your arsenal though 😭
I remember watching my baby sitters husband play SOCOM 2 Online when I was 7, back in 2004 I believe! What an insane concept to be playing ONLINE with other people! How far we've come, only to fall over and over with new titles. Early 2000's gaming was a blessing, and I'll forever be grateful for those memories! Thanks for the trip lol
Lol yep. I remember my first time w online gaming was ncaa football 05 or something. Man it was like a whole nother world just opened up, and it was the greatest thing ever. At a friends house, and i was like I HAVE GOT TO GET INTERNET
Hands down you're one of the most awesome youtubers who does something new, You put a lot of effort into making the videos, i wish i could donate to you, Lots of love and thanks for doing this, I hope you can keep on keeping on.
I love that all of these games are the games I used to play online all the time back in the day. Only thing you're missing is Rainbow Six 3. Good dose of nostalgia right here.
I just came here to say I really appreciate when a creator properly and appropriately credits all the music and clips used 👍 We need to encourage more creators to do the same as that extra time you spent doing that is always welcomed ❤
consoles have never really been my thing i was lucky enough to grow up having overpriced gaming pc’s at a young age but not a console hater by any means and as someone who still plays counter strike 1.6 pretty much every day it makes me happy seeing this old of a game on this old of a console still being played even if it’s just by 7 people 😂😂 fuckin amazing i love that there’s still people out there playing old games
Bro i moved into a house w a roomate and he just happened to have bhd, but he nor i had any idea about the online part of it. But i read the case and seen it talking about it, so since we had internet we decided to try it.. Instantly we were addicted. I mean within seconds of gameplay we were both hooked
Played BFMC2 religiously on the OG Xbox version and eventually got the 360 version. I remembering always preferred the OG XB version more lol I wish that will make its way to PC or 360 again
I remember as a kid doing clan battles on socom 2 at specific times after school. So much fun. Confrontation was even more fun, dumped so much time in both! Makes me wonder what my buddy's from those games are playing nowadays
For sure. Socom 1 was so revolutionary with the mic use in single player telling your npc teammates what to do. I thought that was so cool even though they made the campaign hard as hell at least for me at the time as a high schooler. Was super fun online too until people used GameSharks or whatever they used to hack the game and have full auto sniper rifles, God mode, and the single player grenade launcher while behind a wall.
BF2 MC was also very unique in ita single player campaign as well! Being able to basically control every soldier was pretty damn cool. Wished they expanded more on that.
Wow, how cool. Black hawk down was my first venture into online shooters. N oh man did i get into it. That game in 06 or 07 was unreal. Tons of players, competitive play, and so much fun. If i remember correctly the main lobbys could hold 32 players, 16 on each team. Last i played was 2010ish, and there were a handful of people. Pretty surprised you found anyone on there. Paperwork was the nuketown of bhd, unbelievable action. When it comes to fun, no other shooter has ever gotten close to it imo. One thing i loved was the agility your character had, if you could move your sticks and press your buttons fast and well enough, your guy could pull off insane moves that others had trouble handling. And the moves looked cool. And yes it was so easy to play and get into but still hard to reach the highest levels of skill. They nailed it with that game and man i wish they'd make another. If anyone from those days sees this comment let me know.

Splinter Cell online is complicated for noobs because there's a few regulars and when you get really good at Splinter Cell it's essentially death match, but for lower skilled players it's an amazing game of cat-and-mouse
So weird thinking about a lot of folks who were active on these servers, there's a decent chance that some are no longer with us on Earth. RIP
I remember setting up my PS2 for online for the first time, Battlefield 2: Modern Combat. It was honestly wild when the servers were full
Awesome video! Cool you caught one of the greatest clans BF2MC’s ever had- FARC playing together in it!
I had no idea Venezuelan communist narco-terrorists played video games lol
I'm glad youtube suggested your channel. I really enjoyed the video and you seem like a good dude.
Thank you so much man! Really means a lot.
I didn’t either. I got a 360 in 2008 and playing online on a console was a completely new and mind blowing experience for me.
@@patrickmccutcheon8860 I didn’t play online till ps3. Cod4 really set the bar for online play high
@patrickmccutcheon8860 imagine playing phantasy star online on dreamcast or gamecube. Most online ganes suck now.
The era was a perfect confluence of real developer dedication but big publisher money. I don't think it'll ever be this way again.
I can't believe people are still playing PS2 games online, wild stuff.
The old ps2 era of pressure sensitive buttons haha. I remember I would get so confused thinking if my game was busted.
As always great video and you covering older gaming and their online!
Yeah it caught off guard a few times 😅 thanks man!!
the original xbox also had pressure sensitive buttons.
Really enjoyed your video. Brought back some great memories.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Glad to see you take a look at Metal Gear Online. I hope to maybe see you on the battlefield sometime soon. Maybe as comrades or enemies.
WOAH! Forgot about Delta Force, it was the first online game i played!! Thank u for nostalgia in this video
They're making a new one for current gen. Pisses me off that gets revived before socom does
@@ActiœnMan all we can do is hope it will be good!!! Socom reboot is needed tho
@ActionMan-Grant man i been hearing that for years and years. Nothing ever happens.
Black hawk down was my bread and butter, when i had friends to play with
Loving the Bully background music used in the opener 👍🏼
I spent so much time on BF2 and Black Hawk Down, man. They were about all I played back then. I miss them so much, and I wonder how some of the old guys are these days.
Other than the nostalgic feeling from seeing these games again, nothing makes me want to go back. It’s 2024 this is too outdated for me but if you people love it , all the power to you and have fun with it.
Great video and good communities. Thanks for the shout-out, happy to play with you!
Thanks again for all your help man! I really that montage you made. Reminds me of the ones I used to watch back in the day 🙏
I love your videos brother
I teared up a little seeing MGO1 gameplay. It was my first online game. The reason i got the ps2 online adapter. I loved it so much.
Awesome video! I miss this era of gaming so much. Every game felt different. Most every household I visited during the early 2000s had a PS2 in the living room
Nothing like finding a video that is just perfect for the vibe you are going for. I tried watching a video about abandonware but it just wasn't right. This video is about dead games but they had players at one time
Thank you for stopping by 😁
BHD delta force was one of my first fps games ever.
BF2 Modern Combat was great. It was probably my second most played online game on the og Xbox
It was the best game ever made.
It had some player base on ps2 at some time ago, but I don't know now
@@asuperrandomguy8266 I'm thinking about picking up a copy on e-bay and seeing if I can get into a game now!
black hawk online for ps2 was a hidden gem back in the day god damn
Cod 2 Big Red One was my intro to online gaming next to Halo 2. Games just dont feel the same anymore
This is the one I been waiting for! As a big ps2 fan and online player back in the day it was such a great console
A fella by the name of Meatspin here
Thank you for showcasing the mgo1 community on your channel.
I had the Delta Force game it mostly ties into the movie but expands on the movie as well.
Thanks for this video. Playing PS2 Battlefield 2 modern combat again would be nostalgia overload!
Glad these games aren't actually dead as the title says haha. Make sure you look into Splinter Cell online! I think it easily rivals modern games and the most interesting part is that it's only 2v2! Extremely deep game.
This guy just called it “ battle of managesho “ with full confidence 17:01 …. But with all honesty i really love your content man
It's awesome to see people are still playing these old school games 🔥
I remember playing CoD 3 online with the PS3. That game online feels nothing like CoD has for the past 10-15 years.
CoD 3 was my introduction to the franchise unfortunately i had it on Wii so it wasn't a very good introduction bet it was really fun on other consoles though.
The entire time i was hoping to see resident evil outbreak. Seeing the end saying you were going to explore more and seeing the screen got me excited
I tried for a whole week to get it working but it just kept giving this weird visual glitch. I am determined to get it working though :)
You forgot Ratchet and Clank Up Your Arsenal and Deadlocked.
I was gonna mention this too. I was shocked to see that Ratchet and clank Full Frontal Assault is still playable online. No one's playing, but you can start a server and see highscores so there's at least potential to play.
Nothing will ever beat up your arsenal though 😭
@@mattballin13 "nothing will ever beat up your arsenal". Facts, brother.
Nice video, MAWK. There's a Delta Force: BHD PS2 online event on mostly every Tuesday.
Thank you 🙏 I'll try attend again in the future
The intro design got me instantly sub 😂 great video
Thanks for the sub! 🙏
Just found your channel. I think the make or break for me is those AI voiceovers. Nice to hear a human putting the work in.. keep it up!
Thanks for stopping by! Always glad to put in the extra work 🙏
Lmfao seeing a train of boxes came at you is classic and actually terrifying when you see happen lmfao.
Modern Combat was amazing. 24 players online. A dope sniper class and an amazing campaign.
I remember playing MGO1 from 2014 to 2016 almost every weekend, still friends with the guys from that time.
*Players keep spawn killing, trolling and not giving anyone a fair shot*
Player: Gee, I wonder why this game is dead?
Hands down you're one of the most awesome youtubers who does something new, You put a lot of effort into making the videos, i wish i could donate to you, Lots of love and thanks for doing this, I hope you can keep on keeping on.
Thank you, man! 🙏 I really appreciate your support and watching my videos. It can be very challenging, but comments like this make it worthwhile ❤️
damn i literally grew up playing cod3 online on the ps2... nostalgic af. ill keep these memories with me til til i am an old man
"Like the name implies, 'Lost Forest' is a small sized map ideal for close quarters combat".
🤔
Impressively, the PS2 is still alive in our hearts!!! Better, ONLINE!!! ❤❤❤
I played a ton of MGO back in the day. Those knife only matchs were fun
You’re a beast dude love these videos
Thank you so much man! Really means a lot to hear that 🙏
I'm glad to see some good gamers keeping some Playstation 2 online games active to this day.
It’s nice that atleast the servers are online
PS2 til this day still has such a great library of games, arguably one of the best. Really miss when games hit like these did.
I love that all of these games are the games I used to play online all the time back in the day. Only thing you're missing is Rainbow Six 3. Good dose of nostalgia right here.
loved the video. took me back to the good old MGO days on ps2.
+1 for using Saria's song @ the lost forest part
instant subscribe
It's aged so well on the PS2, glad I got the chance to experience it.
Thank you so much man 🙏
I just came here to say I really appreciate when a creator properly and appropriately credits all the music and clips used 👍 We need to encourage more creators to do the same as that extra time you spent doing that is always welcomed ❤
battle field 2 modern combat is worth the play just for the single player alone, its one of my favourite battle field games.
i remember playing call of duty 3 with my cousins ps2 it was fun with the multiplayer
Socom is outstanding. They got the 3rd person aspect right with the character right in the centre of the screen.
consoles have never really been my thing i was lucky enough to grow up having overpriced gaming pc’s at a young age but not a console hater by any means and as someone who still plays counter strike 1.6 pretty much every day it makes me happy seeing this old of a game on this old of a console still being played even if it’s just by 7 people 😂😂 fuckin amazing i love that there’s still people out there playing old games
i remember playing black hawk down online, i got it as a christmas present alongside the online attachment. was so much fun
What was your gamer tag?
@@McGreavster1back then it was dvdplaya543 lol
Amazing video! Thank you! The nostalgia is real.
I remember as a kid doing clan battles on socom 2 at specific times after school. So much fun. Confrontation was even more fun, dumped so much time in both! Makes me wonder what my buddy's from those games are playing nowadays
Great video bud!
Thank you so much man 🙏
I miss socom. I wish zipper interactive was still around and was brought current
Same here man, 1-3 would be awesome remastered.
Ah backstab, so many good memories! Still remember the glitch under the map you could do if you went into a side room and fell through the floor.
BF2 MC was also very unique in ita single player campaign as well! Being able to basically control every soldier was pretty damn cool. Wished they expanded more on that.
Thank you for including modern combat. That game was my childhood and my first online game. So much nostalgia.
I wonder if there's still people playing NFS Underground 2 and Midnight Club 3 multiplayer. Those are the only two PS2 games I ever played online.
If anyone from those days sees this comment let me know.
i remember playing bf2 modern combat while talking to my buddy on my landline phone as a primitive voice chat lol
