    One minor editorial note, toward the end you mentioned that members from one station could drive apparatus from the other, specifically the tanker and tower. WG does not have a tower, just a regular ladder.
    Otherwise a great video. My son works there as an EMT so it was nice to take a look to see where he works.

  • @timeout1569

    Just subscribed and am looking forward to your other videos. Interesting thing I picked up towards the end regarding their antique. Elsie, the former owner's wife, called my hometown department, Purchase, NY, regarding the fate of our old antique as well. Her husband had purchased a whole bunch of old apparatus with the intention of starting a museum. Unfortunately he passed away before that could happen so Elsie reached out to the former owners and asked them to come and retrieve their old rigs or they would be scrapped. So my brother and a few of the other members headed out there with a flatbed tractor trailer and retrieved her. She is a 1957 Seagrave Quad that is still in excellent condition. Just thought I would share that with you. 👍🏻

    May not be a fair comparison, but.. Elk Grove has a 20-25 year replacement policy for apparatus. To show how skewed some things are (excluding the obvious reasons/needs for the policy), Beverly Hills has a 10 year replacement policy (4 engines, 3 rescues, 2 BCs, a USAR and a tiller - the replaced apparatus is used as reserves for another 10 years), Los Angeles has a 10-15 year replacement policy (dependent on geography). LAFD reserves are as old as 30 years.

    • @HeroesNextDoor
      @HeroesNextDoor  3 года назад +1

      Yeah, it’s definitely important to have a replacement plan. Depending on how many calls they run I’ve seen some stations with 35 year old apparatus that still run perfectly and look new, but they are also not running many calls a year

  • @huntermason1292
    @huntermason1292 2 месяца назад

    Not bashing or anything but it’s crazy that there are departments that are able to spend 6 figures on a restoration on a vehicle that isn’t even a reserve apparatus when there’s other departments out there that can’t even afford to replace/repair their front line apparatus. Awesome department you guys have keep up the awesome work. Also love the orange !!!

      It is funny that you commented this. As we traveled across the US we are finding the terminology to be so different. I personally never heard of a tender until Indiana. We don’t have many if any flying tankers :). It’s nice to learn how different people use the same equipment and name them differently also. The biggest one beside tanker vs tender is tower/ladder/aerial/or truck....

    Ok where's the money coming from because the area looks rural as AF.

    • @HeroesNextDoor
      @HeroesNextDoor  3 года назад +1

      Their money comes from a very supportive community and they have a cell phone tower on their property that provides them a decent amount of money

      @@HeroesNextDoor There has to more to it to have that many new rigs of that quality. A cell tower and the rural population size doesn't explain what I'm seeing.

      Yeah I see that, they have a huge area that they cover and their first station is in a fairly populated area. Honestly they do a really great job fundraising, it’s the reason why they have 3 stations and have been around for so long.

      Also the apparatus are owned by the township, the building and equipment is owned by them. They have to go to the township and present to them why they need new apparatus. The township takes into account how fiscally responsible they have been and whether or not the deserve more trucks.

      @@HeroesNextDoor I was a firefighter in a region of America where the volunteer firehouses and equipment made firefighters from other regions jealous and yet I haven't figured out how this department with what amounts to a large rural fire district has pulled this off. At first I thought I would find out that they had massive estates hiding in their fire district or maybe Penn State was located there or a major company had a large investment to protect but nope couldn't find anything that made me say "Ah ha".
