    Great video. I enjoy seeing the various communications centers. As a retired dispatcher, when I first started, we were using hand written call cards, and no screens, etc; we only had map books. You really got to know your territory. Also, when I first started, we didn’t have 911 fully operational.

    as someone who spends 24/7 on a PC with 3 screens for gaming/editing/coding six screens is not much of a steipup the biggest challenge is just knowing where keys/keybinds shortcuts. Really amazing networking/inferstructure they setup.

    Awesome. Have visited there several times, most notably during the transition/move from the Hazlett Building over to 911/800mhz , was accompanied by the late Tim Campbell and Andy Dinniman. A lot has changed, very professional operation.

    My county communications center trains all staff in both call taking and dispatching and dispatchers are expected to handle fire, ems and police radio calls, not just one or the other. This better utilizes resources. A central dispatch center like this is better than the police having dispatchers across town and the fire and ems dispatchers somewhere else. Situational awareness is important, that's why my county ensures that a single dispatcher can talk across all agencies.

    Is there any call centers that you have to dial the manual phone number in the United States? Since the employees are in a dark room all day do you tell them to take vitamin d3? do call canters have "bat phones" to other call centers? What happens when you get a landline call from a VoiP phone service provider? example skype, vontage, google phone where as they tell you don't dial 911 for emergencies you have to dial it manually other wise you will get the wrong center. What happens when a dispatchier oand/or call taker cell a emergency phone call from one of their own? how is that handled?

    The Ass. Supervisor said they get about 1000 calls a day - the Dep. Director said they have about 1000 _calls for service_ (meaning, they dispatch a unit), sooo... which is it?
    Because I highly doubt that these numbers are even roughly the same. Any dispatch center I have come across has a huge chunk of calls that are NOT calls for service.

    • @centredoorplugsthornton4112
      @centredoorplugsthornton4112 10 месяцев назад

      So what are the other calls for? Complaints? Someone doing something? Attempts to make calls to India, where the country code is 91? Hangups? Bunch of callers telling em something they already know and responding to, like an accident or fire?

      They use that sound to make sure people take note for an important update to a call. Everything is customized and using a noise people won't here hear often is best practice to ensure it's noticed
