Strombo is such a great interviewer! He asks valid questions that i do wanna hear about, not like most bland interviewers that always ask the same shitty question...
StrokeMeYouInsolentHumanCuzIAmACat I like the one about the 'journey' too. Knowing the principle roads, but the adventure being in what happens along the way.
Strombo is such a great interviewer. He always looks interested in what the guest has to say, and he lets them talk. It IS their interview after all. Other talk show hosts don't get it, like Conan, Fallon, Letterman and Stern. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy all of them, but they always need to throw in their one-liners and make the crowd laugh...
I definitely prefer Strombo. I enjoy him more than all the hosts that you mentioned put together however it's important to remember what they're going for. they're trying to be entertainers more so than invokers of interesting discussions
Wanna Beth I am a fan. Martin still has no power over me whatsoever. Also George Martin has very little to do with Game of Thrones. I'm assuming you mean A Song of Ice and Fire. Which I suspect you probably haven't actually read.
George Stroumboulopoulos is one of the best interviewers, it really sucks that he gets stuck interviewing a lot of really boring people, that said when he does get to interview someone a lot more famous like George R.R. Martin he really know how to make them do the talking.
I'm going to be humiliated for this, but I've never read one of his books nor seen any adaptions of them. (nothing against him.. i've just been so busy lately). But, watching this interview alone makes me want to start reading them! He's awesome.
Never seen or heard of this show before, but honestly, BEST interview I have ever seen. Not best GRRM interview, best interview period. Interviewer knows his stuff and asks all the right questions. Great job!
When the first time I heard him open his mouth happened, I would never have expected him to be as intelligent or well spoken as he is. He's such an awesome person.
I agree with this, certainly one of the best interviews I've seen. You can tell when the interviewer knows what they're doing, certainly what they're talking about. Nice to see for a change.
This is a good interview! The interviewer seems to know what he is talking about, he doesn't interrupt George Martin (like many other interviewers), and he asks some good questions.
I love ya Strombo! I’m 40 and you’ve been there for my developing years both young and into adult/parenthood brother! In the 90s it was on MuchMusic and after that via CBC and the more personalized brand you were able to create and share with us. I really appreciate you man, you make me proud to be a Canadian. I enjoy introducing younger people to your past work cause they all love you too. Especially your down to earth interview style. Props and cheers from London Ontario
I really wish this guy would pick up the pace with his books. With the current projections, he's going to be almost 70 by the time book 6 of A Song of Ice and Fire comes out, and there's going to be a 7th book to finish the series as well. He could very well die before he finishes his works, that would be a double tragedy that such a great writer has passed and that he did not manage to complete his most important series. Imagine if Tolkien died before Return of the King was finished.
Such a great and intelligent interview. I very much enjoyed this. Shame we don't have too many interview shows like this, it's always brilliant to kick back and actually listen to what the interviewee has to say.
With all the hype that came with the show, I'm very glad that I decided to read the books before I watched the show. I absolutely love the books and am going to enjoy seeing everything come to life very soon when I buy the first season on Bluray. GRRM, you've brought many enjoyable hours to this grateful reader.
He's fantastic, having more of a casual conversation than firing off questions and moving on to the next segment. He actually cares, and has decent conversations that show the person more than just a question and answer segment.
Didn't ADWD reveal Jon's mother in one of Davos' chapters? I just finished the chapter in the fighting pit (probably my fave scene out of any of the books) so I haven't exactly finished the 5th book yet
A. Clancularius ah i believe im talking about the scene in which the plus sized Lord Worberly (Wav ery? Wubber? Christ) said that the mom was just some fishing lass. I understand now that that could be just rumor
I would stilll like the idea that Jon Snows parents are Lyanna Stark and Rhaegar Targaryen and Ned Stark never cheated on Catelyn. Would make sense to me. (Don't worry, that's not a spoiler, just an idea)
Probably the best GRRM interview on RUclips. Good questions, well thought and creative answers, and the interviewer is actually pretty cool and not a complete moron like so many others.
It is possible eyes can change colours. My eyes used to change from blue/green every few months. It hasn't happened in over a year now. And if anyone is aware of this, can you explain why my eyes did this? (My dad had green eyes, my mom had blue eyes, but why did they change?)
Lollipopfop Well here, how about I'll go find a source or two, and by the way, living in the same place, looking at them in the same bathroom, in the same lights can really change eyes. c:
BritishCyborgCats In french we call it "yeux pers". They change largely due to a complexe mix of light, air humidity, eyes hydratation & mood. I think it's call hazel eyes in English or some variation of it. It tend to fade with time with the degeneration of the melona. I use to have eyes like that.
great interviewer. he really has a good conversation. usually, there are 2 types of interviewers. the ones that just ask a pre-composed question, wait for the answer and then ask another one. and those that just try to have a conversation but usually start to talk and interrupt too much, not realizing it is not him we wanna hear talking. strombo has a great way of bringing these two styles together in the best way possible.
I have no Earthly clue how he's going to end this show in two books. The fourth and fifth books had too much setup. Heck, they were practically ALL setup. And at some point, we have to see the ruins of Valyria. And what the heck's up north. And Tyrion has to do something other than give us endlessly quotable quotes. No way is Martin ending this in less than eight books. Unless each of the remaining books are like 2000 pages long.
GRRM pressures this sentiment in basically every interview.. so I guess the others will turn out to be a mutated subrace of humans, and not "evil evil".
George is so intelligent and well-spoken, just like when I read his books I was hanging on his every word. Just what I would expect from the author of my favourite series. Long live the true king of westeros my friends, G.R.R Martin.
George R.R. Martin is the author who got me interested into the Fantasy genre! If I had not picked up 'A Clash of Kings' out of curiosity December 2010, I probably never would have delved into this genre. I LOVE the HBO series and it also sparked my interest in Martin's series. I finished 'A Game of Thrones' in February and was totally enthralled with it and am definitely going to read the rest of the series. Cannot wait for the concluding books to come out :D
What a great guy. I didn't do much reading between the ages of 16-19, then my sister bought me A Game of Thrones (the first book). Finished it in a few days and went out and bought the whole series. I'm stuck on A Feast for Crows, but as soon as I finish the books I'm going to start the TV series.
George RR Martin is my idle and inspiration....I love his work and I love his thoughts about life......I hope to someday be able to meet and talk with him then I could die in peace.
The first book has been available the longest, and has had its sales spread out over the greatest period of time. The sale volume at any one time may not have been high enough to get it on there, but that doesn't mean that people are starting from some other part of the series.
I love his laugh, so warm and jolly. A full cheeked giggle.
ikr it's the kinda of laugh that would make you think a joke is funnier than it is so you laugh anyway
Strombo is such a great interviewer! He asks valid questions that i do wanna hear about, not like most bland interviewers that always ask the same shitty question...
Fuck no, he kept cutting GRRM off. Let the man finish his sentence!
That analogy about the gardener and the architect was quite fascinating.
StrokeMeYouInsolentHumanCuzIAmACat I like the one about the 'journey' too. Knowing the principle roads, but the adventure being in what happens along the way.
+StrokeMeYouInsolentHumanCuzIAmACat I thought so too, this guy is great at explaining himself.
+StrokeMeYouInsolentHumanCuzIAmACat
Except that no gardener bleeds for the seed to grow. that made no sense?
+J Nielsen Tomer It's called a metaphor ;)
Josh Schultz
blood can't be a metaphor for anything in a gardening example.
I think this was one of the best interviews I have ever seen.
Its a sight to see him speak. His mouth opens and vast, valuable knowledge comes flowing out. George, you sir are a genius.
Well those guys are comedians, not just interviewers. But I agree with you on this guy's interview skills.
I definitely prefer Strombo. I enjoy him more than all the hosts that you mentioned put together however it's important to remember what they're going for. they're trying to be entertainers more so than invokers of interesting discussions
It's such a delight to just sit and listen to this man talk!
If you imagine the amount of power this man has over us
none whatsoever?
chuckb11 movies and series have more impact on you, more than you're real people
chuckb11 ah sry, I meant the fans of GoT of course. My bad, should have been more specific. Thought that would be too obvious.
Even if that was true, we could do a lot worse... G.R.R.Martin's sense of morality is impeccable, I find...
You're right. At least he realises the interview is about the guest and not about him.
This is one of the best interviews I've ever seen in my life. So informative. What a refreshing change
I'm going to be humiliated for this, but I've never read one of his books nor seen any adaptions of them. (nothing against him.. i've just been so busy lately). But, watching this interview alone makes me want to start reading them! He's awesome.
Indeed he is and so are the books aswell as their adaptations.
Sooo, what about now.
Jeepers Scoob The Show sucks now though.
One of the best interview I have ever seen. I can listen GRRM for hours and the other George is a great interviewer.
What a great man, George R.R. Martin.
I really love how writers speak during interviews :)
I love listening to him and his thoughts. He is a truly brilliant man.
Never seen or heard of this show before, but honestly, BEST interview I have ever seen. Not best GRRM interview, best interview period. Interviewer knows his stuff and asks all the right questions. Great job!
I simply love this guy. Can listen to GRRM all day long.
When the first time I heard him open his mouth happened, I would never have expected him to be as intelligent or well spoken as he is. He's such an awesome person.
I was looking throughout RUclips for a properly-done interview with Martin. Finally. Thanks George (and George).
He's like an Evil Santa
***** LOOK AT HIM
***** haha you still don't get it. I leave it to your imagination. :)
***** Maybe ;)
I like to call him Murder Santa
It has a nice ring to it
crawlingninjabear Exactly!
I agree with this, certainly one of the best interviews I've seen. You can tell when the interviewer knows what they're doing, certainly what they're talking about.
Nice to see for a change.
Very cool guy. Intelligent and honest. Great conversationalist. Nice to see him achieve such huge success.
i love this show. witty comments, subtle interventions, and just hints of ideas that let the interviewee have his time to talk. beautiful.
Awesome interview!
Im from the UK and I love watching clips of this show. The interviewer is amazing
good interviewer and interviewee
This is a good interview! The interviewer seems to know what he is talking about, he doesn't interrupt George Martin (like many other interviewers), and he asks some good questions.
This guys is a living legend.
I love ya Strombo! I’m 40 and you’ve been there for my developing years both young and into adult/parenthood brother!

Imagine if Tolkien died before Return of the King was finished.
***** I Heard he told the rest of the story and how it finishes to the tv producers in case he died... Anyways IDK if it is true
He already told Benioff and Weiss the ending, so no worries.
John Rutherford He told the tv writers "some" stuff but not all. According to George in another interview, I watched, anyway.
fantastic interview. I guess that's what happens when you get a good interviewer and somebody who clearly is quite interesting and articulate
"All of us have the capacity for good, all of us have the capacity for evil"
Such a great and intelligent interview. I very much enjoyed this. Shame we don't have too many interview shows like this, it's always brilliant to kick back and actually listen to what the interviewee has to say.
This guy is a genius.

I WANT THAT VEST!!!
He's fantastic, having more of a casual conversation than firing off questions and moving on to the next segment. He actually cares, and has decent conversations that show the person more than just a question and answer segment.
Just finished "A Dance With Dragons", and can't wait for "The Winds of Winter" to be published
I can't wait to get there too. I bought all the books after watching the first three seasons and want to catch up so that I know what's coming.
I love how he answers simple questions with intricate and complex analogies. Such an awesome and well spoken man.
George looks like a character from his stories lol
his comment about how the real ultimate battle between good and evil takes place within the individual is just genius
5:12 Hooo boy that one didnt age well
Probably the best interview I've ever seen. Never seen an interview flow like this before. Strombo and GRRM are both geniuses!
I would stilll like the idea that Jon Snows parents are Lyanna Stark and Rhaegar Targaryen and Ned Stark never cheated on Catelyn. Would make sense to me.
(Don't worry, that's not a spoiler, just an idea)
Manuela E. It’s a spoiler now
Probably the best GRRM interview on RUclips.
That definitively sounds like you have mild radiation poisoning. Get that checked out straight away.
InfernoAcid Yes, you are funny. Now go run along.
Don't be stupid. Eyes don't change color. Its just what you are wearing or the light around you that makes it look different.
Lollipopfop Well here, how about I'll go find a source or two, and by the way, living in the same place, looking at them in the same bathroom, in the same lights can really change eyes. c:

strombo has a great way of bringing these two styles together in the best way possible.
So when is winter coming?
Winter comes by the end of a dance with dragons
After Autumn.
Usually after autumn.
But if you mean the next book, it's coming when he finishes it. You can't rush quality, mate. ;)
TheCrimsonIdol987 he said it's not a 2015 book, so next year (2016) looks like
Mark VI Spartan Everyone in the seven kingdoms is a meteorologist.
You really can't deny how great of a writer and creator this man is. He seems like a great person too.
Martin never sits comfortably
Man, I can listen to him talk for hours.
Ned, ten is too young!
He won't be a boy forever, and winter is surely coming.
Thank you! I'm sure he will stick around all the way but this is good to know that we will get an ending either way.
I have no Earthly clue how he's going to end this show in two books. The fourth and fifth books had too much setup. Heck, they were practically ALL setup.

No way is Martin ending this in less than eight books. Unless each of the remaining books are like 2000 pages long.
Here we are 8years later and still have no clue
I always thought this guy was another showbizzy TV host, really pleasantly surprised by this. Great interview
GRRM pressures this sentiment in basically every interview.. so I guess the others will turn out to be a mutated subrace of humans, and not "evil evil".
He gives such genius interviews, every answer is detailed, funny and informative!
George R.R. Martin is just cool ! :D
I love how sheepish he is with the question about women.
@Zoe K. Clearly you haven't read the books.
I always enjoy George’s architect and Gardener metaphor to describe writers. Very cool.
How do you write women so well?
"I think of a man, then I take away reason and accountability."
lmao
George is so intelligent and well-spoken, just like when I read his books I was hanging on his every word. Just what I would expect from the author of my favourite series. Long live the true king of westeros my friends, G.R.R Martin.
The joke about him killing people is so damn old already...
How eloquently he expresses the metaphors for the process of writing, this man is an incredible artist
Weiner, weiner weiner!
Great interview. Strombo did an awesome job too. He seems genuinely interested in what Martin is saying.
I'm sorry, love GOT, but it's almost impossible to take him seriously dressed like Dracula if he were a member of The Blue Oyster Cult...
This interviewer is really interesting. First time ive seen him do an interview. He seems to hang onto every word that Martin says. It's great
George R.R. Martin is the author who got me interested into the Fantasy genre! great stuff... enjoyed the interview alot, a real treat!
Great interview, very insightful on both sides.
thanks for uploading an interesting interview
I'm sure he's a blessing to those who can too, many famous authors have given him their praise. GRRM is a genius.
one of the best interviews with martin.
Wow, what an well done interview.
George has a amasing view of life and i cant wait for the end of the story. keep it going and peace love and respect.
i cant thank this man enough for this amazing series
What a great guy. I didn't do much reading between the ages of 16-19, then my sister bought me A Game of Thrones (the first book). Finished it in a few days and went out and bought the whole series. I'm stuck on A Feast for Crows, but as soon as I finish the books I'm going to start the TV series.
The hour has some amazing interviews. George is a great host.
Great interview, George is such an interesting guy.
Great interview...George looks to be in better health since last I saw him.
Great interview though and I do love his books, love that expression "its the same old story a fight for love and glory"
I love how he just talks in metaphors. I fucking love this guy
You know you can really notice when an interview is awkward, but this just really worked :)
Exactly what I was looking for, ALLRecorded. Thanks!
really awesome dude hosting the show
so interesting to listen to, great writer, great books, great show
George RR Martin is my idle and inspiration....I love his work and I love his thoughts about life......I hope to someday be able to meet and talk with him then I could die in peace.
The first book has been available the longest, and has had its sales spread out over the greatest period of time. The sale volume at any one time may not have been high enough to get it on there, but that doesn't mean that people are starting from some other part of the series.
his analogies are amazing
I can listen to this guy all day.
now that is a man that truly loves his fans
I actually thought the interviewer for the most part asked very thoughtful questions. Great responses too
again, this was meant for all authors who write series', but i appreciate your attempt at "fixing" it.
I personally love when there is deviation between book and movie/series. makes it worth experiencing both.
7:58 What captivating words! Truly stunning to hear someone say that!
I love George's examples, they are like stories themselves!
We love you George. Take all the time you need to produce quality. I'll wait five years between books for the quality of books you produce.
Hehehe now we've been waiting for a decade.
I consider myself a patient Grrm fan, but ten years is too long 🙁🙁
I love how there's a "Watch the TV edit" link at the beginning,
as if what airs on TV is relevant. :p
incredibly intelligent man, I am quite mesmerised when he begins to explain how he thinks minds work.
I dunno if it's the best interview ever, but I was relieved that it wasn't the same 5 questions everyone seems to ask GRRM.
The two greatest Georges in the world.
