  • Back in 2011, Foo Fighters invited George and a pair of lucky contest winners down to LA for an introduction and tour of Dave Grohl's Studio 606. Grohl brought us into the world of rockers who have recorded there, and even hosted an exclusive listening party for 'Wasting Light'.

    I've gotta say for a mega rich, mega famous rock star he always comes across as a really cool guy and pretty grounded for someone in his position.

      Watts660 He's never forgotten what it was like to be one of two kids with a single mother in the suburbs, or the adolescent punk crashing on sofas on tour.

      He is. We see him here in Kona every few months. (He's got a house at the 4 Seasons) Ran into him at Target once.
      Super genuine dude. ..which didn't surprise me at all. Been following him since '91. I honestly don't trust anyone who dislikes Dave. Lol

      That's the thing. Typically, when one gets that famous, they can't help but let their ego get to them when everyone around them is telling them how amazing they are. Once in a while, however, a genuine person like Grohl makes it big and there's nothing that can change them from being a truly good person once they figure out fame. Pretty interesting. As many times as he's heard how amazing his records are, that "Thanks, man!" was truly sincere.

      +Mike Patton Maybe not forgotten but I wish Grohl remembered how to write songs like he recorded by himself on whatever it was that he used to record that first album. Everything now sounds like manufactured arena rock designed to get onto the soundtrack of some shit Summer blockbuster action movie.

      +hashdealer88 Orrrr... You're jaded and that's just what he likes to write now. Dave is the LAST person on earth to "keep the mansion going". ..especially by sacrificing his ideal of good music. Are you new here? Lol He's the most humble and down to earth person ever. He really IS that happy and approachable. I don't like a lot of their new stuff either, but I can guarantee 1,000% that he stands fully behind all of it ..and that's all that matters. One of many examples: Their first "anthem" smash hit "Best of You" wasn't even originally going on the record. He had no perception of its hit-worthiness at all. He had shelved it...

All that hard work, emotion and time u put in, to see what people are gonna think or feel, awesome thing for them to watch they would of enjoyed that part with them!!!

    • @kathrynn.9480
      @kathrynn.9480 5 лет назад +4

      I think part of what made Dave the well rounded guy he is was the experience of Nirvana's rapid success and Kurt's suicide. Dave was in the middle of all the success with Nirvana but said in a couple interviews, he got to hide behind the drums and wasn't noticed so much. Kurt was in the spotlight under constant scrutiny being torn to shreds by the media. He was not even treated like a human anymore. I believe the pressure to be perfect was overwhelming and that's what lead to his suicide. Dave got to closely witness this phenomenon at a very young age which gave him a wisdom beyond his years and has fueled Foo Fighters success like crazy. He truly is an awesome down to earth guy.

    This video felt so awkward at times. Is it just me that felt that?

    • @knutelindstrom3716
      @knutelindstrom3716 9 лет назад +10

      No, you're right, there were awkward moments, it's bcuz of the cameras & meeting ppl for the first time, & since it was a contest, it's sort of forced geniality, though Dave always seems pretty cool. It's just hard to feel comfortable & natural when there are cameras watching your every move, makes it awkward as hell. I'm awkward myself, so I recognize it too! I would've asked if we could get rid of the cameras & if I could record my songs if it was me! I wonder if he'd let me record there? Even though I'm a nobody, not established, not a "professional", etc., I have a lot of songs & very little access to equipment. I just don't live in LA though! He's probably too busy anyway, doing all kinds of other projects. I want to record analog, I'm not much into the tech perfection which can make it sound computer generated. Oh well!

    Daves reaction to the "Nirvana" drum set was kinda awkward @ 4:50. I just cant get a good read on him sometimes when it comes to his time in Nirvana.
    There are times when he openly talks about his time with Nirvana, but then other times it seems like he wants to distance himself from Nirvana. Why does he not want to acknowledge the Nirvana drum kit?

    • @gregpasq
      @gregpasq 5 лет назад +3

      I don't think his time in Nirvana was all rainbows and kittens. Plus, he probably grew tired of the fame pretty quickly. At some point you would want to move on....

    Never liked Nirvana and not much of a Foo fighters fan (Them crooked Vultures rocked) but I have alot of respect for Dave Grohl. He is a true music lover and artist. And he's a Rush fan so....super cool dude.

  • @ikigai47
    @ikigai47 8 лет назад +12

    I like Dave, but his music isn't "raw" stuff that demands tape like the band he referenced would have ("imagine 'The Who' using pro tools!"). His music is simple, commercial rock that would be just fine digitally and no one would notice the difference. And honestly if he's SOOOO obsessed with feel / raw and non perfection, why does he employ a drummer that is a human metronome? Why doesn't he push "feel" for the band more vs perfect timing? He's just gonna save that mentality for when it gets recorded? Also... what says you HAVE to "fix" things in digital? You don't have to quantize/cut/copy/paste if you don't want to. Just hit record and pretend it's tape if u want. Jeez. He's so romanced by the days of tape he's not using common sense

    • @Chris-yj2di
      @Chris-yj2di 8 лет назад +5

      Yeah, I don't get it. It's frustrating to see famous older musicians talk shit about digital. It's cheap, for those of us who aren't rock stars recording on analog is an impossibility. I don't have 3,000 to spend on even a Tascam 388 THEN more to fork out for tape. Plus most people who record in their rooms record like it's tape anyway. I don't fix anything in digital. I press record, play then when I'm done press stop.

      Chaplin G I'd say that whatever he's doing is working. What have you done in comparison in order rise to the level of critique that you so readily offer?

    • @ikigai47
      @ikigai47 7 лет назад

      Benn Down Syndrome - Take your ADD meds 'white knight without a clue', nothing I said has to do with what you're "so readily" implying. I spoke on the flaws and contradictions of his recording to tape logic, which were 100% accurate and have nothing to do with a person's success. But I guess until a man sells more records than Dave they aren't allowed to point out inaccuracies when he trashes an entire industry (digital)? Nice logic

    • @Chris-yj2di
      @Chris-yj2di 7 лет назад +1

      Benn Down Don't know if I would use the whole 'What have you done in comparison' logic. By that line of thinking no one can criticize a President unless they themselves have been elected President.

    • @BennDown
      @BennDown 7 лет назад

      I own one of the largest record labels in the UK and have worked in the most prestigious studios in the world. I think I'll be fine with my thoughts. Good luck with the online critiquing! It's doing you wonders! Haha!
