I couldnt imagine anyone else as Robert Baratheon than Mark Addy... Also Conleth Hill was born to play Varys like come on UPDATE: I have read the books now. Wtf were they thinking when casting Mark Addy ?! That man is a solid 5ft compared to the original Robert. The only similarities are their equal amounts of wife slapping belly-fat on them. But Conleth... is even more perfect now.

I hated that scene when Rhaegal got shot down. That was so clearly a stunt double that I’m disappointed in humanity - nobody pointed it out before I did.
It was good as a green pillow in early seasons, and pretty lame as mechanical bull on green screen in the last two. But, I should admit, interesting arc progression.
They spent enough time with George, you'd think they'd pick up on that concept. Idiots. Rushed it to go ruin Star Wars but after the reception of seasons 7 & 8 even Disney wouldn't have them lmao. Disney is perfectly adept at ruining Star Wars themselves anyways
He needs to look in the mirror. Yeah, it's one thing to not rush your story but a whole other thing to take fucking decades to write one book!! Reality should be sinking it to people that he is not going to finish the series. We'll probably get Winds of winter but he'll most likely be dead before A Dream of Spring is finished.
Alice Stockli Stockli The first character I was upset by for casting was Craster. He was a bit too handsome and a bit too clean cut, compared to how he is described in the book.
Kujakuseki01 Craster may not have been super super ugly but he was so fucking gross to me, although i haven’t reached him in the book yet so it might change my mind.
I went through some of the comments and nobody mentioned Harry Lloyd as Viserys Targaryen. He was only on for one season but he dominated every scene he was in and his death was one of the best scenes in the entire series. Honorable Mention to Charles Dance as Tywin Lannister. Without even saying a word, his facial expressions could carry a scene.
English language is so weird. Sean being pronounched shaun/shawn. Although I guess it would've been too funny if he was seen beans. 'Hey Sean Bean, have ye a smithereen of bean that ye'd yield for a new queen of the seen beans?'
Jonathan Devers That’s not true, they guessed Jons mother before they started the series and approached GRRM. Which makes their failure even more spectacular that they transitioned from fans of the saga to its executioner.
Oh, the symbolism. Tywin butchering the deer, the dead direwolf mom in the beginning found with a dead deer (def in the books, not sure about the show). No wonder the Baratheons are almost extinct. :D

Jack Glesson as Joffery. He inhabited that role perfectly. Also it had to be Sean Bean, you can't have a character die and not have him played by Sean Bean.

Charles and Diana made their character much more charismatic and interesting than in the books. Léna is phenomenal but I feel like the writing on the show took Cersei in a somehow different direction than in the books. To me the most accurately portrayed characters are Robert, Davos, Sam, Barristan. Stannis and Renly were also pretty spot on.
Totally disagree on Lena Headey. Her performance is excellent for what it is, she's an amazing actress, but it's nothing like Book Cersei. They have so little in common that they almost aren't the same person. Lena's portrayal of Cersei is radically different from how Cersei behaves in the novels.
Why would anyone want to be Tyrion? He has a pretty unfortunate life, hated by his father, ridiculed by most people in the society he lives in, not to mention his nose is cut off
As much as I love Peter Dinklage for his portrayal of tyrion lannister I'm genuinely disappointed that he didn't mention Charles Dance. Charles Dance done so well as Lord Tywin that I literally can't imagine anything else now.

Maisie Williams was so natural for Arya. She grew up as Arya grew up and still knew who Arya was every step of the way. She had that rawness about her. Of course pretty much the whole cast was perfect. I wouldn’t replace a single one.
Joana Vitorino i don’t think he’s supposed to be charismatic in the show. He’s more the underdog naive guy who sounds a little dumb and who’s always pulling a face but turns out to be the hero. To me that’s how Kit plays him and i think it works wonders for the character.
Lewis Carter I get you’re point, but I’ll always prefer the more charismatic and relatable book Jon, he’s just more interesting. Plus the show having him do essentially nothing in the final season besides saying “she is mah queen” doesn’t really help his case imo
@Horacio Nelson I think season 5 and 6 are better than people think, but I definitley agree on the last two. (btw I hated season 6 at first but I changed my mind after watching it again).
Smoothies he’s “useless” but he’s the one that figured out 2 pivotal things in the story. First, that dragonglass kills the walkers. Second that Jon is Aegon.
To take a character that was in the story for such a short amount of time make you really love him, think he was amazing and kill him so brutally that all this time later we still think of him is such an achievement.
Maybe I interpreted the character in the book differently but I thought pedro Pascal's portrayal was too laid back and charming (still very good) , I imagined the red viper of dorne as dark and dangerous with poisons and such
Kristofer Hivju as Tormund Giantsbane was so surreal! Wished they included more scenes of him in the TV series, but whattan acting crew as a whole ! epic

My favorite part about the casting of the families in this show are that each family LOOKS RELATED TO EACH OTHER! Think about it, Richard, Sophie, Maisie, Isaac and Art all look look like they could be the actual children of Sean and Michelle. Lena, Nikolaj, and Peter look like the biological children of Charles. And Emilia and Harry look like they're actual siblings. They all fit the character description and family description to for right in. Even Alfie and Pilou look like they could be real uncle and nephew. It worked so well with family continuity. She definitely brought a gravitas to Cersei over the book. Much prefer her.
Jack Gleasons stunning performance as Joffrey Baratheon.
Can’t imagine anyone playing Ramsay Bolton as well as Iwan Rheon.
Catelyn Stark by Michelle Fairley was a brilliant performance.
Diana Rigg captures Olenna Tyrell perfectly too.
True! I fully appreciated Iwan Rheon when I saw him in 'Misfits' (he plays an unbelievable complex role there with a lot of ups and downs), but he was great as Ramsay too.
Thank you for mentioning michelle holy cow she made season 2-3 for me after ned died michelle carried season 2-3 and when she died I was crushed Af she was amazingly beautiful
It's not hard playing Ramsay when you hire a psychotic person. Just joking, he did so well that it's like he's not acting.
Clive Russel as the blackfish was able to play the grizzled old soldier who was the black sheep of the family and the disdain he had for others brilliantly
I also think Clive Mantle played the greatjon brilliantly as well
Absolutely nobody could have played Old Nan better. She held together the entire show, we will never forget.

Natalie Dormer as Margaery and Diana Rigg as Olenna are the best casting choices I have ever seen

Nobody giving Nikolaj Coster-Waldau his due as the perfect Jaime is sad.

He was the best
Unfortunately he doesn't know how to hold a sword, which kinda breaks the illusion that he's the greatest sword fighter on westeros.
Nikolaj in an exceptional actor, one of absolute best in the show, but the character he played is unfortunately not Jaime in the book. Not his fault, but D&D gave him an entirely different character compared to his book counterpart.
Liam Cunningham as Davos I thought was a perfect casting choice

Fuzzy Dunlop the supporting cast is just incredible. jorah mormont and berric dondareon were amazing

Honestly yeah he was good, not sure if he should have been fatter, but scale of things is hard to translate.
Isn't he blonde?
George based Samwell off himself
@Smoothies Could you please stop projecting in the youtube comment section?
Smoothies he’s “useless” but he’s the one that figured out 2 pivotal things in the story. First, that dragonglass kills the walkers. Second that Jon is Aegon.
Pedro Pascal is among the best casted characters.
Love the actor himself
To take a character that was in the story for such a short amount of time make you really love him, think he was amazing and kill him so brutally that all this time later we still think of him is such an achievement.
Yes
@@amberkelly3187 his death is still the most heartbraking to me in the show. Never watched it again after it hit me when I saw it the first time.
Wished they included more scenes of him in the TV series, but whattan acting crew as a whole ! epic
Peter dinklage hasnt done enough backflips therefore hes not book accurate lol
My dad and I complained about that when it first came out 😂
aricente George went on to say that he should have omitted that backflip lol. I'm guessing George had a hand in getting that part cut out, Tyrion came across as a goofy clown instead of who he actually is.
@@ricoco7891 it really is one of those things that come across really painfully upon rereading since most of tyrions povs have him bitching about how much his legs hurt and GRRM uses the word waddling very often when describing tyrions movements
aricente
Actually, dwarfs cannot perform any backflips whatsoever.
George acknowledged that afterwards and apologized for the inconvenience
@@ricoco7891 I think it adds to the character. Tyrion had a tough time figuring out who to be in his family and the backflipping backstory both adds family dynamic insights into the Lannisters and adds credibility to Tyrion surviving so many wars despite not being trained to fight. I realize I am in the minority however.
Is... is that a turtle on his hat? That's just too perfect, holy hell.
Yes, his pet turtles killing each other when he was aboy gave him the idea for a Song of Ice and Fire. He also wrote of a telepath called the "Great and Mighty Turtle" who according to him he resembles most of all his characters.
It represents the speed at which he writes the books. 😜
@@tadtranclere3729 Exactly.
Hahahaha. And he wins the race! Woot
the turtle that holds up the world
These are my top favorites:
1. Lena Headey- Cersei Lannister
2. Peter Dinklage- Tyrion Lannister
3. Gwendoline Christie- Brienne
4. Sandor Clegane- The Hound
5. Maisie Williams- Arya Stark
Kim Layman 4. Rory McCann
Sandor Clegane is my favorite actor
Nobody's talking about Syrio Forel, the dance master, first sword of Bravos. The actor's name is Miltos Yerolemou
What do we say to the god of death? "Not today."
He looked nothing at all like book Syrio though.
GRRM: I want Peter Dinklage.
[show happens]
GRRM: Peter Dinklage is too tall.
GRRM:
GRRM: But he’s perfect.
God he’s just like the book fans.
Eh
Yeetwch Y Baban ?
i mean, he was making a joke. and he didn't say he was too tall, he said Tyrion is even shorter.
@@akiwii9925 yes he did. It was a joke obviously, but he absolutely did
This shit doesn't correspond at all to the actual interview. It's like you needed to force this so hard that you cut away everything except some random words out of context.
No one's talking about Michelle Fairley as Cat Stark? I thought she clearly gave one of the greatest performances on the show.
She actually became my favorite until... well
That scream she made when(spoiler 3x9) robb was killed
@@adampjecha2633 I still think that her Red Wedding part, was the best piece of acting we have seen in the show.
Agreed she was definitely a favorited one
Nice choice
Always found it odd the kids mentioned Ned, but never their mom
"Tell the story, beginning middle and end. Not to rush the story" words of wisdom by it's creator. A near perfect fiction; tarnished by greed and impatients.
I am so glad they switched out Tamzin Merchant and let Emilia Clarke play Daenerys. I just can´t imagine Tamzin instead.
Jack Gleeson's portrayal of Joffrey Baratheon was perfect, I loved to hate him.
Joffrey Baratheon*
*Lannister
@Jethro Torczon Was just about to state that very same thing
Jethro Torczon Fuck, you got me.
Stephen dillane as Stannis, Peter Dinklage as Tyrion, Charles dance as Tywin, all nailed it
King stannis
Shibbir Choudhury apologies, King Stannis Baratheon, the one true king of westeros and protector of the realm
infernovoid because he's even Stannis in real life 😂
2:04 "Nope"
Very smart answer hahah
Autism cat confirmed in ice and fire
What are doing here go back to cyrodiil ss boy we need you
You mean 2:14?
Edit: Ohhhh you start at the beginning of the question... I’m an idiot ignore me.
He may be slow with finishing his books, but George is one of the wisest spoken figures living today.
No one felt like an odd one out in their family. They look related and act as so.
*Cough cough Jon snow
… but yes I absolutely agree with you. Especially with Theon and Euron, you just made me re-realise it
The Actors that they Pick up for Ned Stark, Tyrion, Tywin, Cersei, Joffrey, Stannis, Jon S., Daenerys were Absolutely perfect for the character... 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
All gave brilliant performances, but I would have preferred Mark Strong as Stannis.
@@AnitaClue oh piss of pls
@@StormFalcon61 you have a problem with people having ideas or opinions? I wasn't talking to you. Take your own advice.
Emilia Clark's acting was...awful.
@@kiandocherty3589 it was very good at times but not very consistent, I agree. Also Kit Harington in the early seasons. Lena Headey and Michelle Fairley set the bar too high IMO
GRRM comes off as an insanely nice guy in this interview.
Always that tone of surprise :D
oh my
I have followed Diana Rigg's career from The Avengers right on through Game of Thrones. Olenna Tyrell was a fitting epitaph and I can't imagine anyone more perfectly cast as the Queen of Thorns. She and Charles Dance were the best actors on the show.
