They realized they were facing potential legal action and those Steam refunds started pouring in. That's what changed their tune 100%. Soon as Steam said "fk it, block sales in any non PSN country and start issuing refunds" it was all over. Someone at Sony saw a bunch of Steam Refunds come into their inbox and said "WTF is going on" they passed it up to a finance manager and they said "Oh shit, what happen?" and then their boss ran it to an executive who said "But MY BONUS!!!!!" and they changed their bind about PSN requirements.
100% this comes down to some random executive losing a bonus.

This is a rare w against Sony
Sony made this decision.
Possibly, Sony keep demanding that PSN account and Arrowhead instead of arguing simply goes,
_"Go ahead, See with your own eyes how it'll be"_
So technically they already satisfy sony demand and reverse it in few days after all the drama causes sony to fold
Still wont be buying because this game is tied to Sony. I will no longer support those fucks but yes this is a big W, hopefully Arrowhead wont go with them again with their next game

Do you mean phony?

I love the young people
I Don't think that is the end of the deal.
That's just corpo speak for "our shareholders are shitting themselves and told us to fix our mess". Sony has to be mind-numbingly sheltered or egotistical to think this was a good idea to force on Helldivers 2 several months after release.
They are not learning. They are always testing waters
In there defense they are new to "not a fan boy market "
I assume what happened is behind the scenes Sony found out they were breaking the law in multiple jurisdictions and decided to backpedal. They then chose to pretend to backpedal based on consumer backlash. They will still be looking for ways to do this in the future either in helldivers or a future project. Expect to see more quality indie studios captured into working with Sony on dream projects where a Sony account is required on pc from launch.

It is indeed a great day for gamers. But I would encourage users who left negative reviews based solely on the Sony account linking dilemma, to go back in and change their review to whatever it was prior.
This is too good of a game to allow a negative review to be permanent for a feature that has been changed. It is also an excellent sign that the developers, and actually Sony for once, have listened directly to the fans.

My point exactly
I can't believe gamers won this once... I'm speechless
And now gamers are being cuckolds positively rating the game again like they forgot what Sony did, Sony didn't learn their lessons and gamers are still smoothbrain
I don't know if "won" is necessarily what they did. In the process they lost a lot of their sanity, time, and energy, over some stupid corporate greed nonsense which should have never happened in the first place. Sony lost pretty much nothing but ratings on a game it's already done selling, The only thing they've learned is that next time a developer says they don't have PSN linking at launch but will add it later they'll force them to add it for launch or sue their ass, as they'll have made it ironclad in the contract that the game is a PSN exclusive. So ultimately, all the people who would have lost this time, will still lose next time, and all the times thereafter.

It's just a single twitter post. A steam update caused the backlash, they need to show more than a deletable and non binding twitter post
Just have separate databases linked at the backend via API for duplicate matching. You just have to write the PC one so that it will scale with AWS. I think they just do not want to spend the money to potentially host user data twice.
"Future plans..." you know they will try again, and again, and again.
The cynical part of me remembers all the time we "won" against publisher for them to force same thing later on when drama slows down
Oh they are probably going to try something else eventually, but most likely it will at least not lock half the goddamn planet out of playing the game. The forced linkage as one issue, how they would essentially boot over a hundred countries from playing the game alltogether was another.
This, negative reviews should stay and people should refund. Financial failure is only thing that will have lasting effects. I bet they will force PSN account on everyone soon, they will be stealthy about it or they make it optional but will lock half of game behind it.
I'd say the unethical scammy part of this situation has been solved by them not 'stealing' the game back from all the people who bought it who didn't live in one of the PSN countries. Doesn't mean they won't start making everyone sign in to PSN on game launch for every game they make from now on. I don't think that is a particular problem or violation or scam, even if it is really annoying. I know I don't trust any big company not to screw me over, especially a gaming company. The important part is that they aren't taking people's money and they pulling a Darth Vader and changing the deal afterwards to deny people access to the thing the bought for no real reason.

Ruining such a popular game to catch more people in their net is just scummy, this is not learning, it's damage control. They just try something else next time to see what they get away with. This time they just took a too big bite.
Most companies, yes, in this case, its Sony, who genuinely is just that incompetent.
Remember, boys. This is *not* a "Sony W". This is a massive Sony L.
Never let them forget that we remember the shit they tried to pull.
It's a W, because they could have left it that way. Just like Ubisoft always does.
@@KingNiros exactly. They could have doubled down and started insulting players like other companies do (Budweiser style lol) but instead they walked it back. Not used to seeing that these days. Good on Sony.
It's definitely a massive Sony L but hey at least they learned pc players can't read a store page so linking accounts probably won't be necessary for future games
@@KingNiros Did you forget who's decision it was in the first place?

Still not official, Steam still has the requirement listed and they still have the game's forums removed. Also notice the 'we'll keep you updated on our future plans,' part. What exactly does that mean?
After all it's not a promise NOT to bring it in at all but rather "how to move forward". Stay vigilant Helldivers!

Next missions:
- Restore purchasing to those 177 countries.
- Fire / Remove Baskinator, Spitz, Misty, and purple squidgeon or w/e the hell he's calling himself now (he changes it every time he massively pisses off everyone in the discord).

I’ve never seen such a big Uno reverse card. That’s a real community, the Helldiver community.
All they have to do is give in game skins and exclusive gun or support for linking and not require it. I bet a good deal would if they were desirable and unique.
I haven't felt this happy since the D&D community fought back against Hasbaro's unethical attempt to change the OGL to profit from third party companies and won against them, forcing them to keep the old OGL and make it even more third party friendly.
Now if only they had fought back against the wokeification of DnD
@@kutarkTell me you are joking right now, I am laughing my arse off.
@@kutark "wokeyfication"??? For DND of all games??? THE gay game?? LMAOOOOOOOOO
@@kutark What? I know there was some talk about removing the phrase "race" when making your character but that change never took place iirc. Did something happen?
D&D is as woke as Helldivers, one could say 😉
This isn't a win, this is a reprieve. Sony _will_ try this again, either with Helldivers (Arrowhead went against Sony wishes by fighting them, there is going to be firing/layoffs after this) or with another game under their purview.
and when they try this again, they'll be met with the same response. Enjoy the victory.
They will. The studio for Ghost of Tsushima has already confirmed that multiplayer mode will require a PlayStation log in. Single player mode will not require the log in.
i never once believed Arrowhead went against sony, after all, they 100% knew what they were doing all along and went with sony's plans.

All companies will.
Future plans ie. slowly encouraging players to link to PSN with little bonuses until the majority were coerced to link to PSN then they will enforce linking again.

Ruined the developers ratings thus making it looks like a shit game and will prevent future sales? lol

Same, but I do plan to buy it when I have the time for a new game. I wasn't going to if the change stayed.
@@DrewH50 How else do you expect Sony to take notice then? You really think they'll take back the PSN announcement without all this damage?
They didn't reverse the decision based on good will from the feedback of players like they say here. They did it because Steam forced them after the illegal change on the TOS.
EVEN BETTER
Oh wow
do you have the source? I tried finding it but couldn't, I'm interesting this lol
they didn't change the ToS. they changed approach to enforcing ToS from factually optional to mandatory PSN. so idk what's this "change of the TOS" about
@@stclaws9580 Having something that is "optional the entire time" to now "part of the time" is still changing the TOS. "Also, it says ABSOLUTELY NOTHING about the de-listed countries who were literally banned form purchasing Helldivers2 just because of the countries they live in!"
And let's not forget: That was a RESULT of the boycott itself. The game still would be sold in these countries, and the players would be able to create an TOS violating account PSN in a different country (which is normal practice in Asia for example) and STILL play. So the boycott did harm too.
