- After years of hiding from it, it's finally time to play Minecraft... Who knows what I will be mining, or crafting... Well, most of you as I imagine 99.9% of you probably played this game before! Anyway, let's see how a professional engineer gets on with the world's most popular videogame, Minecraft. In later versions but earlier versions pre recipe book would be almost pure guesswork

Loved every second of this, here's a few tips to help you out:
- You can't fall off edges when holding the crouch key, handy for building on a ledge
- Make yourself a bed to skip the night, it uses 3 wooden planks and 3 wool blocks of the same colour
- When in combat, watch the little sword icon underneath the crosshair, wait for it to charge to deal more damage in a swing
- Holding shift while clicking on items in the inventory will instantly move them into a chest, furnace, crafting table etc.
- Lighting up areas will make it so monsters can't spawn, you might want to light up your house and surroundings

Things I just have to add
-When using wood as fuel, then making planks out of it is just far more efficient.
-By double tapping the walk key (or the assigned key), you can sprint, which is faster, but consumes food.
-Falldamage is calculated using the highest block of the fall, so jumping down edges is just killing yourself for no reason.

Interesting to see how the recipe book was actually a really good addition to the game, look how useful it is for new players
I've been playing for a decade and whenever I take a long break and come back after huge updates, I absolutely rely on the recipe book

I’m going to be honest, this is one of my favourite minecraft videos. It’s because it’s his first time playing. I just love it where he has no idea how to play, finding out how to play. I just love this. It’s not a minecraft speedrun, this is not a guy that knows what to do, this is a guy just trying to have fun and play a game. Not following any rules, like instantly punching a tree as soon as you spawn, he just looks at stuff and then does that. And the fact he built a boat before anything else, it’s just nice to see something so fresh and enjoyable. He doesn’t build a house at night, has fun with the mobs. This is not scary, it’s just him having fun. Enjoy himself. This is what I wish loads of minecraft videos are. I wish there where more videos like this. Sadly since there are millions of people that know about minecraft, there aren’t many videos like this. It’s just so refreshing seeing stuff like. Like for example, more than halfway in, 10 minutes, he hasn’t done anything amazing. But I’ve enjoyed this video every second! I’m more excited for the second half. Which makes me MORE excited for the NEXT VIDEO. This is what videos are MEANT to do. Intrigue me into wanting more, which gives you a subscription.
I really love the way you approach the game! You don’t act clueless about everything and you actually are doing your best to understand everything and you are trying anything the game offers you. People who have played Minecraft longer may label some of your actions as being a noob, but I think it is a really good way to discover everything there is to do.

Apparently that was a bug, but it was that way for a while.
@@theInsaneRodent There was a time when some mapmakers put north on a map at the right side, before they agreed on putting it on top. So you could argue that the old Minecraft bug of the sun rising in the north was just trying to imitate mapmaking in the old days, because north on old maps would be where east is on modern ones.

This was probably the best thing I have found today, Matt playing minecraft for the first time, it was like witnessing evolution itself, something like that scene with the monolith and the monkeys, you can only watch and think "he's learning" absolute gold

Love how first-time minecraft players can survive for one night or more, it's like beginners luck (and yes, I do know that he died the first time) yet I can't survive single night in Minecraft during survival without a village nearby 💀
Oh it’s funny because I will either go weeks without dying or my first death will be something really stupid. On the second season of the server I play on, I survived an active month before dying, and it was because I accidentally fell into the 50 block hole I dug
To survive the night when i start a game i just dig a hole and close any access to it, i mine stone and dirt until i'm bored and open to see if it's daytime
That's why as I dig a hole in the hill and call it good for a while.

I am Guessing He does have some prior Knowledge. At least in some parts of the video it very much felt that way
@@dieterreteid6365 to me it felt like he had no prior knowledge since he is missing a bunch of the basic features of the game. Like sneaking along edges, pressing the run button to swim, knowing that gravel falls, knowing that space makes you swim up, knowing any of the recipes before the book gives them to you. The list goes on.

As a recent Minecraft beginner I can totally relate to this. You always find out the tips and tricks way past the point of needing them unless you scrap your original start world and begin again after figuring your blunders, errors and mistakes.

I think we can all agree that playing Minecraft for the first time, is a feeling that will always stay with you. The nostalgia of learning to craft, making your first pickaxe, your first house.
I love how you actually went into Minecraft knowing absolutely nothing and show us your learning process

@@seltrixbl2623 Its why Not Enough Items is the most used mod. Nothing beats an ingame recipe book. No googleing required to understand the game. Would be even better if Mojang made the Recipe Book editable, so NEI can be integrated there, with all the unlocking process etc.
Seeing the learning process is wholesome. Forgot how good noob mistakes are to add the experience into a greater one.

It was so enjoyable to watch someones first time playing and see him discover and figure things out on his own. You just wanna shout at the screen "no no do _______" but then when he gets it your like "there we go" and when he misses it you're like "you were so close to getting it!!" So much fun xD

My son had this game for years before I tried it. Watching him play I always thought “this is the dumbest thing I’ve ever seen.”
But to actually play it myself it’s really great. The discoveries. Ooo, what’s that block? How can I use it?

I showed my mum how to play Minecraft on mobile, and when she looks around, she breaks stuff, so I just gave up cause I don’t want her destroying all my builds
this was initially really infuriating, but its actually quite refreshing to see someone just play super slow and casual for their very first time

The awe and wonder of a new player is something I find ever refreshing to experience, as I can’t experience it myself again. Sad 🥲
Couple of tips for you, think they'd be useful:
• Hold shift to crouch. Crouching makes you not fall off blocks
• Jump before hitting to deal more damage.
• To run, or rather 'sprint', press the walk button two times fast, and hold. Sprinting makes you go faster, but it also uses up your hunger quicker.
• Right click a bed to skip the night. To build (or rather, craft) a bed, use three oak planks and three wool.
• I think you would enjoy making rollercoasters from rails and minecarts. I know we all did that at one point (Please don't tell me it was only me 😟). To make rails use sticks and iron ingots (those are what you get from putting raw iron in a furnace. Raw iron is the cream-coloured stuff embedded in stone). To make a minecart use 5 iron ingots.
• Light up dark areas using torches to make no monsters spawn. Craft torches using a coal and a stick.
• USE COAL AS FUEL FOR THE FURNACE, NOT WOOD!!!

this was great to watch, seeing you break 17 logs by hand and proceed to make all wooden tools was lovely. i remember breaking cobble stone by hand and not understanding where i went wrong

As someone who's played Minecraft for 10+ years I never encountered toxic Minecraft, sweaty yea if you're referring to PvP, but PvP will always be sweaty and there's nothing wrong with that in my opinion. Are you going into like sketchy servers are something?

Awesome watching people discover Minecraft for the 1st time, great video man! It's amazing how much we veteran players take for granted now in Minecraft, I 1st played this back in 2010 and still play to this day, so much has changed, since the beginning! :)
I actually love seeing people experience minecraft for the first time. Reminds me of my first times playing and just warms my heart. I dont find it frustrating at all when someone doesn’t know how to do this thing or that thing :)

no other word than ‘adorable’ can describe your joy discovering the tiny flower forest and the pond you called a “little lake” after experiencing your second iteration of world generation. minecraft seeds are often breathtaking, even in those little simple places. i’m glad you got it right off the bat.

i agree, but when i first started playing (well in my memory, i mightve played it before) was like on pocket edition 5-6 years ago, and i dont know why but i remember myself just cruising thru the game as if i knew what everything did and stuff
now i realise how wrong i was, and i think the best moment in this game ever was when i blew myself up in the end with a bed in pocket edition, good times

I’ve been playing Minecraft for years and it’s so cool to see someone’s first time, watching them figure it out on their own
The hardests parts to watch are the parts where he is really close to figuring out how to do something but just doesn't. Like he builds on the edge of a block but doesn't know to use shift. He almost tames a horse but doesn't ride it enough times. Or like 15:00 where he almost figures out how to extend how far the water goes but doesnt break the right block.
He still needs a saddle…

This was actually amazing. Minecraft is one of the first games I've ever played, it's rules are basically a part of my brain now. I can't remember a time when i didn't know how to play. Watching someone experience this game for the first time is incredible. I was living vicariously through you for the entire time please continue playing. You're really entertaining

WE WANT MORE yeah also do not spam click when attacking mobs wait for the bar to fill up so you can get the most out of each hit and you can sprint by holding control
I always switch the sprint key to shift since it's the most comfortable thing for me since I'm used to RPG controls
I still don't know how I feel about that change.

Yeah some people get really annoyed when someone does something wrong in Minecraft, but I just find it intriguing to see how a complete newcomer reacts because it's so rare to see. Especially considering that I myself never even got to "experience Minecraft for the first time", because by the time I first played it I had already read all four of the handbooks.

There is no real end in minecraft, you can do whatever you want with the world and there is a LOT to explore, you never get bored because well... You do what you want :) Technically the "end" of this game is going to a place called "the end" ad killing a dragon, but after that you get back in your world and continue enjoying yourself :D
I do want to see more!
- Shift to crouch and build off of ledges easier
- Time your attacks so that the sword "reloads" fully to do the most damage, rather than rapid clicks
The tutorial really ought to teach these two things

Tip: Hold down left shift to crouch. When crouching, you're unable to fall off of the edge of a block. You literally sort of float over the edge. It will be super useful for building
And press shift to not crouch anymore

He's Civil, so he may not care about it at all. But as an electrical guy, learning that redstone was a thing is precisely why I started playing.

It's cringy because he knows nothing about the game, and this is coming from a casual who switches between Creative Survival thus hasn't learned much of how to do stuff. But I love it because players like him make me feel like a pro!

one of the most fun things in the Minecraft community is seeing new players work out how to play. It lets me relive my first time playing it on my own! though starting in the 2020s is wayyy different from 2013 lol~ I can see you're way better now, so Imma just watch all these~

“How do I get to the moon?” Haha loved that part. But in all seriousness, Advanced Rocketry is an awesome mod that adds space travel to Minecraft. Build your own Rockets, suits, etc and go to different planets. I think if you wanted to do a mini series on that mod people would eat it up!

After playing this game very casually for a long time, its amazing to see how some of the stuff that comes super natural to me, takes so long for someone completely new to the game to figue out. Really interested to see more of this, can't wait until you understand all of the base mechanics of the game.
I get a lot of the things, but the physics being a little weird has never hit me until he pointed it out. This video is great!

I’ve seen playthroughs from b4 they added a tutorial bit where they didn’t know to hold down on the logs to break them. If I recall right danandphilgames never actually figured it out 😂😭
Simple you and me we all watch RUclips tutorial or get basic understand watching few videos over the years.
This guy is going on blind, I honestly can't imagine that person would play long enough without any research beforehand. I know because my 11 old cousin play Minecraft but don't know how to play probably, I told her watch RUclips tutorials, yes I did try teaching her, but I learn people learn better if they watch them first then they try themselves

Honestly it's been a long time since I've seen a fresh gamer's prospective on this game. And it was very satisfying to watch. Normally you only see people play this for the first time who aren't gamers and that is cringe. This was not like that at all.

Some Extra Tips and info:
Campfires can be used for cooking raw food - and it doesn't require any further fuel
Jumping and hitting something does 1.5x the damage compared to just hitting it (a critical hit)
Double press w to sprint
Sand and gravel are the only blocks that actually have gravity
Press f5 to switch into third and second person
You can break grass to get wheat seeds, and craft a hoe and right click blocks near water with the hoe to plant seeds on them and start a farm
well
anvils have gravity, concrete powder, etc.
yeah the main ones people worry about are sand and gravel, but you're not wrong
These kind of series are way better when fans don't spoil tips and tricks... if you teach them it loses the fun of watching him discover stuff.

Tbh, I'm just really impressed with how easily you learned the basics. I remember the first time I played Minecraft I spent weeks playing until I figured out that I couldn't use wooden tools for everything XD

The campfire can be used as an infinate cooking source for meat. Also enemies can't spawn if it's lit up with torches
You forgot campfire doesn't burn wood like normal fire or lava does 🙃 i could bet his 1st house will be wooden so that would be useful to know so he doesn't see it burn down 🔥
