And that’s one reason many don’t get home very often. When I was otr I had to park at a company drop yard 2 hours from my house. That’s where I left my car when I headed out for work. I got tired of driving 2+ hours to get home after being on the road for 10 days. If I ever go back out it’ll be in MY own equipment. Until then I’ll be hauling oil locally.

Never had this issue. Always worked out where to park by talking to local owners/businesses about letting truck . Thats until I decided to make a spot to park at the house.Started off company and learn quickly to buy my own truck and run under my own so I could buy property to put my own trucks on.Company you will either have to leave at yard or simply work it out with someone local where to park if you cant make a spot at your house.Company trucks are not made to sit , thats why they make divers from east coast run the west and west run the east...

This is the business model folks. We are family oriented. Its getting worse and the 359 pete milk truck delivery days are gone.
We need more self-righteous drivers parking at 1100 am in an open parking lot setting up camera space for "Bonehead."
That way we can prove to everyone that drivers can't drive.
So when 50 trucks come in and jockey for 35 spaces and 25 of those trucks are on their last 15 minutes and holding piss water for 3 hours we can post comments on bad drivers. What do you do? Block the Fuel island, dump your trash, run in use the bathroom, grab a coke and a pizza, head to the on ramp. You have 4 minutes remaining.
Fuck it, block the fuel island near the scales and get a 10hr. Which one gets a ticket/CSA and gets towed faster?
Friggin' boneheads. Don't they know? You need to better plan your traffic, construction zones, flat tires on a 2.5 hour wait on a call-out, interstate wrecks, truck lines at 3 DOT scales, detours, closed lanes and of course 5 pumps out of 8 that are shutdown.
      One minute to go.
In three hours a rap on the door...
Your company explains the protocols for "safety first" and "FMCSR" to being a good driver...after you get the rap.

Think about it, the owners of these truck stops are perhaps lobbying to keep truck rest stops from being accessible, so drivers are forced to park with them. Has anyone noticed that TAs, Pilots, and Flying Js have more reserved spots than ever before. Charging up to $20.00 per night. Most Walmarts aren't allowing overnight at their premises. Kinda forces you to either pay up or park illegally in some instances. The authorities are more than happy to serve citations, that's why they will not do anything about it because it is easy revenue. They know truckers will have to pay up, as it is their bread and butter.

I 100% agree more truck parking is needed. I had to park last night 30 mins before my 14 hr clock expired on the side of the on ramp of 85 just outside Atlanta Georgia. I checked a rest area and a loves before having to settle on the side of the road. I've been in transportation for 17+ years the past 3 months behind a semi-trailer. I've had to park on the side of the road numerous times. But it's not safe but it's all of could do. Some states are better about rest areas, truck parking only and service centers. Other states there nothing for hundreds of miles. Loves, TA, Flying J and Petro can only do so much. States and congress need to clear land on every Interstate N, S, E, W and put 100 parking spots for truckers every 50-100 miles in my opinion.

I understand where you’re coming from as a long haul driver myself, but I’ll strongly disagree on the $100k salary. Some of the individuals in this industry don’t deserve it, and others’ performance don’t justify it… however, more needs to be done on both ends of the spectrum to bring the transportation to the higher ground where it belongs. This applies to the industry, the regulatory establishments, and the public. I’m with you on the betterment of the situation, but the calling for hourly pay and $100k salary is silly at best. I’ll keep my percentage pay, and if I don’t earn, I don’t eat. That’s incentive… if you don’t do everything you can do as close to cheating as you can, you aren’t trying to win. My kids lives and other peoples’ children depend on it. Hustle, and hustle hard. Stay safe out there.

Cities have passed laws that make it illegal for commercial vehicles to park on city streets. Any parking we do have available is being taken over by the homeless with there campers and broken motor homes. The biggest problem, is you can find safe places on the side of the road or in parking lots, but the police come knocking and tell you to move. The police should be barred from disturbing truck drivers who park as long as the truck is not blocking the roadway. This is the main reason my dad hated being a truck driver and he used to cheat on his log book and drive longer than allowed to compensate for it.

Truck stops and rest areas fill up quick when the sunsets and it doesn't matter what state you're in. I've always felt there should be some Government intervention to make sure truck drivers have a place to park and sleep safely without getting ran into on the side of the road, getting a ticket or a wheel lock on their truck for parking in a parking lot, or getting robbed while parked in an unknown unsafe area they're in.

I have been a truck driver for 47 years this has been a problem for decades first off there is no driver shortage that is pushed by what is called megacarriers so they can hire cheap labor or cheap drivers from other countries and as you can see by the increase of accidents through the country that is the problem and now the current administration wants to put 18 year olds in tractor-trailers that can’t even stay off their cell phones with an 80,000 pound tractor trailer definitely not a good move. The New England area is probably the worst for truck parking the Kennedys made it impossible to create more truck parking and truckstops in New England. Most states rest areas are either closed or only have seven or eight truck spots either way truck drivers need access to restrooms showers in restaurant food not fast food and that is another problem but of course nobody in this current administration has anybody from the trucking industry or anybody that has a driving a truck have anything to do with the FM CSA which of course does not make any sense but they just sent $39 billion to Ukraine to fight a war and yet we can’t take care of six dollar a gallon diesel now mind you it takes a lot less to refine oil into diesel than it does gasoline so it makes zero sense white diesel price is higher than gasoline except for it actually has to be bought most trucks hold 200 gallons plus at six dollars a gallon. It would be nice if we had a president and a ministration that thought about the American taxpayers first instead of other countries this is the only country in the world that taxes it’s people and send their money to other countries I’m pretty sure that’s going to be illegal somehow

There is a very simple solution to this whole problem that can be addressed at every local and state government level that involves very little cost. Require all businesses that use /ship/receive trucks to provide long term parking on their sites and in conjunction with local and county officials require all streets in business park and warehouse area to have at least one side of the street available for parking. Example being all the malls , roads leading into and out of Distribution centers like Wal Marts. When building all new warehouses require as part of the building permit process an area for trucks to be staged in before and after deliveries. Require all truck stops to maximize parking by taking out the silly islands with a small tree in it. Common sense ideas will cure this problem with very little cost

Many times we had hazmat and couldn’t park anywhere but a truck stop. The biggest issue is the NIMBY people, stands for “Not in my back yard” they don’t want truck stops near them. They want their stuff but don’t care about how those who bring it are treated. We honestly need more truck stops more then just “parking” because we use truck stops for bathrooms, showers, relaxing, food, and washing our clothes.

I agree with you , but the issue is that, some truck drivers don't keep their parking lights on to stay visible to protect them from 4 wheelers not paying attention , and want to put the blame on the truck driver for being park, and not be accountable for not paying attention. So when all truck drivers can remember to keep parking lights on when on shoulder they might consider giving us that right to park on shoulder.

A lot of Walmarts that used to allow us to park there are now reversing that privilege because too many drivers have been too lazy to walk their trash to the trash can and just litter in the parking lot. A lot of states have banned parking on the shoulder of on and off ramps for the same reason. It's honestly a lot of the fault of irresponsible drivers that has worsened this issue. The one thing we absolutely don't need is for our government to have more control over businesses.

We deliver no matter the weather conditions so everyone can have what they need to live but we have a hard time dealing with no semi truck parking. We don't ask too much, just a place to park even if we can't eat, or use a restroom like any human being, or not shower... Just a place to park ! I Subscribed.

I've been trucking for 12 years and my father for over 25 years. The parking problem has been going on for generations. Neither my father or me ever remember a time where we didn't have to stress about finding parking. The only way to avoid this problem is to drive during the night and sleep during the day and only then you'll be able to find parking because everyone else will be driving during the day and there will be lots of spaces open. But eventually you'll have to switch back over because of appointments or changed times of pick up or delivery. Unfortunately this goverment rather give illegal aliens free cell phones. Free money, free transportation to where ever they want to go, the right to vote in America. Debt forgiveness for college that the tax payers will have to pay for, But we the citizens are always treated like second class. The goverment put ELD's in our trucks and tell us we have to park after 11hours of driving. But when there is no where to park. Sheriff's wake us up in the middle of the night and day that we have to leave or we will get a ticket and our trucks will be towed away. So now we are forced to drive illegally during our 10 hour sleep break to try finding another parking space on a different exit ramp down the highway because there is nowhere to park. This system has been created so that we fail and we look bad everytime. They create rules and regulations and we follow them. then cops tell us we have to break them because we are parked illegally on the shoulder or exit ramp. More rules & more regulations by the government is always wrong and bad. It makes the goverment more corrupt. Now the goverment wants to put speed limiters on our trucks. Instead working on this parking issue. They want to govern our engines. It's unbelievable what's happened to this country. "Power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely"
