- XDefiant released a few weeks ago and it's been a surprising amount of fun! It's a return to a more casual type of FPS fun, and takes inspiration from Call of Duty. More importantly, the game succeeds in giving COD fans things they've been asking for. But... with Black Ops 6 on the Horizon, can XDefiant compete with Call of Duty?

What I love about Xdefiant is if you cook a grenade for too long, the announcer roasts you for that. I found out the hard way

I’d like listening to it for a little while but I turned the announcer off after a bit. Was annoying to hear “They’re invisible, They’re cheating” over and over again in Arena on Hot Shot.

My biggest complaint with Xdefiant is the fact that there are no kill cams. I swear half the time I’m getting shot through rocks on other obstacles
It's the poor net code. Adding kill cams would make that worse but I agree
Net code is dodgy. You were probably already dead on the server but they dumped the damaged on your client late - it happens quite a lot and is the main complaint in reddit. There are a lot of cheaters on pc though as well

The one thing fortnite did right is the more you jump in a certain window of time, the shorter your jumps get until youre basically not jumping at all. Every shooter needs this

Counter Strike is the opposite, the more you spam crouch button , the shorter crouch time you get until not crouching at all
@@s0meRand0m129 it happens with Jumping too, there's a mechanic that's called fatigue. If you don't bunny hop, you'll lose height for your subsequent jumps and lose velocity

16:20 No. As someone who (minus Tom Clancy Phantoms) knows all these series, none of the characters are from their og games. It's more so original characters that are part of their respective factions. Essentially this is like them playing airsoft at a Ubisoft theme park.

It's funny a company took this approach. I think because the market is so saturated, they *had* to be in the position of the 'hero' that completely does the opposite of what everyone hates in every other shooter (p2w, SBMM, OP ability garbage that ruins gunplay) in order to survive at all after the disaster of feedback that was their private beta. Honestly, all for it and it makes me want to give it a try! Though, tread cautiously considering we know what company backed this game and how quickly they can flip once they establish a foothold.

@@Soar_Lean They should make objectives add weapon exp for whichever you have out. That would also help improve the slow exp gain rates and people wouldn't have to rely on double exp weekends as much
Playing objective does award your gun with xp😂 double for getting kills with it on point, I play objective every game and have 2 guns gold now, objective helps leveling up things a lot faster.
@@kingkongsta4051 Except it doesn't, offensive and defensive kills award you with an extra 50 exp on top of the 100 for a kill, and purple medals like longshots etc contribute to your weapon exp. But actually playing on point, getting on the objective, unless you're also getting those kills, doesn't do shit for your weapon xp.
I mean congrats on gold, but a lot of us either don't have the time or the skill to rack up enough of those kills to level up a weapon at a reasonable pace. At level 33, taking advantage of double xp weapons, my 2 most used guns are only at level 15 or so.

You might be in luck, apparently they are adding a feature where jumping will reduce your ability to aim quite a bit, making bunny hopping less of an issue than it currently is. Is it perfect, not yet, it's a nice start though.

This has already been addressed including netcode patches, Sniper nerfs (flinch), bunny hop fatigue with gun sway like in the beta. The patch should be here this week

If you’re not doing good, you’re an average or below average player. Which is perfectly fine but you don’t understand how much cod sucks for good players. I play iridescent players EVERY game. That is actual sweats every game. Not just a good collection of players of all skill levels like an xd lobby. Take xd as a learning experience and an opportunity to get better and learn from the better players you are playing against.

Yes the crux of sbmm is good players are punished. It would be nice to see exactly what % that is. But I don’t see how having none helps. If you’re so good that majority of players are worse how’s that fun for the ones being absolutely destroyed. I get it sucks to play against sweats but if you’re the top 1% of skill that would imply 99% of matches you’re destroying and ruining the game for people.

I'm a bit surprised he didn't cover the ungodly grind to get any attachments since every gun has 50+ levels with attachments locked by level (I played for a week or so off launch so I've no clue if they changed this)

I kinda agree. While I would like to see some familiar faces, for the feeling and the advertisability, It would feel more like "Marvel Rivals" where all they do is using established names to push a game instead of letting the game establish itself.
This is my thing since the first COD game you could customise your character (don’t remember which one though) I loathe that feature personally because when the whole team is displayed it looks like it’s a team of rebels instead of operators. Same things with BFV. And by the way, I am talking about changing a beret for a or a funny mask or a character from a famous TV show or just any celebrity. I’m not talking about wearing a different colour bulletproof vest or different headphones or night vision because that’s all fine

Mint Blitz has a video talking about how a lot of modern shooters use an engagement based SBMM that’s tailored to keep you playing, but not necessarily enjoying it. He cites people like the guy who built MM for Halo 2.
That’s why I think XDefiant has a nicer feeling MM system.

casual and laid back are not words i would use to describe Xdefiant.
None of the operators are actual characters from the respective franchises, only their gadgets is what connects them to it. It is very easy to tell if you look at the new faction “GSX” based on the R6 Siege faction “GSG9”, instead of having the actual operators like Jager, Blitz, Bandit or IQ, we got three random characters that have their gadgets, the trophy system from Jager and the Flashing Shield from Blitz, and the universal defensive gadget from R6 Siege which is barbed wire.
i do kinda support that tbh. makes it such that there doesn't have to be any canon implications or teases for the future of a certain character or game (looking at you, splinter cell 👀)
@@zeep3047 yeah I agree too. With how Ubisoft keeps shoving Ezio in every game across the genres, it cheapens the value of the character. I'm fine with Ezio's outfit being in the game, but not Ezio himself. However, I think they can use the known characters for a short story in a PvE mission or game-mode and give players a taste of the character's origin game. At the end of the day, it is Ubisoft's biggest advertisement, so they might as well show us why their games are worth playing.
Imagine somehow becoming trapped in the Animus and Rebecca and Sean help you escape that. But they need to you to decode some of the Assassin's memories inside Animus to find something that helps you escape. Or just let us fight the Spider-Tank alongside Wrench while Prodigy's The Day is My Enemy blaring, that's all I need.

While the game isn't perfect, one criticism I've seen that I find funny is saying there isn't anything to grind for, which apparently means the game is boring.
Bruh, grinding should be complimentary to the main experience. The game itself is FUN, that's what should bring you back to play it again and again.

Killstreaks in COD were literally the definition of the Rich get Richer. It was satisfying when you got them yourself, but it made it feel very difficult to come back when the enemies had them, while also encouraging camping and hiding. That's why I thought the change to Score Streaks and especially the Support Packages from MW3 (2011) were so good, it actually did the opposite, encouraging you to get out there and secure as many objectives and put yourself in risky spots to get kills because even if you died it didn't negate all of your efforts, but the rewards weren't crazy impactful (except for the stealth bomber) so it also didn't feel like it was difficult to come back if the enemy team is pulling ahead.
Edit: (not important to my previous point)
We never got the chance to try it in an official capacity, but I think a hybrid system would be ideal. You get score streaks as you do now, but whenever you die, instead resetting your score back to zero, it only resets it a certain amount, let's say 400 Points. That way people aren't going to hide for minutes on end because they are one kill away from a high tier streak reward, but they also aren't going to run around like a maniac trying to aggressively get as many kills as possible regardless of how many times they die since they don't get punished for dying. Basically, you just wanna keep your Score/Death ratio pretty high and that's how you get rewarded. BUT, you can't unlock the same streak rewards on the same streak, you will need to either die enough times that it sets you to zero, unlock all your steak rewards so it wraps around, or switch your loadout/class. (this prevents the obvious issue of getting a killstreak, dying, and getting that same killstreak even faster than the first time due to not losing all progress)

Support was the best. Juggernaut armor but just a pistol was such a great design choice
You could go 18-60 in mw3 and get killstreaks tho with the support streaks. I dont think rewarding players for dieing over and over and being bad is neccasirly good either. I liked score streaks more from bo2 cause they encouraged you more to play the objective but you still had to get a killstreaks.
@@wes8061 You don't get rewarded for dying, you get rewarded for doing things while not being a camper about it.
@wes8061 no one was going 18-60. To get 18 kills in regular TDM you'd have to account for 25% of the score board. Bad players weren't ever getting it. The kill streaks they could get only happened once a match unless the lapped it, and most of them are very tame.

Nah sorry buddy. Ubisoft only publishes the games and does the micro transactions. The studio develops them. The sad reality of the gaming industry is that big companies make better games. They pump them out faster, and they can market the hell out of them. When's the last time you heard of an indie game getting the same level of success as a AAA game? Half of the micro transactions aren't even that bad, and are totally optional.

What i love about this game is the ttk for most weapons is exactly the same so you could play with whatever you feel more comfortable with and don’t be at a huge disadvantage

With that said, ubisoft isn't paying actman for an 18min video if it would provide negative publicity for Xdefiant. The video is essentially an ad for Xdefiant. Sure he provided some negatives to make the comparison seem more fair, but the moment some is being paid by one of the competitors you can immediately dismiss whatever they said after.

When his channel is dedicated to reviews and you have totally sponsored videos mixed in with reviews it's not great. Just like his payday video. I know he's acknowledged that, but let's be real, the money absolutely affected how he presented that game and look where it is now. I enjoy his videos and channel, I just wish the line between sponsored and not wasn't so blurry.

16:09 None of the characters are from the games the faction is based on, they are only inspired by the characters in that game. For example even though the abilities in the upcoming R6 faction are from R6 (Jäger’s ADS and Blitz’s shield) all three characters are original and only based off of the R6 operators.
