Mid, fun for the repeatable quests for me but fully mid, absolutely dog water drinking intern redditor level writing.

@@spacecowboy1438 I mean, their dialog has always been a meme. I think what made FO4 irritating compared to other BGS titles, and made this game intolderable at times, is the way the game has gotten more realistic looking and the voice actors are better. Like, having such realistic graphics and decent actors have lines that are coded to be played at the most inoportune moments, ruining pacing, and rarely matching facial animations that are either pretty good in some cases, or god awful in others. Theres just a level of inconsistency that makes the game feel like it's all over the place. I am almost done and decided to do UC Vanguard as the last content I have to wrap up - and am blown away that they had this awesome idea for mech war and xenoweapons - even making the god damned meh models and worlds evestated by all out war.... But it all happened before the game started............... Instead we get a god damned scavenger hunt that acts as if it wasn't obvious what the starborn are, especially after people saying "NG+ is tied to story" which completely spelled it all out the second I saw the Emissary's ship.. I'm going to stop.... I still have more to play.
I fucked up by playing Phantom Liberty first lol, but at least Isaved BG3 for when I'm done with Starfield

Wow that actually would have been so good haha. Another missed opportunity. it’s such a small component of the game (letting the player control the ship and other vehicles) but it takes away so much from the over all experience. smh

its better to write it as a point to push his dumass woke agenda then to see and say the obvious, litrly everyone says you shuld be able to enter a planet even if it kills you.
I think you should be able to approach a star, black hole, or gas giant and be realistically annihilated. It would be a lot funnier to see the tweet of a man who doesn't understand why his ship was turned into a singularity vs someone complaining that they can't approach the celestial body in the first place.
In Ultima 2 (very old game now!), you could fly your ship into the sun if you entered its coordinates. It was game over if you did!
For the gas giant I'd say a good thing to show would be the sound of a can being crushed on a black screen, the black hole would just be a black screen, and a little animation from far-off where your ship is just a tiny speck just a bug zappering itself into the sun would be funny

Can't swim in a spacesuit? My brother in Christ, NASA literally trains astronauts underwater in space suits.
Pretty sure you could use power armor when swimming in Fo4, you'd just be stuck at the bottom. Apparently bethesda was capable.
It's not a full suit just one that floats abit in water so they train their muscles and muscle memory.
The coast guard brought some of these to my school during a recruitment day once they felt super weird like trying to swim with pool noodles under your arms.

In Warframe we land on what's basically a mining platform for gases and ngl that would be kinda sick to see something similar in starfield

They tell us that pronouns don't matter so stop being so fragile, then went on a banning spree for anyone that wanted to uploaded a simple mod that removed that option. They double speak to the end of time and you defend them, which is how you lose your credibility among gamers.

From what I gather it depends on your suit and whether it's corrosive or not, hence why if you stand for too long your suits integrity goes off
Well an N95 mask won't protect you from everything. The same way a space suit won't protect you from everything.
@@jcarirthe primary function of a space suit is being airtight. If it allows gasses to get inside the suit then its by definition not air tight. My issue was not that it doesnt protect against everything, but fails at the primary function it suppose to have.

I mean heck in Fallout 4 you could jump from the top of a skyscraper in power armor and you’d be fine or how FromSoft protagonist’s can carry hundreds of weapons and clothing pieces and only get encumbered when they equip them

this was his initial impression, which many other did share at the time as well. In his later video he did say it was a disappointment while he did like playing it a bit.

Spoilers, but there is a quest where you fly into the outer atmosphere of a gas giant in Starfield. But part of the quest is assembling a special shield upgrade to not get melted by the EM emissions of the gas giant and even then you take constant damage the entire time you're in there.

The most disappointing thing to me was not being able to go under water. Meaning no aquatic exploration.

No Aquatic? After I've put 25 30 hours into the game there is no sense of exploration at all. No matter where I go I see roughly the same things with a bit of variation.

Act man seen all the good reviews and thought that the popular opinion would be to praise the game. As people began to see how shallow the game is, he soon realized that was a mistake.
@@wyattgeorge9696 he made this video during his playthrough of the game though. He liked it then and still likes it a bit, but now says it's a disappointment from Bethesda and could have been much better. The takes he talked about here weren't about actual criticisms about the game like th terrible map screen, bad UI design, horrible AI, bad texture work, loading screens, bad enemy designs, bad bounty system etc. Instead he talked about the idiotic takes people were having like 'you should be able to land on gas giants" and the pronouns rant (which honesty made him look like an idiot).

Ironically enough to everyone complaining that you can’t go into gas giants, there actually is a part of the pirate questline where you do get to go into a gas giant for a short period and it practically melts through your ship for the few seconds you fly through it.

@@AQS521 Pressure, pressure crushes the ship like tin can in gas giant atmosphere. In this hypothetical case I assume the shields are thing holding for a bit.
@AQS521 well it depends, gravity on Jupiter for example is only really about 2.5 times that of earth. The danger comes from heat and weight of the gas above you if you go deep into the planet.

Well you can go to a gas giant and land near it, but it requires a completion of a quest line that is great 👍
"Woke" isn't just "contrived", it means valuing group identity over individual rights, merit, and aptitude for a given task. For ex Holdo represented a girl-boss trope, and existed in the narrative (barely) just to deconstruct the male protagonists. In this case, the woke element is a type of feminism. I think you're jumping to "contrived" because you're assuming these woke elements exist in a narrative setting like Starfield or The Last Jedi, and they don't, necessarily. In recent memory, what we refer to as woke is characterized by a political movement that tries to gather members of disparate protected classes to its cause, usually by framing enlistees in a Marxist-style class struggle between oppressed and oppressor. Your New Vegas example, the fascist wanna-be, was also contrived, but wasn't particularly woke.

Also, swimming/diving in their spacesuits is literally how astronauts train for EVA because it's the best way we have here on earth to simulate zero-G for meaningful periods of time

@@BigHailFan I used to listen to his interesting takes on the video game industry about a year ago and decided to subscribe because of his quirky skits and humor which juxtaposed his serious takes. That and his friendly dynamics with other creators such as Mutahar and Asmongold added a layer of sincerity that blinded me to the red flags.
Then I noticed some anomalous behaviors that other previously subscribed to him mentioned in some of his videos. These include his difficulty taking criticisms during his feud with Quantumtv. He had his reasons sure but the way he deflected and acted became irrational clued me in to what would be recurring patterns going forward.
What finally made me certain was the duplicity he displayed during more recent events especially that of Payday 3. I checked this with how he acted with Quantum and lo and behold it was a recurring theme. He strikes hard and fast when he's certain when he can win and hides quick and becomes irrationally defensive when attacked. He has human flaws sure but that to me outweighs his humor and interesting takes.
Honestly they should let you fly into a gas giant just so you can hear the people on the ship panic as you fly into the planet

They did something like this is Mass Effect Andromeda. Whenever you drove near a cliff edge, your crew would freak out. It got really annoying, really fast

Yeah I think that's why some players are a little bummed out, is because Starfield doesn't let you find out the hard way... they just 🐔-block you with barriers instead of a death wall which would be just as easy to implement but infinitely much cooler.
Kryx's Legacy sends you into a gas giant to board a lost Galbank transporter and download the credits.
I think it would've been neat to be able to land on stars and gas giants just for your character to immediately vaporize.
You would burn up well before even coming close to landing. 😂

The pronouns were not a major element of the game and it didn't affect the overall product..... yea its a bad game but not because of pronouns.
He was also wrong. What triggered his rant was the miscommunication that a character was transgender.
She wasn't transgender. she was the technicaly 'clone' of a man, and she explains that she wouldn't entirely count as a 'clone' cause she was mde from gene editing to retain and improve the traits of the predecessor, be a replacement. still designed to continue a legacy and be equivalent to him.
The game literally explains that shortly after. 'but your a girl' is an option. He ignores that and basically is shouting transgender slurs.
Actman literally watched the stream for full context.
The point about 'ideologies' means jack shit when your jumping point isn't even a good example of what you are ranting. Its him mistaking a character for transgender and then bringing up the pronoun option.
Now maybe he'd have a better jump off point in terms of spiderman 2 with a lot of more hamfisted elements in there. For example they made mary jane kinda ugly, or at least a lot less conventionally attractive to the piont she looks nothing like her appearance in spiderman 1. There are things like helping a gay teen ask out his crush (though that is 100% somehting spiderman would do regardless of sex). Mary jane's op taser and how it contradicts with how the peeps she's tazing are able to hold up against spiderman a little bit.

Nor does it mean that actman is hypocritical for his critique of sweet baby inc. He deemed starfield's 'woke elemnt' as insiginifact. There is ltierally no harm in having that there. He deems sweet baby inc's actions as toxic and bad, cause there is an actual negative effect from them.
@@taddad2641 You're missing the bigger picture. It goes further than just pronouns. Everything in the game was created around the idea of being inclusive, which is why it's so boring. The pronouns were just one of the more obvious signs. If you actually pay attention, everything in the game follows the woke archetype, it's just more subtle than the pronoun screen.

I haven't even played Starfield, or Diablo 4, or Hogwarts Legacy, but the heated discourse surrounding all 3 of these games has provided me with more content and entertainment than the games themselves ever could have if I'd played them.

The funniest thing about the swimming in a space suit drama is the fact that at nasa, to become a astronaut you literally have to swim in your spacesuit as part of your test.
Plus the biggest swimming pool in the world is at NASA they test their equipment under water since it simulates different pressures and gravity

For the "mass effect gas giant thing", yes you can go to a gas giant in the game. Its the shadow broker DLC. You are on a space ship though for the entire mission. :D
Yeah, but it's all in a space station in the upper atmosphere of a gas giant, and even then the only reason the station can survive is because of the forcefield that Mass Effect fields can create.

If you want an actual gas giant that you visit in Mass Effect (also in ME2) then look no further than the brown dwarf that contains the derelict Reaper.

Yes, NASA trains astronauts in giant swimming pools. Also because it sort of emulates the feeling of weightlessness. So it's also not ridiculous to assume that with future (lighter weight) spacesuits, swimming would be entirely possible...
Not to mention it would make sense to design the spacesuits with buoyancy as a feature on the off chance you did fall in water deep enough to swim in

Its also why some car can "bounce" upward after crashing into water. And takes time to actually sink into the water, as the air leaves the entier of the car
Its also why early deep sea divers needed weights to keep them on the sea floor
Heck there's even an argument that the space suits in starfield actually make it harder to swim below the surface. Since they are effectively ultra light human shape balloons.
Something I wanted to add at the end but forgot is this isn't an excuse to not have under water swimming in game. Its a counter to anyone who says that it's unrealistic for a person in a space suit to float on the surface of the water.
And all things considered I would had like to be able to explore underwater especially on those planets that had those opening to what seem to be underground ocean/lakes.
But I can see why they didn't bother.
My hot take is that the majority of the game is the worst part of Fallout 4. You know the parts where you're running around in between places, and you find a house with some raiders? That's what a lot of Starfield feels like.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who felt this way. I just couldn't get into the game, there's no hook for me like there is in previous bethesda games.
The main story arc presents no apocalyptic threat to be averted.
There are minimal stakes in play, and those that exist threaten the main character as much as any other mortal danger.
I nearly refunded this game on the first day, I pushed beyond the first 6 hours, and man was it worth it. UC Questlines really sucked me in, already have plans for a potential 2nd and 3rd playthrough.

Your understanding of what "woke" means is incorrect. It's not a term the right or anti-SJW types came up with. It's a term progressives came up with to call themselves. More specifically, black activists came up with it to mean that they are "awake" to/aware of racial issues. And then it was adopted more broadly by progressive activists in general to mean they are "awake" to/aware of myriad other issues that progressives talk about. "Woke" basically just means progressive at this point.
The way the game handles pronouns shows that the game has accepted the progressive gender paradigm. I don't think it's out of bounds to call that woke.

If Rockfield doesn't improve within the next couple of years, then it'll remain a mediocre game.
When you look at Starfield as a full overhaul mod of Fallout 4 it makes a lot more sense as to why the game is the way it is.

To be fair with the whole running around the circumference of the planet thing, in No Man's Sky, one of the most freeing things you can experience as a new player is to just fly a starship around a planet without ever hitting a wall and do crazy maneuvers with it. You get around really quickly while also looking for things to mine. You could do the same with ground vehicles too, and with the variance in terrain its actually pretty fun to just drive around with your truck and dig up stuff off the ground.
Starfield has an actual story, killing, space combat, joining factions and doing side missions for them. Does no man sky do that? Also, at no man's sky launch it was horrible

I mean they could have the cities arm a “shield” that protects them from the elements. Like say you land on a hot planet, the city is fine but you step “out of bounds” you start taking hella damage and get a extreme temp alert. Same with cold, same with stormy planets, I think that would be a neater way then letting the player walk for 8 to 10 minutes only to find out there’s a invincible wall.
Imagine walking up to this slightly transparent wall and thinking “TF is this?”, looking past it, then seeing like powerful winds and rain blowing shit around, intense mirages from the heat cause the planet doesn’t have a strong atmosphere, or just straight up frozen trees and rocks.
I could only put 11 hours into Starfield before I could no longer take the boredom.

Can't say anything definite about Starfield because I refuse to pay full price for any game ever, but it looks really bland and uninspired. I've also grown to hate how bafflingly bad Bethesda's writing and quest design is.

On the whole it isn't a big deal thing. Even as someone who doesn't really care about the pronoun debacle, I did find it alarming that mod sites like Nexus mods are actively taking down mods that remove pronoun selection all together, I mean Act Man was even community noted about this on Twitter.
Why would you need that though? When you pick the male or female body, it automatically picks the set of pronouns that your body type is typically assigned to.

What's interesting tho is that a lot of people didn't shine a light on the fact that Az didn't have the meltdown at the start of the game, but about 7 hours in when there was another modern day moment in the game. One of my biggest complaints comes via my 11 year old daughter who is a huge space nerd. Where the hell is the crater on Mimas? I asked her to pick any moon she would want to visit in our solar system and she picked Mimas so we could walk around the giant crater only to find that it wasn't there. Other than that and a glitch where registering a ship at a spacestation made the spacestation my ship somehow I've been having a great time

The funny part of the Alanah Pearce clip is that, in her response to "she should be fired for covering Starfield while being a Sony employee" she basically stated that the "Console War" doesn't exist inside the industry. She said that game dev spots in companies are so limited that people will go for them regardless of who its for or where they come from, and that, while working for Sony, she has a lot of coworkers who came from Microsoft or Nintendo, and none of them care about the "Console War" and they find it weird that so many fans have such a tribalism "us vs them" mentality that they do
Maybe they don't perceive or realize it but it definitely exists. Less so now but that's only because they each stopped making every other game a console exclusive. Which is what fueled most of the fan tribalism in the first place.

@@whitmanmalemanReal. I think it also stems from them trying to widen the market to people who aren't gamers. It used to be a niche to like video games but now it's cringe to even say "gamer" because everyone plays video games. A bad direction for the quality of the art in my opinion.
