- My guest is the prolific true crime author Harold Schechter, who returns to talk about his latest book, "Hell's Princess: The Mystery of Belle Gunness, Butcher of Men". He tells the story about the legendary Norwegian immigrant serial killer who lured men to her Laporte, Indiana farm and murdered them, before a fire finally destroyed the farmhouse and killed her children, and allegedly her as well.

Harold Schechter is my favorite true crime author. Please have him on whenever possible!!
I'm convinced that Belle did not die in the fire. The headless corpse was another of her victims. I know for a fact that in a fire the skull is the last thing to burn. I had a 5 year old nephew that was murdered & burned up, along with his parent's, & all that was left of him was his skull. When a person is eaten by a large cat the only remains that are found is a gnawed skull.
you need to interview Mr. Schechter again about his book The Devil's Gentleman. I think it's a good case and very underrated
I have to admit, I would go to this carnival and buy souvenirs and cake.
This guys speech affect is maddening. The song-songs my way he ends his sentences simultaneously raising the pitch is fucking bizarre
Great story mr schecter. Done it again.

Just finishing this one! I've read most of all of Mr. Schechter books! I loved 'FIEND!' Now that Charles Manson is finally deceased, I think a 'Schechter' version on the whole tale is in order; no one is quite as qualified as Harold to write the "final word" on 'Manson.'

I've read numerous times that she used strychnine, not arsenic. Strychnine is a terrible way to die. She must've enjoyed seeing them suffer.
please do one on Wineville Chicken Coop Murders
I spent the first 18 years of my life in Laporte Indiana I've been hearing about this lady pretty much my first 18 years of my life I think she got away but who cares I don't
I'm surprised Belle didn't kill Ray too
What song is that?
Belle died years later in California.
Hopefully there will be an episode on ted bundy. Lots of renewed interest in recent months on this depraved monster.
schechter's speech cadence is annoying as hell.
every sentence ends as if it's a question.
I was wondering if anyone else noticed.....
@@ryankelly5020 I noticed but I didn't want to say anything!
This author drones on and on annoying as hell.
Very interesting story, but agree with other commenters that the constant ???? at the end of each sentence is EXTREMELY annoying. I've noticed that a good author is not necessarily a good interview.
