My grandpa witnessed a murder when he was 11 years old. He was in a shack with his cousin playing cards or something and a fight broke out between two adults he knew over a woman. One shot the other in the head. He had to testify and no one believed him or his cousin, so the guy got away with it. We just found out about this a few months ago. He’s 83. Now we know why he was so mean and overprotective for a lot of his life

Is your aunt still around? If so, has she talked about the short time, that she was with him? It would be an interesting read, if she was willing to share that part of her life. I have a female acquaintance, that's a psychic, that dated him a few times. She had some peculiarities, about him, when they were together.

John C. Scott Ulm was in his early 20s, working at KTKT when he did that interview. I did ask John if he still had the tapes when I ran into him at a radio promotional at a local store about 10 years ago. He said he did. I am not sure if he is still with us. He told me that Alleen Rowe's brother worked at KGUN, with John, as a camera man during the time of her disappearance. It was still considered a missing persons case and John explained to me, that the staff they had to be sensitive to him, about speculating any wrong doing in regard to the case.

I was 12 years old when the Life magazine story was written of "The Pied Piper of Tucson". I was fascinated with how women would fall for this man. It is stuck in my head how he wore boots that were too big and stuffed paper into the toes to make them fit. The oversized boots represented his overinflated ego and I never forgot that.

I love her use of technical terms like "just crazy" and "going nuts".

Why did her father drop out of high school in the ninth grade, and didn’t his parents object?
And the first victim (I haven’t finished listening to the entire interview yet) wasn’t just murdered but was also raped by two men, which makes it even more horrific.
That fact seems only to have been mentioned in passing.
    And what about specific years?
And the word “sad” gets overused.
What happened to those girls was brutal and sadistic not just sad.

Professor Richard Shelton (Univetsity of Arizona) possesses Schmid's poetical output. It would be nice for these to see the light of day. Lots of parallels between Schmid, Starkwether and Manson.
