  • The subject of today's episode is Henri Landru, the most notorious serial killer in French history. He placed advertisements in Paris newspapers in the late 1910s, preying on lonely women left behind as French soldiers marched off to war. While he would eventually be tried and convicted on twelve counts of murder, Richard Tomlinson, the author of "Landru's Secret: The Deadly Seductions of France's Lonely Hearts Serial Killer", believes the actual murder count to be higher, and he explains why on this final episode of Most Notorious for 2018.

Neville Heath (1917-19346) didn't kill as many women as Henri Landru; however, he did use the backdrop of a war torn country (England after WWII) as his hunting ground. If there is a book about Neville Heath, you might consider interviewing the author. There are several documentaries about Heath on RUclips.

There is a book on Heath. I read it once a few years ago. From what I remember, it dispels some common myths about the case and about Heath.
It's called 'Handsome Brute' by Sean O'Connor.

I could not listen to anymore of this video, was hanging in there for almost a half hour, but there was so little detail about anyone, or any of the disappearances that I had to bail. Maybe his writing is better, but this was a real sleeper. God bless.

Yeah, what ended it for me was at around the 32 min mark, the author started talking about "genetic mental illness", which is bull enough in itself, but his "proof" for this supposed "genetic mental illness" being in the family was Landru's father committing suicide, while Landru was in prison. Like, really??? 1 person committing suicide doesnt mean, the entire family has some sort of mythical "genetic mental illness", especially when it might just as well be so many other reasons, such as the father being shamed by his son being a criminal in prison. Quite a stigma at that time. Not to mention, that committing suicide isnt a sign of mental illness at all, in fact, almost all suicides do NOT have mental illness. Many may be depressed for whatever reason, but depression is not the same as mental illness. Not at all.
And he keeps slinging out all these assumptions and pseudo science bs and gives no factual details for his claims. Useless. And far beneath the usual standard of this channel.

The guy keeps bringing up misogyny, which seems a bit unnecessary. You could crowbar that into any discussion circa 1915. The men were so misogynistic, they didn't even think women could be slaughtered in pointless trench warfare. Those bastards!
