Honestly, any program that you're still doing after a YEAR shows how good it is. Appreciate the long term 1 Year update. Price point might be a turn off for some, but if you actually use it, then it's worth it IMO. (Not a power lifter, just a home gym addict)
Yeah i think it boils down to how you look at it. If you're used to doing free programs, it seems expensive. If you're used to paying several hundred a month for online coaching, it's a steal.
As a guy who has paid coaches monthly fees that are double this program is cheap. I'm going to give it a go.
Thanks! You’re the man
appreciate you all.
Felicidades Brandon. What a way to enter mid life, setting two State records. Good on you. Enjoyed the info. At 72 now, I’m gonna stay a Wendler 5-3-1 guy forever.
One of my favorites too.
Love this program. The app is great and the programming is really solid. I’d add that the FB group for users is the most positive, supportive, and helpful lifting groups I’ve ever been a part of. Chad will answer questions periodically as well. Not sure where he finds the time!
True that, not toxic like most other FB groups.
I am getting ready to start week 15 tomorrow. I am loving the program and have increased weight on all three lifts. I will switch to PowerBuilding next cycle to give it a try.
That’s awesome.
I have had the app for a year and continuously have been restarting the program. I went back to a linear progression. I'm hoping back on in a few weeks. Appreciate the review
Right on! Best way the app works is by using it and being consistent with ratings! Let me know if I can help!
Totally agree, I've stopped and now restarted through the holidays and an injury, but always get back to the program. Solid balance, plenty of options, and no judgement if you need to change things up or just not having a strong day. Highly recommend it.
My dude. Long time no talk. Hope you’re healing up. Let me know if I can ever help!
You’ve covered this program quite well and it’s nice they’re giving away some trials for your efforts there. I’m still very intrigued and will have to give this program a shot at some point. There’s something to be said for the simplicity of a power lifting program, and yet this one seems very robust and well thought out. Thanks B!
it's been nice to find something that's continued to work so well for this long!
Chad and the team are awesome! Would love to check out their gym in Orange County, CA, one day.
I think they moved out of that space a few years ago
@@BasementBrandon You're right! I actually tried reaching out a while back to their old Laguna Niguel location (only to find out it closed). To clarify, I'd like to check out Chad's personal gym! (He has a pretty sweet tour on his channel). It would be awesome to train with him in person!
Happy New Year, great to see you!
Happy new year!
Nice review. The volume was a bit much for me but I'm probably just not quite prepared yet for powerlifting training again. Been enjoying the hypertrophy work for now :)
Yeah the hypertrophy blocks on this one can get to be quite a bit much!
Great work Brandon, got some exciting features getting added this year!
Thanks for all your hard word dude!
This was really good and helpful. I’ve been CrossFitting for almost 10 years. I’m 43 and I want to start powerlifting. Been looking at Juggernaut. This was good 👍🏾 info 🙌🏾
I've been enjoying it!
Nice man. Can't wait to try the PL after finishing off another PB cycle. Just like you, I do enjoy doing the competition lifts more regularly.
Get it dude!
max hour and a half a session? Impressive, most impressive. On avg. how long do you rest between sets?
For bigger movements 3-5 min. For accessories as little as possible.
@@BasementBrandon Thanks. Makes sense. Do you actually time the rest periods?
@@gaberoo9099 I don't. I've always just tried to take as long as I need (without over doing it). If you ever do a bridge block it actually has timer specific sets which were brutal lol.
@@BasementBrandon Thanks. Makes sense. Agree...I've done timed rests (with timer) and it is brutal.
@@BasementBrandon Hey Brandon love your videos, I was wondering if the AI app auto regulates your gym sessions when inputting that you're in a caloric surplus or do the volume/sets stay the same?
It's been a bit hit or miss for me. It's gotten me to some lifetime rep PRs on squat/dead and a 315 bench (finally), but I'm also constantly dealing with injuries due to how the app likes to push higher RPEs. I've had to start using the in-session readiness ratings to forcibly adjust things to a level that I can actually sustain. This is the second time I've gotten to this three month mark with the same issues, so not sure if I just need to continue with this approach until the app gets things dialed in better.
Well if it's RPE based sets, it shouldn't be too taxing if you're hitting the right RPEs right? I mean outside of max effort weeks the highest RPEs are 8s but for me they're usually a 7.
Higher RPEs as in how high?
@@BasementBrandon The top set ranges are generally right on the money. Problem is more that I can't handle a lot of volume at higher intensities, and the app is always trying to push the backdowns and even secondary/tertiary days back up to the 7-8 range. For a full block I was inputting 2s and even 1s into the end of week review, and it didn't really scale anything back when I compared the program to what it'd be if I entered a 3. I think I have things under control now by utilizing the in-session ratings, but it's a lot of manual adjustments and that kind of defeats the purpose of the app. Not sure if I was just expecting too much of the app's ability to adapt based on input.
Are you really giving it honest feedback on RPE and readiness scores? I've used it for over 6 months and I've only had RPE 10 a few times and otherwise it rarely gets me above a 7, and almost never above an 8. If anything, my complaint is that it doesn't push high enough RPEs...
@@fencingrocks3 I'm pretty comfortable with my RPEs, and I film at least my top sets to make sure I'm rating things properly. Like you said it doesn't go above 8 except for the rep max weeks, but it tries to put a lot of the weekly volume in the 7-8 range and that just doesn't work well for me.
been on it since last april
its been great
Great to hear!
Loving the program so far. New born, crazy work, kids getting colds, and 10f garage temps have made it hard to gauge how much strength I gained since I lost some strength on bench during this holiday season.
Def a tough time of year with the weather and all the holidays!
With 3-4ish years of lifting xp i tried out powerlifting for the first time through this app. Ran through a 6month cycle and it delivers for sure. The only problem that I have which I know is not easy to solve but i bulked a bit too hard through that 6months. Need to lose about 20ish lbs but when you specify that you're cutting it tailors it to your only on a small cut. Which I know is smart but for someone doing a slightly more aggressive cut the volume and RPEs were just too high for me to sustain. I've decided to go to 3x a week dedicate myself to more cardio and eat a bit more. Maybe it's me just being a bit too stupid and im sure a coach would know what to do but for a novice it's hard to know the best approach. A lot of powerlifters don't really talk too much about how they diet during powerlifting cycles.
I wouldn't suggest an aggressive cut regardless of if you're using the app or not, assuming you're interested in strength training. Reason being is that you'll find strength dissipates quickly. However on a smaller, controlled deficit, you should be able to retain most of your strength.
@@BasementBrandon Thanks for the reply! The strength went away very fast. Maybe I just need to be patient like you're suggesting. I was trying a 1% body weight reduction a week so 2lbs. Would you say that something like a 0.5%/1lb per week is more akin for what I should be aiming for? Or something even less like a 0.5lb per week loss rate? I was really fired up after finishing my last training cycle but I realised I had gained a lot of weight too. So I wanted to get back onto gaining sooner rather than later, then just to burn myself out. Sorry if I'm taking too much of your time. Really appreciate the comment.
@@timmedcalf4596 Depends on what you want to prioritize. Would you rather lose weight quickly or maintain strength? If looking to maintain strength, I would aim for 1-2 lbs per month.
@@BasementBrandon I don't mind losing some strength I knew it would happen and that's ok but I felt like I lost too much too quickly. Yeah ill see how 2lbs a month goes. Then see how it feels. I find it harder to track when it's only 0.5lbs per week. I try and use graphs to track my weight but do you have any suggestions? Thanks for the response, I had no idea that it had to be little of a deficit to maintain strength.
Would the program work as well with a red rack and colored plates, or it meant for StormTrooper only?
Sorry to run it with any other colored rack is an additional $5.99/month.
I am enjoying the program. I’ve actually hit previous PRs for doubles on dead’s going into the last couple weeks of my strength block. I have noticed for me the load management has adjusted to a level where I have had more consistently strong training sessions. I am going to try the power building after my peak and mock meet. Should I run a bridge program first?
That's what Chad recommends. I ran one after my meet for around 6-7 weeks. Def a different beast. Was nice to mix some things up but more importantly I couldn't wait to get back to powerlifting!
Hey Brandon. Really enjoyed your videos on JuggernautAI. They’re the best ones out there. You got me thinking about trying it last year but this video might have pushed me over the edge for this year, especially with your tips on super setting since I’m trying to cut down the time of my workout sessions.
Separately, would you ever consider posting a comparison between the EliteFTS SS Yoke and the Kabuki Transformer Bar since you’ve used both extensively?
I will def be doing a transformer bar video. If you want a spoiler, this this what I typically tell people..... if you're looking to replace a lot of barbell movements then the transformer bar is worth it for the versatility. If you're going to primarily going to use it for a SSB or hinge movement, a regular SSB is prob just as efficient and cheaper.
And the giant white cylinder is a water cooler? Punching bag? Giant glow light?
It's a punching bag from FightCamp
On week 2 of the program and love it. Definitely a refreshing program to do coming off of 5 years of various versions of 531
Great to hear!
Unrelated to this video. Is there a peloton bike video on your channel? Couldn't find
I need to do a review on it, Waiting until end of month so I can do a full year review.
Is it better to let the ads run? Meaning does it help your monetization? I would gladly let it run if it does. If it doesnt help, i’ll just continue pressing skip hahah
I don't think it makes much of a difference TBH!
Are those like chain sleeves or are they made like that? Is the purpose to dampen the noise and does juggai program in chain work?
Sheaths to dampen noise and limit banging against the rack. The AI does not have them as an option currently but I'm working them in.
You mentioned that workouts could be done in an hour, but also said you do some super sets with bench and squats. For those with a single rack/bar where such super sets wouldn't be possible, is an hour still feasible?
I think you likely still good for most sessions. I find if I'm messing around a lot some of my hypertrophy block sessions could go for 2+ hours so I end up cutting some of the accessories in those instances to still keep time training down.
Been on this program for several months now and seeing good progress. But whT do you do if you get sick for a week? I tried adjusting the program but it was at a point where I couldn’t simply redo that week and there is no way to just repeat a weak with the app staying on track
Couple options. One would just be delay the week and log it the week after. This would be an issue only if your test out date was an actual meet. Other option is to just log the week (without weight input) and in your weekly review I'd prob adjust the ratings for progression if you weren't feeling up for it.
One question I have is can you do lower rep schemes with this program? I feel myself dreading sets of 10 for squat to the point where I skip or make excuses. I would rather do 10 sets of 3 than 2 sets of 10.
Yes. When you go into the exercise info you can pick preferred rep ranges. So you could do lower rep ranges, but it will prescribe more sets. For example instead of 3 sets of 12, it may give you 6 sets of 6.
Do you treat RPE10s as absolute total failure? Ive seen vids of Blevins where he rates his RPE10 sets and they look closer to 7 or 8s. I feel like I sometimes get some wonky weight recs in the app even when i repeatedly rate a set as an rpe9 or similar high rpe
That's the tricky thing about RPE, it doesn't matter what it looks like, it's what you perceive it to be. So if you feel like you couldn't do another rep, it's a 10.
Hey Brandon, there's an Eleiko bar that im not to sure it's worth but someone is selling for cheap. Can you possibly give me info on it?
Sure, which one?
Do the sleeves on your transformer bar have any play in them? It's the biggest thing deterring me from buying one right now
Yes, they all do. If not it would be very difficult to adjust them to different positions.
@@BasementBrandon Thanks for the reply. Do you recommend it? I've heard some extremely mixed reviews. Most of the negative ones were complaining about the yoke, long handles, and wobbly sleeves. But there isn't really anything else like it on the market. Especially something that can get a front squat feel. And last question, did you get a blemish bar or a regular one?
@@billymckee9438 I need to do a video on this one, but basics are I don't recommend it unless you plan on using it place of a barbell for a lot of squatting movements (low, hi, front, etc). If you just want a SSB style bar you're better off just buying a dedicated SSB. This one is a blemish one b/c at the time there was like a 10+ week wait time.
@@BasementBrandon makes sense. Appreciate the info. I think I'll hold off for now and see if prime ever comes out with their version of an adjustable SSB
How does it handle back volume? A lot of powerlifting programs don't put a lot of back volume in
Pretty low, I think the most I had in one week was 8 sets during the hypertrophy blocks?
The powerlifting program has too little back volume for my liking
That's disappointing. Thanks for the replies fellas.
I only just started the bridge block and there’s quite a bit of back volume. Maybe it goes down in the strength block?
I find it's sufficient. The great thing is you have the ability to override any exercise. Don't like tracking abs? Put in more rows!
I was talking to them on their youtube, they want to try strongman but with the variability of potential events its pretty complex to achieve
“Virtually impossible”. The event organisers will deliberately select events that break the mould if there is a pattern.
Good point!
Did you choose 100% powerlifting or do you have a different split percentage through the app? I tried 80-20 and still felt it was way too much hypertrophy than PL
I believe when I did it I picked either 80/20 or 70/30.
Is this program good for novice lifters? I have been running a linear beginner program for 3+ months, although my numbers are absolute dogshit, I feel it is increasingly difficult to add weight for each session and recover.
I think as long as you're comfortable with RPE
Break out of your comfort zone a little bit. One thing that CWS always says is that he had paid more attention to hypertrophy work, and there's good reason for that.
Well I mean it has hypertrophy built into the powerlifting training. I'm currently doing a 12 week hypertrophy block :)
Rhode Island champ!!!!!! Woo!!!!!!!!
Lol
Always getting better! 💪💪💪
Trying to keep up with you.
@@BasementBrandon I’m old as dirt! 😂
How do you think this compares to having a powerlifting coach?
I think it offers a lot of the same benefit at a lower price. Something’s can’t be carried over, like for instance if you’re looking for form feedback, although you can use the juggernaut AI Facebook group for that. Also a coach can prob adjust things a bit differently to specific needs, but I. Most cases a good coach costs several hundred per month vs the $35 a month app.
Masters represent!!
Just trying to outlive the competition.
Giant sets are definitely a life saver.
and life ender in some cases :)
Is that a peloton in the corner?
Yes, need to do a review, coming up on a year of use at the end of this month.
@@BasementBrandon hell ya can’t wait I just got one last month. Hell of a workout
Awesome 👏🏼, let’s go Natural Strongman training! 🙏🏼
Lol have a long way to go before I do strongman
I followed the program rigorously for about 9 months and I found the program a little lackluster for the cost. Main lifts improved but made similar improvements with free RPE programs just regulating myself. I think the program might be worth it for individuals that have never programmed before even then you’re required to select your own accessories.
I think I would recommend plenty of free programs before this. Important to remember every body is different of course and clearly Brandon is doing great.
Appreciate the feedback
While I like the app I had better success on the Excel setup.
Opposite for me! The excel and I just didn’t mesh.
Did you delete a recent gym tour video or am I trippin? Lol
Not me.
@@BasementBrandon idk what I was thinking man.. might have been the iron bear video that shows clips of all your custom stuff. 🤷🏻♂️😂
@@airgordo4 I will be doing an update soon though!
State records! You just keeping getting older but your PRs stay the same age! 😂💪🏼
I think it's more there aren't many 40 year olds powerlifting in RI :)
Beautiful transformer bar squats. It’s a shame I missed your video on it 🤨
I'll do one soon i'm sure!
Cooking vids!!! Its your most viewed vid lol!!!
It's so bad too
6x10, thats all I need to know, never using this lmaoo
followed by 7x10 OHP :)
Do you think your strength gains will suffer on the powerbuilding or can you have it all? Lol
They won't progress as much, but depends on your priority.
Hit that like button 🐦🐦🐦🐦
🙏
No one looks forward to sets of 10 on squats. Too much like cardio.
Yeah add that in to I"m squatting 4x a week right now and this work better pay off lol.
@@BasementBrandon I compete at 42 years old and that amount of volume would just break me. I would think you'd see diminishing returns from anything more than 2x pw.
@@PinataOblongata One of the cool things is that it adapts based off feedback. My daily, weekly, block, and cycle ratings all play a role in how it changes and adapts my programming. I'm also in a hypertrophy block right now so the frequency and volume are high, but relative intensity is doable.
