It'd be nice for ED to add a Custom Shipwrights dynamic to the game, where you can build a ship to any specification you are able, and then sell that ship in a marketplace accessible to all players. Use that as an in-game revenue source.
Then people will complain it's P2W, people offering builds for real money outside the game and the buyer goes to the sellers FC and buys it for like 1 credit in game. He's given you the build blueprint for free and all it is a couple of hours material and engineering. Why are people so lazy?!?
I'd been trying to build a plasma boat with a Krait MK2. Did not realize I had to get rid of the shields. I guess I'd probably replace one of the smaller cannons with a cascade rail gun.
The Krait is literally the single most commonly used PvP and ganking ship in the game. You will see more Kraits in PvP combat than literally any other ship.
@@artist686 I have seen far more PvP Kraits than I have FDLs. Like, FDLs definitely aren't uncommon, I won't pretend they are. But when I get interdicted, 9 times out of 10 it's a Krait.
Now THIS is podracing! The only crazier thing I can think of is a hulltank ViperIII with just the weirdest weapons you can throw on it. Maybe the modified Shard Cannons you can get from the tech broken in Mbooni. Or enzyme missiles, I don't know. Just something stupid. Or ramming. Ramming would work.

The Bane of Rackam's Peak is not as dangerous when you're far away from the Peak. The **throngler** however will throngle you wherever you choose to hide and subsequently die. By throngulation.
The trick is the armor resistances. It's specifically engineered to completely ignore 40% of incoming explosive, 56% of incoming kinetic, and 81% of incoming thermal damage. Also, because thermal resistance is so high, it's nearly immune to NPC fire, and even ATR and station guns take a couple full minutes to become a threat. Having shields and shield boosters would actually put me at a disadvantage, because it would cut into my armor resistance, overtax the B-rated power plant, reduce the amount of heatsinks I can carry, and overwhelm the already highly-burdened power distributor.

@@werd3426 it's a tradeoff. You only have so many internals. In this case, I needed all the internal slots for armor. However, for 98% of PvP builds, you are going to want shields (optional internal) and shield boosters (utility mount)

Looking at over what was shown on screen ... that is some crazy build. How is that achieved? B rated, reinforced, armoured, etc? What is throwing me off is the high that Thermal got verse the total weight and low abolute.

If you do thermal resist reflective on mirrored bulkheads, and then fill the rest of the ship with kinetic/explosive resist HRPs, it causes higher thermal returns for some reason. Everything is B-rated, armored, and double braced, otherwise the heat damage would melt the ship.

Shields are stronger if you have more energy (pips) in systems. Not managing your pips when you expect to take a big hit means your shields will take more of a hit than if your pips were properly managed.
Believe it or not, the combat beluga was actually a direct counterbuild to this thing. He took out my weapons almost immediately and it turned into a ram fight which I lost.

It works in PvP, but I would not recommend it for a learner. Actually, I wouldn't recommend any of my weird shieldless alt builds for learner pvpers. For actual organic 1v1s and 4v4s, the meta FDL is still king. Prismatic, 5+ boosters, banks, 3 pa, 2 rail, around 555 boost. You can find coriolis links to a meta fdl on many forums online, keyword "3/2 meta fdl". This is the ship I would recommend people learn pvp with, and then you can play around with weird stupid builds.

Not needed. They don't protect against heat damage and everything else is B-rated, armored, and double braced. I've only been planted once (by Sol doing reverski and using his six superpen cope rails), and have had drives taken out only by packhounds.

People most frequently run thermal damage weapons for shields. And since I have no shields, it's funny to watch a wing of laser vettes do 1% hull damage every 5-10 seconds.
Everything is B-rated, armored, and double braced. I will occasionally fry off the hardpoints and heatsinks before anything else melts. And hull damage resistance numbers are shared with core internals so it's also very difficult for a superpen opponent to module snipe anything.
wait how do resistances stack as of now? weren't there a softcap of 50% and technical inability to go above 75% (tho even reaching 75% would be impossible)? yet coriolis says you would have 80.8% thermal resists. Did they remove the softcap or coriolis is simply obsolete in this?
No softcap, something's broken. People have gotten anacondas with only thermal resist reflective mirrored bulkheads and that gives about 50% thermal resist right off the bat. Then, filling about 75% of the optional slots with kinetic resist hull reinforcement packages and 25% explosive resist (both of which have negative thermal resist), the overall thermal resistance actually INCREASES, with a hard cap at 90%. Bam. 90% thermal resist conda = 80,000+ thermal armor. Can literally tank station guns for several MINUTES. Thx fdev.
@@CrimsonGamer99 ok checked coreolis again, so normal softcap appears to be 65%, at any rate all HRP thermal resistant can reach 64.9% if we have mirrored surface composite without thermal resistant and there resists work normally... yet if we have mirrored surface WITH thermal spread, then thermal resistant HRPs instead deduct resistance... all the way to 65.1%, same softcap. So my guess at how it works (at least at coreolis, and if you say you have actually tanked station guns in game then in-game it would work about the same) 1) Game does not softcap basic bulkhead resistances at all 2) When trying to add resistances from HRPs, game first "uncaps" old resistance. As is, if resistance is greater than 30%, then any difference between (resistance-30) and 35% is doubled. So 50% resist would become actual 70%, or 0.3x damage multiplier. Resistance from just bulkhead also follows this process. 3) This damage multiplier is multiplied by HRP's damage multiplier, 4) After that it re-caps this resist, giving us average between it and 30%. If resistance is 99.999% then you get 64.999% resistance in the end. But - because bulkhead brings thermal resist over 65%, after "uncapping" it goes above 100% resistance, or NEGATIVE damage multiplier. Obviously, multiplying a negative value by above-one multiplier of kinetic/explo resistant HRPs would sink said value below zero even further. The only unrelated thing is 90% hardcap. Probably another limit in code, kept from early versions before they added softcap. Without this, resistance could probably go above 100% and... make your hull heal from lasers?
@@svens3722 armor resistances are extreme. The thing is a bullet and laser sponge. Lets me focus the distributor on weapons and not have to worry about shields.
It's not. It's really not. It takes about 50 hours of grinding from the start to earn enough credits to buy and fully outfit a ship like this, another 100 hours to unlock and fully upgrade all of the engineers required, another 100 hours to gather the materials necessary to engineer all of the required equipment, and about 500 hours of practice to actually get semi-decent at PvP.
My favorate part is when he said said it's throngling time and he throngled all over them.

Thermal is the Premier damage type cause most ships use shields generally kinetic/explosives are second priorities to take out armor.

Bam. 90% thermal resist conda = 80,000+ thermal armor. Can literally tank station guns for several MINUTES. Thx fdev.
@@CrimsonGamer99 ok checked coreolis again, so normal softcap appears to be 65%, at any rate all HRP thermal resistant can reach 64.9% if we have mirrored surface composite without thermal resistant and there resists work normally... yet if we have mirrored surface WITH thermal spread, then thermal resistant HRPs instead deduct resistance... all the way to 65.1%, same softcap.
So my guess at how it works (at least at coreolis, and if you say you have actually tanked station guns in game then in-game it would work about the same)
1) Game does not softcap basic bulkhead resistances at all
2) When trying to add resistances from HRPs, game first "uncaps" old resistance. As is, if resistance is greater than 30%, then any difference between (resistance-30) and 35% is doubled. So 50% resist would become actual 70%, or 0.3x damage multiplier. Resistance from just bulkhead also follows this process.
3) This damage multiplier is multiplied by HRP's damage multiplier,
4) After that it re-caps this resist, giving us average between it and 30%. If resistance is 99.999% then you get 64.999% resistance in the end.
But - because bulkhead brings thermal resist over 65%, after "uncapping" it goes above 100% resistance, or NEGATIVE damage multiplier. Obviously, multiplying a negative value by above-one multiplier of kinetic/explo resistant HRPs would sink said value below zero even further.
The only unrelated thing is 90% hardcap. Probably another limit in code, kept from early versions before they added softcap. Without this, resistance could probably go above 100% and... make your hull heal from lasers?

@@svens3722 armor resistances are extreme. The thing is a bullet and laser sponge. Lets me focus the distributor on weapons and not have to worry about shields.

Don't even play this game but it looks fun. :]
It's not. It's really not. It takes about 50 hours of grinding from the start to earn enough credits to buy and fully outfit a ship like this, another 100 hours to unlock and fully upgrade all of the engineers required, another 100 hours to gather the materials necessary to engineer all of the required equipment, and about 500 hours of practice to actually get semi-decent at PvP.
