    A HUGE Congratulations 🎉on reaching the Halfway Mile Milestone 🎉Such a HUGE accomplishment 🙌🏻 I’ve been following you both since day zero (or close to day zero!) Crazy to think you’ve hiked halfway to Maine! NO SHAME to you, Heather, for not finishing the Ice Cream! Dang! That’s a lot of ice cream! Especially on a HOT Hiking Day! Honestly, I wouldn’t be able to even do a cone! Dairy and I don’t mix well at all! 😮😂 So Props to you for eating as much as you did! Looking forward to tomorrow’s vlog! ❤

    I do recognize you! I didn't work Father's Day this year, but I think it was me who met you last year when you came into the museum on your weekend shakedown hike. I definitely remember a conversation like that. I've been following your hike almost from the beginning. Congratulations on reaching the halfway point! No shame in not completing the 1/2 gal challenge. At least you attempted it. I didn't even try the challenge when I did my thru-hike in '92, but I did enjoy watching my friends who did. You'll love New England!

    You won't die in the Whites. You are going to love it! It's a blast. I get to hike there all the time. Finished the 48 4000 footers last August. You will be so ready when you get here. The views are spectacular. My only one suggestion is, if possible, hit Franconia Ridge on a sunny day. Take a zero if you have to if weather isn't cooperating. It's probably my favorite view in all the Whites. Garfield is pretty amazing, too.

    Congrats on passing the official half way milestone! Hats off to anyone that can eat that much ice cream all at once, there is no shame in not doing it, I know it'd be a hard pass for me, love ice cream but not that much! I did chuckle that right after leaving y'all started counting down the mile to the deli for supper it true thur hiker form! Looking forward to seeing what y'all think of the second half since it's all new for you.

    Ice cream has flavorings and dyes that are sickening to people who have developed chemical sensitivities - besides the obvious issues with dairy and sugar

    Keep this in mind, I'm hiking a short part of the Appalachian trail with my 88-year-old uncle. N We did 3.5 mi near boiling springs. We thought about going to the museum but the museum wasn't open so we did the part of the trail that was closest to where they lived. But looking at this video, this area would have been less of a challenge for him. I am proud of him for going over all those roots and climbing those stairs over the fences! We did it. He had a dream of doing a through hike on the Appalachian trail after reading a book when he was younger but he got married. I wanted to at least see the trail but he decided to take me on a hike. I was so excited when I met a through hiker! Don't know if I'll ever get back out that way but really cool

    Heather, are the Altra Olympus their trail runner or road runners? Did you get 5 or 6? I have only used Altra Lone Peaks and have had no issues, but definitely looking for something with a little more cushion and support. Why do you think the Olympus has been a better shoe for you?

    • @heather__hikes
      @heather__hikes  2 месяца назад +1

      I got the trail runners - the 5! They’ve been amazing. I just love the extra cushion. The Lone Peaks were great until they weren’t. My feet were just beat up and I needed some more cushion than they provided. They’re a little more stiff right out of the box but they only took a few days to loosen up.

    • @OBloveslife
      @OBloveslife 2 месяца назад

      @@heather__hikes, do you think the toe box is smaller? I talked to the rep at trail days. She saw my bunions and said she would stick with the lone peaks as she thought the toe box was narrower in the Olympus. I may still try a pair if I feel I can’t handle the rocks in them.

    • @heather__hikes
      @heather__hikes  2 месяца назад +1

      @@OBloveslife I don’t find the toe box that much smaller but to be fair I have a pretty narrow foot - and if it was an Altra rep that told you that I’d trust her lol. If you’re near an REI they have an incredible return policy for members - you have an entire YEAR to try out your gear and you can return no questions asked. I’d try there if you aren’t 100% sure about them!

      @@debkheiry5846 So for the entire trail so far - started in Lone Peaks, switched to the Topo Traverse in Franklin, NC (which was a horrible experience. They are NOT the shoe for me), went back to my Lone Peaks until I was having excruciating foot pain (like I could barely stand in the shower), then I went to the Altra Olympus and I am still currently in those and loving them.
