This is an unbox, review, and my honest deep dive into how the new Army Painter Fanatic is compared to the collection of various paint brands I already own. 3 weeks and 200+ paints shaken and tested later I finally pulled this all together.
I leave my videos a bit longer at times, I might even ramble on sometimes, but I also feel some of my points are valid or useful(usually), so I chose this format as it is true to myself and the information I want to convey. PS Hey Army Painter--What's up with ditching the old flesh wash?!

I hated the Pro Acryl bottles at first, too, for kind of the same reason. Thought they were hard to squeeze and get paint out. But I learned after a bit that if you give it a single shake when it's upside down over your palette before trying to squeeze, you get a lot of control over how much comes out. It's sort of like you have to get the paint down into the tip before bothering to squeeze. YMMV, but that's what's worked for me. I also bought the megaset (pre-ordered it), and then thought to actually try the Pro Acryl that I had on my shelf. Pro Acryl won out, mostly because I don't have to thin them as much, and I like how matte the are

Yeah I intend to use both for awhile and figure out which I prefer more.. I already started moving the Pro Acrly into smaller more squeezy bottles. Fits my paint rack setup better too. :)

You did a lot of work on this. Thanks. I've been fighting the fomo.

Thank you. Took a lot of effort making the video, but I think it was one of my more polished ones overall. Keep fighting that Fomo! I'll be working long past retirement age if I keep jumping on every new shiney thing.

Been painting Journeys waiting for your take on it! But I am mostly done with it now! :D

Yeah I am here. Always working away in the background between the day job and the family. I do have some photo and footage from some other Journy miniatures I could I'd be happy to post up on my Discord if you want to pop in there and say hi. I updated the invite link so it works now. I do want to get back to that, but I know in my heart I have to stick with the upcoming Deep Rock as a priority. It's my only NICHE series on youtube at the moment that no one else has really done. I'm not going anywhere though. Slow and steady wins the race!

Can you tell me what are the extra colors you bought?
I also have the megaset and sometimes as I paint I feel like Im missing some key colors...I also suck at mixing! I basically just put white to make a colour lighter and brown/black/gray to make it darker.
So the extra colors will help me!

You bet. This isn't all. But my approach is to have at least 3 of the 6 in each triad. So I added in Brigade Grey, Castle Grey, Worn Tone, Brainmatter Beige for the Warm Greys. The whole Browns Triad of 6. Still baffled they didn't at least put a leather brown from that. The 4 plasma glow effects, The whole Light Neutral Triad(skeleton/desert colors), 3 in warm reds Angelic, Legendary, Raging Rouge. Additional yellows- Fiendish Yellow, Warped Yellow. Oranges -- Molten Lava, Glowing Inferno, Inner light. Tree Ancient, Buffed Hide from Rudy Brown. Orchare/tans Wasteland Clay,Barren Dunes. Cool reds- Raging Rose, Blood Chalice. Pinks-- Doomfire and Pink potion(need for upcoming yellow focused painting video ironically), Deep Greens- Ferocious Green. Olive Greens- Woodland Camo, Olive Drab, Grotesque Green, Vibrant Greens- Afterglow, Emerald Forest. For the flesh. And others, I just picked a missing one from whatever areas it lacked in the Triad. Something near 1/3/6 of each range. Can try to find those later if needed. Just trying to do this on lunch break with limited notes.

In my defense, as this review literally took me April/May to do. I toss in 1-4 bottles per Miniature Market order if they have some clearance games and miniatures each week in the "Backroom" deals.

So slowly building out. Now I debate if I rebottle the Pro Acrly to droppers too and mix those in.

I regret to inform you that didn't need to add your mixing balls. If you look closer in the materials, each Fanatic paint comes with 2 stainless steel mixing balls already put inside the bottle.

Well I guess I need to specify in my rambling :). I was adding those to the OLD warpaints and the Vallejo that didn't have any as I was trying to give everything a level playing field for mixing and testing. I am aware they add balls since speed paint, I just wish ALL the brands did. Pro Acryl does as well of course.

@@hopelesshobbyaddict Ahh. Yeah that makes sense, never used the old warpaints myself but I've seen almost everyone complain that it separates easily.

just terrible honestly. The vortex mixer + mixing balls + a few drops of Vallejo thinning medium was their saving Grace that kept me using them the last few years. Made them much more pleasant overall, but still weak in the pigment side of things for a fair amount of those colors.

@@hopelesshobbyaddict Well since I am also a Fanatic mega set buyer (I just recently started in the hobby and didn't have many paints, and they were relatively cost effective per bottle) your review of the total paint range vs. what's in the mega box was very helpful in terms of which Fanatics I might pick up next. I only got my this week so I don't have a ton of experience with them, but they seem to be a major improvement over how everyone describes their old line.

@@jamiehuebsch Glad you found the hobby. It's a great journey that I plan to ride out as long as I can hold a brush and see the plastic in front of my eyes. :)
