  • We've got hold of the brand NEW Warpaints Fanatic from The Army Painter. We test them against Games Workshop's Citadel Colour. A direct side by side comparison.
Which paint range has the best coverage? Is it actually possible to get decent yellow cover over a black primer?
There's only one way to find out... Fight!!

In conclusion, buy AP. Half the price and dropper bottles

Don’t buy their old cheaper Warpaints. Buy their new ones that cost more then citadel. Well buy a lot, some are still being beat out by citadel paints. I didn’t like the Matt black or white so il stick with ak 3gen on those. Was disappointed with the shades, they tend to bubble.

I picked up some of the greys, and barely needed a second coat…
So cheap compared to Citadel… and the bottles are worth the purchase

@@Evilminiaturebest black on the market is Vallejo 70.950 black. Nothing even comes close. For white my favorite is a big 4oz liquitex basics titanium white. Again nothing even comes close to the quality. Whites are hard no matter what, but the titanium white with some Vallejo cold white highlighting on it looks fantastic. But pro Acryl has a fantastic line for people who don’t like thinning or using wet pallets to paint with. Pro Acryls are my personal favorite for Layering and really fine detail work because of the way the paint spreads and grabs details as you place it

Because it is pink, just like Fur Brown. Fanatics are very desaturated and pastel paints in general due to white pigment being probably secret of their excellent coverage. Great coverage at the price of saturation.

I suspect there is a strong proportion of titanium white pigment to give opacity. Testing some of the other colours will give a better idea. Watch this space!

I have the complete fanatics AP set. I love it. All the points in the video I agree with. The Citadel red color was my standard to go by, and the AP set meets that standard to me in terms of pigmentation, drying time is excellent, and coverage is great. I also like the complete set different shades, so you don't need to mix colors, just pick a shade and highlight.

You say to ignore the actual colour difference and look at the application but every instance of the 'pure' red I've seen in this range looks more orange or even pink. What does it look like IRL?

    • @WastelandsRaceway

Certainly not as bright as perhaps the name would suggest. Not exactly pink, but maybe a 'soft red' is about the best way I can describe it

Great video. I use Citadel, Vallejo and AP, and the main pull for me to AP is price, Citadel is just outrageous and their pots are not my favorite. Now there are some colors I use and will only use. For Orks I have my paint scheme and likely will never change, so it's just easier to go with what I know vs. trying something new color wise. Plus I airbrush a lot, so for big flat panels like this I am likely hitting a base coat with the airbrush vs. the brush.

it seems AP has been most succesful at improving their marketing. As a speedpaint v1 sucker i know first hand how they overhype their products these days. Now that the fanatic line has been out for a while and alot of testing has been done, i think its fair to say that they didnt make the worlds best miniature paint, they just caught up to the competition. Sadly they drink their own cool aid so they raised the prices accordingly. Do better AP!

    • @WastelandsRaceway
      @WastelandsRaceway  3 месяца назад

I think "world's best" is a big claim in any context, paint included. I do, however, think that the new Fanatic range is pretty good. In terms of performance vs cost, very good indeed.
Speedpaint v.2 performs better in my experience than Contrast, and AP metallics and washes have always been good.
But hey, Vallejo metals perform well too. Citadel are ok, but just sooo expensive in comparision.

    • @EspenShampoo25

@WastelandsRaceway I'm not following everyone on the fact that they are a cheaper alternative, not where I live atleast. Citadel are cheaper for me and yes they are 12ml while AP are 18ml, but let's be honest. Howany times have you accually emptied a bottle? I rarely ever have. So for me it's all about having a variety of colours and then citadel are cheaper. I however lean more on vallejo as they have great consistency, are a little bit cheaper than AP and a huge colour variety. I'm not impressed with AP sadly, I think they should go back to being a budget friendly alternative. Where I live they are not cheap (5$ a bottle)

Spoiler: Pro Acryl aren't that good to justify hunting them outside of USA. 9 out of 10 times if you see someone biased towards PA they're American without much access to Vallejo Model Color or AK Interactive (that's why they believe that Pro Acryl is a divine gift that is second to none). Yeah, they are one of the best brand in the hobby right now, but AK Interactive are practically the same and you lose absolutely nothing if you have AK in your paint rack and zero Pro Acryl. Plus, Monument paints don't work too much on wet palette. They quickly disintegrate and PA owner admitted he doesn't like wet palettes and isn't using them, therefore his paints are not manufactured with such things in mind.
