    𝗤𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗗𝗮𝘆 - What's your favourite colour in the new range, and why will it be Orange? :P

  • @TheArmyPainter

    Great tip around 2:00! It's actually extremely important to shake your Washes. The binder and retarders will separate easier than standard acrylics. With one-coat paints like Speedpaint, and hour densely pigmented Fanatic acrylics, you will always get the best performance when all of the ingredients are well agitated and mixed properly.

      Regarding your wishes for Dark Red and Dark Blue Tone, it's important to remember that these are Washes meant for shading. If you'd like a bit more punch, you should definitely lean into the Speedpaint range where coverage and vibrancy are found. ;)

      oh wow thank you AP for checking out the video, and may i say firstly that there are some BEAUTIFUL colours in the new range!! :)
      I am a huge fan of the speedpaints range so far, they have made me change the way i paint and given me a new tool to use, i shade with them all the time if i want a bit of extra punch in some areas :)
      I am sure i will use all the washes in time, it was just that dark blue and red which i would have loved to be a bit more umph behind the finish, but as you say speedpaint works very well, it was just as a stand alone wash video that i thought i would mention it.
      Very excited to move onto the technical paints next :):)

      @TheArmyPainter Murder Scene is one of my favorites in the new range. Thin that down a little and it's a crazy dark shade for deep reds.

  • @jamesyoung7400
    @jamesyoung7400 Месяц назад +1

    Try using the Dark Red Tone over a red coat and the Dark Blue over a blue coat. Also, the Dark Red Tone works well on the top of anything you'd normally strong tone while the dark blue(or purple) works well in the shadows as an alternative to strong tone.

    Actually for me personally like the fact there is less of a color change on the raised areas , and it gets more in the creases, especially if your not looking to change the color tone of your paint job, so it actually looks like both the old an new have uses, but unfortunately here in the future it will be hard to get the old line as they are discontinuing it. great video, and thank you very much for making it. I was not sure if i wanted to get new washes as i still have most my bottles full, this really helped in what new ones i will pick up though

    Sometimes you seem to forget that you were reviewing washes and not paints. I think it's awesome that the AP washes dont stain the surface too much. For everything else, there is speedpaint.

    • @coolguy10060
      @coolguy10060 2 месяца назад +2

      I noticed that they stain very little, actually more preferably i geuss. I'd rather wash something 2 or 3 times to get the right amount instead of 1 time and regretting it

      Im very much on the side of non staining, i do prefer these washes for sure. What i was hoping to come across in the video is that i wish some colours had a bit more punch to them so they were a stronger colour :)

      As you pointed out, Rob, the new washed don’t overpower the underlying color as much as the older ones did which is perfect for my paint style in which I wet blend, glaze and then wash over everything like James Wappel did in his shaded base coat technique!

    Just to clarify, particularly with your like-for-like 'revamped' comparison; aside from the choice of colours available now, the 'recipe' of the washes remains completely unchanged, they have not been 'revamped' or altered.
    The medium is just a wash without colour, it thins the wash without altering the colour, ie. no desaturation. While it 'looks' white coming out of the dropper, it isn't.

    • @SwordsandBrushes
      @SwordsandBrushes  2 месяца назад

      The washes definitely feel different from before but In a good way, they flow into the recesses more which is super :)
      The medium gives you more control so you can have a less intense colour. It will be quite handy if you want to slightly tint something or create a more subtle blend :)

    • @richardrussell7082
      @richardrussell7082 2 месяца назад +1

      @@SwordsandBrushes Yeah, so the medium doesn't 'desaturate' the colour, it thins out the coverage. And the wash recipe is definitely the same as it's always been, this has been directly confirmed by Adam Abramowicz. 👍

    I like the new dark and strong skin shades. They look like they can be used to make some awesome unike wooden terrain pieces or furnitures. But my ❤ belongs to the magenta tone! So many awesome fantasy stuff comes to mind! Biggest disapointment: the blue. It is maybe not really bad, but to match my taste it needs to be more vibrant.

      Im pretty certain that it will be a case of separating slightly if its been on a shelf somewhere for a while - my old Strong tone was exactly the same - if you take the plastic nozzle off and use a parperclip (straighten it first) or a bit of clean metal you should find that you will be able to dislodge a gunk like gel at the bottom. Give it a really good stir and it should start to mix in with the rest of the liquid in the paint.
      Pop the nozzle and lid back on and give it a good shake - that should do it :):)

      @SwordsandBrushes that's the thing. I liked the color range. It's just, the new paints felt so thick, I had a harder time finding the right consistency. I guess I had just learned to use the speed paint and gel based pro to a happy level, that adjusting to something new didn't work. Fortunately, I got them a good home in my hobby group, so they didn't go to waste. I really wanted to love them, but it just didn't hit for me. I'm not a good enough or experienced enough painter to learn to adapt to different paint consistencies I suppose.
