  • I've been so excited to share what I've been doing with these new paints with you guys! Of course, I mainly paint minis from the world of The Horus Heresy which is why this video explores why I think they will be great for Legion Players. However, I've got all kinds of models on the table (non heresy related) that I will be painting up for you guys over the coming months. It'll be Tau first!
I hope you enjoy the video. If you have any questions just ask in the comments below!
These videos aren't designed to be entertainment. My channel is and always has been about demonstrating and showing people how to get better at painting.
I am the Ryan Air of painting channels.
There's no Patreon to sign up to and there are no paywalls!
It's just you, me and the paint!
    Thanks everyone! Happy New Year!
Disclaimer: I have been sent these paints by The Army Painter which I am incredibly grateful for but I won't be paid for any videos where I am reviewing them! These are my unadulterated thoughts on the paints and what you're seeing in these videos is mostly likely me using them for the first time!

I’m like 50 seconds into the video, but huge YES to your comment on putting these things into application on actual minis instead of just bases(or the ever present plastic spoon). It helps so much more to see a Knight painted up, rather than what the effect/paints look like on the back of a utensil…

Not that you need to change anything here (this demonstration and final product is awesome!), but Contrast/Speed Paints are fantastic for adding shadows to metallics via the airbrush. I use Gor Grunta Fur 50/50 with airbrush thinner to shade anything that is metallic yellow/green/red.

That green is marvelous. I'll want some of that when it becomes available!

That Copper and Rough Iron ends up like Vallejo Tin Tin. A color I adore and use often.

The previous metallics used entirely mica, the new ones use a mica/aluminium powder mix.

Fantastic rundown of these, especially thanks to putting them into practice on a nice model, rather than painting a bunch of bases and calling it a day.
Just one bit that's kind of a pet peeve of mine, so I apologize for going into it quite a bit: you said you like the machinery 'dark and grimy' as a reason to put down rust - but rust is the opposite of 'grimy', not in a visual sense, but in how a machine reads in terms of its health: grime and oil are healthy, rust is not. You want your machinery and moving parts greasy and grimy and oily, specifically because it prevents mechanical damage and corrosion, while rust *is* very damaging corrosion. A model of machinery painted with rust effects will read as uncared for, damaged, and stuck (in case of valves/joints/hinges); A model with grease and black grime will read as the opposite.
Obviously the 'rule of cool' applies, and the resulting rust after drying is very subtle, but I feel like keeping details like that in mind helps add this extra bit of depth to your miniatures, since it's an additional layer of 'storytelling', by letting you show if the machine has been cared for or not (and for how long), and 'storytelling' is the main point of any and all weathering, I think. To show what a character, or machine (or place), went through in the past.
But yes, sorry for the rant; and thanks for a genuinely great and practical review!

Oh boy this looks awesome, thankyou for posting this.
I was always a fan of the color Rough Iron, and to see it being used in multiple different ways is interesting. For me I was thinking of trying out the new Death Metal color on some space marines. Might have to figure the rest of the scheme... black shoulders with steel trim. Red or Blue cloth (for the reds I was looking at some color swatches and was thinking the darkest color I could use the color Carnelian Skin.
Will have to follow if you do some more fun paintjobs with this new range of colors.
How well do they paint on without the Airbrush on larger surfaces?

I think a small circle of bright yellow underneath the blood effects might have given it a look of a light behind it. Overall. a very nice job. Thanks for sharing.

That's a cool idea. I think in reality the red is very powerful so would have swamped the yellow. Could be thinned though! I'll take it under advisement! Thanksnfor watching bro!

What did you use for the weathering on the green armor? Is that streaking grime or a dark brown oil? Thanks! Amazing work as always.

So far with anything I’ve seen with the fanatic range, I haven’t see anything that’s put me off buying these. They seem really solid, I’ve only used one of the blue ones
The metallic coloured metallics seem really solid too!
Have you tried the fanatic white/yellow yet, what are they like?
