I think for the metallic line it is best to do them over a basecoat of silver from what I have seen in this video, it looks amazing that way.
oo yes they are so nice over a metallic basecoat, the colours just seen to shine through that little bit more.
It then come across borderline - not quite "speedpaint" but an extension of the metallic range, but they do go on nicely when painting with a brush so either way im happy to use them and i'll experiment more as i go :):)
Loving that sprayed on bronze, that would look amazing on an army of dwarves! Thanks for the video, it's great to have the new speedpaints compared side by side over different undercoats
Oh yes having them on some dwarves would be really cool - and i think they could be done relatively quickly - but knowing me i would add extra details/highlights haha
But thank you, i just tried to cover a few things in the video which may help people see what they are initially about :)
Awesome stuff Chris, you made our Knight Commander truly shine!
Thank you kindly! :):)
Super informative and loved seeing the difference with the airbrush 🤩 The commander from war boss miniatures is awesome ❤
Thank you very much 😁
That Aztec Gold actually looks much cooler than I thought. Same with Enchanted Steel (looks great for like Grey Knights). The Bronze and copper looked quite red, but imagine like Khorne Chaos Warriors in that scheme... great video showing what these actually look like!
You are very welcome! Yeh the coppers are very red, they'll have some good uses though like you said for Khorne. Overall I'm fairly happy with the set. I think they airbrush much better than by brush :)
I got the complete set, love the new colors and the metallics! The new formula is great, the paint dries so quick!
Oh yes! the paint dries much quicker, i quite liked that :):)
Great stuff as always. Really enjoying your channel. My middle earth starter set arrived a few days ago and will be putting your tutorials into practice 😁
Thank you very much for the kind words! I hope that you really enjoy putting the starter set together and getting some paint on the minis! :)
What will you start with first?
@@SwordsandBrushes I am thanks very much. I’ve started with the orcs first :)
Great overview - convinced me to purchase the Metallic set
Thank you, I thought having a video in this style would work best for the set and a few Q&A at the end, it was a fun discovery with them :)
Those gold tones look beautiful! Now if only I played Custodes...
love info videos, the hobby need as much data as possible, thank you
Thank you very much, I'm Glad it was helpful :)
Yes i agree, sometimes the informative ones are just the biscuit, so i will try to get more of these type of videos out as and when i come across a new product to me that i can share my experience :):)
Nice video, very good comparing of all the metallics within reasonable time.
Thank you! Cheers! :)
Great video as always! I sense I might end up a bit poorer soon and have to invest in the full set of these.
Thank you kindly! They certainly have their uses. Ive got some Iron Hills Dwarfs and Uruk Hai which will love these i think!
Ya this is awesome bro thankyou so much!!
Thank you, glad that the video could be of use :) Please do share with anyone else that may find it as a nice guide! :):)
So thats what the stickers are for! Been wondering for months about them. Realy liking the airbrushed metalic. Got me thinking now about my full thrust starships.............
haha totally! Got to love a sticker :) I think they would work perfectly on them :) I have a few Battlefleet Gothic minis and i think i'll go down the Speed paint route with them :)
What about these colours on Gondor armies, mordor orcs and uruks?
Generally you get only 2 tones with the metallic speed paint. The main advantage is that it applies usually in a single coat. If you do want a 3 tone metallic try this ratio: 2 part metallic speed paint 1 part speed paint medium 1 part metallic medium (I personally like proacryl but the AP one should work too).
Good to know, i think with the speed that these dry at and being none reactive compared to the first set of Speed Paints, it will allow people to get minis done that little bit quicker with some nice results.
Im enjoying airbrushing these on lately, and using Grim black gives me a nice shade instantly also :):)
I was thinking of getting these, but I've already got one of the bigger lines of metallics they did, so I may just water down some of the first speed paints they made as a wash.
Sounds good! You can get some nice tints of colour doing that as well - it's quite a fun range to experiment with and get some nice results :)
I would love to see how these would look with further washes and acrylic-metallic highlights over top of them! These seem really nice as a base coat
That i can do! I'm eying up some Iron Hills or Uruk Hai next using these as i think they would fit in line with them :)
@@SwordsandBrushesoh yes! Iron Hills with these would be appreciated!
Thanks great video. I think I will give them a pass, I have been using normal metallics with speed paint on top and I'm pretty happy with the results, not sure if it is worth getting these ones. Any thoughts?
Also, do you recommend those spray cans in the video for priming?
Cheers
Thank you very much for watching :) oh yes id say if you are using the normal speedpaints over Metallics then you would have so much more variety - im a big fan of that!
Especially with an airbrush as you get instant results :)
If you are comfortable with that process and happy with the results then i'd save the money and not get these - as with mini painting you can get a similar, if not the same result by doing different methods.
And you then have the possibility of just having 492859306859 paints around your desk haha
The sprays i am quite impressed with really, i have used the Black, white and Bone colours so far and im happy with the outcome. They seem to come out with a bit more force than GW and Army painter ones, possibly due to the bigger can maybe? But they are smooth :)
I may do a short video about them just to show what they are about and what they look like so you can see:)
Took one look at all the armour I wanted bronze on my empire of dust army and immediatly ordered the bronze speed paint.
Yes!! That will be perfect for them - make sure you shake it up REALLY well though before using it!
I like them, but I found out when i was using either the silver or steel color ones, I had to mix 2-3 drops of medium to 1 drop to lighten up the color.
Yeh the metallic colours are quite intense, a smidge of medium or thinner will work a treat :)
I wanted to stay with citadel paints but being a new painter this seems like a great way to start
I wonder if GW will do some metallics in their range one day, regardless of brand as long as you enjoy the process of getting minis painted thats the main thing :):)
Hmmm looks like I might need to pick a couple of these up for my airbrush. Definitely not all of them though, who needs that many silver speedpaints? 😂
haha the enchanted blue is really nice, but you get a nice shine with the polished silver :)
What do you think you will paint with them? :)
I'm keen to use the Speedpaint range on all future Necrons I buy. Do you happen to know how they would look when applied over Army Painter's own Platemail Metal primer?
Funny you should say that, i ordered some necrons the other day to make such a video! :P
Ive got Gun Metal primer only and it works perfectly on that, and i know it will work on plate Mail as i have done it before on a few things.
But im very keen to make a Speed Paint Necron video for the SCI-FI channel :)
what did you use for the gunmetal undercoat?
P.S. how would these do on a chrome undercoat?
Gun Metal undercoats i tend to use The Army Painter Spray, oh and for a Chrome undercoat these would work AMAZING! The colour really pops out - especially with those Brass and copper paints on top :)
would the AP gold with a reikland fleshade look like retributor armor with the shade?
Yeh very close, the Retributor is a slightly darker reddish gold to the AP gold - so a reddish skin shade like Reikland will help :)
Which brush did you use for the metallic speed paints?
I tend to use any really and then give them a good clean afterwards. I dont use my best fine detail ones however.
If its just to add a basecoat on most table top sized minis i would go for soething like a Army Painter regiment brush, which i thing is about a Standard size for GW. Hope that helps :)
I am a huge fan of speedpaint and while the metallics are a little more difficult to use, I am actually liking them more and more as I use them.
Im in teh same boat, i've enjoyed using them. The metallics dont feel like they are the same, but i do like them as an extension of metals to the existing range :)
What have you been working on whilst using Speed paints? :)
@@SwordsandBrushesI’ve been painting models for D&D/Pathfinder. So mostly the OG speedpaint line and some metallics for highly armed and armored adventurers.
I think the way the two speed paints on top of each other worked could look good with a base of the aztec gold and then a cover of dark copper to give a patina look
Thats a cool idea right there! I could think of a few uses for that such as "evil armour" or weathered statues! :)
These are great. Very fast to paint vs regular painta
They certainly have their place and its nice to have an expansion to the paint line for sure :):)
I would probably buy 2 of these. Maybe 3. Not sure why they need all these metallics but 🤷♂️
Yeh there are some nice colours, the to silvers that look pretty much the same seems a bit unnecessary, but a dark bronze would have been perfect.
Ive been painting Morannon Orcs over the weekend and had some Broadsword thrown on them with the airbrush.
I'm sure i'll find some uses for them, perhaps some Iron hills Dwarfs! :):)
how about airbrushing the speedpaint metallics? is it good?
I love using them through an airbrush!
I've been painting a few things recently for myself where i have laid down the metallics first with the airbrush and then using a Grim Black and even Hive Dweller purple speed paint for shading.
It saves so much time! So this makes me happy :):)
Painting on black is impressive compared to the 1.0 paints
Yes definitely, and to get a decent basecoat on black with a metallic such as gold will safe a bit of time :)
What happened to the necron videos!! I was going to use that green one for my admech:(
ah cool! For anything 40K related - i setup a Swords and Brushes Sci-Fi channel, as i will dip in and out of a variety of projects on that side of the hobby.
Ive got a while Necron series on there going through a bunch of colour schemes :):)
@@SwordsandBrushes ah cool thank you
Somebody was feeling a bit silly.
I don't know what you are talking about, they were real voices! haha :)
You didn't know what a hoplite was!
Not until i did the video, i just never came across that word before. Unless we did it in school, but that was a long time ago! haha
"inner monologue commentary".
I feel like i do that a lot when painting - keeps me sane - just! haha
Throwing a comment 5ft
need a way to auto-block clickbait "honest review"
Hopefully you found the video useful :):)
@@SwordsandBrushes I did actually .. thank you, love speedpaints. reckon no one is going to do a "dishonest review" and advertise it 😃
Dammit that sounds like a challenge! haha
These arent really speedpaints. They dont really highlight the way a real speedpaint does.
I thought so too when trying them out, not quite the same reaction as the traditional speed paints that i was thinking, but in terms of colours im very happy to add them to my existing range :)
Mid Painter strikes again.
After watching your video, you convinced me to buy the metallic range.
haha thanks, glad the video helped to give you an insight on them, whats going to be first painted when you get them? :)
