The shot of John Deacon from 0:47 to 0:52 is one of my favourite moments from live music. On a stage filled by 5 legends it would be easy to be overshadowed. Especially by the huge on-stage presences of Bowie, Lennox, May and Taylor. It's a wonderful 5 seconds of footage as Deacon sways to the rhythm in an old pair of jeans and a t-shirt, smiling reminiscently as he mesmerises the crowd with arguably the most recognised bassline of all time. In discussions of 'rock greats' Deacon can be easily overlooked due to his quiet persona. I personally view him as one the greatest bassists of all time. He's also my personal favourite, just pipping John Entwistle for first place.
Bowie said in an interview something to the effect the genesis of the song started with John Deacon playing around with this bass line when Queen and Bowie were messing around in the studio.
The drummer and bassist are often the unsung heros who without, they're would be no band. But they usually are content with being on the sidelines knowing this and that's enough.
One of my favorite things about this video is how Bowie is such a humble star. Annie Lennox obviously doing the Mercury parts shows off her vocal range and big performance. Bowie easily could’ve been the focus if he wanted to be. Instead he lets her command the stage and plays his role in the song perfectly being stoic and almost muted to her performance. Total perfection. He is so sorely missed.
Bowie, regardless of his stage persona, was always suave and always in command. Annie Lennox might be the only pop singer who could be more of a chameleon yet, in her own way, is every bit as commanding. Bowie was a given for doing this tribute, Annie was an inspired choice.

@@abbigale2772 Exactly. He was a normal bloke who just happened to play bass in the biggest band in the world. I can totally sympathise that he didn't want to continue after Freddie. Besides, he's still involved, just in a reduced managerial role in the background. I've heard Brian and Roger involve him in as many conversations over future directions for the band as they can.
I went to Download Festival a few years back and after Rammstein had finished and all hundreds of us were taking the long walk back to our tents some lads started singing Bohemian Rhapsody, and it spread like wildfire, everyone just started singing Queen songs as we marched. Heavy Metal festivals really are the most wholesome festivals.
I’m a huge Bowie fan and I saw him over a dozen or times in concert over the years. I was here at Wembley this day. It was a difficult task to outshine Bowie in any duet, but Annie Lennox did it here incredibly. One of the great rock performances. Hats off to Ms Lennox. ❤
This is the REAL DEAL! One the the most incredible and authentic performances I’ve ever seen. To say Annie Lennox was “all in” is an understatement, especially at the end. So glad that this was recorded to be enjoyed forever.
i saw Eurythmics in Houston in the late 80s. Calling Annie Lennox the real deal is an understatement. Best live show I have ever seen, and Lennox clearly enjoyed sharing the stage with her musicians. Just a total class act.
The last bit that is sung while they are hugging is one of the most touching duet moments I've ever seen in a live show. Their emotions are physically visible through Bowie's eyes and Lennox's facial expressions
it’s hard to believe he’s a human lol these two are (were) regular human like us and did that whole performance in that moment of history. with so many people around. woww
Bravo Annie Lennox, avec tout le respect que je dois à ceux qui sont décedés, ton interprétation est hors norme, et qui d'autre que toi aurait pu livrer une telle performance? RIP Bowie et Freddie, et vive Annie!

When music was so pure..no autotunes and stage gimmicks. Just talented souls giving their all. Andddd...no distracting phones, only people enjoying the performance which they knew will not happen again😢😢😢
It’s a lovely thought, but not true. Bands were using tapes, pre recorded tracks, etc back in the 70s and 80s. ELO was called out for using prerecorded backing tracks live in the 70s. I saw the Cars in 84 in the Heartbeat City tour. Lots of programming.
Freddie Mercury and David Bowie will always be in our lives, because of the legacy they left for us to enjoy till the last record breaks. No need to despair my friend.
Lennox has so much grace and heart it's almost overpowering. One of these on stage is incredible both is almost too much stage presence to comprehend, just look at that reaction from the crowd it says it all. Mercury and Bowie both hugely missed, Annie god bless her she is still happy and well.
I am a 65 year old man and this brings a tear to my eyes watching this knowing how much we lost and really how good Freddy was as well as David was. WOW
@@conboyle5592 Anne is awesome - however she didnt write the song and I think there is something about her performance style and always been that is inauthentic. People do love women - Kate Bush for example - Nina Simmone but the way a crowd responds is very different. Women have a different style and there is nothing wrong with that. Can someone also explain to me - as someone who has been a life long Bowie fan how someone who can Dance as he can in the live recordings for TIME, John Im only Dancing, Lets Dance etc - suddenly turns into this nerdy awkward thing on the stage for this period of time - I mean the video for ''dancing on the streets'' - HOW DID THAT HAPPEN??? Was it a joke?
You must have rocks for ears. Neither of them can sing a note without going offkey, the music is very poor at best, and the whole delivery is lacklustre.

Well, using this song would make Annie the lone outsider. Under pressure is a Queen + Bowie collaboration. It is a good tribute song for Freddie. "This is our last..."
Right before COVID lockdown started, we went to a Bowie tribute concert put on by all alumni Bowie Band members. They played all his songs, in order, from his albums, “The rise and fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars” and “Diamond Dogs,” as well as numerous others of his hits. It was awesome. He was so creative.
Yeah, there's that moment when they realize that the audience is completely with them. They start out a bit cautious, almost afraid of stepping into Freddies' 'shoes', but the audience is cool with it. Then they're free to rock out.
The greatness of Freddie Mercury can be seen not only in his work and the legacy he left behind, but even in the concert that was played in tribute to him. No one has had any greater tribute than Freddie Mercury so far and probably will never have.
When you see Annie Lennox even struggle to have Freddy Mercury's range it makes you realize just how one of a kind he was. Absolutely no one in this world was like him. I'm young and I can see that. It just have been amazing to live through Queens musical prime.
Agreed I was listening thinking, my god even the two of THEM can’t hit it all like Freddie. Hold on Annie where ever you are, the world needs one of you
Freddy couldn't replicate that range during live renditions of "under pressure"...the only person who I've seen replicate that high range was Bowie's bass player Gayle Dorsey
it means as you go through life and experience love with someone, you feel it will last forever, but then you lose it ,that is guaranteed. Each time you fall in love it becomes less and less significant because so much ofwhatyou had to give is gone each time you try.... after a few relationships of this the well is dry, hence the question.
I don't think this song is a boy-girl love song. I think it's more about loving people who need your help. Y'know ''a good friend screaming 'let me out'', ''people on the streets'' etc. And love dares you to care for the people on the edge of the night. And love dares you to change our way of caring about ourselves
Love everything about Annie Lennox in this from her dress to her make-up, stage presence and obviously her incredible voice. It felt like a Rock Opera.

Same
He's impossible not to love.
He seems sad here - maybe it's when he realized Queen should retire without Freddie?
This is so iconic. I adore Bowie. I was born in 89’ and gutted I will never experience anything like this.
Respect for Annie Lennox, a woman who has retained her artistic dignity throughout her long career.
She is quite the little bird :)
I saw her tour with sting in the early 2000’s. She has an amazing voice. I can’t say I was ever a huge fan but I do have huge respect.

I broke when i heard them sing his parts. Love all. ✌✌
As he does in all of our hearts.
I went to Download Festival a few years back and after Rammstein had finished and all hundreds of us were taking the long walk back to our tents some lads started singing Bohemian Rhapsody, and it spread like wildfire, everyone just started singing Queen songs as we marched.

Me too! What a magical twosome
I agree with you 100%
...and Bowie graciously acknowledged it in spades.
Oh Ya she outshined him but not in a positive way
Not a bowie fan but i miss him
This is the REAL DEAL!
@@Xoebe I was lucky to have seen Eurythmics perform as well (several times) and was always struck by her stage presence.
Annie is a national treasure and should be recognised as such. (From a teenager in the 80’s and fellow Scot)
I saw Annie Lenox and Sting in San Antonio, TX ... marvelous performances and they sung a few songs together!!
The last bit that is sung while they are hugging is one of the most touching duet moments I've ever seen in a live show. Their emotions are physically visible through Bowie's eyes and Lennox's facial expressions
absolut!
David kept it cool while she was all over him like a cheap suit.

Life without Bowie is getting pretty hard.
Freddie Mercury and David Bowie will always be in our lives, because of the legacy they left for us to enjoy till the last record breaks. No need to despair my friend.
Bowie is in space now, its ok. He is where he needs to be.
Right. There's no other like him.
This is our depression
we all unique, more or less quite, more or less shiny but we all the same.
Lennox has so much grace and heart it's almost overpowering. One of these on stage is incredible both is almost too much stage presence to comprehend, just look at that reaction from the crowd it says it all. Mercury and Bowie both hugely missed, Annie god bless her she is still happy and well.
Her entire ensemble is so iconic. Makeup, hair, and that gorgeous dress, flowing in the wind. It’s the perfect counterpoint to her incredible vocals.
I agree. I love that voluminous skirt.
Annie’s theatrical costumes are part of her essence, watch her videos from the 80’s, she is an amazing singer and an incredible genuine person
What an awesome duo Annie Lennox and David Bowie, paying tribute to Queen!❤👏

My God, they were beautiful. So glad technology let us capture this perfect moment forever.
the amount of passion oozing at the end when Annie puts her hand around Bowie's neck, pulling him in closer to her as the song crescendos is amazing.
I am a 65 year old man and this brings a tear to my eyes watching this knowing how much we lost and really how good Freddy was as well as David was. WOW

Is Anne no in it?
This song breaks all the rules. Beautifully.
Such a magical performance by two music legends. ❤
Moved to tears! End of an era Rip David Bowie. Annie Lennox, love you!! Amazing performance, thank you!
Imagine having the balls to sub in for Freddie. She did a great job

Gail Ann Dorsey does Freddie's part much better than Annie. No iffense.

Honey, artists always stay alive.

1:40 Annie Lennox's and David Bowie's epic reactions on the crowd's "dee-eeey-ooh" and "OK".
Yeah, there's that moment when they realize that the audience is completely with them. They start out a bit cautious, almost afraid of stepping into Freddies' 'shoes', but the audience is cool with it. Then they're free to rock out.
The sheer emotion from Annie gets to me every time I watch this. Unbelievable performance. Legendary!

When you see Annie Lennox even struggle to have Freddy Mercury's range it makes you realize just how one of a kind he was. Absolutely no one in this world was like him. I'm young and I can see that. It just have been amazing to live through Queens musical prime.
Yes indeed it was, and David Bowie's musical career (I'm not so young)😉🦘🐨
Agreed I was listening thinking, my god even the two of THEM can’t hit it all like Freddie. Hold on Annie where ever you are, the world needs one of you
Amen! His vocal range was unreal. Apparently it was a good 4 octaves!
facts.
I'm just going to curse the current auto tune artists if you guys don't mind.
Freddy couldn't replicate that range during live renditions of "under pressure"...the only person who I've seen replicate that high range was Bowie's bass player Gayle Dorsey
Why can't we give love one more chance?
That we should care for each other, I suppose.
it means as you go through life and experience love with someone, you feel it will last forever, but then you lose it ,that is guaranteed. Each time you fall in love it becomes less and less significant because so much ofwhatyou had to give is gone each time you try....
after a few relationships of this the well is dry, hence the question.
