  • Feeding birds can be daunting when you realise they aren't just meant to eat seed. At Bird Vet Melbourne, we feed our hospital patients (and our own pets) a really healthy chop diet.
The trick to a good chop diet, is to have a range of cooked or sprouted grains and legumes in the mix, a healthy balance of vegetables and some cereal like ingredients to absorb any fluids from the chopped vegetables.
The ingredients in the recipe the staff in this video are using are:
    -Kale
    -Turnips
    -Carrot
    -Spinach
    -Capsicum
    -Zucchini
    -Corn
    -Brown Rice (cooked)
    -Quinoa (cooked)
    -Millet (cooked)
    -Sprouts (lentils, chickpeas, mungbeans,)
    -All Bran
    -Rolled Oats
    -Pepitas
    -Sunflower kernels
-Calypso’s Chop Topper (puffed wheat and other cereal substances)
    -Dandelions (and their leaves)
The harder to find ingredients such as millet and Calypso's are actually available at the clinic's online store: pet-shop.au
