Straight to the point right away! It's wonderful that we don't have to sit through 20-30 minutes before we learn what we came here for. I appreciate the content of this channel so much!
I made some chop the other day for the very first time. I used Brussel Sprouts, Broccoli, green and red peppers, Red and Green chillies, green beans, carrots, ginger, coconut cubes, rocket salad leaf and butternut squash. My Senegal Parrot took to it immediately and I have had him for four years prior on a fruit and seed/pellet diet. The Chop is his “Go to” meal first thing in the morning. I made a large batch, froze half of it and kept the other half to be used daily in the fridge whilst stored in a sistema snap-lock lunch box. I enjoyed making his meal as it’s more “involving “.
Cook Rice and beans then cool and save for later, wash everything and cut up in small pieces. 10 Brussel sprouts, 6 carrots, 8 kale leaves, mix, 4 broccoli heads, mix, 4 celery sticks (pull off strings by knife), mix, 2 zucchini (peel, knife), mix, 2 bell peppers 1 red 1 orange (by knife only edges and seeds), mix, then add rice and beans 1/3 cup sesame seeds 1/3 cup chia seeds 1/3 cup hemp hearts, mix GOOD, store, no air, then freeze, then one in the fridge to thaw, then you can add greens
I want to be your bird right now because u make delicious food Everyday I must see your video because I cannot live without seeing and hearing your birds and ur voice
So you caught that too?! I laughed out loud although I’m by myself and had to exclaim , “It’s a stem!!” I think Donna is a precious and genuine lady. Watching her videos is nearly like being invited into her home and getting personalized instructions on bird care.
Omg thank you! My budgies are very picky eaters. From what I have observed the younger budgies only want to eat seeds and millet but the older ones love greens
I love my discovery of cutting down the veggies on a towel and pressing out all the extra liquid so it isn't goopy soup. No matter how much I do that I cannot get much liquid out of peppers so those I drain in a mesh strainer and press.
Thank you for showing me how to make xhop. I tried it once and it came out a liquidy mess. Now I know why. My birds eat fresh veggies every day. By the way, you are looking really great in this video!
I would like to say a huge thank you to you for sharing this recipe! My featherbaby conure has been mainly seed fed and she absolutely LOVES this chop! I cannot thank you enough for this easy to follow video tutorial! I see you love your feather babies as much as I love mine! I had to substitute the rice and omitted the zucchini but she’s lovin it!!!!!!!! Thank you a again!!
Hi Donna! I just love watching your videos and seeing your lovely pet birds. I’m learning so much from your pet bird channel and also love your bird room set up. You have a lot of patience, wisdom, and creativity. I look forward to watching ALL your videos!
Thank you for sharing this recipe! I just made my birds the same chop and they finally love chop! I also love the idea of them all eating from the same big tray!
"Hi, my name is Donna and this is my lovebird Sprinkles" Sprinkles looks at the camera and tilts his head like "Yeah, it's me!" That was too perfect and adorable!
Another great video! I think half the fun of keeping birds is cooking for them!!! I add fresh herbs too, like basil, mint, coriander etc. Also smashed up hard boiled eggs with the shells.
It took some time but now my budgies love their chop! Making sure you pat everything as dry as possible is key to a nice crunchy chop that doesn't turn into mush. I also mix in a few spices and herbs from the spice cabinet as well as some rolled oats and seeds that helps soak up more moisture. I feed it to them frozen first thing in the morning after bringing them out of their cage and it thaws at room temperature. It doesn't seem to go sour as quickly when I feed it this way. They sure love their carrots and get carrot juice all over their faces lol.
Great video 👏👏💖 can never get enough good recipes. Hope you’re planning on doing a whole recipe series 💖🥦🦜 I think this may be my favorite of all your vids😉👍
Your chop looks awesome. My issue has been making chop for just 1 budgie. Even a small amount of veggies makes so much chop. More than 1 budgie needs lol I've been freezing it in ice cube trays to make a single little serving and then move those into a ziplock, which I learned from Sophie (Bird Nerd Sophie)
Mam, i have searched the menu for bird chop food, and how to do it, your video is the most clear explanation of any video i found. Thankyou so much ❤️❤️❤️
Hello Donna that is a meal fit for a king and Queen and making me hungry.I am going to try and do that for my bird.I never knew I could give my bird red bell pepper plus the seeds wow !!!!! I wish you were marketing your chop. Wonderful video as always , thanks!
Yes! Ty so much. I tried this today and it worked. My parakeet loves to eat some chop.... I didn’t do all of it yet - but I did mix Vegis with his seeds and he’s starting to eat it. B4 I never chopped and he would just throw them out of the dish.
Hi. This is pure greatness. What a beautiful video trust me it makes me happy seeing how much love Donna has for her pets. This is amazing & I'm sure your birds enjoy their chop. I like seeing your budgies enjoying their chop dish!!! Standing ovation for you. Donna, you, Sprinkles & your birds all look beautiful. Much respect this video definitely got my like.
Thank you so much for this video ❤! I have been feeding my parrot seeds for years and some people food from time to time. Also did not know they could not have salt . This video is a great eye opener! I will be feeding the things you suggested in your chop recipe today! So grateful for this Information . 😊😊😊❤
I was looking for something like this to make for my Sulphur Crested Cockatoo "Chicken" to eat because she's a picky eater! She does love mashed up veggies though! Can't wait to try this recipe with her! Thank you DONNA and Sprinkles!
As I watched this video (I am a middle aged man BTW) I started to see the delicious almighty chop from the point of view of one of the pet birds, 🐦 (lol) , instead of a pet owner which I am (planning to add a parrot to my dog, cat and aquarium fish), and suddenly I felt a deep sense of gratitude on the behalf of all the birds to OP alias Parrot Mama 😘 Even as a non-parrot I think that chop is a more balanced diet than what I eat 😂😂
I have two kakariki’s and I’m trying to explore there options for food because i bought them from Craigslist and the lady seemed to only feed them seeds, since I’ve had them they seemed to love the fruits and vegetables I give them so a chop would be great for me to try and make them
Enjoyed your video. Wow, your birds are beautiful. I will try adding the beans and lentils. Right now my 2 budgies are just learning to eat chop. I will try withholding their seeds and pellets when I give them the chop. Thank you.
This video has really helped me a lot. I’ve always wondered how people made food like this for their birds, im going to buy a food processor now and start doing this too and use this recipe. Thank you so much
Love it. I only have 2 birds, an eclectus and a cockatiel. I only make a small batch so I don't even need to freeze it. I give my eclectus fresh chop twice daily, and my cockatiel (prefers his seeds) only gets it once a day. It usually doesn't last more than 4-5 days so it stays fresh in the fridge.
Hello, I have been looking for this information for so long in all videos but no one tells how many times to offer this chop to the birds. Just adopted a female cocateil and she does not like much of the vegetables. I am so confused on what to feed her as most of the videos tell that millets and seeds are to be given sparingly and we do not get pellets in my country. It will be very kind of you if you could share your birds diet with me. Thanks
Wow 😍 fantastic recipe 💕 I love to make colorful ❤💛💚💙💜 chops on every weekend & I serve everyday, my birds loves. Nothing makes me happier than that 😊💖💯👍
I lovee all your birds , they seem to really enjoy their food 😍😄 I made a video on my channel of my own version of Bird Chop. Thanks for inspiring me!!💚🍀 God Bless

Thank you so much for the great info. A long time ago when I had parakeets I fed them chopped parsley, and I used to make a birdy cornbread w pumpkin for my breeding lovebirds. I had a nanday for 26 years and she would have loved your chop. I'm hoping to get a couple of linnies and I will definitely use your recipe. Thank you. 💙
Very good information on making chop. Now I have to write it all down and start putting it together. I am feeling good that my budgies will finally start eating healthy food. In a prior video, you mentioned sprouting; would appreciate a video on sprouting. Your birds look so good; healthy and beautiful; they show a lot of energy also.
Thx for the video. I have a picky cockatiel who is not crazy eating veggies or fruits. Hi, glad you are enjoying my videos. I would let the society finch out if I had one. I have a have finch and she is out everyday. I used to have zebra finches and a few other finches and I let them out. They are smart and knew when it was time to go back in. This is great information thank you!! I just wanted to point out though in case you didn’t already know, that some of your birds need a nail trim...they’re beautiful though☺️

That lovebird is probably the most gorgeous lovebird I've ever seen.
Dang, this is like... Good enough for people. I'd eat that 😂
Yeah totally 👌
Me too haha!
I have eaten chop so many time 😂. It’s just missing lemon juice and salt. Give a try.

Very good information on making chop. Now I have to write it all down and start putting it together. I am feeling good that my budgies will finally start eating healthy food. Thanks for showing me the best way to cut up a bell pepper!
If you make chop and it’s soggy you can grind up flaxseed (also known as linseed) and add that or strain it or even both
Thank you
You're welcome

this was really helpful thank you so much! I only have one cockatiel (2nd one is coming this summer) but I want to teach him to eat fresh foods

Great video! It looks so good!
How do u know what proportion of each ingredient to add and how much to give to each bird?
I accidentally ate chop by accident once and thought oh shit this is delicious!
I frequently add it to my Mac n cheese
good ty
I have very important question, what veggies do you cook, I mean which ones do HAVE TO be cooked? Hellp0
Hi, sweet potatoes, squash, legumes, and rice should be cooked. All the other veggies serve raw.
Thank you so much 💓
