I made some chop the other day for the very first time. I used Brussel Sprouts, Broccoli, green and red peppers, Red and Green chillies, green beans, carrots, ginger, coconut cubes, rocket salad leaf and butternut squash. My Senegal Parrot took to it immediately and I have had him for four years prior on a fruit and seed/pellet diet. The Chop is his “Go to” meal first thing in the morning. I made a large batch, froze half of it and kept the other half to be used daily in the fridge whilst stored in a sistema snap-lock lunch box. I enjoyed making his meal as it’s more “involving “.

Cook Rice and beans then cool and save for later, wash everything and cut up in small pieces. 10 Brussel sprouts, 6 carrots, 8 kale leaves, mix, 4 broccoli heads, mix, 4 celery sticks (pull off strings by knife), mix, 2 zucchini (peel, knife), mix, 2 bell peppers 1 red 1 orange (by knife only edges and seeds), mix, then add rice and beans 1/3 cup sesame seeds 1/3 cup chia seeds 1/3 cup hemp hearts, mix GOOD, store, no air, then freeze, then one in the fridge to thaw, then you can add greens

I love my discovery of cutting down the veggies on a towel and pressing out all the extra liquid so it isn't goopy soup. No matter how much I do that I cannot get much liquid out of peppers so those I drain in a mesh strainer and press.

It took some time but now my budgies love their chop! Making sure you pat everything as dry as possible is key to a nice crunchy chop that doesn't turn into mush. I also mix in a few spices and herbs from the spice cabinet as well as some rolled oats and seeds that helps soak up more moisture. I feed it to them frozen first thing in the morning after bringing them out of their cage and it thaws at room temperature. It doesn't seem to go sour as quickly when I feed it this way. They sure love their carrots and get carrot juice all over their faces lol.

Your chop looks awesome. My issue has been making chop for just 1 budgie. Even a small amount of veggies makes so much chop. More than 1 budgie needs lol I've been freezing it in ice cube trays to make a single little serving and then move those into a ziplock, which I learned from Sophie (Bird Nerd Sophie)

As I watched this video (I am a middle aged man BTW) I started to see the delicious almighty chop from the point of view of one of the pet birds, 🐦 (lol) , instead of a pet owner which I am (planning to add a parrot to my dog, cat and aquarium fish), and suddenly I felt a deep sense of gratitude on the behalf of all the birds to OP alias Parrot Mama 😘
Even as a non-parrot I think that chop is a more balanced diet than what I eat 😂😂

Love it. I only have 2 birds, an eclectus and a cockatiel. I only make a small batch so I don't even need to freeze it. I give my eclectus fresh chop twice daily, and my cockatiel (prefers his seeds) only gets it once a day. It usually doesn't last more than 4-5 days so it stays fresh in the fridge.

Hello, I have been looking for this information for so long in all videos but no one tells how many times to offer this chop to the birds. Just adopted a female cocateil and she does not like much of the vegetables. I am so confused on what to feed her as most of the videos tell that millets and seeds are to be given sparingly and we do not get pellets in my country. It will be very kind of you if you could share your birds diet with me. Thanks

I mush all his veggies in the chopper so I can put about 1 teaspoon of his seed and pellets every morning (the veggies are separated in very small containers and in freezer). This is great information thank you!! I just wanted to point out though in case you didn’t already know, that some of your birds need a nail trim...they’re beautiful though☺️

Hi, sweet potatoes, squash, legumes, and rice should be cooked. All the other veggies serve raw.
