Atlanta has come a long way musically, im not even from there and im just proud of how far they went with their sound and have artists that take over the game.
Outkast started the Atlanta movement then others follow,Andre 3000 is greatest MC in Atlanta music history.Shout out Jermaine Dupri setting off So So Def Records. He put on Kriss Kross,Da Brat,Bow Wow,Xscape,Usher
Yes I caught that too. Kriss Kross was not on LaFace. LaFace was an Arista Distributed Label. Kriss Kross was signed to So So Def who have contracted through Columbia procured by Jermaine's dad's leadership Michael Maudlin. We must mention this because of the budgets and choices labels had to make. Consider if you had to choose between TLC and Xscape if they were under the same label? Thank God they were not. LaFace had TLC and Columbia had Xscape. They both got radio airplay. This was a huge way the Atlanta market grew. Dallas Austin, whose label "Rowdy Records" had Monica. Rowdy was signed to Arista. Laface had Toni Braxton. Rowdy also had the kid group, Illegal, and Ruffhouse had Kriss Kross (Columbia). I have to mention, how So SO Def was set up as a production company but had the entire family of associated labels under Columbia to make deals with. I believe Da Brat was Chaos Records (Columbia), Kriss Kross was Ruffhouse (Columbia), and Xscape was Columbia. He truly used other people's money and resources to get artist he wrote and produced for out there. Totally smart. Atlantic Records had its claws in Atlanta as well with T.I. And Def Jam and Dej Jam South as well. But they were not headquartered here. The last label we should mention that had a lot of indie artists was Ichiban.... Can't mention Atlanta without mentioning Ichiban Records. Period.
Killer video. Answered everything I was looking to find out about ATL rappers. If you see this comment, would love to see a video of a breakdown of each zone in Atlanta, and which rappers come from each zone.
@@RandyMonio why didn't it become popular in the land they are from. And if they started it why didn' land they play the music from they come from. they were playing black american music. l not no reggae. GTFOH
I didn’t know that Latinos had been rapping since the beginning. I like that history. You can see how the art immediately affected everyone in that scene. A lot like Jazz in the south. No human being could keep themselves from a good sound
