Atlanta is really a...unique place. Being one of the only cities that has a large black/minority population of middle, upper middle suburbs like most white cities. It is also one of the most culturally diverse cities in America, It is a great place to grow up, being exposed to pretty much all walks of life in one general region: Rich, poor, white, black, latino, asian, jewish, islam, christianity, etc. You grow up with a pretty realistic look on the world here right off the bat..
The city is one of the biggest influences on music, sports, and the civil liberties we all enjoy and benefit from today all around America. The city is still growing to this day. Even though it is not perfect (like fucking Singapore or some shit) It is almost the polar opposite of what northern black cities like Detroit, which seems like it's forever deteriorating. Funny how the world works. The black cities in the "racist south" seem to be doing far better than the black cities in the "liberal north".

Yea when they call it a black city it's kind of inaccurate, just more like a stereotype. Im so grateful to have grown up around Atlanta because of how many different people I met. I moved to Greensboro (Idk if you know where that is) but people are different here and more close minded.

True! I'm from Brooklyn NY and I just said that same shit to a co worker last week! I told him that the ancestors that stayed in the south left land and homes to their families. All we have is 20 fl. Projects and apartments! Wtf we suppose to leave our sons?! So yeah yr right. The south is a much better look!

Every time I think of Atlanta it brings a smile to my face; the food, the nightlife & the people. Sure, just like ever major city there's segregation however it's under the guise economic nowadays. The main difference I've discovered in Atlanta is the Natives vs Transplants.

This is some good history of Atlanta. I used to live off Courtney street, off Briarcliff, which intersects Ponce DeLeon. I would ride my bike all over Ponce. This was probably 1962 or 1963.

I wish all this shit going on in our country with race could take a step back n everyone no matter the race come together n stand up but not the way we are. MLK jr. went thru so much and all of us are turning our back on his and many other civil rights leaders set fourth. non violence. the key missing in today's battle. we did it once. and we sure as hell can do it again. also, we can't demand people to treat others as equal and with respect if we dont do it in our own lifes. as an example. a "black" man calling out a "white" man for being racist. yet "black" man when in his day to day life treats all "whites" like they are all racist. and the story can be switched doesn't matter what color anyone is. if we can't come together in our own day to day lives and treat other races as just another human not a diff color. and accept other races into our life's how can we stand and demand others to. we all need to lead by example we need to keep MLKjr. misson alive.stand together without violence. love people even for there flaws. understand people are different.having respect for urself and others is more powerful then any riot. I don't see people by the " color" of there skin only by the actions they do. on a side note. I'm sure if everyone got a dna test we would all be mixed anyways. I prey one day hate can be a rare event.

1st off, he pronounces Ponce de Leon wrong. Atlantans don't pronounce it the Spanish way, it's Ponce duh Lee on. Home to Murder Kroger and turning into a vapid wasteland of overpriced hipster shops. They're going to ruin the Clermont by turning it into 'luxury' apartments. And Dr. Dax isn't from Atlanta, he moved here, like most people. There are very few of us natives. It's frustrating when the media finds people who aren't natives but those who move to a place and try to co-op it into their vision and not really the truth. They didn't mention that they wanted to tear the Fox down. This is a city that believes it's own hype and destroys its history.

Grew up in Atlanta, and my parents have been urban planners in the city for their entire careers working with people like Kwanza Hall and Shirley Franklin to help the city rise from what it was back in the 80's...and whoever says it's not still segregated is ignorant, most likely white and not from here.

"Some plantations"? Sherman burned down EVERY BUILDING IN THE CITY and bent the railroad tracks around the lamp posts for the sake of rubbing it in. Old 4th Ward is one of the hippest, cleanest, on-the-rise neighborhoods in Atlanta. Come visit me along Hollowell Parkway (formerly Bankhead Highway) if you want to see the city.
